00:00Explain to people, I was trying to do it earlier, what it's like to be an undrafted free agent and not get any money really for the most part and to try to make a team in the NBA as opposed to playing overseas and actually making some decent money and getting a couple of years of burn where you're actually playing.
00:21And, you know, guys that go over there and play a lot and make good money, aren't they better off, honestly, than trying to make an NBA team and then let's say they hypothetically make it and sit at the end of the bench and never get a single minute of burn ever in the NBA and make no money.
00:40What's the better decision for guys that don't get drafted? And how do you feel about executives picking players that people have never heard of over players that are really good that didn't get drafted?
00:54Well, simply put, Pharrell, it's about one of two things. Is it about your money or is it about your ego? I mean, what do you think? Are you picking what you're behind and what you're sitting on or are you thinking with your heart, right?
01:03Because if you think about what you're sitting on, which is on your wallet, yeah, you go overseas and play.
01:08Because remember, Pharrell, when you go overseas and play in Europe or Asia or, you know, any of these leagues, for the most part, they pay for your housing.
01:16They pay for your car. They pay for your meals. They pay for the transportation. That money is pocket money, right?
01:21You're not paying any bills. Everything's paid for when you go overseas.
01:26Whereas when you go and you're on a two-way contract, they're shuttling you back from your team to the G League team, and you can be out of a job in a year.
01:35So to me, it's about what's more important, your money or your ego, right?
01:40Now, to me, here's what happens. In the NBA, more than any other league, maybe baseball too, you're drafted more on what they think you could be more than what you are.
01:57That's why the NBA, in my opinion, people think it's brawny. It's not that.
02:02They went to a two-day draft because of the fact that it allowed people to see the household names get picked, right?
02:11The Rashear Flemings who dropped, the Ryan Conkbretters, the Eric Dixons, the Chaz Lanieres.
02:16And then we talk about guys like the Grant Nelsons or the Searses and the guys like that, the Zieglers, the guys that, the R.J. Lewises that don't get drafted.
02:25The second day is about the names that we know more about, and it's a smart play by the NBA because it gets people to watch, and it adds to a little bit of intrigue.
02:36But I think that's the tough part, Pharrell, is, you know, you take a guy like Yang Henson, he's a little bit, he has an upside.
02:43He's a little bit of an unknown commodity, right?
02:46Ryan Conkbretter was a four-time defensive player of the year in the Big East.
02:50The only other person to do it was Patrick Ewing, and he still went in the second round.
02:56So to me, the longer, it's almost like the longer you stay in college, the longer you're going to stay in the draft.
