Early Years and Childhood
Difficult childhood: Krug's childhood was marked by a traumatic experience that left him speechless and avoiding direct eye contact with other people.
Chess as a refuge: At the age of 12 or 13, a psychologist taught him to play chess, as it was the only way he could communicate. Chess thus became an important refuge for processing his stressful past.
Professional Career
Education and Early Jobs: Krug did not complete a commercial apprenticeship and instead worked in various jobs. These included positions as a trained projectionist in a cinema and later as a night porter in 4-star hotels in Salzburg.
Challenges: During his youth, he lived in poverty at times, went hungry, and had to eat stale bread, highlighting his difficulties and his struggle for survival.
Development into a versatile talent
Chess composition: Krug developed a passion for chess composition and was named a FIDE Master in this discipline in 2017.
