New police officer Jim Carver starts his first day at Sun Hill Police Station, where station sergeant Wilding shows him the ropes. Paired with WPC Ackland he hits the beat in an area where a spate of robberies are plaguing the city. But while they look for likely suspects, what he isn't expecting on his beat is the discovery of a body!

Starring Mark Wingett, Trudie Goodwin, Peter Dean, Gary Olsen, Robert Pugh, Jon Croft, Colin Blumenau, Chris Jenkinson, Richard Huw, Paul McKenzie, Gary Hailes, Colin McCormack, Dawn Perllman, Maryann Turner and Derek Parkes. Part of the Storyboard anthology series, Woodentop would be successful enough to launch a spin off, now known as The Bill, which ran from 1984 to 2010.

02:38It was over 20 minutes ago.
02:41Probably his radio, Sarge.
02:44You can never get a good reception, that side of the guessworks.
02:50Just the same.
02:52You'd better give him a call.
02:56If you can't raise him, contact the area car.

06:35Can you see the name of the pan?
06:49Morning, lads.
06:50Morning, Judge.
06:51Right then, Sade on, one new man, all present and correct.
06:54Right, sit yourselves down.
06:57Oi, come over here and I'll show you what to do.
07:05Right then, first thing on the agenda is to introduce you all to the new man.
07:10Now, PC Carver is just starting his probation and this is his first posting.
07:15And as usual, I want everyone here to give him all the help and all the encouragement that he needs.
07:20And you notice, son, I said help and encouragement and not advice.
07:24If you need advice, you will, you don't ask this shower, okay?
07:29Now, if you want good advice, you come to see me or any of your other duty officers, right?
07:33All right, all right, settle down.
07:36Right then, you can hand these out, please, PC Carver.
07:49Chop, chop, lad.
07:56Right then, first page, first item.
07:58As you can see that we had another break-in last night.
08:01That now makes a total of 15 break-ins on that part of the manor in the last three months.
08:07Now, the M.O. on last night's little caper was very similar.
08:11Now, notice I said similar.
08:13Now, the CID got nothing except for a footprint found at the rear of the premises below the window where entry was gained.
08:20We, uh, are waiting for a class of cars to be sent down, but, as is usual, we'll probably be the last in the long line.
08:29Now, the said footprint is believed to be that of a small person.
08:32It could be a youth or it could be a woman.
08:35The markings on the sole indicate the trainer or sneaker-type footwear.
08:40And, uh, I think that's all we have on that.
08:44Meanwhile, all we can do at this stage is to up the cover on that part of the manor and you'll all be informed.
08:50Meanwhile, just let's try and keep a keen eye out there, okay?
08:54Right then, on to item two.
08:56As you all probably know, the school holidays are about to start.
09:01Yes, yes, I know.
09:02And you're all looking forward to it in your usual gusto.
09:06Now, the Knox Street buildings.
09:08Let's try and keep a keen eye out there.
09:11But, please, let's not go over the top.
09:15I want it firm, but as low profile as post.
09:18I don't want a repeat of last year's egg rolls.
09:22Now, again, there's a new caretaker on the estate, a Mr Stagg, a Mr Alan Stagg.
09:27Now, make a point on making a regular call on this chappy.
09:31He's there all the time, and you're not.
09:34You come in helpful in putting a finger on any potential troublemongers.
09:38That's if they need pointing out.
09:40Now, we've already had some complaints from a few of the residents about gangs of youths
09:45hanging about and causing the disturbances in and around the estate.
09:48Now, again, I want firmness with friendliness and an all-round sense of community belonging.
09:54Just get to know these kids before playing the big copper.
09:57You'd have paid dividends in the end.
10:00Now, there's much one last point on this subject.
10:04I underline the word firmness.
10:06Get to know these kids.
10:08But not, and I repeat, not at the expense of being a good copper.
10:12It's the law first and fair play second.
10:15That's the rule of thumb, right?
10:17Sarge.
10:18Right, then.
10:20P.C.'s Green and Wallace, you'll be on mobile today.
10:24P.C.'s Reid and Morton, you'll be on number five feet.
10:27And keep a special eye on the Knot Street buildings.
10:29I see you're in court today, P.C. Litton.
10:32Yes, Sarge.
10:33Crank in case.
10:34Yes, we'll go with P.C. Rawlings on number six feet.
10:37And keep an eye on the road junction at Merton and Fellerby.
10:39The D.W. are digging again.
10:41Oh, not again, Sarge.
10:42Yes, again.
10:43And if it gets silly, give us a shout.
10:46Sarge.
10:47And you, knock off at nine, get back here, have some breakfast and be in court by 10.30.
10:51Sarge.
10:52Three times this month, they must be digging for Golden.
10:54Yes, and you'll be on front office, P.C. Morgan.
10:56Oh, thank you, Sarge.
10:57All right.
10:58And W.P.C. Acton, hang behind like a few words for you.
11:00Right, then.
11:01Any questions?
11:03No, sir.
11:04Right, then.
11:05Now, let's hit the road and keep it mean and keep it clean.
11:08Have a lovely day.
11:19All right, then, young man.
11:21I suppose you'll wonder what's in store for you.
11:23Yes, Sarge.
11:24Well, I think first a guided tour to Nick.
11:27Then we'll take you in to meet, Inspector.
11:29Right, follow me.
11:34Come.
11:37Ah, morning, sir.
11:38No morning, Jack.
11:41Ah.
11:42A new recruit, I see.
11:43Yes, sir.
11:44In you come, lad.
11:48P.C. Carver, sir.
11:49P.C. Carver, Inspector Deeping.
11:51Sir.
11:52Okay, sir.
11:53That's all.
11:54Right to you, I said.
12:02Welcome to Sun Oak Station, P.C. Carver.
12:06Thank you, sir.
12:07Well, all right, lad.
12:08Relax.
12:09Stand at ease.
12:10You'll find we're an informal bunch around here.
12:12Not all the time, mine.
12:13Sir.
12:14Well, how are they digs?
12:15Okay.
12:16Fine, sir.
12:17Yeah, we're Mrs. Chambers, right?
12:18That's correct, sir.
12:19You, our husband.
12:20Good man.
12:21First-rate policeman.
12:22Take you in there.
12:23The section house is a two-bus job, and they're pushed for space anyway.
12:29Okay, then.
12:30Well, I see by your file you have all the makings of a fine officer.
12:51Thank you, sir.
12:52I also see you intend staying in the uniform branch.
12:54No ambition for CID?
12:55No, sir.
12:56Any particular reason for this?
12:58Oh, yes, sir.
12:59I'm a firm believer in traditional policing methods, sir.
13:01Yes?
13:02And, well, sir, we...
13:03Well, that is the uniform branch of pre, and most of the other branches, including CID,
13:08are post.
13:09We prevent or try to, sir.
13:10The others...
13:11Sir?
13:12Yes?
13:13Yes, sir?
13:14Yes, sir.
13:15Yes, sir?
13:16Yes, sir.
13:17Yes, sir.
13:18Yes, sir.
13:19Yes, sir.
13:20Yes, sir.
13:21Yes, sir.
13:22Yes, sir.
13:23Yes, sir.
13:24Yes, sir.
13:25Yes, sir.
13:26Yes, sir.
13:27Yes, sir.
13:28Yes, sir.
13:29Yes, sir.
13:30That's a very interesting attitude for one so young.
13:34I thought much the same myself as a young police constable.
13:39You may well change your mind after a few months on the street.
13:42Well, I hope not, sir.
13:43Yes, so do I.
13:45Well, it's the norm now for me to give you the standard textbook peck talk,
13:49but having read your file and now having met you, I don't think it'll be necessary.
13:52I trust you already know what is expected of you.
13:54Yes, sir.
13:55Yes, I believe you do.
13:56Well, good luck then once again.
13:59Welcome to Sunhill.
14:08Oh, PC Carver.
14:09Yes, sir.
14:10You gave my very best to Mrs. Chambers, won't you?
14:13Yes, sir.
14:15Any news on PC Litton's exam results here, Sarge?
14:16I wouldn't tell you if there was, Taffy.
14:17Making him sweat to visit.
14:18You're about due for confirmation, aren't you?
14:19Aye.
14:20Six more weeks to go.
14:21Uh-huh.
14:22You going for CID?
14:23I wouldn't tell you even if I knew, Sarge.
14:24That's your cheeky-leaky.
14:25Oh, well, he didn't bite you then.
14:26Oh, well, he didn't bite you then.
14:27Seems like a nice bloke, Sarge.
14:28Yeah, well, uh, that's best my nurse, please.
14:29It's Effie Morgan.
14:30Can't sing, can't play snooker, but no lump of coal from a King Edward.
14:32Pleased to meet you, boy.
14:33Welcome to Sunhill Looneybetton.
14:34Pleased to meet you.
14:35Um, Taffy?
14:36No one can get their lips around my proper name, including me.
14:37It's a very Welsh name, you see.
14:38And mine's Jim, Jimmy.
14:39Oh,터 préfet your liver, although I knew, Sarge.
14:40That's a cheeky-leaky.
14:41Oh, well, he didn't bite you then.
14:42Oh, smells like a nice bloke, Sarge.
14:43Yeah, well, uh, that's best my nurse, please eat lig solve some more ground you're
14:46inlla.
14:47Can't sing, can't play snooker, and wouldn't have no lump of coal for King Edward.
14:48Pleased to meet you, boy.
14:52Welcome to Sunhill Looneybetton.
14:54Pleased to meet you.
14:55Taff.
14:56Right.
14:57No-one can get their lips around my proper name, including me.
14:59It's a very Welsh name, you see.
15:00Oh, Jim and Jimmy. Very unusual, too.
15:02Don't let him get to you, lad. We've got a Welsh wind-up.
15:05Thinks he's the mixed voice of Sonny or Nick.
15:06Him? He's not a proper Welshman, not like me.
15:15All right, then.
15:18They think you ought to do the most important thing, I hand them.
15:20Sarge?
15:21Tea, lad. Make tea.
15:24Yes, well, where's the pot?
15:26Where you last saw it. I'll be back in a jiffy.
15:28And if you want anything, see the cheeky lady there.
15:36Do you know, it's a lot more informal than I expected.
15:39Yeah, well, it's not the army, Jim, Jim.
15:40Oh, you're lucky, really. Welding's one of the best.
15:42It seems so.
15:46Where's the governor's son?
15:47Oh, he's in with the inspector, sir.
15:49Yeah. I want him when he comes out.
15:54D.I. Galloway. C.I.D.
15:56Now, you'll do very well to stay clear of that one, Jim, Jim.
16:00Proper peg ears.
16:02I think he'll make a good prospect, Sam.
16:05Oh, bright lad.
16:06Naive as per norm, but bright enough.
16:08Came to be second in the hat, of course.
16:11You and awareness, Tony.
16:13What would they dream up next?
16:14Don't knock it, Jack.
16:15Very important part of the job these days.
16:17I'm not knocking it, Sam.
16:18We've seen it all before.
16:20Anyway, I'll keep an eye on our new judge.
16:22As ever.
16:23Right, what's the problem?
16:25Well, Night Shift bought in a DD.
16:27Yeah.
16:28Yeah, I know, Sam, but this one is slightly different.
16:31Oh?
16:32Yeah, he's got a clean sheet.
16:35And he seems like a nice, quiet member of society.
16:37Except that his knuckles are all skinned.
16:39And he's bruised.
16:40Fight?
16:41Well, there's no disturbance locked.
16:43And I've tried bringing his home a couple of times.
16:44Can't get an answer.
16:46Why so late with the worries?
16:48Well, Night Shift couldn't get a current word out.
16:50Okay.
16:51Well, you'd better send someone round there.
16:54PC, WPC.
16:56Well, I'm very short on manpower, Sam.
16:58And I was thinking of WPC Ackland and the new lad, Carver.
17:02First day?
17:04Well, I've got PC moving on comp decks.
17:06Couldn't put young Carver on there on his first day.
17:08That wouldn't be fair.
17:09And she's puppy-hooked before.
17:11Yeah, okay, Jack.
17:12Do you think that?
17:12It's probably nothing, anyway.
17:14Look, I told you I'd be down in about ten minutes.
17:17What will worry about from WPC Ackland?
17:18Anything on the beat?
17:20Right, I find it.
17:22Joke was his search.
17:23Morning.
17:24A word in your shell, Mark?
17:26Please.
17:38You all are cocked up against me.
17:41What, it's the first I've heard?
17:42Yeah.
17:43The PC Rawlings.
17:45Word up out here.
17:46Nothing.
17:46Look at the dabs we pull.
17:52And you lot wonder why we call you wooden tubs and wallies, eh?
17:56If you've got any complaints, Inspector, you're putting through the proper channels, okay?
17:59Yeah, just about ESP for your mother, you're on a proper channel.
18:01Yeah, and it's a pity your mother's not the same.
18:03And it's a bloody pity your little mob don't learn to keep their bloody hands off things when they get called out on a break and enter.
18:08PC bloody Rawlings, dabs were everywhere.
18:10If that's the case, Inspector, be rest assured PC Rawlings will be on the ready carpet, okay?
18:14You've just seen that he is, eh?
18:15I've got two officers watching George Tyler's drumming.
18:25Tell your mum to stay clear.
18:27It'd be just all up to have one of your boys putting his big foot in it again, hmm?
18:31With all due respect, Inspector, instructions of that nature, I'd better pass it on to my lads at Parade Farm.
18:37We have one, far to every shift start.
18:40However, I'll see about getting it passed along.
18:43Now, we'll have the old Inspector.
18:44Oh, Sarge.
18:50Ah, you've seen him then, the rum-brum.
18:52He gave you permission to leave your desk, PC Morgan, and I'll have your ruddy guts on a pipe if I ever be able to refer to a synopsis in that man again.
18:58Do you hear, lad?
18:58Yes, Sargeant.
18:59You know, you're lucky.
19:04They don't normally let probates loose on the public for the first week.
19:08Yes, I know.
19:08Short on manpower.
19:12Sorry, I mean personnel.
19:14Yeah, well, very soon they'll drop that W out.
19:16We're all police constables, regardless of sex.
19:20Oh.
19:20Or are you one of those male bastion types?
19:23Not at all, lad.
19:24Right, then.
19:25Are you all set?
19:26Yes, Sarge.
19:27Good.
19:30Now, nice and casual, okay?
19:32If you can't get an answer, check with the neighbours.
19:35Anything else, Sarge?
19:36Yes, there is one thing.
19:38CID got a couple of buds keeping tabs on Georgie Taylor's drum.
19:41Now, when you get there, you can't...
19:42Yeah, don't acknowledge or make our presents for them.
19:44Okay, then.
19:45Right.
19:47Sarge.
19:50All right, then, lad.
19:51Now, listen, watch and learn.
19:54Okay?
19:54Bye, Sarge.
19:55Right.
19:56Walkies.
19:58It's called puppy walking, sir.
20:00You'll get used to it.
20:03Who's this George Taylor, Chetley?
20:05George Taylor's the local villain.
20:07Local hard man.
20:09CID have been after him for a long, long time.
20:11Oh.
20:16Well, I gather from TAF, uh, Pussy Morgan?
20:18Hmm.
20:19But Sir Sergeant Moulding and that CID bod donated it off.
20:22That's an understatement.
20:24Oh, D.I. Galloway's a bright bastard, make no mistake.
20:28Good cop of mine.
20:30Oh, sure.
20:30I mean, you don't make D.I. without being on the ball, do you?
20:33Well, I'm not sure as I entirely agree with that statement.
20:36I'll take your point.
20:37I suppose you're going to try for CID if you stick it out.
20:48Oh, no.
20:48Not me.
20:49No, I'll stick with the uniform branch.
20:51Ha.
20:52We'll see.
20:53Well, CID doesn't interest me in any shape or form.
20:58Oh, this is what I like.
21:00I can see you and Dave getting on like a house on fire.
21:03Dave?
21:03Yeah, Dave Litton.
21:05You met him at parade this morning.
21:08Oh, yes.
21:09Uh, he's in court today, right?
21:10Yeah.
21:11Well, he was a bit like you until he did his two-week attachment to CID.
21:16He came back to us a changed man.
21:19CID are his gods, especially bloody D.I. Galloway.
21:23Well, is he been in long enough now?
21:25Yeah.
21:26He sat the exams two months ago.
21:29Been on tender hooks ever since.
21:30Oh, silly Sarge's already talking about CID.
21:35He already refers to us like those wooden tops.
21:38Really?
21:38Yeah.
21:40How's a Sarge feel about that?
21:42Wouldn't say anything like that in front of Sarge.
21:45Skin him alive.
21:46I bet he would.
21:48Do you know, I like him.
21:49He seems like a really good bloke.
21:51Oh, he is.
21:52Mind you, foul up and he's down on you like a ton of...
21:55Oi!
21:56Oi!
21:56You don't ride on the pavement, right?
22:07No, miss.
22:13Where do you live?
22:15Up straight.
22:16In a flat.
22:16Yes.
22:21Where you been?
22:22Paper Hill?
22:23Yes, miss.
22:24What's your name, Sam?
22:30Uh, Winston Sam Smith.
22:32I'm sorry, miss.
22:32I won't take care of him.
22:33I'm honest.
22:35You're all right, Winston.
22:36On your way.
22:37And don't let me catch you doing it again.
22:39I'm just...
22:40You're wondering why I asked him his name, right?
22:51Yes, I am.
22:51Well, I asked him his name because there have been a spate of break-ins on the patch recently.
22:57Oh, no, there's...
22:57Now, a paper boy might just know who's home and who's away, right?
23:01Right.
23:02I'll check when we get back to the Nick if all the injured parties have a paper delivered.
23:07If so, from which shop?
23:08Can you follow me?
23:10Thanks.
23:11CID may well have overlooked the possibility.
23:15You're alone.
23:19Come on!
23:19Come on!
23:49Shall I try next door?
24:16Yeah.
24:16Just ask if the lady...
24:17She's gone.
24:18You won't get an answer there.
24:19Where?
24:20Do you know where she's gone?
24:21You know the lady, then?
24:22Yeah, I know.
24:23Well, she's had enough of the old man's days, so she packed her bags and had it away.
24:27And you saw her leave?
24:28I helped her pack.
24:30Her old man's like a wet weekend.
24:32That silly pack.
24:32Yes.
24:33Well, when was this, madam?
24:34Uh, yesterday afternoon, before our silly balls came out.
24:37Thank you for your help.
24:38Thank you, madam.
24:39Welcome, I'm sure.
24:47Cooey!
24:48I say hello.
24:49Yes, madam.
24:50I wonder, did that lady tell you about old Mrs Dunn in number 87?
24:54No.
24:54What about her?
24:55Well, she's very old, see.
24:57Nobody's seen her for a while.
24:59She's always sticking her bloody nose in.
25:01Well, how long since you've seen Mrs Dunn, madam?
25:02Well, I'm a busy woman, see.
25:04I mean, I do try.
25:05Yeah, how long, madam?
25:07Must be about three weeks.
25:10I'll go get the caretaker.
25:15Um, is it this flat, madam?
25:17Perhaps that one.
25:21And if you go down there, you'll find him somewhere.
25:23You just have to wander about.
25:26Very good lady.
25:27I ain't got keys to every flippin' flat.
25:30Your job.
25:31You should have done something about yourself.
25:32Mrs Dunn.
25:35Oh, you too much.
25:40Mrs Dunn?
25:44Well, you're in, Mrs Dunn.
25:47Well, the police come.
25:49They broke down the door.
25:50Oh, my God.
26:03Was she in there?
26:04Don't go in.
26:05Oh, don't be so ridiculous.
26:06Come on.
26:10Oh, Christ.
26:11Oh, God, I bet you that was an audible.
26:26God, I bet you that was an audible sight.
26:41William, this is your best friend.
26:42I've never been there for nine and three weeks.
26:44Have a few weeks.
26:44Oh, right, all right.
26:45There's a glist and detail.
26:47Poor old Jim, Jimmy.
26:48First time out.
26:49First day either.
26:50Sarge, don't tell me.
26:51Case cooked back.
26:52Yeah, it seems that Mr Franklin's on a sickness, Sarge.
26:54Oh, I've got yourself a cuppa.
26:56It's all sunny out.
26:57Cheers, Sarge.
26:58Where's our new boy then?
26:59Had enough already, has he?
27:00Oh, little sud.
27:01Hey, you went up with WPC at a clunt.
27:04She's never put anyone off.
27:08Excuse me, Sarge.
27:09Can we just check these through for me, please?
27:14All right, sure, love.
27:15Let's go through to your desk.
27:21Think she heard?
27:22All right.
27:23Heard like a bat, that one.
27:24She looks a bit green behind the gills.
27:25Anything else?
27:26Take a deep breath.
27:28You should be used to all that nonsense by now.
27:30Yeah, I know, Sarge.
27:31I thought I was.
27:33It's just that sometimes, aren't they?
27:38Yeah, I know.
27:39Sometimes they slip under your guard.
27:40Oh, and how?
27:41The old flat stand by garden lane.
27:43Poor horrible.
27:44Not a murder.
27:45No, no, no, no.
27:46An ode a day, the natural.
27:47But a horrible sight, the way all the comes.
27:49How you keep saying, I'm saying.
27:51How you keep saying.
27:53All right, Gav.
27:53All right, Dave.
27:54How's it going, Gav?
27:55All right, you know, keep pressing.
27:56I don't know what I mean, Gav.
27:57Yeah, don't you mean I've some.
28:02Hey, Gav!
28:03Especially days.
28:05Excuse us, boss.
28:05Yes.
28:08Look, uh, come off her to her a moment.
28:11I know.
28:15It's a rough, tough old job.
28:18We do it right.
28:19And it's all we get what's in our wage packets at the end of the month.
28:22Do it wrong.
28:23And we get so much shit.
28:24Yeah, I know, Sarge.
28:25I know.
28:25Listen, do you do yourself a favor.
28:29Take some good advice from an old hand.
28:31Never get emotionally involved with anybody in the job.
28:34It's a million for cock-up all round.
28:37It never works, love.
28:38Honestly.
28:39Yeah, yeah, I know.
28:40Anyway, you're too classy for the likes of Dave Litton.
28:44Do you think so?
28:46I know, sir.
28:48Oh, I was ten years younger.
28:49I'll be dancing off your feet.
28:51Come on.
28:52I've got work to do.
28:55Yeah, they're like little puppies, Dave.
28:57My good grass needs this cobbler that's squeezed now and again.
29:00They're not only needed, man, or something.
29:02They like it.
29:02Not only.
29:03Yes, Gav.
29:04You said join someone in there.
29:05Cheers.
29:05How's the tailor thing shaving, Gav?
29:12What shouldn't I ask?
29:14Ah, sorry, Dave.
29:15Ah, he's not moving too well, actually.
29:18He's a slippery little bastard, but I'll nail him.
29:21They're too late to do an OB's in him, so stay clever, eh?
29:23Oh, of course, Gav.
29:24I mean, I'd never knowledge any of your team while I'm out of the trial.
29:27Well, you never know, eh, Gav?
29:28That's right, Dave.
29:29You never know.
29:32Well, it shouldn't be too long now, eh?
29:33You're glad to get rid of those buttons, won't you?
29:37Oh, yeah.
29:39Yeah, why not, just.
29:42John?
29:43See you, Gav.
29:44See you, Dave.
29:51Hello, Sunshine.
29:52All right, are we?
29:53Hello.
29:53Yes, thanks.
29:55You don't look it.
29:59Found the sniff, I hear.
30:01Yeah, yeah, it's an old lady.
30:02It's a bit messy.
30:05It's pitiful.
30:07Yeah.
30:08First day and all.
30:10Still, you'll get used to it.
30:11Well, I don't think so.
30:13Dave, Dave Letton didn't get a chance of proper intro this morning.
30:16Jim, Jimmy Carver, it's nice to meet you.
30:17Wooden Top's like, I'm afraid, directing traffic and finding old stiffs.
30:21Don't tell you that at Hendon, though, do they?
30:22Well, they do, but it just don't seem real, then.
30:25Nothing was real there, old son.
30:26Stay tuned.
30:48Beep.
30:49What's this doing about bin, Jack?
31:07It's a beat crew.
31:08Not CID.
31:09Okay?
31:17Bloody superstars.
31:19You wait till you do your CID attachment, old son.
31:23You'll soon see all this yes-sir-no-sir stuff.
31:28All right, then. Feeling better?
31:30Yes, Sarge. Thanks. Much, much better.
31:31I said he'll get used to it, eh, Sarge?
31:33If you say so. Peace he little.
31:35All right, then.
31:36This man needs a bit of fresh air.
31:38Take him out on foot patrol.
31:39Show him the man.
31:40Sarge.
31:42Oh, and just one thing. CID have got a couple of boats.
31:44A couple of boats keeping their bees on George Taylor's gaff.
31:46I know, Sarge. D.R. Galloway told me.
31:48I'm steady now.
31:58Walkies.
31:58Yeah, all this traditional policing method stuff.
32:11Just a load of old white watch the top brass dreamed up.
32:15I don't really believe it.
32:17It all sounds good.
32:19A load of old crap.
32:20Well, how long you been in there, then, Dave?
32:26Nah, just now for two years.
32:28Can't wait to get out of this lot, though.
32:30It's a mags game.
32:34No, I'm afraid you're going to have to come in.
32:37No, there's a few forms to fill in.
32:39You had words of rolling, Jude?
32:40Not yet, Inspector.
32:41Inspector, when I do, you'll be first, don't I?
32:43Yeah, you'll be better.
32:46Ah, you're handicapped.
32:50Oh, Inspector.
32:53WPCF, and they called to stop a young lad this morning.
32:55Paperboy.
32:57Because we're in sneakers.
32:59So does just about every other kid in the world.
33:02Yeah, I know.
33:03So you're like, figure, um, paperboy, sneakers, breaking his connections, right?
33:11Well, it's a possibility.
33:12Just plain old foot with snow wind, brother, being passed out.
33:14And you think CID haven't covered that angle already?
33:17Mate, how do you have addressed this as well?
33:20What do you think I'm running in here?
33:2117.
33:22What do you swear to dumbass?
33:25Ah, I know helping some people with that.
33:278, 3, 7, 6.
33:29There's a place to keep an eye on.
33:33All the local yachts use it.
33:36From time to time, we're going and turn it over.
33:41Why?
33:44Because it needs it, that's why.
33:46Most of the kids in here are on drugs.
33:49When they can't get in, they switch to glue.
33:53Should have been closed down years ago.
33:59Have you ever been across on your own, you know, just popped in the chat with the owner?
34:02Listen, mate, you don't go into places like that on your jet, right?
34:06I don't believe you.
34:11Well, why not?
34:13Don't even think about it, all right?
34:17WPC Acklin tends to be as cynical as you.
34:19Oh, is that right?
34:21Hold on.
34:23What's the matter?
34:23Quick, follow me.
34:24We have two yobs in the back garden.
34:31What do we do?
34:32We could be quiet, right?
34:33See what's what.
34:50Now, won't move your foot.
34:51That's all right, man.
34:52This is a good call.
34:52All right, come out, it's the police.
34:55Get over the wall, Jim.
34:55What?
34:56Get over the wall.
34:58God damn.
35:07Right, where's your mate?
35:08I'm sorry, I'm sorry, you're hurting me.
35:09All right.
35:10All right, lads, come on out.
35:11I don't want to come in here and get you.
35:14Well, it's a very trouble.
35:16It's a good boy.
35:17My favourite thing has been Mr. Honest.
35:22I don't want to come in here.
35:23I don't want to come in here.
35:24I don't want to come in here.
35:25I don't want to come in here.
35:26I don't want to come in here.
35:27Right, then.
35:28What are you two doing, then?
35:29We weren't doing nothing, Mr. Honest.
35:31Honest.
35:32What were you doing in there, then?
35:33Well, you'd better come clean, lads.
35:34Those are just down the station.
35:35It's up to you.
35:36I was just after that.
35:37Just scrumpting Mr. Honest.
35:38I saw you this morning, lad, didn't I?
35:39Yeah, you and that lady cop.
35:40I towed us off for riding my bike.
35:41Right, turn out your pockets.
35:42Come on, let's see what you've got.
35:44I'll WPC Acklin told this lad off this morning.
35:47Well, my dad told me never to ride him.
35:48Be quiet.
35:49Pick them up.
35:50Pick them up.
35:51Right.
35:52I think we'll take these two down and nick.
35:53You get their names and addresses.
35:54I'll put a call out the car.
35:55All right.
35:56You get their names and addresses.
35:57I'll put a call out the car.
35:58The station's sure it's not right.
35:59No, no, no, no.
36:00Right, turn out your pockets.
36:01That's all right.
36:02Turn out your pockets.
36:03Come on, let's see what you've got.
36:05I'll WPC Acklin told this lad off this morning.
36:07Well, my dad told me never to ride him, no.
36:08Be quiet.
36:09Pick them up.
36:10Right.
36:11I think we'll take these two down and nick.
36:12You get their names and addresses.
36:13I said be quiet.
36:14You get their names and addresses,
36:15I'll put a call out the car, all right?
36:16The station's sure it's not right.
36:17I don't know how to do that, man.
36:18What's wrong with you?
36:19There's two lads doing what kids have been doing since a year.
36:21Doc, there's only scrumping.
36:22That's what it's doing, mister.
36:23Look, just give me a moment, will ya?
36:24Right, lads.
36:25Right, names.
36:26I know you're Winston Summers.
36:27What's yours?
36:28Look, we'll do this, Dan and Nick.
36:29All right?
36:30You better sit quiet, right, while it sucks out.
36:31No one even won't shut up.
36:32What the hell do you think they're doing?
36:33Dave, there's no harm done.
36:34There was only scrumping.
36:35You silly little buck.
36:36Now, just get out.
36:37You get out.
36:38I'll put out I'll call the car.
36:39What a bloody first-class cock up.
36:40Sarge, it won't work, please.
36:41Silence.
36:42Right, now, let's get this straight.
36:43You caught those two kids messing around in the back garden, right?
36:44Yeah, that's right.
36:45And then you figured they was up to no good, right?
36:46Yeah, well, it was possible, Sarge.
36:47Yes, it bloody well was.
36:48And you, you, you bloody young fool, decided to play the social-minded young copper, huh?
36:53Smacked their wrists and send them home, Sarge, I was under.
36:54Silence.
36:55Don't you ever interrupt me, lad.
36:56Don't you realise what you've done?
36:57Don't you realise what the consequences could be?
36:58Yes, Sarge, but...
36:59Silence, don't interrupt me!
37:00That lad is.
37:01That lad is.
37:02It's fine.
37:03All right, now, let's get this straight.
37:04You caught those two kids messing around in the back garden, right?
37:06You caught those two kids messing around in the back garden, right?
37:07Yeah, that's right.
37:08And then you figured they was up to no good, right?
37:09Yeah, it was possible, Sarge.
37:10Well, it was possible, Sarge.
37:11Yes, it bloody well was.
37:12Then you, you, you, you bloody young fool, decided to play the social-minded young copper, huh?
37:13Don't you realise what he'd done? Don't you realise what the consequences could be?
37:18Yes, Sarge, but...
37:19Silas, don't interrupt me!
37:21Get that lad in there.
37:23All his parents decided to push this.
37:25You, PC Carver, have made bloody history.
37:27Suspended on your first ruddy day.
37:29And you, you ruddy well watched it all happen.
37:32Don't you understand when you go out into that beat with a probationary PC
37:36and so is your bloody responsibility?
37:38He cocks it up and so do you. Do you understand, PC Len?
37:41Yes, Sarge.
37:42Good.
37:43I hope you bear it in mind.
37:45Right, you, out.
37:47And I'll talk with you later.
38:03Some fine first day you put in.
38:07You remember, lad. Things are different.
38:09We can't go onto that beat and start dishing out what punishment we think's thick.
38:12That's not our job.
38:13Sarge, I was only...
38:14I know what you were trying to do, lad, but you was wrong.
38:16Now you're in numbers, so is little and so am I.
38:19Just shut up and listen and learn.
38:23Now, the rule book is your Bible.
38:25I want you to read it, learn it, and act by it.
38:29It was made with everybody in mind, and that includes you.
38:32Do we understand verbose enough?
38:33Sarge.
38:34Good.
38:35Now book off and get off home if you've done enough harm for one day.
38:38Go on, on your bike, laddy.
38:39Sarge.
38:40What?
38:41Sarge.
38:42What do I do?
38:43What happens now?
38:44You go home, and you worry, lad.
38:45You're not out of the woods yet.
38:46You've got one thing in your favour.
38:50This ship's still got three-quarter and hour to run.
38:51The incident.
38:53Very well, man.
38:54What?
38:55I don't know.
38:56You're not out of the woods yet.
39:05You're not out of the woods yet.
39:06You've got one thing in your favour.
39:09This ship's still got 3 quarters of an hour to run.
39:13The incident hasn't been locked in the action book yet.
39:17Go on.
39:30Yeah, problem?
39:31Nothing I can't cope with, I hope.
39:39Go on, for you.
39:41Spare us a few minutes, please, wife.
39:44Come in.
39:52George Taylor.
39:54What about him?
39:57Oh, no. Your mob hasn't been around.
40:00Oh, no, my lot's been nowhere near him.
40:02That's something at least, eh?
40:07Well, you know him fairly well.
40:09What have I done?
40:13What are you trying to say, Jack?
40:15Look, boy, I'm trying to ask for your help, but you don't exactly make it easy, do you?
40:19Yeah.
40:21You've got some bloody front, do you know that?
40:23Especially after that business earlier.
40:26I am poxed off with your mob, bonging every silly little beatcrime over to us, right?
40:30Look, that's a separate issue.
40:32No.
40:33Is that right?
40:34Yes.
40:35Okay, Jack.
40:36It's a separate issue.
40:38Just for the moment.
40:39So, what's the SP?
40:43Well, I had a new probation to start today.
40:46Yeah, I saw him.
40:47So?
40:48Well, then I sent him out on foot patrol with PC Litton earlier.
40:51Good lad, Dave Litton.
40:52Do well in our mob.
40:53Yeah.
40:54Provided he gets the chance.
40:56Well, I have a bit of good information that he's done well at the exam.
41:01Unless you know something I don't, Jack.
41:04Well, you could say that.
41:06Look, Litton and Carver pulled two lads while out on foot patrol.
41:09Caught and messing around.
41:10Thank God.
41:12Yeah.
41:13Well, things got a mite silly and the new lad, he wanted to clip a man here and send him
41:18a phone.
41:19Just like the old days, eh, Jack?
41:22Yeah.
41:23Before PC Litton could do anything, the new man did exactly that.
41:27Well, bonged him around the lug.
41:30Good luck to him.
41:31I like it.
41:32Yeah.
41:33The young lad that he clipped that year was Reggie Taylor.
41:36Georgie Taylor's name.
41:39I don't believe him.
41:42Look, I sent the two kids home, but I'm still worried about a complaint here, mate.
41:47I've got to talk to Georgie Taylor as soon as you know.
41:50I hope you'll ease the way.
41:52You are.
41:53Are you serious?
41:54I'm dead serious.
41:55I've got two of my wares well up and off and Georgie Taylor goes the other way.
41:58You ain't got some bloody shit, John.
41:59I've got some bloody shit, John.
42:00And...
42:09Evening, Mr Galloway, sir.
42:10George.
42:11Point of bitter, please, love.
42:12On a scotch.
42:13Drink.
42:14Cheers.
42:15Oh, yeah, and a packet of nuts.
42:16Yeah.
42:17Mixed, love.
42:18Is this a social call or what?
42:19George meets Sergeant Wiley.
42:20Mr Galloway.
42:21Mr Galloway.
42:22Mr Galloway.
42:23Oh, Mr. Galloway.
42:24You're always iffy when you lot start with all that bit.
42:25Do I sit or do I leg it?
42:26You're alright, George.
42:27For the time being, that is.
42:28I'll go.
42:29You're all right, George.
42:30I'm sorry.
42:31I'm fine.
42:32It's a good job.
42:33I'm sorry.
42:34I'm sorry, George.
42:35I'm sorry.
42:36I'm sorry.
42:37I'm sorry.
42:38I'm sorry.
42:39I'm sorry I'm fine.
42:40You're all welcome.
42:41I'm sorry.
42:42I'm sorry.
42:43I'm sorry.
42:44What do you do?
42:46I'll take it.
42:47I'll do it.
42:48I'll do it.
42:49I'll do it.
42:50Okay, sir.
42:51I'll do it.
42:52I'll do it.
42:53I'm going to see me father, love. It's his treat.
42:57Turn it up, Gav. I'm being a good boy, honest.
43:01Yeah, of course you are, George. Of course you are.
43:05I'll be over there when you're done, huh?
43:09Thanks.
43:13Excuse me, Mr. Taylor there. Can we have a chat?
43:17Oh, yeah. What about? Well, it's about your young lad, Reg.
43:21Well, what's he been up to?
43:25Look, if my lad's in any bar, then I'll straighten him out, so help us.
43:29One wrong in a family is enough, right? Yeah, yeah.
43:33Look, Mr. Taylor, two of my lads caught your lad and a pal of his
43:37messing around in a back garden earlier today.
43:39Little kid. Oh, no, no, it's nothing serious.
43:41It's just scrumping. There's no harm done. Oh?
43:45Look, I've got this brand spanking new probationer under my wing,
43:49fresh out of Vendam. Pity you so.
43:51Well, it was in the college you were laying, Reg.
43:55Oh, go on, tell us.
43:57He wanted to nick somebody.
43:59They're all the same, these new ones.
44:01You should have given him a bang round a earhole
44:03and sent him home, like in the old days.
44:05Bleeding new coppers.
44:07I'm glad you see it like that, Mr. Taylor,
44:09because that's exactly what the, er, said probationer did.
44:15Straight up?
44:17Afraid so.
44:21Well, I'll fall about in our backyard.
44:23It's over you lot yet.
44:27So, what's the problem?
44:29I don't think there is one, Mr. Taylor.
44:31Can I buy you another scotch?
44:33All right.
44:35I'm going back to the station.
44:37Well, thanks a lot, boy.
44:39That's a lot off my mind.
44:40Yeah, that's one you owe me.
44:41Remember, Jack, a big one.
44:43Won't bail you out a second time.
44:45You call it any time you like, I appreciate it.
44:47I didn't do it for you.
44:49Why, you knew, bloody trog?
44:51I did it for Dave Litton.
44:53It's not no probationer needs his bloody asking
44:55for putting Dave up an offer like that.
44:57And so do you.
44:59They're putting an offer suit.
45:07Bloody superstars.
45:27Jack.
45:41Come.
45:45You've learnt the clothes that look quieter by now, Sam.
45:47You must have smelled it, Jack.
45:49Join me.
45:51It's about the best offer I've had all day.
45:55Glad as that, eh?
45:56Oh, don't ask.
46:10Cheers.
46:11Cheers.
46:16Oh, that's better.
46:22I suppose you've heard, Sam.
46:24There's nothing goes on in this station I don't know about, Jack.
46:27You should have realised that by now.
46:28Yeah, nothing gets past you, Sam.
46:32It's your own bloody fault.
46:33Putting him out too soon.
46:34Yeah, I know.
46:38So, you've been working overtime to pull his ass out of the fire.
46:41All part of the job, Sam.
46:43Oh, ho, ho.
46:44Hark at the hard man of Sunhill Nick.
46:46Yeah, I remember a few years back when we were pounding the pavement of Islington together.
46:51A few years back, Sam.
46:52More like 20.
46:54Was it as long as that?
46:56Well, you were a stickler for the rules in those days, mate.
46:58I can tell you.
47:00Things were different then, Sam.
47:01Coppers were looked up to.
47:03And what Carver did out there today is exactly what me and you have done.
47:06Clipped the buggers round here and packed them off home.
47:08Yeah, well, like you said, mate, things were different.
47:16Anyway, you get it all sorted.
47:18Yeah, I got it all sussed.
47:20Except that arse gal away for some help, though.
47:23I'll bet that hurt the old pride a bit.
47:26You enjoying this, aren't you, Sam?
47:28Well, if you're a fool, Jack, you would say a sergeant.
47:30Oh, don't start all that again, Sam.
47:32I like it at my level and I'm good at it.
47:34Oh, I'll give you that.
47:38Thanks very much.
47:39Don't mention it.
47:42No, you'd have made a good inspector, Jack.
47:46And you weren't a better sergeant, Sam.
47:47Not that you was one for too long.
47:49No, sometimes I regret not staying a sergeant.
47:51I miss the contact.
47:52Your level of involvement.
47:53Yeah, well, you've been here and I ain't been there.
47:55Cheers.
47:56Cheers.
48:01There's a trouble with this job, Sam.
48:03We never really leave that off, do we?
48:05Not really.
48:06Night.
48:07All right.
48:08All right.
48:37All right.
48:38I like that footage of the night candle,
48:42and I wanted to show aります,
48:42and we look for a conviction on them.
48:44So some of these findings areличical blonde one,
48:47but the puter'sria from the Stone 4000 hand if I was to,
48:48I think he was able to do well.
48:49And this is the reason that he had a huge white gutter in my head.
48:50All right.
48:50There's a lot ofTON there.
48:51This is ason is important,
48:52and this is critical.
48:53You ever can't do it,
48:54and I better try to sell all things.
48:56It's easy to access the vision.
48:57It's easy to do it.
49:00You never believe that it's HESEL,
49:02we can do it.
49:03Nothing to find out with this locks
