00:00The Suns and the Rockets did a deal now that the deal has had a little extra
00:08context because the Suns drafted and did some trades the Houston side of this we'll get to in
00:17a second how do you feel coach about Phoenix's return now that it's Jalen Green Dylan Brooks
00:26and come on Malawatch I think there is some talent there I mean listen Kevin and I are huge Malawatch
00:34fans I think he's going to be absolutely fantastic and Jalen Green needed to find a new home and you
00:39got that for someone that is on an expiring deal in which you really had no leverage so to get a guy
00:45that could get you 22 points a game is fantastic I think there's two Jalen Greens there's a Jalen
00:51Green three there's Jalen Green the regular season there's Jalen Green game two and there's
00:56Jalen Green who had five John Starks games in a series which Jalen Green is it but the thing
01:02about Jalen Green is he's 23 years old so to me you have time to figure it out Malawatch I think
01:09is fantastic I do like what they did last year with the Dunn kid out of out of Virginia you got
01:15to get Bradley Beal off the roster I don't I Beijing Duck Shanghai Sharks how you doing send him over
01:22there get whatever yen you can get back I mean he's just he's just gotta go but then the problem
01:30that I had with Phoenix honestly folks is going into before they got Tyus Jones was this whole
01:40mantra of we had a half season a couple years ago where Devin Booker had to run the point when Chris
01:46Paul was hurt and we're like Devin Booker's a point guard Devin Booker's not a point guard
01:52neither is Jalen Green so I need to know what to get rid of Bradley Beal who cannot be on that team
02:00who is the point guard and then I think as a sixth man I actually don't mind it with Jalen Green
02:07well from a Phoenix perspective I would say short term it looks okay you know get Bradley Beal out
02:16of there but if you develop Malawatch then all is it's all green like it's all it's all upside from
02:23that point uh I think at this point I would be looking at Devin Booker as the tank commander where
02:29they're not going to be competing next year and it's just about getting the best possible drafts they
02:33don't have their own pick so that's not enough that's true that's true so I don't see I I just
02:39don't see a path forward for them until Malawatch develops into the player that he is expected or
02:44can be and reaches his ceiling so I see this as a a short-term loss but a long-term gain for them
02:51if he develops and I don't see them competing next year I don't see this as a viable but then if you
02:57don't if you don't see them competing then forget just the fact of let's be honest
03:03Devin Booker at this point and you I mean uh Bradley Beal like Devin Booker is 28 years old
03:11if you're not going to compete and you don't have draft capital and you're in this window where you're
03:18about to rebuild but Malawatch did I did I did I Pelicans the Spurs the Trailblazers will all be
03:24better next year they're all going to be better than the Suns would you agree with that no no you
03:29don't think that the Spurs I'm not sure about that I'm going to be higher on Phoenix and everybody
03:32okay the Suns being bad last year pieces of it weren't surprising to me because Nurkic and Durant
03:38being around and good were way too important and both were outlier healthy the prior season
03:43and Nurkic and Budenholzer my Budenholzer gets way too much of a pass for what that whole season was he
03:50was atrocious I don't care what we thought about Budenholzer in the past I don't care much about him he was
03:55he was an embarrassed he put up an embarrassing effort as a coach this season I think Devin Booker
04:00is still really good I think that their center position is going to be infinity times better
04:06than what it was for the length of last season I again they won 36 games so if they're over under
04:13is 35 and a half next year we'll call it like I would say over that number that's my current read
04:18on this team now what I would just say is I'm not telling you like could Portland be better could
04:26New Orleans be better could yeah so the problem with all of this is in the West right now how many
04:33teams go into next season being like cool we're bad the whole list in this moment is just Utah
04:40maybe Sacramento if they look in the mirror the Grizzlies are sitting there 60 to 1 to win the West
04:48the Grizzlies next year are going to end up with a win total of like 46 and a half
04:53agreed but yet like so now I'm not sure that that that does not strengthen my case I'm just saying
05:01I cannot guarantee you Phoenix is worse than those teams because they are not interested in being worse
05:07than those teams they can't be worse well they they they they're all of their moves are going
05:13based on the fact that instead of drafting at 29 and keeping a 20-29 pick they traded for Mark
05:19Williams they have no interest in losing next year none like the Pelicans have no interest in losing
05:25one of the things with the NBA that has always made some of the projections easy as you enter a season
05:31you're like look at those eight teams that have no idea why they win on a nightly basis because they
05:36don't want to win the Western Conference am I is there is there another team you would throw in
05:41there that is interested in being bad next year beyond Utah and maybe Sacramento and I don't even
05:48know if Sacramento qualifies I'm not I'm not saying that they are looking to be bad the Drew Holiday
05:53trade tells me they want to win games yeah that's a culture identity change it's gonna be but the thing
05:58with Phoenix is is that it's not that they're looking to be bad it's just I don't think they will be good
06:03I I just don't think they will be good enough and that again is certainly the consensus and totally
06:10fine and I'm doing a little bit of a wait until the dust settles to figure out how I do a Western
06:15Conference power ranking but I cannot be sure that Portland whose best player is who is going to
06:22decidedly be better than the Phoenix Suns next year if you if you just base it off and yeah to Kevin's
06:27point if you just base it off a fan door and where they have the Western Conference odds yeah the only
06:32teams that have worse odds than Phoenix right now are Utah Portland Sacramento
