Guatemalan National Civil Police (PNC) riot police violently repressed a peaceful protest against controversial mining licenses in the Sierra de las Minas, firing tear gas and leaving at least one person seriously injured. 00:00And we go now to Guatemala as riot police from the National Civil Police violently repressed a peaceful protest against mining licenses in the Santa Cruz mountain range with tear gas, leaving one person seriously injured.

00:13The victim, who is in serious condition, is the son of community journalist Raimundo Amador.

00:19The incident occurred in front of the Río Dulce deputy mayor's office, where neighbors had gathered to express their opposition to authorized mining projects.

00:28Human rights organizations have demanded an immediate investigation, as well as guarantees for the exercise of social protest and freedom of the press.
