00:00The votes are in. August 2025 just crowned its most controversial meme, and honestly,
00:04the robots probably aren't happy about it. The winner of August 2025's meme of the month is
00:09Clanker, a Star Wars slur that became the internet's favorite way to hate on AI and robots.
00:14But this month's top five tells a wild story about where internet culture is heading.
00:18Clanker took 19% of votes by giving everyone permission to yell at delivery bots and imagine
00:22beating up their daughter's AI boyfriend. The term actually originated in Star Wars
00:25Republic Commando in 2005. But TikTok turned it into a catch-all robot slur that exploded to
00:30millions of views. Coming in second with 8.1% was Adrienne Ethic Brainrot, the ultimate Gen Z
00:36tribute to peak internet chaos. This isn't just random nonsense. It's a calculated mashup of the
00:41most viral brain rot content from the past few years. The memes take viral hits like Adrienne
00:45Explain Our Friend group and Coffee Spelled Backwards and combine them into maximum absurdity content.
00:50TikTokers are creating increasingly complex scenarios like Adrienne as 41 Ethics while
00:55wearing x-ray vision for grippers while getting a barbershop haircut that cost a quarter.
00:59Third place went to something completely different. Lizard, Lizard, Lizard with 7.9%.
01:03This came from the most unexpected source, a post-credits scene in the movie Elio. The scene
01:08shows an animated lizard tapping the lizard emoji on a phone while text-to-speech repeats
01:12Lizard, Lizard, Lizard. TikTokers turned it into the perfect soundtrack for any spam clicking
01:16situation. Whether you're trying to skip ads, lighting a fuse, or dealing with annoying corporate
01:20systems, people started using the lizard animation as a green screen overlay. It also spawned endless comment
01:25sections of people just typing lizard, lizard, lizard. Fourth place, with 7.6% was Saibao,
01:31which stands for Shut Your B-Word, A-Word Up. The acronym has been growing since February 2025,
01:37but it really exploded with the S-Y-B-A-U-Guy meme format. The S-Y-B-A-U-Guy became a Photoshop
01:43template spreading across X and Reddit, and the term became a staple in slang overload memes where
01:47creators combine every new internet term into incomprehensible word soup. And rounding out fifth
01:52place with 7.6%, the thinking monkey, this reaction image has actually been around since 2011,
01:57featuring a monkey in what looks like deeper thought than most humans experience. But 2025
02:01turned it into the perfect reaction for complex internet drama and philosophical TikTok moments.
02:07The rest of the field included Clippy PFP movement at 6.3%, W place at 5.6%, and Mason
02:126.7% at 4.2%. Don't see your favorite meme from August? Make sure to vote in September's poll
