00:00Have you heard this viral TikTok sound?
00:12There's nothing like a distinctive laugh, and this TikTok trend is highlighting some particular
00:17kinds of laughs from characters of the anime Bleach. But where did the trend start, and is
00:21that actually what these characters sound like? On March 27th, 2025, TikToker Niyuki posted a
00:27Bleach fan edit, highlighting the characters Orihime Inouye, Rukia Kuchiki, Ichigo Kurosaki,
00:32and Nelly Elf. The video plays short clips of each character laughing,
00:35mashed up with a beat called Harinezumi made by artist Wayera.
00:43The video garnered over 20 million views over the next several months. Other users would start
00:48using the sound from Niyuki's video in their own content as early as April 2025, like this
00:53Gacha Life edit from YouTuber Helena that garnered over 15 million views. The audio spread with
00:58creators making more animations depicting characters from different fandoms laughing
01:02along to the sound. For example, on April 15th, TikToker and animator Ami Artra posted a short
01:07animation using the audio based on the Roblox survival horror game Dandy's World, garnering
01:12over 2.4 million views in a month. The meme really picked up traction in May and June,
01:16as more and more creators would post all kinds of viral content using the sound, showing more
01:20animated characters from different fandoms laughing, creating fan art or edits based on
01:25Niyuki's original video, or posting IRL versions with friends lip-dubbing to the laughing sounds.
01:30Even this weird little horse puppet was depicted laughing along to the sound.
01:34This spurred a further How I Laugh trend, where creators lip-dub to the laughs alongside
01:38captions labeling each one as how they would laugh in different situations. For example,
01:42on May 19th, TikToker Kier So Based posted a lip-dub with a caption for each laugh,
01:47the first being how he laughs at femboys, the second, how he laughs in front of the gang,
01:51and the last, how he laughs at haters of Kaisenat, garnering over 5.8 million views in just over a week.
01:57On June 13th, YouTuber Laze posted a video breaking down the different elements of the trend,
02:02starting by showing what the actual laughs from Bleach sound like without the tracks.
02:05Oh, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!
