00:00Hi there, good morning. Welcome to the latest update from the Met Office. Following a damp

00:05night for many of us, we're going to see a north-south gradient in the weather during

00:10the rest of Friday. The wettest and cloudiest conditions towards the north and northwest,

00:15the driest and brightest weather towards the south and southeast. Some spots of rain though

00:20during the morning across Wales and the southwest, they tend to fizzle away. And then really

00:24across much of Wales, the Midlands, East Anglia and the south, it's a bright afternoon with

00:29temperatures up to 25 to 26 Celsius, widely up to 27 or 28 in some of the sunnier spots.

00:35This south-westerly breeze bringing an increase in the humidity once again, but also bringing

00:39this thick cloud that we'll see across much of west and north Wales, northern England,

00:44Scotland and Northern Ireland. The rain on and off through the day, but it's going to be persistent

00:48and heavy at times, particularly over the hills of western Scotland and the breeze picking up

00:53further overnight. That breeze will bring a return to cloud across many parts of the UK. So with the

00:58breeze, the increase in humidity and the cloud and rain, temperatures not falling much below

01:02the high teens. An uncomfortable night for sleeping. And then a grey, misty start to the weekend.

01:08Extensive low cloud, outbreaks of rain turning lighter, more drizzly across Northern Ireland,

01:13central and southern Scotland, northwest England, north Wales on Saturday morning. That tending to

01:18fizzle further through Saturday. Brighter skies develop to the south and to the north, feeling fresh

01:24in the north of Scotland with a brisk breeze. Gales around exposed northern coasts. But to the south,

01:30we've got high pressure building. That's going to squeeze out the weather front and bring largely

01:36settled weather by the end of Sunday across most of the UK. Although by Monday, this weather system

01:42will bring some additional cloud and rain into the far northwest. Meanwhile, as high pressure elsewhere

01:48moves to the east, we'll see higher temperatures extend across many parts of the UK early next week.

01:55But the highest temperatures will be through central and southeastern parts of England with the chance

02:01of 30 plus. A top temperature most likely of 32 or 33 Celsius, but a smaller chance. It will end up even

02:10hotter than that on Monday. And that heat perhaps lingering in the far east during Tuesday before

02:15eventually fresher conditions return by midweek from the west.
