00:00And this is the live ring walk of Bruno Brunello, not Canelo, Brunello Suraz.
00:15We were joking because that's a nickname that he's got like since he was a kid.
00:18But, you know, it almost sounds like.
00:20Yeah, I originally thought I was like, is he like the French Canelo?
00:22Is that what Brunello means?
00:24Apparently not.
00:26We're about to find out, right?
00:27But with Suraz, for those who are not so familiar with him, what does he bring to the table?
00:34He honestly fights a lot like Jaime Mugia.
00:35He's like a French version of Jaime Mugia who doesn't hit as hard.
00:39He throws a ton of punches as well.
00:40He's very aggressive.
00:41He loves the right hand, whereas Mugia loves the left hand.
00:44But he's a very capable guy, obviously undefeated.
00:46Talking about the tail of tape here.
00:48Young, 26 years old.
00:49Two years actually younger than Jaime Mugia.
00:51But similar in size.
00:53Height the same.
00:53Reach one inch advantage for Mugia.
00:56But both these guys, big, big super middleweights.
00:57I think, obviously, the advantage in the experience of Jaime Mugia is stark and in the opposition.
01:07And, quite frankly, in the knockout ratio, right?
01:09I mean, Bruno Suraz, although undefeated at 25-0, just four knockouts.
01:13You'll see, he fights as if he can punch.
01:16He's also very tenacious in his approach.
01:19He throws that right hand with bad intentions.
01:21He's just not a heavy-handed guy.
01:22And making his North American debut tonight.
01:26Fighting outside of his native France for the first time as a professional.
01:30Jaime Munguia!
01:40Se va volcado al ataque.
01:45Jaime Munguia!
02:08And now making his way to the ring in his backyard at Tijuana, Baja, California,
02:20Jaime Munguia returning back home for the first time since February of 2022.
02:25Jaime Munguia!
02:55And there is Jaime Munguia, 28 years old, 44-1 with 35 knockouts.
03:07And it was really important for Jaime to fight back in Tijuana, to stay active, to give back to his fans.
03:14And a much bigger star and bigger name than he was the last time he fought there, which was, as I mentioned, back in February of 2022.
03:20Yeah, having that platform fighting Canelo Alvarez, you know, the face of boxing, especially the face of Mexican boxing, but also having that, a good performance.
03:29You know, I said that he was very respectful in that performance in terms of how we performed.
03:36But it's gotten better, even better since then.
03:39And from all the things you were alluding to based on what was available in camp, I think that we're seeing a much improved Jaime Munguia since the Canelo Alvarez fight.
03:47Yeah, and even that great fight with Sergei Ketevernichenko.
03:50Fight of the Year candidate.
03:51I mean, amazing fight.
03:53Actually, I think it was the fight of the year.
03:55Amazing fight.
03:56Had to pull out the victory with a late round body shot, knocked down.
04:07So this was something that was important to Jaime, something that he wanted, very focused.
04:11You can see, I mean, didn't even look like he got a haircut for this fight.
04:14I mean, he is just like ready to get to work.
04:17But that's really all you can ask for.
04:18He's not sitting on that Canelo money.
04:20Nope.
04:20Nope.
04:21A lot of guys sit out.
04:22If you fight Canelo, you get the bag, you don't see him for a year or two.
04:25Not Jaime Munguia.
04:26He took six months off, came right back to the ring, and also fought a very tough guy.
04:29Bazinian was no joke.
04:31He did less than six months off.
04:32He fought Canelo and may have fought Bazinian in September.
04:36And now back again in December.
04:38Yeah, five minutes.
04:39Four months.
04:40Jeez.
04:40But that's what you want in your top fighters.
04:45Stay active.
04:45Stay busy.
04:47Increase your profile.
04:48And it's still kept him relevant in the rankings, and it's still probably going to lead him to another world title opportunity should he continue to win in 2025.
04:56I mean, there's talks of that Christian Munguia fight.
04:59I mean, sign me up for that.
05:01That's a fantastic matchup.
05:02Can't miss action fight.
05:03I agree.
05:04Both affiliated with top rank.
05:06It's a very makeable fight.
05:07I think the WBC actually just ordered that as the mandatory.
05:11The fight, he's number two right now, ranked is Jaime Munguia with the WBC.
05:15So I'm here for that.
05:17We'll see if the Munguia team, if that's the direction they want to go.
05:20But they've also mentioned, you know, Caleb Plant, perhaps, you know, a Berlanga Mexican-Puerto Rican fight there could be made.
05:27I mean, the possibilities are endless, especially if he continues to look the way he does.
05:30And a familiar face behind him there in the corner, Rafael Espinosa, who was victorious just last weekend against Roe Bacy Ramirez and is the featherweight champion of the world.
05:44They've built up quite a nice friendship, and he's there in his corner tonight, supporting him against Bruno Suros.
05:50The always classy Jimmy Lennon Jr. is in the ring now for the official introductions.
06:00How about the number of people in the ring, Chris, right now?
06:10This is before the fight.
06:11Yeah, the ring is bending.
06:12Yes.
06:13Ladies and gentlemen, Damas y caballeros, bienvenidos a la pelea principal de la noche.

07:58From Marseille, France, demos la bienvenida al invicto.
08:11Here is the undefeated Bruno, Brunello Surat.
08:19And his opponent across the ring, fighting out of the red corner, wearing gold trunks with right and blue trim, he weighed in the same as his opponent, 169.1 pounds.
08:37His outstanding record stands at 44 wins, no losses, with 35 wins coming by way of knockout.
08:50Ladies and gentlemen, introducing the hard-hitting and popular world-ranked super middleweight contender,
09:04and the former WBO junior middleweight champion of the world,
09:10aquí está el ex-campeón mundial peso junior medio, demos la bienvenida al sensacional y orgulloso guerrero de Tijuana,
09:22Baja California, Mexico, Jaime Munguilla.
09:34Y aquí está el referee, once again a referee, now to give instructions, Juan José Ramírez.
09:44Yes.
09:45Yes.
09:45Yes.
09:46Yes.
10:00Okay.
10:01Don't pause.
10:03I'm fine.
10:04Any questions?
10:05Okay.
10:05.
10:09All right, here we go, our main event.
10:18From the Estadio Caliente in Baja California, Tijuana.
10:24I'm Christina Poncher, joined alongside Chris Algieri.
10:28The fourth fight of the year for Jaime Munguia,
10:31who is ranked in the top ten in all four major sanctioning bodies.
10:35And looking to have a big 20-25.
10:39Looking to cap off the year with a win against Bruno Suras tonight,
10:42who is undefeated 25-0 with four knockouts,
10:45making his debut outside of his native France.
10:48Munguia in the yellow trunks with the white trim,
10:51Suras in the black trunks with the yellow trim.
10:54Both fighters out of the orthodox stance.
11:00Munguia looking significantly, though, bigger in the ring tonight, Chris.
11:03Yeah, bigger upper body, bigger shoulders.
11:08Looks more filled in at 168 than his French opponent.
11:19I do expect fireworks in this fight, though.
11:21Because Suras, he's a very aggressive guy.
11:23He throws in combination as well.
11:25Throws that right hand, very loopy, but he throws it often.
11:28And it's pretty accurate.
11:30Doesn't carry the same power that you see in the left hand of Munguia,
11:34but still an aggressive, tenacious guy.
11:38Eric Morales back in the corner of Jaime Munguia for the second consecutive fight
11:43since the loss to Saúl Canelo Alvarez, in which he was trained by Freddie Roach.
11:49He says he's got back to doing the altitude training that he was doing before in Big Bear,
11:56as well as training in Piawana.
11:58And he said he's just the strategist that is Eric Morales,
12:01the way that they both break down fights and put together a game plan,
12:04the way he talks to him in the corner.
12:07He said they just mesh, they just gel so very well.
12:09And he was looking forward to getting back to his winning ways with him back in his corner.
12:14With no disrespect at all to Freddie Roach.
12:15He said they worked on some really great technical things,
12:18but he's happy to have been reunited with Eric Morales.
12:22Yes, it was very interesting to listen to Jaime in the fighter meetings,
12:25ending up to the Brazilian fight, where he spoke at length about Freddie Roach
12:28and their relationship, as well as Eric Morales and his style of training.
12:32A lot of strategy, a lot of fitness, and just being able to speak to him as a Mexican,
12:38as a former Mexican warrior and champion, meant a lot to Jaime Muglia.
12:44Suras with the right hand down to the body.
12:48It's a feeling out round, under a minute left to go here in round one for both fighters.
12:52A lot of action here in our opening
12:57round, as again, Suras circling around the outside.
13:00And I think Muglia, especially when he's working with Eric Morales, you see him come out,
13:10starting slower, analyzing, collecting data, trying to find his range before he really opens up.
13:20He's gonna pop in that jab out there.
13:24There's that big looping shot, the overhand right from Suras.
13:27That's his punch, it's the overhand right.
13:31He goes back to the stick, and there's Muglia with his jab.
13:34And they exchanged dabs there. Jaime's was heavier.
13:39There's Jaime cutting off the ring there, finally going down the body with that left-handed.
13:44Suras looks to Ansel with the count.
13:47There you see the size and the physicality.
13:48Jaime Muglia, who's able to bully Suras in his own corner, just before the end of the bell.
14:02Also, Fernando Fernandez in the corner of Jaime Muglia and Jaime Muglia Sr.
14:22in the corner of Suras, his father, and also his chief second, Murad Hadou.
14:35Forgive my French pronunciations, I'm doing my best.
14:39Yeah, don't ask me, that's not my language either.
14:48As we take a look back at a few of the highlights, there wasn't a lot there in round one.
14:54There was a couple of overhand rights from Suras and then
14:59single body shop attempt at the end of the first round.
15:03And we are actually taking the feed, there we go.
15:06Thank you for, we had a brief hold up on the feed there coming from Tijuana as we start round two.
15:11I'm sorry, go ahead, Chris.
15:12Yeah, there was a nice body shot attempt at the end of round one.
15:16Suras came out this round, he landed a good jab into a right hand right down the middle and split the guard.
15:21And Suras is showing some fast hands here in this first round and a half.
15:25Not being super busy, but showing that he is capable thus far.
15:31And how about Suras switching briefly to a southpaw stance, now back to orthodox.
15:38You see him kind of posturing as he, when he moves to the right.
15:42Ooh.
15:43As he looks to throw that overhand right on Mugia.
15:46Tricky shot that we live with a lead uppercut, that's what the guard landed
15:49well and then a looping right hand that landed mostly in the glove.
15:54Oh, and a big left hand from Mugia has Suras on the canvas here in round two.
16:01Huge left hand shot slipped on the inside.
16:03And for the first time as a professional, Suras has hit the canvas.
16:12A ton of time here left to work for Mungia.
16:15Mungia taking his time, closing the distance, using that head movement, that tick-tock side to side,
16:20trying to set that left hook up again.
16:22Oh, down to the body with two left hands for Mungia.
16:28Suras still looks out of sorts here.
16:31Legs aren't quite underneath him.
16:34Right back down to the body.
16:36He is firing back though off the ropes.
16:39Mungia, you gotta understand, he's looking for that liver.
16:41He wants to set that shot up, that's his favorite punch.
16:44It was the left hook to the head that put Suras down.
16:49But one of Mungia's best punches is that left hook to the liver.
16:56Under a minute left here in round two.
16:59Suras down from a left hand, fighting his way back now.
17:03Seems to have at least got his legs up under him now, a minute left to go.
17:06Some good recovery, especially for a fighter who hasn't seen the canvas.
17:09He's been knocked down as a professional in his 27 professional fights.
17:14Certainly seems to be moving around much better, was letting those hands fly.
17:19Unleashing those quick hands that he has.
17:2330 seconds here.
17:24Nice right hand connects for Mungia.
17:26Backed against the ropes as Surasi goes back down to the body with the left hand.
17:30That was a nice right hand, right down the middle, right on the point of the chin.
17:33Split the guard.
17:34I mean, that is a dangerous spot to be, connects with the left hand up top once again.
17:42Just gets him to bite off a fake.
17:44Yeah, yeah, that was a hard fake.
17:50So a knockdown scored for Jaime Mungia in round two.
17:53So beautiful timed left hand from Jaime Mungia.
18:10Drops Bruno Suras in the second round.
18:15For the first time in his professional career.
18:18Yeah, you can see him slip inside.
18:20Big left hook.
18:21Bang!
18:22Right on the point of the chin there.
18:25Massive shot.
18:28Goes for the follow-up.
18:29Looking for that body shot.
18:29That was a nice liver shot there.
18:31Suras took that quite well.
18:33Boom.
18:33And there was a nice straight right hand right down the middle,
18:35right on the point of the chin.
18:37Bang!
18:39Not going to land a better shot than that.
18:41There was a good look at it.
18:42Suras went down very hard.
18:44Got up hurt, but recovered well during the round.
18:47Was letting those hands go.
18:48Fighting off the ropes.
18:49Keeping himself in the fight.
18:51Seemed to have righted the ship.
19:01Round three in this scheduled 10-rounder.
19:03Christina Poncher and Chris Algieri here with you.
19:05So a 10-8 round scored there for Mungia in round two.
19:09After a slow start in round one really for both guys.
19:11Things heated up quickly and then a slip there in the red corner.
19:15Ref right on top of that is.
19:20Obviously you get that condensation from fights before and water being poured in that corner.
19:25Dangerous spot to be there for Suras as Jaime Mungia continuing to stalk here in round three.
19:32Goes right back down to the body with a series of punches.
19:34Finishes up top with the left hand.
19:36Yeah, Suras does not want to be putting himself in the ropes the way that he did there.
19:39He's just gonna allow Jaime Mungia to let those hands go in combination.
19:43And he's going to find a home for those shots.
19:49Side to side upper body movement from Mungia.
19:52Now Suras is going punch for punch at this point which is not a good idea.
20:11He's not as big of a puncher as Jaime Mungia is.
20:15He should get on that jab, use those quick hands, look to score.
20:17Mungia is not known for his defensive prowess. A jab can get to him.
20:24Mungia looking to shoot the jab down low to the gut there.
20:28Cutting off the ring quite well.
20:30Really getting Suras right in a position to land shots like that.
20:33Well, Suras is allowing him to walk him down to the ropes.
20:37And more and more you're seeing Mungia go down to that left hook to the liver.
20:42Tenderizing the body of the Frenchman.
20:47Ooh, right hand.
20:49Partially blocked but still knocks Sadas off balance.
20:52Literally lifted up his front foot.
20:55Up against the ropes once again Mungia looking to shoot the left hand.
20:58Brings it upstairs first as Suras, much to his advantage, up off the ropes.
21:06And Mungia's done a good job actually making Sadas miss because Sadas is looking for one big punch at a time.
21:12He's not throwing the punches in combination like I've watched in his past fights.
21:15He's throwing singles looking for home run shots and Mungia seeing them a mile away.
21:2140 seconds left here in round three.
21:26Mungia stalking, stalking, following.
21:29Could be cutting off the ring better but still putting a lot of pressure on Suras.
21:35Suras looking for any sort of opening to try to land a shot.
21:38Yeah, but he's getting stuck in the mud.
21:41He's not moving those feet anymore.
21:42He's waiting on the one big shot and it's allowing Jaime to come in with combinations.
21:47Ooh, look a little counter though with the left hand there from Suras.
21:50Listen, he's got fast hands and he's willing to fire them.
21:53Good shot there, right hand, left hook, combination.
21:56Suras with his hand kind of raised walking back to the corner, perhaps a little boost of confidence
22:14because he did find a little bit of success, if you want to call it that, in the last round.
22:19I certainly would.
22:20I mean, that was a nice combination.
22:21He actually threw more than one punch at a time, landed a right hand and a left hook.
22:25Definitely got the attention of Mungia.
22:27Enough to give him the round?
22:29No.
22:30No, spent way too much time on the ropes.
22:36This body position here with Suras leaning against the ropes and just covered up, not a good look.
22:42And some of those punches are getting through but also you're catching flak,
22:45those punches that are going through your elbow, going through the glove.
22:49You still feel those shots even though they're landing on the arm or the glove.
23:13As we start round four, what adjustments if you're in the Suras corner, Chris,
23:17are you telling your fighter to make here?
23:19Use the jab, be more consistent with that.
23:21Pop that jab, pop that jab at this position right here.
23:23Don't just back up and put yourself on the ropes.
23:25Also, throw in combination.
23:26Stop loading up on single shots.
23:28You're not the power puncher here.
23:32Just a huge opportunity for Bruno Soras against, without a doubt, the best opposition that he's
23:38ever faced.
23:39And you know, he does have a 25-0 record, but not necessarily against guys that have had winning
23:43records as he tries to land a chopping right hand there on Munguia.
23:48Seems like both guys have a lot of trouble with the moisture on the mat.
23:51Well, and they're fighting outside, let's not forget, right?
23:53True.
23:53I mean, it's probably 50 degrees out there.
23:54There's gotta be some precipitation and
23:56a left hand lands there for Munguia around the guard of Suras.
24:00Being told it's 53 degrees out there right now.
24:10And I don't think we've given enough credit to Soras, you know, coming across the world,
24:15putting his undefeated record on the line against his toughest opponent to date by far,
24:19coming to his backyard.
24:22Absolutely.
24:23And he said he got the call three months ago, so he's had plenty of time, but he said,
24:27look, I have an opportunity to change my life, to change my family life, and I will do whatever
24:32it takes.
24:35I'd say he definitely trained for body shots, because Munguia has ripped some good left hooks
24:40to the body, and Suras has taken them well, hasn't really shown...
24:45Particularly with that left hand.
24:47Yeah, I mean, that's Munguia's weapon.
24:49That's one of his best punches, one of his favorite for sure.
24:52And he's landed some good ones, even on the hip and around the elbow.
24:55Those punches usually hurt guys, and Suras has taken them well.
25:02Up top for Suras.
25:04Nothing that's really caught the attention of Munguia through the first,
25:09you know, nearly a minute left in the fourth round here.
25:12I know Suras has not been all that active offensively, but I will say he has made adjustments.
25:16I've seen him in past fights be a little wilder, a little more reckless with his shots.
25:20He has cleaned up his offense quite a bit, which, you know, you would have to to still be here at this point.
25:26Down to the body again with the left hand for Munguia.
25:29Munguia now is getting more creative with the offense, mixing those punches up quite well.
25:35Oh, nice uppercut lands there for Suras.
25:38Tricky shot up the middle, splits the guard.
25:41I mean, look, I couldn't tell if he was off balance, if that actually wobbled him, but he's coming right back.
25:46Yeah, he came back with the left hand to the body and a right hand around the guard of Suras,
25:50but that was a significant shot for the Frenchman.
25:5415 seconds here in round four.
25:56Down to the body uppercut of his own for Munguia.
25:59So now she's showing some good durability.
26:03Oh, overhand right for Suras.
26:09Solid into this round.
26:21I would say that Suras has gotten some respect from Jaime Munguia.
26:25I was going to say the same, yes.
26:25In that last round, I mean, he landed some big shots.
26:27It was a nice uppercut to split the guard, some chopping right hands.
26:31Definitely got the attention of Munguia.
26:33Not sure how much it did he damage, but I guess we'll see in the replay.
26:47Again, Suras fighting off the ropes, coming back with some combinations,
26:51but getting stuck on the ropes too much and allowing Jaime to land
26:55some vicious shots.
26:58There was that tricky little uppercut.
27:00Eh, it was a little bit of a glancing shot.
27:02That wasn't as clean as it looked initially.
27:08But shots like that are going to continue to boost the confidence of Bruno Suras.
27:12If it did nothing else, if it did nothing else, it gave Suras the reason to raise his hands
27:17at the end of the round as he walked back to his corner.
27:19As we begin round five.
27:26Jaime Munguia has done some significant work to the body through the first
27:30four rounds, particularly with the left hand.
27:34He's dropped Suras in round two with that left hand, a grazing shot to the head.
27:41His counter there from Suras on the outside, a little pull counter with the right hand,
27:44catches Jaime Munguia just below the ear.
27:51Really important for Jaime Munguia.
27:53He told us to have one more fight before the end of the year.
27:55This, in fact, his fourth fight of 2024, wanted to bring it back to his backyard in
28:00Tijuana, a place that he hasn't fought since February of 2022.
28:04Down to the body with the left hand.
28:06He goes wanting to put on a good show for his fans.
28:08Loading up along the ropes there, but
28:10Suras showing that he's a durable, physically strong guy.
28:13He puts that high guard up, doesn't leave a lot of openings,
28:17is willing to take those shots on the arms and the elbows.
28:23Side to side upper body movement,
28:25moving his way in.
28:26Suras smartly backs off against the ropes after his back touch is there and
28:30moving forward with the jab and then swinging wildly, missing with the hook is Munguia.
28:34Yes, Suras is keeping it.
28:37Chopping right hand for Suras.
28:38He's keeping it very simple, keeping the guard up, looking to fight a counter fight.
28:44You know, waiting for Munguia to overthrow these shots, be off balance and then counter.
28:47He's found a home for that lead uppercut.
29:02Some good work once again with the back against the ropes.
29:05I mean, anytime Suras gets stopped and tagged there, it's down to the body and then back up top,
29:11no question for Munguia.
29:12Yeah, and everything's hard, Munguia needs to change up, he needs to change up the speed.
29:16He's throwing everything in the same tempo and it's allowing Suras to get the timing and rhythm.
29:23You gotta be a little more deceptive when you got a guy who's just gonna shell up the way that
29:27Suras is on the ropes.
29:33And for Munguia, how can he kind of get him to open up just a little bit more so
29:38he can land these shots a little bit cleaner?
29:40More of that we just saw, that jab.
29:41Use that jab, split the guard, keep touching him, take a little bit of power off the punches
29:46and let the hands go a little more, throw in combination.
29:49Double jab, right hand, left combination there for Suras.
29:53And I just feel like you can see Suras thinking in there, right?
30:05Like he's really trying to figure out how he can get inside and land something on Munguia,
30:10who is continuing to faint, move side to side with the upper body movement,
30:13use the jab, and of course invest in the body.
30:16I think first and foremost he's thinking about how not to take any more punishment.
30:20That's kind of the goal, obviously, right?
30:22Not to take punishment and also look for opening.
30:24Because again, he's fighting a complete counter fight, counter tactics.
30:28So he's fighting mostly off the ropes here.
30:30You see Munguia going to work, but again, everything is hard.
30:34Just hard shots with both hands, not being deceptive, not setting punches up anymore.
30:38And then back comes Suras when he has these opportunities that Munguia,
30:41overthrowing at times, gets off balance and leaves himself open for combinations like that.
30:46Not all of those punches weren't clean, but they're scoring blows for Suras.
30:52There you see those opportunities where he's trying to catch Munguia when he's off balance,
30:59overthrowing.
31:00And there was that solid four-punch combination for Suras, too.
31:03A highlight moment for him in that last round.
31:07It's kind of been too far in between, really, in my opinion, to win him most of these rounds.
31:11And also when you see them in slow motion, you see that they're all glancing,
31:14that Jaime's moving with them.
31:16Suras does have fast hands, so I think it looks like it's more effective initially,
31:21but in hindsight, they're not really the cleanest shots.
31:26But I also think what you've been able to see with Jaime Munguia, especially
31:29with how this fight has gone, and really all the fights he's had the two,
31:33now second after Canelo, is that he's kind of tightened some stuff up a little bit in terms
31:39of how he's throwing his shots as well. You know what I mean? He's placing him to the body very
31:43well. He's using his jab. I mean, I know he's the kind of fighter that will take a couple to give
31:47his out. You mentioned it earlier.
31:49Yeah, we're seeing less of that, for sure. But also, I agree with you.
31:52And the level of opposition.
31:53In terms of the way that he throws his punches now, he's not quite as reckless as he used to be
31:57throwing long combinations and throwing double, triple, quadruple left hands. You can't do that as
32:02you go up in class, as well as you're going up in weight. These guys hit much harder.
32:07So, you know, at 154, he's able to throw those long combinations. Here at 168,
32:12he's a lot more judicious and careful with the combination so he doesn't get countered by the
32:16bigger punchers. Yeah, of course, the former WBO junior middleweight champion, five successful
32:21defenses there. Good chopping right hand there from Saras. Now 3-1 at 168 pounds. Of course,
32:28that lone loss to Canelo Alvarez in May of this year.
32:30Two minutes left to go here in round six.
32:37Down to the body. Of course, combination starting again with that left hook.
32:39If you remember how Jaime Munguia was able to drop and hurt Saras early, was punching with him.
32:46At this point, they're taking turns. It's your turn, my turn. Saras is waiting, waiting, waiting.
32:51He allows Munguia to work with his hands up, and then as soon as he's done, he throws.
33:03Munguia using a lot of those feints too with the foot.
33:09Jab overhand right misses. Back to the jab. He's taking a little bit of power off those shots. I think that's smart.
33:14That's kind of what you said that he needed to do in order to be able to get more effective at landing
33:22some of those inside shots. Change the speed.
33:28How about doubling up on that jab?
33:30Just jabbing in general. High, low. Sticking that jab.
33:33Blinding your man so he can't see the right hand coming. Punching through the guard.
33:38Because they're unaware that that right hand's next.
33:40Jab is just such a versatile weapon and tool.
33:50No, we were watching and calling that Bazinian fight.
33:52We were like, okay, well, this is a good fight.
33:53They kind of went back and forth, and then you thought Bazinian was in it until he wasn't.
33:56Until he wasn't, exactly. Right?
33:57It's like Munguia took a round off and then came back and finished it.
34:01My goodness!
34:03Munguia goes down in round six!
34:05Cinco, seis, trece, ocho, nueve.
34:11He's done, oh my God!
34:12My goodness!
34:13He does not beat the count!
34:15It is over!
34:17One punch knockout.
34:18Bruno Suros has knocked out Jaime Munguia!
34:24Wow!
34:25My goodness!
34:28What an upset in Tijuana!
34:36What jubilation from Team Turas who has come over from France in his first fight
34:43outside of France and has got the knockout victory against Jaime Munguia!
34:48Can you believe this?
34:49No!
34:49This guy, listen, I said we gotta tip our hat to this young man who's coming out here,
34:55coming across the world to fight the man in his hometown and scores a one punch,
35:03come from behind, knockout of the year, upset of the year.
35:08One punch, full ten count, unbelievable.
35:12Bruno Suros said we have a chance to change our life for this fight and I will do whatever it takes.
35:19Tonight it took one right hand that dropped Jaime Munguia.
35:25A man with four knockouts and 25 wins gets his fifth KO in 26 wins against Jaime Munguia,
35:33a single one punch KO, unbelievable.
35:35The cleanest punch he landed all fight.
35:37Yep.
35:38One punch and he doesn't beat the count.
35:42And I was gonna say, Jaime just looks uninspired.
35:48He looked uninspired.
35:50And now look at the way he's acting in the corner.
35:52He's smiling.
35:53With great risk comes great reward and this opportunity for both guys.
35:59I wanna get in another fight before the end of the year.
36:01I wanna have a big 2025.
36:03I wanna give a fight back to my fans and to Ioana and for Bruno Suros the same.
36:07I want an opportunity to change my life, to change my family's life.
36:12Well, he did.
36:13He changed his family's life.
36:15France has a new top super middleweight.
36:21Wow, unbelievable.
36:22I mean, perfect shot, wide open.
36:28And listen, he had a game plan.
36:29He was gonna wait his turn, wait for Jaime Munguia to overextend himself and counter when he had the opportunities.
36:35And you see the expression on the face of Julio Cesar Chavez Sr., who was on the air there,
36:41ringside on the apron, just could not believe the shot.
36:44I mean, just flattened him, Chris, flattened him with the right hand to the chin.
36:47Head bounced off the mat, you know, got up at the count of nine and a half,
36:51but was too hurt to continue.
36:53Ref made a good call, stopped the fight.
36:57Unbelievable, unbelievable.
37:01Wow, wow, what an upset.
37:04Congratulations to Bruno Suras.
37:06That's why you fight the fight.
37:07Yeah, that's why you take the risks.
37:09I mean, coming into this fight, what really did he have to lose, Chris?
37:12Yeah, well, exactly.
37:13I mean, listen, he was coming across the world, like I said, and, you know, I'm sure he got a nice
37:18little payday, but he was going in against a monster in his hometown and did exactly what
37:24he needed to do in order to get the victory.
37:26And, you know, he had a game plan.
37:27He executed it.
37:28He stayed calm under pressure.
37:29He got hurt badly in round two, got dropped, never been down before.
37:34Got up right at the ship, got right back to work, right back to the game plan,
37:38and found a way for that right hand and ended the night.
37:41I mean, just absolutely snapped the head to the side, flat on his back, Jaime Munguia.
37:47You know, I had mentioned how Jaime Munguia was being a little more judicious with his punch.
37:55He's not just going to the win, because he's fighting guys that are bigger.
37:58He's fighting in these higher weight classes.
38:00Because of this reason, I don't care if you're a 168-pounder, you can punch.
38:03I mean, it's not like the 154-pounders he used to fight.
38:06These are 168-pounders.
38:08All these guys can punch.
38:09The only other guy to put down Jaime Munguia was Canelo Alvarez.
38:13Now Canelo puts him down, and now Brunello puts him down, and...
38:19Puts him out.
38:19Puts him out.
38:21Wow, the first knockout loss in the career of Jaime Munguia,
38:25and the biggest win in the career of Bruno Brunello Suras.
38:33Where is Suras hiding this power?
38:36Four KOs in his 25 wins, comes out with a one-punch KO
38:39over normally very durable Jaime Munguia.
38:49See?
38:50Puts it behind the jab, overhand right, hits nothing but chin.
38:56See the face of Julio Cesar Chavez, head and hands.
39:00I mean, he looked away.
39:01It was just that brutal of a shot.
39:07Perfect shot, chopping overhand, clips the chin.
39:11You know, he put a little jab out there.
39:18Got the attention of Jaime Munguia and bang, right on the chin.
39:22Couldn't ask for a more perfect punch in terms of where it landed.
39:26And if you are in Morsai or anywhere in France right now, and it's the morning on Sunday,
39:34and you're waking up and watching this or seeing Bruno Brunello Suras has knocked out Jaime Munguia,
39:41you might be thinking that you're still in a dream right now.
39:45Is it too early to drink wine over there?
39:47I mean, he just caught him perfectly timed.
39:50I mean, I know we've shown it about 17 times while we're waiting for the decision on the feed from Mexico.
39:55What you saw there, you saw Jaime Munguia cross-block that jab.
39:58He reached out too much.
39:59Look, cross-block.
40:01He put that hand across the way, had no defense for that shot.
40:05Over the top.
40:06I mean, just perfectly timed over that left hand.
40:09That was...
40:10No defense there, hands not at home.
40:12Remember, I was talking about Picasso and how he always gets his hands back to home.
40:15Jaime Munguia is the opposite.
40:17Those hands were...
40:18Look where those hands are.
40:18Reaches out with both...
40:21He literally cross-blocked with his right, reached down with his left hand,
40:24and, I mean, lets his shin completely exposed.
40:29That was not part of the plan for Team Munguia.
40:33Absolutely not.
40:34And it spoiled some big plans for Team Munguia in 2025.
40:38I mean, you're talking...
40:39We talked about it in the lead-up.
40:40The mandatory position to fight for a world title with the WBC,
40:43possibly against Christian and Billy.
40:45I mean, now...
40:47I don't even know what to say as far as what could be the future for Brunello Suras.
40:55I do.
40:56Paydays.
40:56Yeah, that.
40:57He earned himself a whole heck of a lot more money off a performance like that.
41:02And my hat's off to him for taking the risk, fighting outside of his home country for the first time.
41:08In your opponent's backyard, he was a heavy favorite, and it's a heavy right hand.
41:15In the fifth round.
41:16I don't think anyone predicted this, but at the end of the day, it's poor fundamentals.
41:20Poor fundamentals is when you get knockouts like that.
41:24Wow, we're gonna be seeing this clip over and over and over again.
41:33Upset of the year for sure, potential knockout of the year.
41:37I mean, and from, again, let me remind you, a fighter who had only four knockouts in 25 fights.
41:43And I don't know, I apologize, I'm not really sure what the holdup is in Tijuana.
41:47I mean, it's as official as official could get with how that fight ended.
41:51Yeah, we're not waiting, we're not waiting for her.
41:52I don't know why we're dragging this out any longer, to be honest with you all.
41:55But that's really what we're waiting for here.
41:58I'm not even sure we're gonna get an interview with Suras or Munguia at this point.
42:05But what is done is done.
42:10Wow.
42:17And I guess they're just deciding to continue to show more shots and different angles of the knockout.
42:25If you look at Suras' face there, his eyes, he's locked in.
42:29Again, I kept saying he had a game plan.
42:32He's waiting for Munguia to overextend himself.
42:36Gap overhand.
42:37And I said from the beginning, what was the punch to look out for from Suras?
42:39It was the overhand right.
42:40That's his favorite punch.
42:41That's the punch he throws.
42:42He throws it like he hits hard.
42:44I didn't think he did with four KOs and 25.
42:46Apparently he does.
42:47And again, I guess they're waiting for the local announcers there in Tijuana to wrap up
43:01their segment before they make this one official in the ring with Jimmy Lunen Jr.,
43:05who you can see from this overhead shot there has more than been in position.
43:08Of course, Munguia having to sit there and stand out there as well.
43:13You know these fans that have traveled to see him in Tijuana.
43:16And for Bruno Suras, I mean, I would love to hear what he had to say and what he has to say.
43:23And even for Jaime Munguia as well and what the plans are for both of these guys in the future.
43:28Now we don't know.
43:28A lot of things up in the air right now as Bruno Suras plays spoiler tonight with a huge upset and
43:34is now 26-0 as a professional with five knockouts.
43:38Jaime Munguia will fall to 44-2 with 35 knockouts.
43:46I mean, how big of a step back is this for Jaime Munguia?
43:50Oh, this could potentially occur.
43:53Yeah, I mean, with a deep division like this, you know, he's going to need to take some time.
44:00I mean, he wanted to get that fourth fight in, but now, you know, he's got to recover from this.
44:04And then we've got to recover from it physically, you know, but what about psychologically?
44:07You know, we mentioned that in the last fight coming off the loss
44:09of Canelo getting back in there, getting back into feeling like you're that guy.
44:12Well, how are you going to feel like you're that guy into this?
44:14You know something else?
44:17Okay, now they're ready.
44:18Here is Jimmy Lennon, Jr.
44:1930 seconds in round number six.
44:28Here's the winner by way of knockout and still undefeated, Bruno Brunello Suras.
44:41And there it is, round six, knockout, Bruno Brunello Suras, absolutely upset of the year.
44:50Jaime Munguia, you can tell on his face, visibly disappointed.
44:55I mean, the juxtaposition between the jubilation of the unexpected underdog and
45:02the hometown hero in Jaime Munguia, who tonight suffers the second loss of his professional career.
45:11You mentioned it, Chris, absolutely devastating tonight for Jaime Munguia.
45:15Yeah.
45:16I mean, the worst way to lose.
45:17Devastating for Jaime Munguia, so unexpected.
45:20But listen, let's talk about Bruno Suras, man.
45:23Listen, he didn't look all that surprised afterwards.
45:26He looked at me like, yeah, he's crazy like a fox.
45:27Like, he had a game plan and he was starting to execute it.
45:30He was a lot of your turn, my turn.
45:32And you could just tell Munguia was forcing everything.
45:35He was trying to land those big shots.
45:37Suras just kept covered up and was looking for the openings.
45:41And more and more, he was taking that risk of throwing the shot after Munguia fell off balance.
45:45And then he just found that perfect shot and hit.
45:47I mean, again, back to the fundamentals.
45:50You saw where the hand position was for Munguia.
45:53Got hit with a perfect shot right on the chin.
45:56Listen, I don't care who you are, man.
45:57You get hit in that right spot, it turns you off.
45:59Hey, it's why you fight the fight, right?
46:01Again, hats off and kudos to Bruno Suras and his entire team for taking the opportunity
46:05and likely taking a win in an upset of the year fight.
46:09Before we let you go, just a reminder, next time we'll see you,
46:12Naoya Inoue, taking on Sam Goodman in a fight that is now taking place after postponement,
46:17January 24th.
46:18We'll see you then.
46:19For Chris Algieri, I'm Christina Poncher.
46:22I appreciate it.
