00:00I'm Isabelle, and this is Margo and her mom, Anna, who pays $3,000 a month for Margo to live in this colorful apartment.
00:16Hi, Anna! Hi, Margo! I brought you some treats. I know I found the right place because there are some dog shoes at the entryway.
00:24I know, aren't they cute? They're so cute.
00:26And I would love a tour of your apartment, Margo, if you'd like to show me around.
00:31Okay, I feel like the first thing I'm noticing is color.
00:35By day, I'm a rug designer, so when I'm designing a space, it really starts with a rug and the main color palette that comes from the rug.
00:43This piece was a really fun piece to bring in.
00:47A lot of the colors from the rug are echoed throughout the space, like in these pillows and the furniture.
00:53You have a young dog. How do you navigate having a dog and also having a beautiful rug that you designed yourself?
01:00For so long, we were saying that we wanted a dog, but we couldn't have one because we have this rug.
01:05Because of the rug?
01:06It's a very durable rug. I think when you get a really nice handmade piece, wool is naturally water repellent.
01:14How does Margo feel about the rug?
01:16She finds little spots, sticks her body half under the couch, makes her feel safe.
01:21Definitely.
01:23You want your spot, girly?
01:27I always use having dogs as an excuse to have my apartment look messy and whatever, but now I have no excuse because this is impeccable.
01:36I have to point out this fuzzy blanket. Do you have this blanket for Margo?
01:41It is literally a dog blanket.
01:43Is it really?
01:44When we first brought her home, she kind of took over this blanket that was on her bed with a similar texture.
01:50So when did you adopt her?
01:52We got her at the end of September of this year.
01:54When we brought her home, she experiences a little bit of separation anxiety.
01:59Having cozy things and just feeling comfortable in her space is super important.
02:07I feel like that's such a good example of how a home can help a dog decompress after adoption.
02:13And something as simple as a fuzzy blanket can really just make all the difference in the world.
02:20Okay, next I feel like we have to talk about this shelf and especially this Margo portrait.
02:25When we first adopted Margo, she sent us this as a little welcome Margo gift, which is really sweet.
02:32And how do you put together a shelf like this?
02:35Having a modular system and having little zones within one big wall shelf is really helpful.
02:41I have a lot of tiny collections.
02:44Matches?
02:44Yes, that's a big collection though.
02:47A lot of restaurant matches.
02:49And I see you have a wedding section over here.
02:51Yes.
02:52Can you tell me a little bit about your husband?
02:54And is he as obsessed with Margo as you are?
02:57Totally.
02:58If not more, honestly.
03:01He loves Margo so much.
03:02It's really sweet.
03:04There is one shelf that is not like the others.
03:07What is this shelf of random piles of wood?
03:10I started taekwondo.
03:11This is the wood that I've chopped with my hands and feet.
03:15That is amazing.
03:17It's pretty fun.
03:20It makes you feel powerful.
03:21Yeah.
03:22Is there a Margo section and is this all there is?
03:26That is maybe the start of like a larger moment for her.
03:31Right, because you've only had her for a couple of months.
03:33Yeah.
03:33This is my petition for Margo to get a section.
03:36I know.
03:36This is the Margo Zone.
03:37That's the Margo Zone.
03:43We play a lot of music in our house.
03:45I was going to say, I see your record player here.
03:47Can you show me your whole setup?
03:48There's a lot of records in here.
03:51And then we have like this fun speaker system where we have these speakers in each room.
03:57So whatever is playing is just echoed throughout the apartment.
04:00And then like Margo can be in the bedroom listening to same song.
04:06I love it.
04:08Music and soothing sounds are always playing in our home.
04:11And because Margo experiences a little bit of separation anxiety,
04:14I think playing these relaxing songs and videos in the background really keeps her calm and relaxed.
04:21What kind of music does she like to listen to?
04:23She honestly loves a good lo-fi song.
04:26Watch this.
04:27Margo.
04:28Margo.
04:30Good girl.
04:34I love these videos.
04:36I know, right?
04:37And we have T-Mobile 5G home internet.
04:39So it only took us 15 minutes to set up our Wi-Fi, get connected to the internet.
04:44And it's really great how fast their speeds are.
04:47Whether I'm watching a movie, playing music and videos for Margo.
04:51Plus our price won't change for five years.
04:54Guaranteed.
04:55That's amazing.
04:56And I love that Margo can remain calm and relaxed when she is home alone.
05:01Definitely.
05:04Would you mind showing me your kitchen?
05:06Of course.
05:08Okay, wait.
05:09I immediately see this little section that says Margo.
05:12What is this?
05:13This is like her treat section for home, her treats for walks, and then just like other
05:20little Margo-related things.
05:22And then is this also Margo-related?
05:24This is her bag of sweaters, her clothing, and wardrobe.
05:29Oh my god.
05:30Please pull that one out.
05:31What is this?
05:32That is a cute little pepper jacket.
05:36Wait, why do I want this for myself?
05:37It's so cute and it's reversible.
05:38She has a raincoat.
05:41A classic yellow raincoat.
05:43This fit her more when she was really tiny, but I'm keeping it for sentimental reasons.
05:47Of course.
05:50What are you trying to get?
05:51She's trying to get a specific outfit she wants to wear today.
05:56I also love this table.
05:58It's actually a piano.
06:00It's kind of like our piano bar because we have our bar stuff here.
06:04Wait, I'm sorry.
06:05This is a piano?
06:06It is.
06:07It's like a secret hidden piano.
06:10Who plays piano?
06:11My husband, Garrett.
06:13And he plays guitar.
06:14I feel like that's also why we have a lot of music in the house.
06:17Margot is sitting in her bed under the piano.
06:23As we discussed, she likes a little cave and she likes to be under things.
06:28When we're eating over here, cooking, she can kind of zone out and have her nap time.
06:34It's just a sweet thing to look over at when we're eating.
06:38We're like, look her tongue's out.
06:39She's searching for toys in her basket.
06:42Oh, I didn't even notice the toy basket.
06:44Does she have a favorite toy?
06:46Do you want to choose one?
06:47She loves a snuffle toy where you can hide treats.
06:51This wine bottle is a snuffle toy.
06:55Wait, is it really?
06:56Yes.
06:56Oh my God.
06:57Also, can we talk about how her toys match her water bowl?
07:02It's all matching and it even matches the kitchen walls.
07:06This is like next level planning.
07:09Did she find one?
07:10No.
07:11All right.
07:11Bye, girl.
07:12Bye.
07:16Do you want to sit down and have a little tea break with me?
07:19I would love to.
07:20And I actually brought something.
07:22This is a mug with my dog Simon on it.
07:27Is that a little illustration of it?
07:28Yeah.
07:30Tell me about the design of your kitchen.
07:32So I really just am always drawn to different patterns and color palettes.
07:37And I think that playing with a space really comes in with the accessories.
07:41Even if it's just a tablecloth, I have a lot of fun with playing with new things that are
07:46interchangeable and I can really mix it up.
07:49When you guys are sitting down for a meal, is she right below your feet or is she more in
07:54her bed sleeping?
07:55She's typically tucked underneath one of the chairs.
07:59And when we have guests over, we say that she picks her favorite person to sleep underneath
08:04their chair.
08:06She just wants to be wherever we are, honestly.
08:09And that's why we have a dog bed in the kitchen.
08:11I mean, clearly.
08:16I am dying to know the color palette in your bedroom.
08:20Would you mind showing me?
08:21Yes, let's do it.
08:22I love this blue door.
08:25Did you paint this yourself?
08:26I did.
08:27I feel like it's just a really fun pop and a way to separate the space.
08:32Painting something like a French door is so low stakes.
08:34You can switch it up all the time.
08:38What other alterations have you made in this apartment besides coloring a door blue?
08:43So we change the ceiling lights in every room, actually.
08:47It changes a space so much and, you know, you can always change a light back similar to
08:53painting a door.
08:54Like a very renter-friendly hack that really transforms a space.
09:01Okay, so I noticed that Margo is taking a little nap under this bench here.
09:06Can you tell me about this space?
09:07Yes, so this is, like, not a formal bed, but she loves this little blanket.
09:14She's claimed this coffee table as her little zone and her den.
09:21You do have a crate.
09:23Yes.
09:23Is she crate trained?
09:25She is crate trained, and that was honestly, like, the biggest hurdle.
09:29And I do work right here, so having the crate here was really helpful in the crate training.
09:34Have her associate it as her space and, like, a happy zone.
09:39And I noticed that while this is a typical metal crate, same one that I use with all my foster
09:45dogs, you still made it cute.
09:47What is this cover that you have on top of it?
09:49This is honestly just a tablecloth.
09:51No way!
09:52Crates are not cute.
09:54We opted for the classic crate and then just draped a tablecloth over.
09:59Genius!
10:01As soon as I walked in, I saw this incredible piece.
10:04Can you please tell me about this Margo painting?
10:07Yeah, this is a piece from the artist Carly Beck.
10:10This was a custom painting that I got as a gift for Garrett.
10:15It's Margo at Bellarmine's Bar on the Upper East Side, and it's one of our favorite places.
10:20I love an artist that is really good at making pet portraits.
10:24Yeah, of course.
10:25That's, like, my number one requirement.
10:26Yes.
10:29Margo has been sleeping like an angel this entire time that we've been in here.
10:33Anna, thank you so much for showing me your apartment with Margo.
10:39I got so many ideas for my own space.
10:42I really need to step my game up.
10:44I feel like seeing the way that you have thoughtfully created this space really represents who you
10:48are as people.
10:49And it is so obvious how much love and care you put into it and how much you love Margo,
10:55and I'm very inspired.
10:57Yeah, I feel like we got really lucky with how she was seamlessly integrated within our
11:02home and not much really changed about it other than her sort of claiming these different
11:08spots in each room, which we love.
