Scottish Government staff protested outside the Victoria Quay building in Edinburgh against the closure of the on-site nursery.

The closure is leaving ten staff facing redundancy and some parents without childcare.
Transcript
00:00If you want to stop the closures, have your feet.
00:14I'm Pippa. I'm a statistician.
00:17I work for Social Security Scotland but I'm based in Victoria Quay and I'm a mum of three.
00:22It's been really hard to find anywhere that I could put two of the youngest kids in
00:26so we're going to end up with my middle child in two different nursery settings
00:31and my baby in a different setting as well.
00:35So we're going to be travelling all around the city just to do that.
00:39I'm Rob. I have two kids at the nursery, one who's four and one who has just turned one.
00:45First thing was that we found out about the closure at the end of the same week
00:50that we had just started settling our one-year-old in
00:53and so we had a really nice week where she had gone along and it had gone well
00:57and then at half seven on the Friday night we found out that it was closing
01:00which was just really, really, you know, obviously a shock and a big massive disappointment
01:05because it was the first that we had heard of any sort of issues around the nursery at all
01:09and we got it in an email at half past seven on a Friday night.
01:12So, yeah, initially it was just real anger and disappointment and shock around the whole thing.
01:17I'm Liz and I have a grandson at the VQ nursery.
01:21To tell employers to provide childcare, excuse me, for their employees,
01:30the government's setting a very poor example itself.
01:35I believe at the same time they're asking workers, their own employees,
01:40to come into work two days a week and at the same time they're closing the nursery.
01:45So, we're asking for two things. First of all, we're asking for support from the parents just now
01:51like in the immediate short term to be able to access other childcare arrangements
01:56and assurances that if the nursery does close or if they can't find a suitable childcare that works for them
02:03which is what they want, that there will be accommodations made for them basically
02:09that there will be support in place so that they can continue to work
02:12but balance the needs of their children at the same time.
02:15And then the second asset we have is that the nursery at Victoria Quay remains,
02:18that it isn't just allowed to close and that the Scottish Government takes action to ensure that childcare can continue here.
