00:00I think we knew this all along.
00:02This is what has been said by many people, not least of all myself,
00:06but especially the victims, the survivors of this scandal.
00:10And this is their victory right now.
00:12I want to pay tribute to so many of them who waived their anonymity
00:15and never stopped fighting because they talked about this
00:18and they were dismissed as dog whistling,
00:21jumping on a far-right bandwagon and all sorts of nonsense.
00:23And I'm glad that the Casey Report has now exposed
00:26that we needed a full national inquiry all along.
00:29We cannot live in a society where we treat people differently
00:32because of the colour of their skin
00:34or decide not to invest certain crimes
00:36because of people's religion or ethnicity.
00:38That is not the country we live under.
00:40We should have one law for every single person.
00:43And it is a disgrace that so many children,
00:45because they were children, were allowed to suffer like this
00:47because a lot of people who worked in social security
00:50or in the police or local councils
00:52decided that they didn't want to touch this with a barge pole.
00:55They failed those children.
00:56And all of the inquiries that we've had up until now
00:58have taken too long.
00:59They have made some progress but not gone far enough.
01:02And that is why I'm very pleased
01:03that we're now going to have a full national inquiry.
