00:00Welcome back. The 17th BRICS Summit closed on Monday in Brazil after two days of talks
00:12aimed at strengthening global self-cooperation and amid tariffs threats from US President
00:17Donald Trump. From Rio de Janeiro are corresponding Ignacio Lemus with the details.
00:22The BRICS countries are causing discomfort, Lula da Silva said at the closing of the event
00:28shared by Brazil in Rio de Janeiro. Ours earlier, Donald Trump had announced studies for countries
00:33that adhere to the measures promoted by the BRICS and assured that he is closely monitoring
00:37the situation of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, whom he considers is being
00:41persecuted as he is investigated as one of the architects of an attempted coup in 2023.
00:46I don't think it's very responsible or serious for the president of a country the size of the United States
00:58to spend his time threatening the world via the internet.
01:05It's not right.
01:08He needs to realize that the world has changed.
01:13We don't want an emperor, we are sovereign countries. If he thinks he can impose tariffs,
01:20other countries have the right to impose tariffs too. There is such a thing as the law of reciprocity.
01:29The Brazilian Foreign Ministry expressed its gratitude for Russia and China's support
01:33for greater participation by Brazil and India in the UN Security Council. The BRICS members asserted
01:39that reformulation of the entity is necessary, as they consider it paralyzed in the face of the
01:44proliferation of armed conflicts around the world. We share positions on key issues on the international
01:52agenda, and confirm our desire to shape a more just, multipolar world order, based on the principles of the
02:01United Nations, and not separate principles. As our Western partners, when they choose the principles that
02:09seem most convenient to them, in the context of their international adventures, but rather the universal
02:17system as it was created, written, and then amended by different countries in its entirety,
02:23and in accordance with the requirements of the United Nations Charter.
02:28The bloc's expansion did not hinder the work at the summit. When asked about Venezuela's absence and
02:35the possibility of other Latin American members joining, Lula da Silva said that the BRICS are a
02:41constantly evolving entity, and that the doors have never closed. Cuba's entry was considered
02:47valuable in the area of health. The Cuban Minister of Health was in Brazil for the BRICS meeting,
02:54and visited the Fiocruz Institute, because there are Fiocruz products developed today that are available in
03:00Brazil through the unified health system, which is the result of cooperation with Cuba. These include
03:06important medicines for blood diseases and vaccines in everything related to technology in Cuba that is
03:12important for Brazil and for the BRICS. We want to strengthen that cooperation and produce more.
03:18Environment, artificial intelligence and health were the main themes debated in the search for a more
03:22balanced world. Environmental discussions are not progressing in the direction and at the speed
03:30required. Wealthy societies are reluctant to change their unsustainable patterns of production and
03:37consumption. Solutions are being postponed. Minimal commitments are being made. And there is no
03:45political will on the part of those who should be contributing most to solving the environmental crisis.
03:52The challenges of global health are no less complex. The gaps between countries and populations,
03:58inequality in access to health services, medical supplies, and technologies, and the imposition of
04:06unilateral coercive measures, exclude tens of millions of human beings from the vital right to health.
04:15Brazil promises to continue working on the BRICS activities until the end of the year when the
04:19presidency will be transferred to India.
