01:00Mr. President, my amendment is about a really important issue that has not gotten near enough
01:11attention for how devastating it will be for women in our country.
01:16Republicans' bill will cut millions of women off from birth control, cancer screenings,
01:22essential preventive health care, care that they will not be able to afford anywhere else.
01:27And it will shutter some 200 health care clinics in our country.
01:32And it will take another step towards enacting Republicans' plan for a backdoor nationwide
01:38abortion ban.
01:40How does it do this?
01:41By defunding Planned Parenthood.
01:43This is a long-sought goal of anti-choice extremists.
01:47No surprise.
01:48It is overwhelmingly unpopular with the American people.
01:53But Republicans are bent on ripping away any access to abortion care and happy to cut off
01:59this life-saving care.
02:00No matter that, women may not have another place to get the care that they can't afford or
02:06another place they can get any care at all.
02:08This amendment that I'm offering will strip this awful provision to defund Planned Parenthood
02:14from this bill and protect health care access for the millions of patients who rely on Planned
02:20Parenthood health centers.
