Bhubaneswar (Odisha), July 13, 2025 (ANI): BJD leader Lenin Mohanty on July 13 slammed Odisha government after student allegedly attempted self-immolation in protest over charges of sexual harassment by her teacher and said that last few days have been a living hell for women in Odisha. He also demanded principal should be dismissed for the attitude. “Last few days have been a living hell for women in Odisha. Two gruesome gangrapes took place in Gopalpur 10 days ago... A student was targeted by a teacher in FM college and Principal took it lightly. Her complaint was also not acted upon... She committed suicide today... Odisha is in a state of chaos today, 15 rapes happening everyday... If they failed to protect the woman belonging to their own organization, how can they protect the women of the entire state? We demand that the principal should be dismissed for the attitude he has shown, 5 teachers should be issued show-cause notice and suspended till they reply. A team of BJD leaders have visited the father of the victim...,” said Lenin Mohanty.

00:00The incident at Balasur today has hurt every Odiya inside Odessa.
00:06For the last few days, it has been a living hell for women in Odessa.
00:11Ten days back, within a gap of ten days only, two gruesome gang rapes at Gopalpur.
00:20Just after that, at Rayagada, two lovers were made to plough.
00:24And today, a student in FM College, she is being, for no fault of hers, she was targeted by a teacher.
00:35She was abused.
00:36And when she complained it before the principal, principal took it lightly.
00:41She went to the internal complaint committee.
00:43She filed a complaint on the 1st of this month.
00:46It is already 12th today.
00:48After 12 long days, nothing happened.
00:50And at the end of the day, the lady committed suicide today.
00:54That has hurt every people, every person who is hearing it.
00:59Everyone is touched by the move that the lady has taken.
01:02Where are we proceeding to?
01:04Where are we going to?
01:06A girl who has come for justice, she meets her principal.
01:10The principal takes it lightly.
01:12The internal committee takes 12 days to kind of come down to a conclusion.
01:16And the lady committed suicide with 90% burns.
01:21See, it's there at Ames.
01:24Today, we had gone for a press conference to address this particular issue.
01:28Because Odisha is at a stage where there is chaos.
01:3115 rape every day.
01:34This is a new record which is being set.
01:36NCRB had told that 8% crime has increased.
01:39But when you listen that 15 rapes are happening every day, it shocks each one of you.
01:45So, it is the duty of everyone to see that women should feel protected.
01:49Here, instead of giving protection, that lady was left wayside because she met the principal.
01:55She met the internal committee.
01:56She met the Honorable MP of Balasor.
02:01And the pity that is hurting more, the lady belongs to ABBP, the student wing of the ruling party here in Odisha.
02:10When they are unable to protect the lady who belongs to their own organization,
02:15how can they vouch that they will protect every woman of the state?
02:19And that is why we are in a stage where women are not feeling secured.
02:23We demand that the principal should be dismissed for the attitude that he has shown.
02:29We demand that the five teachers who were there in the internal complaint committee,
02:34they should be issued so cause and till they reply, they should be suspended.
02:38And today, a team of BJD leaders consisting of student leaders like Ipsita Sahu,
02:45the MP candidate from Balasor, Lekha Sri Samansingar, our media coordinator,
02:51other senior leaders, Dr. Rajasri Malik and Gautam Buddha Das, the MLA of Bhugrai,
02:58they have gone to Ames, they have visited, they have discussed with the lady's father.
03:04We are trying to do our best, but it's an appeal to the government.
03:09Do your best.
03:10Try to save a precious life of a girl child.
03:13You are talking too much.
03:14We are talking about the girl child, but it's time for her to do something.
03:20This is the time.
03:22We have to help the family.
03:23We have to see that the girl survives.
03:26We have to see that such incidents are not taking place again.
03:29Just by suspending one or two, just by putting aside one or two,
03:33people won't feel secured.
03:35Ladies won't feel secured.
03:36So we want that the government to step forward.
03:39The home is in charge of, the home department is in the hands of Honorable Chief Minister.
03:45Stringent measures should be taken.
03:47And the principal and many other principals who are like him,
03:50they should not take violence against women in such a light spirit.
03:54No, it is not acceptable.
03:56When you say that the girl's complaint doesn't hold merit,
04:00you have to now answer that if it doesn't hold merit, how did she take her life?
04:05The principal has to answer.
04:07Just by suspending that person, the government cannot vouch that it has taken a huge action.
04:13The government has to ensure, the government is very eager that the student election should be held.
04:18We are also inclined that the student election should be held.
04:22But it is time.
04:23The government should make the campus violence-free.
04:27Women should feel free to come down to the college.
04:29Instead of that, such things create a tension within us,
04:33create a fear rather than every woman of the state.
