00:00She died in a car allegedly driven by an MLA's son. But why isn't Namrata Bora's
00:04death a national story? 25-year-old Namrata Bora, a law intern from Guwahati, died on
00:094 June 2025 near Nongpu Meghalaya. Officially, it's been called a road accident. But to her
00:14family, and to many following the case, it doesn't feel that simple. Namrata was returning from
00:19Shillong, where she had reportedly gone to see the sunrise with four friends. Anaya Tulwadu,
00:23the AIUTF youth leader and son of MLA Hafiz Bashir, was part of the group, which also included
00:29Mriganga Bora, Pragya Dehengya and Gayatri Bora. Their vehicle crashed around 4.15 a.m. Two of
00:35the companions, Anayatul and Gayatri, allegedly fled the scene, while the remaining two took
00:40Namrata to the hospital, where she was declared dead. Her family has filed two FIRs, naming all
00:45four companions as suspects and alleging foul play. They've raised serious questions about
00:49inconsistencies in the friend's account of what happened. Namrata's father, Raman Bora,
00:54also noted that she had left behind her iPhone and carried only a basic phone,
00:58an unusual move, especially if she was going out to watch the sunrise.
01:01He has publicly called for a full investigation. Assam CM Himanta Biswasarma and Meghalia CM
01:07Conrad Sangma have promised action. Namrata's friends have been detained for questioning,
01:11and a post-mortem has been conducted. But why is this story involving the unexplained death of a young
01:16woman, potential political links and multiple FIRs still largely confined to local news outlets and
01:22social media whispers? Would things be different if this happened in another city,
01:26or if the people involved didn't include the son of a politician?
