00:00Ministry of External Affairs hails U.S. labelling the resistance front, the TRF, as a terror organization.
00:08MEA has now issued a statement on designation of the resistance front by the United States Department of State.
00:15The Government of India welcomes the decision of the United States Department to designate the resistance front, the TRF, as a foreign terror organization, FTO,
00:27and as a specially designated global terrorist.
00:31We acknowledge and appreciate the leadership of Secretary of State Mr. Marco Rubio in this regards as India.
00:37The TRF, a proxy as we know of the Pakistan-based terror organization Lashkar-e-Taiba, has been involved in numerous terror-related activities,
00:47including the heinous attack on civilians in Pehalgaam, Jammu and Kashmir on the 22nd of April, for which it twice claimed responsibility.
00:57Pranay Apaveh is getting in more details.
00:59India Pranay has repeatedly, consistently spoken about the role of the TRF, an offshoot of the Lashkar, which Pakistan has repeatedly dismissed.
01:09This is acknowledgement of what we've been saying for the longest time, isn't it?
01:13More so after the Pehalgaam attacks.
01:15You're absolutely right, yeah.
01:17This is actually a vindication and validation of what India has been saying and trying to expose the role of Pakistan and Pakistan-based terror outfit.
01:25This is an acknowledgement of India's effort and not only the India's effort, but also the kind of theft the terror outfit posed.
01:34Because the very fact that the designation of TRF, which is an offshoot of the Lashkar-e-Taiba, by the United States government as foreign terrorist organization and as a specially designated terror outfit,
01:47this clearly shows that the U.S. also feels that this terror outfit, this organization poses a threat to U.S. national, to the U.S. national interest and the U.S. economic interest,
01:56and especially the interest of the U.S. foreign policy.
02:00So this designation, which was actually coordinated by the two U.S. departments, Department of Tragedy, Department of Tragedy Justice, and the Department of the State.
02:10So the State Department has issued the press release and also the statement released by Marco Rubio, the Secretary of State,
02:17clearly marks the effort made by India and the validation and vindication of India's standpoint.
02:23And we also say, this exposes the Pakistani propaganda.
02:27Pakistan has been telling the world that, you know, how they do not have any role.
02:32But now the United States, you know, after having observed the fact, after having, you know, they have undergone their own investigation in this case,
02:40because the designation itself is a very cumbersome process.
02:45It involves, like, a lot of evaluation, a lot of vetting is done, and after that, they have decided to designate it.
02:52But having said that, there is an important issue here, that merely designation does not, you know, curb or put an end to these terror organizations.
03:02Now, what entails is the further procedure, the designation of PRF in the United Nations Security Council as a terror outfit,
03:11because India's application, India's procedure is still pending there in UNFC, which was initiated in 2023.
03:18We expect the United States government to help in that procedure as well.
03:22And also, in the FATF, because the special designation of a terrorist organization also entails action within the international platform,
03:30especially the FATF, which is a monitoring institution, the UN monitoring institution for the terror financing.
03:38So, these are the important things which we are now, like, you know, we would be looking at.
03:42And also, we also would be looking at a concrete action by the U.S. government,
03:47especially in putting pressure on Pakistan to put an end to these terror outfits and take concrete action,
03:53because this action is long pending.
03:55This action is pending since 2008.
03:58The FATF has already been designated as a terrorist organization in the U.S. record.
04:03And now, we expect, after the resignation of TRF, which is an offshoot of LEP, as a foreign terrorist organization,
04:11the U.S. government and the front administration is expected to put pressure on Pakistan
04:15if they want to show that they are serious in counterterrorism.
04:18But definitely, this is a big diplomatic victory as well,
04:22and also a very robust example of India-U.S. counterterrorism cooperation.
