00:03Firefighters are issuing a warning over the potentially fatal consequences of entering

00:08Derbyshire rivers this summer. The warning comes after two people with paddleboards were seen

00:13entering the River Derwent at the Weir above Darley Abbey. With strong currents on the surface

00:17and under the Weir, the two paddleboarders could easily have gotten into trouble if river levels

00:22had been any higher. Group manager David Diggins from Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service said,

00:27We know with the recent high temperatures, people have been looking for ways to cool down

00:31and people are finding new hobbies and ways of enjoying the great outdoors. But there's no

00:36getting away from the fact that open water is dangerous and it brings an increased risk of

00:40injury or worse. With the school holidays approaching, Derbyshire firefighters are calling on parents,

00:46guardians and carers to speak to children and young people about the dangers of entering open water

00:52and ensuring they do not get caught up in peer pressure to go into rivers, lakes or reservoirs.

00:57A lifelong Chesterfield FC fan is preparing to walk more than 50 miles from his home in Staffordshire

01:04to the team stadium for charities that are close to his heart. Ben Kirk will set off on July 31st

01:11and walk for three days through the Derbyshire countryside to raise funds for both Ashgate Hospice

01:15and Macmillan. The 28-year-old lives in Burntwood near Litchfield and will arrive at the SMH Group

01:22Stadium on August 2nd in time for the Spyright's first home game of the new season against Barrow AFC.
