The National Football Museum: Is this the BEST place to watch England at the Euros?!

We went down to the National Football Museum for the England match against Sweden this week to see how good the atmosphere was and we can’t recommend it enough!

00:00Hello and welcome to Manchester World. My name is Theo Houstonbets and today I'm on my way to the National Football Museum,

00:04but not for the reason you might think, because the museum actually has a brilliant offering for the Women's Euros,

00:09where they're staying open late to allow people the opportunity to watch the Lionesses games on a big screen.

00:15Today, the Lionesses are up against Sweden as they attempt to bring it home at the Women's Euros,

00:19so we're going to go along, find a bit more about the offering and hopefully have a great time watching another win.

00:24The museum's free for Manchester residents anyway, so you can come down, but it's an offer to the wider public.

00:30We're the National Football Museum. We love women's football here.

00:33We've got a really amazing section about the history of the game.

00:36Before it was actually banned in the 60s, women's football was so popular over the two wars and then was banned

00:44and then consequently came back and the first Euros was back in 1984.

00:49So, yeah, so since then, I think the Football Museum's been, yeah, getting behind it, which is cool.

00:56And, yeah, it's just a really great opportunity to get our community in to watch the game

01:02and watch just some fantastic football, really.

01:04You can grab yourself a pizza and you can have those bars set up.

01:08We've also got a cheeky little merch stand and then I'm there at halftime doing a few silly quizzes.

01:13Tonight's is called Ikea or not to Ikea, usually themed other countries.

01:20The first one was the Holy Swiss quiz, so there's lots going on and there's also a few little craft activities.

01:26But mainly, everybody's here just to watch the game.

01:30We've had primary schools, we've had people from all over, someone from Canada.

01:35So, yeah, it's great.

01:37I'm slightly worried.

01:38I think it's going to go to penalties.

01:40I think it's going to be 1-1.

01:41I think the Swedes want blood because we knocked them out of the last women's tournament

01:45and obviously with the backheel from Russo, which is a bit of an iconic goal now.

01:51Also, they've got, I'm a big Arsenal fan, but they've got the Arsenal striker up front.

01:56I'm so nervous about her.

01:59So, yeah, I think it's going to be a tough one.

02:01And then, although this England team look improved, it's still a little wobbly.

02:08So, I don't know.

02:09It's a big moment for Serena and the girls.

02:13So, let's see.

02:14I just think women's football should just be viewed just as the same.

02:16It's still a long way to go.

02:19But I think events like this and having it in our National Museum, just saying it's on a par, it's equal,

02:24and to come down and, you know, hopefully inspire not just young girls but also lads as well to just be like,

02:31yeah, we all love football, so let's watch some really high-quality stuff.

02:34And I think some of the goals in the tournament have really highlighted just the quality of some of the players.

02:40So, a phenomenal result for England there, coming back from 2-0 down to win big in the tournament

02:45and make it through to the next stage.

02:47It has been a brilliant atmosphere in the National Football Museum, as it always is.

02:51It's definitely a place worth considering if you're looking for a place to watch the next game.
