Former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been sentenced to six months in jail by the International Crimes Tribunal for contempt of court. The verdict comes after a leaked audio call revealed Hasina allegedly mocking the judiciary and referencing a “license to kill” 227 people during the 2024 protests. The sentencing marks the first official ruling since her ouster and escape last year following mass student-led demonstrations. Former student leader Shamil Bulbul was also sentenced to two months. Defense lawyers call the charges politically motivated, while prosecutors hint at more charges to come.
