00:00Hello, my name's Ian Griffin, Deputy Editor of Midlands Business Insider, and I'm here tonight
00:14hosting the 10th Midlands Residential Property Awards here at Edgbaston Stadium in Birmingham.
00:21It's a new venue for me, and it's a venue we've not been at at Insider for a few years.
00:27It's a venue for winners, and I've actually just now been watching the conclusion of a four-day
00:34county championship game, and it actually ended in a draw. But tonight is about winners, and in front
00:42of 350 people this evening, there'll be 15 awards given out, everything from Emerging Person of the
00:49Year to Dealer of the Year and two flagship awards for Residential Development of the Year. It's going
00:56to be a fantastic evening. Now let's hear what some of the judges have to say, and let's hear from some
01:02of the winners. Hello, I'm Lucy Blasdale. I'm the Regional Strategic Land Director at Barrett Redrow,
01:08and it has been an absolute pleasure to be involved in the judging for this year's
01:13Midlands Property Awards. The standard of entries this year has been great. Yes, they might have
01:20been slightly fewer in number this year than we've seen in previous years, but they were ones
01:25that we did receive, were a really high standard. There was great dialogue between the judges,
01:32and we did have some debate over who were the winners, because we all had slightly different
01:37views, but we were all agreed in the end. Certainly you can see that a lot of effort has gone into the
01:45creation of these entries, and it's great to see so many people here this evening enjoying the
01:51ceremony. Hi, I'm Fraser Godfrey, Director at Howells. This is my first time being a judge at the
01:58Insider Midlands Residential Property Awards. I was really impressed with the quality of entries
02:03we've seen this year. I think the judges had a real sort of hard time debating who should win the
02:10awards, but we got there in the end, you know, reached the conclusion. And yeah, I think I was
02:15really impressed with the variety that we saw this year. The evening itself has been fantastic,
02:19seen lots of familiar faces, great networking, and you know, it's great to see the best developers,
02:26the best architects, designers here celebrating the awards tonight.
02:30Hi, I'm Hannah Booth, Senior Development Manager at HVD. I'm delighted that we have won
02:37Residential Development of the Year over 100 units. This is for Settle in the Jewellery Quarter
02:44in Birmingham. It's a real honour to have our scheme acknowledged by the Insider Midlands
02:50Residential Property Awards. Just highlights all the hard work that we've put into the scheme,
02:55creating it to be a community for people to work in our co-working lounge, rest in our wellness studio,
03:02and enjoy the rooftop terrace over the summer and the winter months if they can see it.
03:07Hi, I'm Vicki Fox from Turley. I've won the Emerging Property Person of the Year award tonight,
03:14and I'm extremely delighted to have won the award, thanks to the nomination from some of my wonderful
03:20colleagues who I work with at Turley. And yeah, it's a very exciting award to be given tonight. I think
03:30there's a lot of buzz around the industry at the moment, given the political agenda for delivering
03:37homes. And it's very exciting to be a part of some major regeneration projects, which I'm very proud to
03:44have been a part of. And I would just encourage the future generation to get involved and look at career
03:53opportunities. And I am very interested, particularly as someone who didn't know what planning was until
04:00I went to university. I do really want to be a role model for those in the industry and for newcomers who
04:10are aspiring for a really fulfilling career. Yeah, I just say there's a lot of opportunities in this career
04:16for placemaking, but also delivering much needed homes in the country. And I think the West Midlands
04:23at the moment is sort of thriving with opportunities. And it's great to see that this part of the region
04:31is doing so well. And if this part of the region is doing well, then nationally, I think we're all on the
04:38sort of same path for success. So Stuart Buckley, MD of Warwickshire Property Development Group. And I just
04:48have to say what a total shock and surprise it was to win the Personality of the Year award in front of what is
04:56a fantastic crowd and, you know, very experienced property people within the room. What really sort of brought you
05:07home was the fact that, as I was talked about on stage, it was all the partnerships we've done over the years,
05:14and all the schemes that are delivered with a lot of people in the room, and the fact that a lot of the schemes
05:22were difficult schemes. And they happened because of partnership, because, you know, it's not me as an
05:29individual, it's me working with the team. Both, you know, what I love about the Royal Ship Property Development Group
05:36is we have a fantastic team. We have fantastic support from our shareholder. And, you know, we're delivering
05:43thousands of homes across Warwickshire on some challenging sites and some big greenfield sites.
05:50We're delivering small commercial units for SMEs. We're delivering local centres to provide community facilities.
05:57You know, all of that, you know, all of that, you know, is benefiting the whole of the residents in the county.
06:02And so, for me, just, you know, listening to, you know, what people talk about in the room around delivery
06:10and delivering residential, commercial and mixed use, we're doing that and we're doing it, you know,
06:16across a whole county with the support of the county and the residents.
06:21And I think for me, just listening to sort of, you know, all the other people tonight that, you know,
06:29have been nominated and have been put up for awards, when you look at all the schemes that have been delivered,
06:34the first thing you notice on all the awards sheets is the partnership, the architects, the developers, the lawyers.
06:41And that's what embodies the industry win, really, and that's what I enjoy being part of for the last 20 odd years.
