Transcript
00:00Yeah, so we're here with Dragos. Dragos, you said, what was it, Boston?
00:04Boston, yeah, that's one, and the other one is All Right Bob.
00:09All Right Bob, that's it, yeah. You said you got a favourite bit of graffiti in Boston?
00:13Yes, it's represented in downtown Dudley in the font of Supreme, and they said it's Boston.
00:23You remember Wilco in that area? Yeah, yeah.
00:26On the wall, big like this, about one meter tall.
00:29I'm sure a lot of people from Dudley will know exactly where it is.
00:32But it's not, let's say, it's kind of hidden.
00:35I guess there are some sort of other things covering it.
00:39What do you think of the accents around you?
00:42Very, very strong.
00:44It's having some sort of melodic things, but it's still strong for me.
00:50It's still too strong.
00:51Do you reckon it's a friendly accent?
00:53Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, I don't find it...
00:55Much intimidating or anything? No, no, not at all.
00:57Very friendly, yeah.
00:58Very friendly, yeah.
00:59Yeah.
01:00Just like, you know, there's this thing.
01:02The frustration comes not from the power of the accent, but how strong it is.
01:07Yeah.
01:08Sometimes like 50%, 70%, I'm there, but at least 25% I need to process.
01:14I need to comprehend.
01:15It's not like you just said something and I straight away got it. No.
01:19To be fair, I'm from the area and sometimes I don't even understand it completely, you know.
01:23Yeah, I know.
01:24That's perfect, thank you very much.
01:25Thanks so much, I appreciate it.
01:26Well, Peter then, Pete.
01:27You just said a very good phrase there.
01:28You said a very good sentence.
01:29Let's see if you can repeat it again.
01:31Well, I'll erm...
01:32God, he's gone out my head now.
01:33He's gone out your head now.
01:34He's gone out your head now.
01:35That's it.
01:36Something about speaking proper, Peter.
01:37No, you haven't got to speak proper like what we do.
01:39That's what you've got to do.
01:40That's what you've got to do.
01:41What's your favourite black country phrase, do you reckon?
01:43I was probably Boston, eh?
01:44Boston, gotta be Boston.
01:458 and 8.
01:46Boston's Boston 8.
01:47Yeah, you'd sit there.
01:48We called it now.
01:49That's it.
01:50Down the cut.
01:51That's it.
01:52Down the cut.
01:53Yeah, got it down the cut.
01:54That's great.
01:55Possing the field.
01:56What do you think of the black country accent, though?
01:57What's your opinion on it?
01:58I like it.
01:59She's not very keen of it.
02:00I like it.
02:01She's not very keen on it.
02:02She tries to speak.
02:04What?
02:05When I used to work away a lot, I used to have to try and talk slower.
02:09Especially the Welsh.
02:10They say we don't talk.
02:11We sing.
02:12How that works out.
02:13I don't know.
02:14You know, so.
02:15But yeah, well, I like the black country accent.
02:17It's a good accent, mate.
02:18It's getting popular as well.
02:19These days, nice to see, innit?
02:20The proper English music.
02:22You'd like to say that, didn't you?
02:24It is absolutely.
02:26Closest to Anglo-Saxon, apparently.
02:27The King and Queen used to speak like that, don't they?
02:30Real British, you know.
02:32Real British.
02:33That's it.
02:34English.
02:35Proper English.
02:36That's it, yeah.
02:37You doing anything for Black Country Day?
02:39We don't know, yeah.
02:40We'll see what's down British North.
02:41See what's going on.
02:42See down there.
02:43That's perfect.
02:44Thanks for hearing Laura the Musician.
02:45Laura, you gave us a really...
02:46I really shouldn't have said that.
02:48You gave us a really good phrase there, didn't you?
02:51Okay.
02:52As a black country woman, my favourite black country phrase is,
02:55Yaw Ma Jawa.
02:56That's a brilliant one.
02:58It is different from the ones that we've had.
02:59What do you think of the black country accent?
03:01I'm very, very proud of the black country accent.
03:04I think it gets a lot of stick.
03:06Yeah.
03:07But one thing about black country people is we're very welcoming.
03:10Yeah.
03:11We're historically very welcoming.
03:12When immigration first kicked off in the 50s, well first,
03:15we welcomed people, which is why we've got a beautiful multicultural society that I love.
03:20So the thing about black country people, we are friendly, we accept people,
03:24and I think that the accent helps with that.
03:26So I'm very proud of my accent, and it's never stopped me doing anything.
03:29And I love it.
03:30Tell you what, not only is she a musician, but she might be a councillor as well.
03:33I want to be the mayor, I want to be like...
03:36I want to be...
03:37Future black country mayor we're looking at there.
03:39Laura Alice Brazier.
03:40You don't know.
03:41What's your favourite black country scene?
03:43I mean...
03:44I mean, definitely.
03:45What do you think of the black country accent?
03:47I think it's beautiful.
03:48I think it's beautiful mate.
03:50It's my accent, I love it.
03:52I'm really so flush now.
03:54Do you reckon it's pretty good that it's getting popular?
03:57You know, America...
03:58Oh, it's so good.
03:59Americans are starting to love it, you know.
04:00It's so good, cos when I see all of the celebrities and stuff on Instagram and everything,
04:03and they're going, ah, I've been and stuff, I'm thinking,
04:04right, it's like UI from Rainbow.
04:06It's like, what's going on?
04:08Yeah.
04:09It's quite good.
04:11Do you think people hate on it as well?
04:13People hate on it all the time.
04:15Like, if you talk to someone from like...
04:17One of my favourite things to do is to talk to someone from outside of the back country.
04:21Yeah.
04:22Like, one of my mates is from Liverpool,
04:24and me and her having a conversation,
04:26it just don't go well.
04:27It just don't go well at all.
04:28Like, it's just back and forth all the time.
04:30It's brilliant.
04:31Hey, I'll tell you what, I heard someone say, yeah,
04:33not from round here, obviously not from round here,
04:35but I heard someone say that it sounds a bit dumb.
04:38Black on Jackson sounds a little bit dumb.
04:40Like, it's really hard to sound intelligent for the black country.
04:42What do you think?
04:43Yeah, but like, we don't sound intelligent,
04:46but we are intelligent from where we are.
04:49Like, um...
04:50Plus we've got them street smarts as well.
04:52Exactly.
04:53We've got the street smarts as well.
04:54Some people could be like, academics thought,
04:55we're street smart.
04:56Like, no one can get through Wolverhampton
04:58the way the black country can get through Wolverhampton.
05:00You can't get through Warsaw without being a black country person.
05:03Just like, each time we're up, you've got a...
05:05That's great.
05:06Thank you very much.
05:07That's great, that's great.
