00:09Anastasius Hartman was a Swiss Capuchin priest and missionary who dedicated his life to spreading

00:15Christianity in India and Nepal. Born in Switzerland, he joined the Capuchin order in

00:221821 and took the religious name Anastasius. After completing his theological studies,

00:28he felt a call to missionary work and left for India in 1843. Hartman initially worked in Mumbai,

00:36ministering to the poor and educating local communities. His compassion and linguistic

00:42skills allowed him to connect with people of diverse backgrounds. He tirelessly served in

00:47northern India, despite challenges such as political instability, disease, and opposition

00:54from other religious groups. In 1850, Hartman was entrusted with the apostolic vicariate of Bombay,

01:02now Mumbai, and later took charge of the mission in Nepal. His efforts in Nepal were groundbreaking,

01:08as Christianity was largely prohibited at the time. Despite these difficulties, Hartman continued his

01:15mission with humility, ensuring that his presence was marked by love, education, and charity toward the
