00:38The accumulation of objects seized by the Directorate for the Protection and Use of Public

00:42Spaces not only affected the visual environment but also represented a health and safety risk

00:48for residents of the surrounding areas.

00:50Following the public complaint, authorities immediately began removing the waste and

00:54transporting it to the Duquesa Landfill as well as to other spaces designated for this

00:59type of waste.

01:01The cleanup has been going on for two consecutive days and although the total removal remains

01:05to be completed, the step taken is appreciated.

01:09What must be clear is that no protected area, such as the Mirador Sur, can be used as a storage

01:14area for garbage or seized items.

01:17This practice degrades the environment and causes justifiable discomfort among citizens.

01:23Neighbors in the area had expressed concern about the progressive growth of the scrap piles

01:27and reports that criminals or vagrants have taken refuge in some of the area's caves, further

01:32exacerbating the insecurity.

01:34The Director of the DUEP, Lieutenant Colonel José Anibal Sanz, has promised that a new

01:39location is being sought for these objects away from residential areas.

01:44This is the right decision.

01:46Citizens hope that this cleanup is not a momentary gesture but the beginning of a permanent solution.

01:51As one neighbor aptly put it, imagine a cyclone knocking down those junk, a tragedy, correcting

01:58it was the right thing to do.
