Bangladesh's International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) is expected to rule Monday (Nov 17) on former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who faces crimes against humanity charges over the violent crackdown on student protests in mid-2024.

00:00The International Crimes Tribunal, Bangladesh's domestic war crimes court, is expected to rule
00:10on Monday in the case of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who faces charges of crimes
00:15against humanity over the violent crackdown on student protests in mid-2024.
00:28It is said up to 1,400 people may have been killed during the protests between July and
00:35August 2024, with thousands more injured, most from gunfire by security forces.
00:44Prosecutors also alleged she oversaw enforced disappearances and torture of opposition activists
00:49through clandestine detention centers run by security agencies.
00:52Hasina denied the allegations, asserting she had no personal involvement in the use of
00:57lethal force or other purported offenses.
01:02Since fleeing to India following deadly student-led protests in August 2024, Hasina has confronted
01:09multiple legal cases.
01:11She was sentenced in absentia to six months in prison by the ICT in a contempt court case
01:16in July Bangladesh's interim administration, led by Muhammad Yunus, pledged to hold leaders,
01:24including Hasina, accountable for rights abuses and corruption, including the crackdown on
01:29the student-led uprising last July.
01:31The tribunal has so far issued three arrest warrants for Hasina, including charges of crimes
01:36against humanity linked to the July violence.
