00:00you
00:16asalaamu alaykum you're watching newsroom i'm your host mahalid but today is the 19th of august 2021
00:22the 10th of muhram al-haram otherwise known as the yaum-e-ashur and these are the stories that
00:26we'll be talking about during the course of our show we'll begin with the whole day of ashur and
00:33ashura and of course the whole concept of sacrifice behind it have we learned from the sacrifices of
00:40our elders who laid down their lives in the valley of karbala on this very day 1400 years back we'll
00:47have to talk about in detail about whether this message that went across those hundreds of years
00:54ago is still relevant in this day and age in between the muslim umma and what needs to be done
01:00by us as a nation as muslim umma we have also had messages from prime minister imran khan and the
01:06president of pakistan on the occasion and also there have been mourners who have taken our
01:10position all across the country in a very uh in a regular manner whether it be karachi or islam
01:16then ladies and gentlemen we'll go to our second segment and the second segment concerns the latest
01:21developments as far as afghanistan is concerned afghanistan it is being said may be governed by
01:26a ruling council now that the afghan taliban have taken over and uh hey batullah khunzada will
01:34likely remain in the overall charges being said by a senior member of the taliban also the federal
01:40minister of information about chaudee sahab on tuesday said any recognition of the taliban regime
01:44will be a regional decision whereas the foreign minister shaman qureshi sahabai said that the propaganda
01:48by ashraf ghani's outside government against the taliban has again proven false as the insurgents
01:53have announced general amnesty and are not barring education of girls in the country also china has
01:58said that it will come to the question of diplomatic recognition of the taliban rule in afghanistan only
02:03and after an open inclusive and broadly representative regime was installed in afghanistan this is going
02:09to be our second segment and finally we'll be talking about uh the latest updates as far as covid 19 is
02:14concerned and what is being done in pakistan what is being done across the world uh how much havoc is
02:20a delta variant wreaking in pakistan and across the world as well there are different reports that we'll
02:26be talking about in uh short detail in our third story of the day let's begin with our first segment
02:31ladies and gentlemen and that concerns ashura the day of ashura 10th of muharam al-haram on this very day
02:39uh a sacrifice was laid down by uh many the grandson of azhar salallahu alayhi wa sallam along with other
02:47members of his family and this laid down the base of compassion of sacrifice of tolerance of the passion
02:57and the zeal and zest to go for what you want to do especially as far as the inside islamic principles
03:04are concerned are we ready are we still believing in all of that concepts that were given to us
03:10all those hundreds of years back we've been joined to talk about that with the khura milahi he's an
03:15academician and a lecturer thank you very much khuram to have joined us thanks so very much and we are
03:20seeing you after a very long time so welcome back to our forum uh khuram uh when you look at the
03:26sacrifices made all those hundreds of years back there was a very important message that went across
03:34to the muslims of the world a message that remains even more relevant and prevalent in this day and
03:41age do we understand that uh if you ask me for a genuine answer i don't think we have we really
03:48have understood that there's a very famous persian verse indhutaketa zhayat ayat padid musa
03:55o firon shabbir o jazeed there has always been two powers in the world and the world always balances
04:00itself on musas and pharaohs and then jazeed and hussein but we always consider imam hussein or the
04:08philosophy of hussein as the litmus test of any society but i don't think we stand against all
04:14the tyrants in our society i don't think we stand against all those cruel ones in our society and the
04:19greatest of the message of imam hussein was that you never do a compromise you never give a false
04:25pledge you never uh you never accept uh false terms you know just for you never do a bargain
04:32there is no bargain when you stay true to your resolve you stay true to your resolve and to the
04:37resolve of islam uh imam hussein was observing that uh on on the outside islam might look like what these
04:45people are observing but the real core values of islam are dissolving somewhere in their fanatic uh
04:51uh leadership where they want to keep the authority within their family and this is what not islam is
04:57all about so this is such a slight uh little thing to us nowadays where we're doing so many compromises
05:04in our life uh so hussein knew like the greater causes needs greater greater sacrifice and hence he went
05:12out and told them that i'll never give my pledge to you and you you don't deserve my pledge and you need
05:18to keep islam neat and clean out of these patriarchal values which you're carrying with the legacy and the
05:24way you're considering caliphite as your like you deserve it when you are a caliph you are a caliph of
05:31the people in fact you have to serve the people and this is also a concept that needs to be translated in
05:38this day and age in all of the different countries across the world now uh if i would ask you what the
05:43whole concept of husainyat is in a few words or phrases what would it be in your point of view
05:49i think never bowing down no matter what and this is what this age needs the most uh we just do countless
05:57compromises mr khalid every day uh to all those small things which we have considered that it's not
06:03bad to do all those things uh one of the famous lines of imam hussein that i'm going out and i'm giving
06:09them a reminder of my nana of my grandfather and all those little values which my father taught me
06:17and that's what my agenda is all about that i'll stop them from all the false things which they're
06:22doing and they those things don't have to be massive or big just even those are tiny little things and
06:28i'll and i'll hinder them i'll stop them i'll tell them that until hussein is alive you can't you can't you
06:35take a victory walk out there in kufa in kerbala and this is what imam hussein beautifully did he went
06:42out and he showed what real resistance is the real resistance which we're observing nowadays is not
06:48about fighting back with a larger yardstick or with a larger stick or keeping a larger stick than your enemy
06:53but hussein taught like how the resistance can be lived in eras and ages and that was when uh there's
07:01another famous verse of iqbal which is translated in english that we we still live the takbir we still
07:07live the allahu akbar of hussein we we're still listening to the echo of that one takbir from
07:13kerbala which we are trying to copy in our lives with a small takbir which was without a compromise
07:20without any hint of slavery without any hint of bowing down to a tyrant leader who was just keeping
07:27who was in who was actually a wolf and trying to show himself as a sheep and he was not and this is
07:32where this is where everything of islam went wrong in the history there's a famous verse of iqbal
07:45religion either becomes a dream or death if you don't have the right leader in the mosque and this
07:51is what imam hussein wanted uh us to know that religion is not only about those few verses which
07:59we can decide is if is a way of life yeah in fact it is much more than just a few verses of the quran
08:05or a few verses of the sunnah or ahadith now our prime minister also on the occasion said that uh imam
08:11hussein became a symbol of force against falsehood and strength for all the movements fighting against
08:18tyranny in the times to come he also said that uh the nation should not desist from sacrificing the
08:24life for the supremacy of the principles of truth and justice truth justice uh the fighting against
08:31falsehood and all the movements against tyranny how important do you feel in this day and age when
08:37you see around you and all of what you see on social media in the different countries across the world
08:42how much of you see things that are happening that need to be fought with the same principle with the
08:48same strength and zeer as has had imam hussein fought so hundreds of years back if you google
08:53you get a lot of literature that right now the world has been taken over by toxic leaderships the
08:57same phenomena which imam hussein was fighting they appear to be liberals or they appear to be democrats
09:03but inside they are toxic leaders who are narcissists who are cynical uh who who want more power they're
09:10not servant leaders they don't want to serve first to their to the people they're following and imam hussein
09:15stood against for the same thing and he actually showed off uh what is to be the servant leader
09:22he was out there with his family and like in 1980s the west came to know about these phenomena and
09:27they theorized that and imam hussein actually did that in 1980s that look when you look at jazeed he's
09:33not one of the leaders which islam portrays but in islam the leader has to be the servant first and
09:38this is where he has gone wrong and apart from that uh when we look at the uh when we look at the
09:43uh when we look at the neutral history we see there are so many uh other things which were associated
09:49with jazeed which were not of islam yet there were slogans of islam yet there were chantings of azan
09:55coming out of his his house his the mosque or or his or his palace this is again we need to take a
10:03check again we don't need more abdullah bin abaina societies we don't need more jazeed in societies
10:08who might check our societies are so full of people certainly certainly iqbal said kari nazar
10:13atah haqiqat mein quran jab tak tere zameer pe na ho na zule kitab until you're only you know
10:19reciting verses you cannot declare yourself to be a muslim because to be a muslim your batin your inner
10:26self that there should be a particular peace out there and that peace was with hussein that tranquility
10:32was with hussein that was not with jazeed hence the history proved if we take the hegel's formula the
10:38history proved that to the thesis of jazeed the antithesis of uh imam hussein gave us the synthesis
10:46of the modern islam the real islam the islam which resists tyranny the islam which resists
10:50cruel people like jazeed which again are uh in our society one thing which i missed with pmik said
10:57and as our teachers told us hussein is the litmus test whenever in in every day you have the option to
11:05be the hussein or the jazeed of course and there are time when we witness people acting like jazeed in
11:10our community and yet they claim to be from the clan of hussein and then this can't be true at the same
11:16way so we need to follow the ways of hussein instead of only cramming those values the time has arrived
11:22we're already in 2021 the global world the things are shifting you cover that every day the world is
11:28heading to mars and we still are trying to figure out that whom values to follow exactly where do we
11:35stand where do we stand and why this dichotomy why this duplicity why this hypocrisy uh across the world
11:41as far as the core values i mean these are values whether you're a muslim or non-muslim whether you're
11:46ehritashi or sunni or any other sect of islam you this is a universal principle that everybody has to
11:54follow in order to become a better human being why hasn't the world understood that and another thing
12:01when we talk about religion we consider that religion is something peaceful which we practice in the
12:05jungle like buddha finding our personal god and this is again beautiful mix which imam hussein showed us
12:11that even while you're fighting with someone you can actually reflect your best of the best practices
12:20so coming back to the point which where i wanted from the devil's parliament which is iqbal's very
12:26famous poem the last advice or the suggestion which a devil gave to his followers
12:38let them be happy in their passive mysticism this is what hussein told that i'm a mystic i'm a sufi i'm son
12:44of ali i'm grandson of muhammad but i don't shy to go out when it's required i my eye is as softer and
12:52my hand is as harder as the and i think this is something that we need to really understand in
12:57this dnh we've also been joined by professor abbas ali shamili he's an islamic values educator at the
13:03international university uh sir can you hear us professor shamili can you hear us
13:14all right uh we'll be back with mr shamili as soon as we get hold of him now uh khuram uh the pain
13:21the wound the grief of those hundreds of years back of those handful of muslims who stood uh in front of
13:29those thousands of uh tyrants that uh wanted to uh give them a piece of their mind one way or the
13:37other but they laid down an example for so many others to follow is that wound is that grief still
13:45fresh in people's minds those who adhere to the true islam certainly it is it is very fresh and it
13:52takes us back to surah bakra verse 155 where god tells us that you'll be tested by uh by fruits
13:59by your children i'll test you by sending you some hardships uh you might be hungry for some few
14:06days but imam hussein is the only entity in the in the world minimum which i know who went through all
14:12those tests which are given in surah bakra verse 155 in one particular space time so in one particular
14:19day in on the day of ashur imam hussein fought with hunger he fought he saw the he saw the pain of his
14:26own kids and then he saw uh the pressures which were on his own personal consciousness that i'm about to
14:32lay life uh for the betterment of the religion to vanguard my religion from those all artificial
14:39things which yazid want to add up in my my grandfather's religion and this is the last thing
14:43when the person came and he said that i'm gonna cut off your throat and imam hussein said uh
14:49uh do you scare me from death death is like a perpetual beginning for me this is what imam hussein
15:01said and this is again a such an uh amazing opening of a research world that imam hussein didn't shy away
15:09he didn't fear death at all when we look at his sermon of tenth uh though the pain is alive in our heart
15:16though we are sorrowful though we are mournful but imam hussein never gave a hint of being coward
15:22being a hint of that i'm scared or i'll do a compromise if you put some if you give me some
15:27leverage of water on the tenth sermon he was as focused like as anything like he's sitting in a
15:33wonderful place and like having a conversation with his enemy so this again tells us that uh we
15:39should only fear god no matter how powerful the enemy is and we know that things change when we only fear
15:45god well when we talk of focus determination and the zeal and the passion and that love for islam
15:53the love for prophets there are also other things that hazard imam hussein has taught us and that is
15:59to rise above hatred malice sectarianism and of course in lines not only with the teaching of islam
16:05but also the teaching of uh and also something that hazard imam hussein uh showed by laying now his life
16:12and those of his near and dear ones how much do you feel we need to adhere to that we see a lot of
16:21sectarianism a lot of hatred a lot of issues amongst people a lot of social issues that i've talked about
16:27in different shows in the past as well do you feel if we truly understand that whole concept those
16:32teachings that we can rise above and beyond and become better human beings i don't think so you're very
16:38right here uh when hur uh he and he saw imam hussein he was the first one to come and stand with imam
16:45hussein in our age if someone from the enemy's clan come and support me i would say no no no you're just
16:50another betrayal you're just another trick so we have so many doubts in our society and those are like
16:57that's catching up as a plague rather and secondly imam hussein the greatest of the message which is
17:03which he taught to all the religious people of this ages that come out of your shrines and practice
17:08religion as hussein you cannot do you cannot practice religion as a passive phenomena where
17:16you're only trying to make god happy and then there is another world outside where you're betraying
17:20people you're creating hatred and then you're again going for isha and you're again talking with
17:24the god and praying for your mercy there is no dichotomy at all religion is one single flow of mind
17:31either you're at the war or either you're at playing with your son either you're about to get hungry
17:36or either you're about to take a pledge there is no dichotomy in the religion and this dichotomy has
17:42brought us here iqbal beautifully said that for me religion is nothing but the highest form of
17:46curiosity to see god and it should be more than a scientist and we see that curiosity in imam hussein
17:52that even in the last even in one of the most last moments he was so curious to see god that he knew
17:59that he did his part to purify the religion from all those bad practices which were becoming the part
18:05of islam and imagine what went wrong with christianity today we cannot decipher uh like everyone
18:12considered them to be christian but there is some way some something went wrong and then there are
18:18people who are trying to bring back the hardcore christianity the christianity of principles etc and
18:24this would have happened with islam if imam hussein would have compromised his values exactly so he he
18:30laid down his life and those of his uh of his dear ones and laid down an example for all muslims to
18:37follow we've also been joined by professor abbas ali shamali now sir can you hear us now
18:41uh professor abbas ali shamali sir thank you very much to have joined us uh sir uh uh muhram
18:53al-haram the day of ashura that we are of course uh seeing today it does it how much does it really
