00:07protesters from the Elsie on the Mile campaign group gathered outside the city chambers ahead of the decision,
00:14angry in particular at the design of the statue.
00:17If this goes ahead with the exclusion of most women's voices,
00:21this is not just what Edinburgh is saying about equality in Elsie,
00:24this is what Scotland is saying to the world about how we view equality
00:29and the story and history of women.
00:31As protesters of all ages gathered outside, Natasha explained more about why they were there.
00:37Well I'm here today because the public voice has been silenced.
00:42When the controversial commissioning process happened in the open competition for this statue,
00:48the public discourse was completely shut down.
00:51The charity closed their Facebook page, their Twitter and their website
00:56and since then there's been no public dialogue.
00:59Also it's really important that all of the stakeholders within this large cultural public art are consulted
01:07and yet we've identified that only one out of about 13 areas of stakeholders.
01:12We've also identified 11 pages of policy, planning policy that hasn't been followed.
01:19Councilors at the Development and Management Subcommittee voted 7-2 in favour of the statue during a meeting on Wednesday morning.
01:29The Edinburgh Councilors also ruled out a council official's recommendation to have a lower plinth than in the original drawings.
