00:00In order to meet the current challenges of the world, Professor Emeritus Datuk Dr. Wu Wingtai
00:05suggests a reform of the UN. He touched about this during the later session of Wu Seis.
00:13But we could, instead of giving up on them, we should work to reform them.
00:21For example, reforming the United Nations is exceedingly important.
00:26Just look at the most important part of the United Nations, which is the Security Council.
00:37The Security Council has as permanent members the US, Russia, China, UK, and France.
00:50This was the power structure at the end of World War II.
00:54But if you look at it today, that is just way out of line with what the world distribution of economic weight is.
01:09So I think that we need to do two things.
01:17We need to expand the, we got to make the United Nations reflect more like what the world is like today.
01:25Specifically, we should bring two more countries from Asia into the Security Council.
01:35Two more members from Latin America and two members from Africa.
01:45I think that would be the first step.
01:49The second step is to amend the system of veto.
01:56We mustn't let a situation where one country can stand against the will of the rest of the world.
02:04So you might have changed the veto system such that you need at least three countries to veto before it could be a veto.
