British country singer-songwriter Anna Howie makes her Festival of Chichester debut on the back of her new album Good for Roses which came out in the spring.

00:06festival of chichester now fantastic that at this year's festival of chichester on saturday july the

00:1212th at 8pm at the chichester inn anna howie is making her festival chichester debut now we spoke

00:18in january moaning about january weather but in january two months ahead was your album release

00:24now that album came out two months ago now and you've had a great response to it haven't you

00:29good for roses yeah we've had a lovely response we've been so enjoyed it we've been playing

00:35it live around the uk for the last few months and um yeah if one thing has come out of um if you had

00:44to take one bit of feedback that keeps coming uh keep people keep saying to us it's that it's it

00:51leaves them feeling um really positive and kind of sends them away with a bit of a positive

00:56um spring in their step and really that's kind of it for me that's that feels like job done well

01:04that's really good because on the album you're actually talking about some quite tough things

01:07aren't you yeah finding your way through things absolutely yeah it's definitely there are definitely

01:13songs that were quite tricky to write and ones that you can see people in the audience are kind

01:19processing and and making their own which is amazing um but overall it's about coming through

01:27those times and how you come out the other side a bit stronger a bit wiser um a bit happier and

01:36what's been so interesting is you've discovered which ones land as you say with audiences which you

01:41can't know when you're in the recording studio has it surprised you which ones people have really

01:45taken to um i should know this by now but i always it always reteaches me that the ones where you've

01:54hit a personal nerve with yourself in the writing process are the ones that then hit with people in

02:01the audience and that's i should know that i should know that because it's happened to me a lot over

02:06the years um but it's always uh i guess the icing on the cake when you've gone through quite a process

02:14in the writing and then you see the whites of people's eyes they're very close to you as you're

02:19doing it live and you see that it is what you're saying the lyrics are resonating that's really

02:25encouraging isn't it because isn't that what that's telling you it's the fact is whatever you're facing

02:29whatever the issue is you're not actually alone with it and once you've put it into a song

02:33it therefore strikes a chord doesn't it yeah absolutely and um that's the power of music right

02:39that's the power of uh of live music as well as recorded but um yeah we've had so we've had lots of

02:47um people we've been going to towns where people wouldn't necessarily know who we are we've felt like

02:53a lot of people have kind of taken a taken a risk in coming to see us um because they don't really know

03:01much about us and they haven't seen us before and all of that kind of stuff and that makes it extra

03:07special when you see that you've kind of connected with them and we've just had a lovely time and we

03:14will have a lovely time at the chichester inn we are ready for that also fantastic well so pleased

03:21that you are part of our festival this year keep coming build those audiences with us lovely to speak
