The film Udaipur Files, based on the brutal 2022 murder of Udaipur tailor Kanhaiya Lal, was released on August 8, 2025, amid legal hurdles and accusations of vilifying the Muslim community.

00:00Those were the sons of Kanahia Lal, an Udaipur-based tailor who was brutally murdered in June 2022.
00:08A film based on his murder case called Udaipur Files was released on 8th August 2025,
00:12the screening of which was attended by Kanahia Lal's sons, Yash and Tarun Saagun.
00:16The slain tailor's sons entered the theatre with a photo of their father,
00:18which they garlanded and kept on his seat.
00:20The movie has been accused of vilifying Muslims and was originally slated for release on 11th July,
00:25but was temporarily stayed by the Delhi High Court on 10th July.
00:28On July 21st, the centre cleared it for release if the filmmaker made edits in six parts of the film,
00:32but later withdrew the order and upheld the movie's certification without the cuts.
00:36A petition was filed against the movie by Mohamed Javed and accused in the Kanahia Lal murder case.
00:41The court rejected Javed's plea on Thursday, 7th August 2025.
00:44The movie was then cleared for release.
00:46Kanahia Kumar was murdered on 22nd June 2022 by two men who entered his shop as customers
00:50and fatally attacked him with a cleaver.
00:52They were allegedly enraged by a social media post by Kanahia in support of BJP leader Nupush Sharma,
00:57who was suspended from the party over religious remarks made by her.
