03:59Veteran referee from California, Raul Caiz Jr., his 764th bout officiated.
04:16Let's go, fighter team, second, please.
04:18Will be the third man inside the ropes for this world championship rematch.
04:22All right, gentlemen, to receive the instructions, the rest of you know what I expect.
04:27Good, clean fight.
04:31So here we go.
04:37Mark Kriegel will be scoring.
04:39Bernardo, of course, our ace ringside reporter.
04:42Joe Tessitore and Tim Bradley with you on the call ringside.
04:45Timmy, I want to get into the conversation of something that Navarrete said to Mark,
04:48and that is the left hand.
04:50He was coming off left hand surgery when he had the Baranchek fight.
04:53He said, my hand is fixed.
04:55I feel healthy.
04:56I feel rehabbed.
04:57Now, it wasn't the case when I fought at 135 pounds.
05:00I was fighting one-handed.
05:01I didn't even get the 600 punches, usually throwing upwards of 1,000.
05:05And I don't want to put too much as we're off to a fast start right away with Valdez.
05:08But when they had this first fight, Navarrete landed 216 punches.
05:13That's the most by a Valdez opponent.
05:15He was throwing 87 punches per round.
05:19So I do think that we can look at the punch stats tonight as a left hook lands early on
05:23and take away knowing where Navarrete actually is with his health.
05:28I agree with you 1,000%.
05:29And he's throwing that lead hand in different ways.
05:35Jabs, hooks, and already committing downstairs.
05:40Navarrete is an awkward.
05:41Awkward has an awkward style.
05:43And he also has six inches of reach on Oscar Valdez.
05:47But right now, what I like about Oscar is he's committing downstairs early.
05:52He's coming out, and he's being aggressive with his jab.
05:55He's beating Navarrete to the punch as of right now.
06:06You know, immediately when you look at Navarrete, it's often the case where you look at his body,
06:11you look at his midsection, you say, what are we dealing with here?
06:14This is a 130-pound fight.
06:18And he came in at 145.6 earlier today, Timmy.
06:23Valdez declined the opportunity to step on the scale today.
06:28There's that uppercut right there.
06:30Left uppercut.
06:31Navarrete saw that lean from Oscar Valdez.
06:33Shooting that uppercut right up the middle.
06:35That's his bread and butter.
06:36He loves that shot.
06:37Comes out of nowhere.
06:39Tess.
06:39Stop!
06:40Beat!
06:41That's the bucket of box.
06:44But a moment ago, I saw Oscar Valdez actually start to try to move to his right.
06:48He had a little success moving to his right with his right hand.
06:52He was able to place a body shot.
06:54There it is again.
06:55Right hand to the body.
06:56Able to land for Oscar Valdez.
06:58That's something different, Tess, because in the first fight, Oscar Valdez never moved to his right.
07:02He kept continuously moving towards his left.
07:05So nice adjustment thus far this round for Oscar Valdez, moving in both directions.
07:12There he is again, moving to his right.
07:14Yeah, very conscious of it, too.
07:16You can tell it's a point of emphasis.
07:22Nice tie-up tactic as well.
07:24That was something that he said he's been working on.
07:25Tying up Navarrete, not just giving distance and disengaging with his hands down and getting caught with shots.
07:33You know what that gets filled with, that distance.
07:35That uppercut again.
07:36Navarrete.
07:37Some awkward, the angles, and a knockdown is scored.
07:41The awkward offensive attack of Navarrete scores a knockdown.
07:49Final 10 seconds of round number one.
07:5110 seconds.
07:5510 seconds.
07:5810 seconds.
08:0010 seconds.
08:0110 seconds.
08:0210 seconds.
08:0310 seconds.
08:0410 seconds.
08:1210 seconds.
08:14Tiempo.
08:15Andy, we got a small cut.
08:17Middle of the eyebrows.
08:18Punch.
08:20Timothy.
08:20Timothée, Tim, small cut, punch.
08:48You got a cut, right?
08:49Yeah, I got it, punch.
08:53Let's go, second down, mouthpiece in.
08:55Protector, mouthpiece, stand back.
08:59Ante patras.
09:04A sweeping right hand to the temple by Emmanuel Navarrete in the closing seconds of round one scored the knockdown.
09:12And what does that usually do, Tess?
09:14It takes their legs, and that's exactly what happened when I saw this.
09:17It's right on the temple right there. You see his legs give out.
09:23Oscar didn't seem to be really hurt by that shot.
09:26It just, you know, he got caught on that temple, and your legs just seem to go.
09:31Good exchange on the inside.
09:33Navarrete landed a right hand, and now trading, and Valdez ties up.
09:40This is getting rugged early on, Timmy.
09:43And one of the things that Oscar told us is that he's going to have to control his emotions in there, and he's starting to get drug into a firefight right now with the heavy puncher, the heavier puncher in Navarrete.
09:54Oh, look at that thing.
09:55Look at the odds that they have shifted.
09:57Overwhelmingly in favor of Navarrete after the early goings that knockdown scored in round number one.
10:03Ooh.
10:04Nice quick changeup in levels with his offense coming off that jab.
10:11Nice right hand from Oscar Valdez.
10:12It was great.
10:13It was straight, and it was great.
10:14Yes, it was.
10:15Able to counter and go right down the middle.
10:21But again, Navarrete's going to wait.
10:24He's going to wait for Oscar there again.
10:26That lean, that lean forward over that front knee.
10:29Just putting himself nice, nice counters over there.
10:33What a success with the right hands by Oscar Valdez.
10:37That's a nice adjustment.
10:39But that uppercut, Navarrete's looking for that uppercut.
10:42That's what he wants.
10:50Nice adjustment to eight.
10:51Not going to the left hook right away, but shoot those right hands straight.
10:58Two punch combination from Navarrete.
11:00He just takes that little tip to the left, and the left hand comes in hard again.
11:05Valdez came forward seemingly to tie up, but now a big attack from Navarrete
11:11as he backs him into that neutral corner.
11:17Flash ahead.
11:19They continue on.
11:20No cuts.
11:23The shots are heavy coming from Navarrete.
11:25Navarrete, you should hear the shots.
11:27They thudding shots.
11:28He has his left hand now as well.
11:30And he's working it overtime right now in combination form.
11:35Navarrete said he wants to stop Oscar Valdez.
11:38He says, I don't want it to go to decision.
11:40I want to stop him.
11:41I'm coming out fast.
11:42I'm coming out hard.
11:43And I'm going to give it everything I have.
11:46He has great confidence in his surgically repaired left hand.
11:51That has always been the weapon of choice.
11:55Good jab by Oscar.
11:59Oscar had his moments in round two.
12:01So, Navarrete showed the power again.
12:04So, Navarrete showed the power again.
12:07That's the middle.
12:08Good.
12:17All right.
12:18All right.
12:19All right.
12:20All right.
12:21All right.
12:22All right.
12:23All right.
12:24All right.
12:25Ok.
12:26Added.
12:49All right.
12:50Let's go, second job, mom, 3-7, second job.
12:52Let's go, second job.
13:14Joe and Tim calling the action here ringside
13:16of our World Championship rematch.
13:18Oscar Valdez, Emmanuel Navarrete.
13:20But a spirited effort by him in round number two, bouncing back
13:24after going down in the closing moments of round number one
13:27from a sweeping right hand to the temple.
13:29In that second round, Navarrete had a 20-16 connected vantage.
13:33He has landed 25 power punches to this point.
13:38Bernardo, what can you tell us of the corner of Oscar Valdez?
13:43Eddie Reynoso just told me,
13:45look, I need him to relax and work on his defense.
13:48He cannot repeat the same punches.
13:50When he tries to go to the well too many times,
13:52that's when Navarrete catches him.
13:54So, he needs the various punches because Navarrete is slow
13:57when you make him look slow.
13:58And that's what you touched on.
13:59What Bernardo just reported about not being predictable.
14:02In your lab, you broke that down and that was a big headline for you.
14:07Not being predictable, using his legs, changing his position,
14:11not standing directly in front of Navarrete.
14:13Navarrete has heavy hands.
14:14He's not one of those guys that you want to be just absorbing punches from.
14:18You want to make him miss completely.
14:21You see his balance isn't always there.
14:23And when he throws shots, you see his inertia takes him the way that he's going with his shot.
14:29So, those are opportunities for Oscar Valdez to make him pay when he's off balance.
14:34Tried to dig in with that right hand to the body.
14:40Works his way to the inside.
14:43As Navarrete was trying to crash down with the right hand.
14:52Good disengagement right there from Oscar.
14:55Taking care of defense as well.
14:56Getting out at the right time.
14:58Navarrete is starting to move his head now.
15:01Trying to become elusive.
15:03But that's what Oscar got to do.
15:09I mean, if he's going to win this, he got to win this in the boxing fashion.
15:12He can't.
15:13He's not going to win this battle in the fight.
15:15Got to stay disciplined.
15:17Stay behind his craft.
15:18Stop leaning forward like that because when he leans forward,
15:21he's bringing his head closer to the punches of Navarrete.
15:29It's a poor posture by Oscar Valdez.
15:32And Navarrete, I'm telling you, he's going to set him up sooner than later with that uppercut.
15:38Good tie up right there from Oscar.
15:40Was out in a bad position right there and he tied his man up.
15:43That's a great tactic he used against a pressure guy.
15:45It's a short right hand on that exchange by Valdez.
15:48Tried to come with the left hook.
15:50And look at the volume punching.
15:52Just the swarming from Navarrete.
15:54That, of course, was not a knock down there.
15:57They're going to clean off the gloves and finish up the final 15 seconds here of round number three.
16:01Navarrete, he looked like he's about 160 pounds.
16:03Doesn't he?
16:04Look at that.
16:05You see the tire around his waist.
16:07He's looking strong.
16:08He never looks the part, but he gets the results.
16:10He's looking strong.
16:12Heavy-handed, big body.
16:14He's looking strong.
16:15You see who is the top body.
16:16Yonko Jacimero.
16:23Bien?
16:26Respira.
16:27Respira.
16:28Cuando...
16:29Si, cuando...
16:30Cuando...
16:31Cuando...
16:32Cuando lo vas corretiendo.
16:34No estamos haciendo.
16:36Valdés a los ojos.
16:37Prenate tantito!
16:38Prenate tantito!
16:39Prenate tantito!
16:40El pasito atrás y recibelo!
16:41Don't forget the hook to the left because it's going forward to your arms.
16:49Good.
16:50He already felt it.
16:52When you go there, go back and get up.
16:55Because he wants it.
16:56No, I'm going to go with the other side because he's going to get involved.
16:59No, he's fine, he's fine.
17:01Exactly.
17:02No, he doesn't have to be confused.
17:04He's going around four.
17:05He's sitting close.
17:06He's sitting close.
17:07He's getting close.
17:08He's getting close.
17:10He's getting close.
17:18We always like to say in this area, Phoenix, you've got great fight fans.
17:21And this is a fight fans fight card with back-to-back world championship rematches.
17:26We had one of the oddest finishes to our first world title fight with Robesio Ramirez pulling a no-mas and a TKO victory for Rafael Espinoza.
17:34We're going to talk plenty about that in the state of boxing following our broadcast here on ESPN.
17:39You can join us on the ESPN app as we give you all the analysis and post-fight comments there.
17:45Right now is round number four of this world championship rematch.
17:49Emmanuel Navarrete against Oscar Valdez.
17:52He jumped out with a 10-8 opening round scoring the knockdown.
17:58Let's check in with Bernardo.
18:00I spoke with Pedro Navarrete Jr. and he told me, look, what we need to do is feint and don't chase.
18:06Emmanuel needs to be wary of that counter right hook when he throws his uppercut.
18:10But that uppercut is there for us to land.
18:16Oscar Valdez, he used a tactic that I haven't seen in a while.
18:19What's that?
18:20The clinch, release, fire.
18:23You get your man, you step inside, you clinch him, and you think he's going to give and release.
18:29And think the referees will come in and then you just release real quick and then you let your hands off.
18:35Veteran move.
18:36That's a veteran move right there.
18:37Wow.
18:38There's that sweeping left hand.
18:39It sends him off balance back into the red corner.
18:44There's that uppercut again.
18:47Oscar, he's looking for his own left hook.
18:49He's looking for that big home run as well.
18:55Head clash again.
18:56You know, I know Valdez spent a lot of time saying that was to his detriment looking for the big singular shot.
19:02But his desperation.
19:04Exactly.
19:05Navarrete brings you to that place.
19:07You know, in the corner, Bernardo was reporting that Eddie Reynoso is saying,
19:11you've got to stay relaxed.
19:12You've got to stay composed.
19:13But Navarrete fights in a way when he's at his best where it's tough to do that.
19:17Yes.
19:22Navarrete makes you fight.
19:26When he's landing big heavy shots like that, it's like, how else are you going to keep him off of you?
19:32You've got to fight him back in spots.
19:34But again, Oscar got to be, he just got to be picking spots wisely, Tess.
19:39You know, when they're outside like this, he got to sneak in.
19:41He got to sneak in behind good defense, head movement.
19:44Get his offense off and then he needs to smother and then get out.
19:48Make sure he gets far away from Navarrete and not sit there and, because somethings don't get in, Tess.
19:54Nearly another clash of heads.
20:03But you can just see the desire in the heart of Oscar about this, man.
20:07He is doing everything he possibly can right now.
20:10That's never been questioned in his career.
20:12That determination is always there.
20:15Undoubtedly it is.
20:21Man.
20:22Man.
20:23Help of Mike!
20:28Knockdown.
20:30Knockdown scored at the final second of round four.
20:31FAMILA, FAMILA, FAMILA, FAMILA, MANAS RIDA.
20:35COME ON.
20:37BRING THE BELL.
20:39COUNT THE KNOCKDOWN.
20:45BENOI, COUNT THE KNOCKDOWN.
20:51CHRIS, COUNT THE KNOCKDOWN.
20:57I WANT YOU TO COME UP.
21:11SO IF YOU JUST STAY DOWN THE STAIRS, AND I'M GOING TO BRING THEM TO YOU.
21:25FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO MAY HAVE BEEN TAKING A COMMERCIAL BREAK RIGHT AT THE BELL.
21:29THAT WAS RULED A KNOCKDOWN AT THE FINAL SECOND OF THE FOURTH ROUND.
21:34THIS WAS A KNOCKDOWN SCORED BY EMMANUEL NAVARETTE.
21:37LOOK AT THAT SHARP RIGHT HAND.
21:39AND THEN THE FOLLOW-UP ATTACK.
21:41AND NOW, BEFORE THIS NEXT ROUND BEGINS, THE RINGSIDE POSITION WANTS TO TAKE A LOOK AT OSCAR VALDEZ.
21:49HERE WE GO.
21:53THE MOST INTERESTING THING FOR ME ABOUT THAT SEQUENCE WAS IS THAT OSCAR VALDEZ WAS LOOKING TO TIE UP.
21:59BUT NAVARETTE WAS ROTATING AROUND HIM, THROWING THOSE SHOTS.
22:05NOT ALLOWING HIM TO TIE HIM UP.
22:09OH, BIG LEFT HOOK BY OSCAR.
22:12HE'S GONNA SEND IT HERE.
22:14I MEAN, HE'S SENDING IT, BUT NAVARETTE'S TAKING IT.
22:18HE'S TAKING IT ON THE CHIN.
22:20A FEW TIMES, TESS.
22:22HERE WE GO, MAX.
22:23BERNARDO, WHAT CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT THE HEALTH OF OSCAR VALDEZ?
22:26I JUST SPOKE WITH EDIG ANOSO, AND I SAID, IS SOMETHING UP WITH OSCAR'S RIGHT FOOT?
22:30AND HE SAID, YES, HE SOMEWHAT INJURED IT EARLIER IN THE FIGHT, SO HE'S DEALING WITH THAT.
22:34YEAH, THAT FIRST KNOCKDOWN, HE WAS IN A BAD POSITION.
22:37HIS FOOT WAS CAUGHT BEHIND HIM.
22:41WHEN HE LANDED, AND THAT MAY HAVE TWEAKED HIS ANKLE.
22:49SO THEY CONFIRMED THE RIGHT FOOT INJURY IN THE CORNER OF VALDEZ.
22:53HE HAS BEEN DOWN ALREADY TWO TIMES IN THIS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP REMATCH.
22:59HE WILL ALWAYS GIVE EVERYTHING HE CAN.
23:02THAT IS THE NATURE OF THIS PROUD MEXICAN WARRIOR.
23:06SHARP COMBINATION FROM NAVARETTE.
23:10HE IS HERE, NOT TIRED.
23:14MOX.
23:16ONE OF THE THINGS THAT OSCAR HAS GONE AWAY FROM IS GOING DOWN TO THAT BODY.
23:20WHEN I'M SEEING, I'M LOOKING AT THAT BODY OF NAVARETTE, I'M SAYING THAT'S UNFIT.
23:24I'M GOING TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THAT BECAUSE I WANT TO TAKE SOME OF THAT STEAM AWAY
23:28AND ZAP OFF THOSE PUNCHES FOR LATER IN THE FIGHT.
23:31I'M HERE, IT'S THE FIFTH RIGHT NOW.
23:33AND IF I INVEST EARLY ON, I'M HOPING THAT IT WILL SLOW HIM DOWN AND TAKE SOME OF HIS POWER AWAY.
23:39WE SAID WE WERE GOING TO WATCH FOR THE VOLUME PUNCHING AND THE TOTAL OUTPUT OF NAVARETTE.
23:51HE IS BELOW THE NUMBERS IN TERMS OF TOTAL PUNCHES THROW THAT HE TYPICALLY HAS BEEN WHEN HE'S ON HIS BEST,
23:58INCLUDING THE FIRST FIGHT BETWEEN THESE TWO.
24:00HOWEVER, HIS EFFECTIVENESS WITH THE POWER PUNCHES, THE 56 POWER PUNCHES LANDED TO THIS POINT,
24:05AND THE TWO KNOCKDOWNS SCORED, THAT HAS BEEN THE DIFFERENCE.
24:08NAVARETTE RIGHT NOW IS TAKING THIS ROUND OFF.
24:12TAKING THIS ROUND OFF RIGHT NOW, TRYING TO RECUPERATE FROM THAT LAST ROUND, THE END OF THAT LAST ROUND.
24:19MAYBE LOOKING FOR A SECOND WIN.
24:24IT'S BEEN WHAT HE DOES IN THE LAST HALF MINUTE OF HIS BEST WORK.
24:29THAT HAS BEEN MOST EFFECTIVE.
24:31LET'S SEE HOW HE FINISHES UP THIS FIFTH ROUND.
24:33AS HE DOES INCHES FORWARD, MOMENTS OF AGGRESSION FROM OSCAR VALDEZ.
24:43LONG, STRIDING LEFT HAND.
24:46MOUTHPIECE CAME OUT ON THAT PUNCH.
24:50TIME!
24:52MOUTHPIECE.
24:53THANK YOU.
24:55A LOOK AT ONE.
24:59THANK YOU.
25:00FIRST OF ALL.
25:01YOU ARE INTERESTING IN THOUGH, YOU GUYS.
25:02COULD, YOU ARE ICANDIATED.
25:04WELL EVERYBODY C jumому.
25:05THEY ARE RIGHT TO IMO.
25:06THANK YOU FORWARD.
25:07THEY ARE CALZADO.
25:08HE GOT HIM ON ALL.
25:09HE WAIT.
25:10Jens. Oscar Valdez. Wow, what a shot. That's eye candy. I mean, look at that. But look where he set it up, how he set it up. Right hand was being thrown. Navarrete in the southpaw position coming underneath. You rarely ever see this type of counter in the sport of boxing, baby. That was well placed, well timed by Navarrete.
25:35That mouthpiece went flying in the first row. He has taken some damage. But look at his face. Not deterred whatsoever. Still look hungry, still look determined. Just who he is. That's mad respect. In that fifth round, as all of a sudden, in that final minute, almost as if we knew it was coming, he said, oh, he's taken part of this round.
26:05He's ground off. He's recuperated. Then all of a sudden, in the last minute, he catches fire to Navarrete. And the world champion ends up throwing a fight high 89 punches and landing a fight high 27 punches, including 20 power punches with that left hand.
26:21That had the mouthpiece flying out of the mouth of Valdez.
26:30That right hand is landing continuously for Oscar Valdez. But he's got to add something to it. He's got to go downstairs. He's got to continue to commit downstairs on Navarrete.
26:42It's extremely important. And as you see, as I say that, he's going downstairs at the left foot.
26:59Valdez.
27:00Valdez.
27:01Looking for that combination now on the inside.
27:03Valdez.
27:03Valdez.
