00:00Authorities in the United States have detained more than 150 people during protests against
00:18President Donald Trump's migration policies. In Venezuela, candidates began to register for
00:27municipal elections to be held on July 27, 2025. A humanitarian convoy named Maghreb
00:38resolved to depart from Tunisia with thousands of volunteers to demand an end to the genocide
00:45and for humanitarian aid to be allowed into the entire Gaza Strip.
00:53Hello and welcome to From the South. I'm Alejandra Garcia from Telesur Studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:57We begin with the news.
01:10Authorities in the United States have detained more than 150 people during protests against
01:15President Donald Trump's migration policies. On the third consecutive day of protests in downtown Los
01:21Angeles, demonstrators confronted Trump's order to deploy 2,000 National Guard soldiers. Protesters
01:28rejected the ban on foreigners from 12 countries and demanded the release of service employees
01:34international union California leader David Huerta. In this context, U.S. President Donald Trump
01:41asserted that protests only strengthened his determination to continue deporting illegal migrants.
01:47Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum demanded that the United States respect the human rights of migrants
02:00after violent incidents in that country. The Mexican leader condemned the violence that occurred after
02:06immigration raids carried out over the weekend in Los Angeles, California and expressed her support for the
02:11Mexican community in the United States. Furthermore, Sheinbaum rejected violent acts from protesters calling
02:18on the Mexican community to act peacefully and not to fall for provocations. In this context,
02:24the Mexican head of state urged the U.S. authorities for all immigration procedures to be carried out
02:30in adherence to due process within the United States with respect with respect for human dignity and due process.
02:37The Mexican government reiterates its unwavering commitment to the protection and defense of the
02:46human rights of Mexicans living overseas regardless of their immigration status. In this sense, we make a
02:52respectful but firm call to United States authorities for all immigration procedures to be carried out in
02:58adherence to due process within a framework of the rule of law.
03:05In a framework of respect to human dignity and the state of the United States.
03:21Mexican authorities declared high alert on the southwest of the Mexican Pacific as a result of
03:27Depression 3E, turned Sunday into Tropical Storm COSME. The National
03:32Meteorological System informed that COSME is located around 935 kilometers
03:37southwest of Perula Beach in Jalisco and 75 kilometers south of the San Lucas
03:44Cave, Baja California. Experts forecasted that the precipitation associated with
03:49the phenomenon would generate landslides, heavy rainfalls, growing river flows and
03:54flooding in low-lying areas. Therefore, authorities urge the population to be
03:59alert to possible changes triggered by the storm and to follow the indications
04:04of civil protection.
04:10The Permanent Contingency Commission of Honduras, COPECO, reported Sunday the
04:15arrival of tropical wave to the country which will significantly affect weather
04:20conditions in the Central American region. COPECO forecasted that heavy
04:24rains, cast cloudiness and scattered thunderstorms were likely to occur in
04:29the upcoming hours. The most hit areas will be the southwest, southeast, center
04:35and north of the country. In view of this scenario, authorities called on the
04:39population to follow official recommendations, avoid crossing rivers or
04:44flooded streams, have a family emergency plan and maintain constant communication
04:49with competent authorities in case of any incidents.
04:58The Oceans Summit has started in Nice, southeastern France, a historic meeting that
05:03seeks the promulgation of the High Seas Treaty approved in 2023. Numerous world leaders have
05:09confirmed their attendance this Monday as 115 countries are meeting to discuss such pressing
05:16issues as global warming, pollution and the destruction of biodiversity as well as
05:21the opportunities for recovery. Several countries are expected to announce, among other vital issues, the
05:27creation of new marine conservation zones within their national waters. However, the
05:34focus of the day is the enactment of the High Seas Treaty, a legally binding
05:39instrument for the conservation and sustainable use of marine biological diversity of areas
05:45beyond national jurisdiction.
05:56By embracing multilateralism, we were able to resolve differences that once seemed insurmountable.
06:02Now we are seeing hanging over the ocean the threat of unilateralism, we cannot allow what happened
06:18to international trade where rules were eroded to the point of rendering the WTO inoperative
06:23to happen to the sea. Preventing the oceans from becoming the stage for geopolitical disputes
06:36is an urgent task in building peace. Channels, gulfs, and straits should bring us closer together,
06:43not be a cause for discord.

08:20Party of Venezuela, Dios del Cabello. Chinese officials' visit is focused on consolidating the
08:26all-weather strategic partnership signed by both governments in 2023. Currently, Venezuela and
08:32China have implemented over 600 cooperation deals in key sectors such as energy technology,
08:38infrastructure and social development.
08:46The Colombian government ordered increased security for the country's political leaders following the
08:51assassination attempt on presidential pre-candidate Miguel Uribe. President Gustavo Petro held a meeting
08:57with the country's police officials to discuss new measures to guarantee the safety of the opposition.
09:02On Monday, high-level meetings are expected to continue to define security strategies for all political
09:09actors in the country amid investigations to identify the perpetrators of the attack against Miguel Uribe.
09:15The Colombian president will also hold a meeting with the Electoral Guarantees Commission,
09:20members of the government and various political parties in a call to establish a peace plan.
09:30Also in Colombia, the Attorney General's office will charge a 14-year-old teenager with the attempted
09:35murder and illegal possession of firearms after shooting presidential pre-candidate Miguel Uribe.
09:41The arrest was legalized by a judge and the case is moving forward under the juvenile criminal
09:47responsibility system. Although he cannot be sent to a regular prison, he could face up to eight
09:53years of imprisonment in a specialized care center. At the same time, the investigation continues with
09:58raids on family members' homes and review of videos of the political rally where the attack occurred.
10:05Authorities are seeking to establish the involvement of others as well as the motives behind the incident.
10:11In the meantime, health authorities reported that the political leader remains in critical
10:24condition. According to the report, Uribe has responded poorly to medical interventions and
10:29treatments. However, doctors emphasized that they will not cease the effort necessary to ensure his
10:35recovery. At this time, the prognosis for Miguel Uribe's health remains unclear and his condition is extremely serious.
10:51In other news, on Monday, Brazil's Supreme Federal Court begins questioning key figures in an attempted
10:56coup, including former President Haid Bolsonaro and seven other members of his government. The hearing
11:03are to be held in person at the court's headquarters in Brasilia, except for that of General Walter
11:09Braganeto, whom he will appear via videoconference owing to his pretrial detention. The first to be
11:16questioned will be Mauro Cid, a key figure in the investigation, after providing documents and
11:22testimony that directly implicate former President Bolsonaro. The defendants have the constitutional right
11:28to testify or remain silent. Once the proceedings conclude, the judge will prepare a detailed report
11:34on the cause and issue a ruling.
11:42In Lima, the Peruvian police caught former President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski at the George
11:47Jorge Chávez International Airport while he was trying to flee to the United States. In this context,
11:53the former head of state is being investigated for alleged money laundering in the Odebrecht case.
11:59The attempted getaway occurred a few hours earlier in a key judicial hearing started,
12:06where they would assess the prosecutor's request to impose him a new impediment to leave the country.
12:12The public prosecutor's office argued that he might run away due to the previous judicial
12:17restrictions expired. Meanwhile, Kuczynski's lawyer justified that the trip was for personal and
12:23health reasons, specifically to visit his wife, whom he had not seen for seven years,

13:08Israeli troops killed at least 12 people and wounded others in shootings near to eight distribution
13:28points in Rafah's southern Gaza Strip. A statement issued by the Gaza Health Authorities on Sunday also
13:34reported that at least 41 Palestinians had been killed in the Israeli military operations since
13:40early morning of that day. Munir Al-Burj, Director General of the Health Authorities in Gaza, said on
13:47Sunday that the healthcare system is on the brink of collapse, overwhelmed by Israel's continued military
13:53strikes and blockade. Since the escalation of the Israeli aggression as of October 7, 2023,
14:00approximately 54,088 Palestinians have been killed by Israel.
14:11They opened aid sites for people and then they killed them there. We don't want aid,
14:15we don't want anything. We'd rather be killed and done with this whole thing. We are fed up with this
14:21life. Yesterday, we buried for martyrs and another one today for a piece of bread, nothing more. He was not
14:27there to resist or to launch missiles. He went to get flour. Every time there's a food distribution
14:35channel open, people present with gunshot wounds, mainly to the head and neck. Yesterday, food aid
14:44distribution was open. I myself was in attendance when seven cases of direct headshots
14:51movements from food aid distribution presented, six of whom were intubated, three of whom were children.
15:02A humanitarian convoy named Maghreb's Resolve departed from Tunisia with thousands of volunteers to demand
15:09an end to the genocide and for humanitarian aid to be allowed into the entire Gaza Strip.
15:14This Monday, the caravans set off the Palestinian enclave to try to break the blockade. They will
15:20cross Libya and Egypt on their way to the Rafah border crossing to deliver humanitarian aid.
15:26Over 7,000 volunteers from Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Mauritania and Egypt take part in this
15:33humanitarian action. The initiative also supports the Freedom Flotilla seized by Zionist forces.
15:39The international committed to break the siege of the Gaza Strip called for more help and about 30
15:44countries in Europe, South America and Southeast Asia will answer the call.
15:55The Israeli occupation navy boarded the ship Madeleine and kidnapped its crew and activists
16:01carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza. The boat, launched by the Freedom Flotilla coalition, was sailing
16:07through the Mediterranean Sea with humanitarian aid for the Gaza Strip when it was intercepted
16:12some 185 kilometers from the Palestinian enclave by Israeli speedboats. The Zionist regime's navy raided
16:20the ship, ordering the crew to throw their mobile phones into the sea and abducting all on board.
16:26According to the Tel Aviv's foreign ministry, the crew is being taken to the Israeli port of Ashdod,
16:32where they are expected to be deported to their respective countries.
16:42Members of the Freedom Fleet ship Madeleine are still kidnapped by the Israeli regime,
16:46after the occupation forces besieged and assaulted them. Following the terrorist
16:50encouragement, previously recorded crew members' videos were released requesting the immediate
16:55involvement of their governments and parliaments.
16:58The Palestinian resistance movement, Hamas condemned the hijacking of the humanitarian
17:27flotilla bound for Gaza and held Israel responsible for the safety of the activists on board.
17:34In statements, the Palestinian group urged the United Nations and international organizations
17:38not only to condemn this kidnapping, but also to take action against Israel for its continued rights
17:44violations in Palestine. Hamas reaffirmed support for these activists who have remained firm
17:50in their solidarity with the Palestinian cause, despite threats from the occupation. Hamas emphasized that
17:57these actions confirmed that Gaza is not alone.
18:07The United Nations Special Reporter for the Occupied Territories, Francesca Albanese, urged the UK
18:13government to seek guarantees from the Israeli authorities for the crew of the Freedom Fleet.
18:18The Madeleine ship sailed under the British flag, which is why the reporter is asking Kurt Starmer's
18:24government to guarantee the release of the 12 crew members. She also calls for the flotilla to
18:29complete its mission, as Israel has no authority over Gaza. The crew members of the flotilla remain
18:36kidnapped by the Israeli government and its Defense Minister Israel Katz said on Monday that they will
18:42all have to watch a video from October 7, 2023.
19:00The Russian Defense Ministry reported that its air defense systems shut down 49 Ukrainian drones in the
19:06last 24 hours over seven regions of the country. The action included areas far from the front lines,
19:13such as Nizhny Novgorod and the Republic of Shuvastia. In the latter, two drones struck an industrial plant
19:21without causing any casualties, but forced operations to be suspended. Due to the incidents,
19:26several airports temporarily suspended flights for safety reasons. In this regard, Russian authorities
19:32reported sustained increasing Ukrainian drone attacks against energy, industrial and military
19:37infrastructure in border areas and in the interior of the country.
19:47On Monday, the first group of Russian servicemen aged under 25 were freed in accordance with the
19:53agreements reached in Istanbul between the nation and Ukraine. The Russian Defense Ministry informed
19:59of the operation stating that the servicemen were released from an area controlled by the Kyiv regime
20:05and are currently in Belarus, where they are being given the necessary psychological and medical
20:10assistance prior to the return to Russia. In addition, the authority unveiled it had transferred a
20:16similar number of Ukrainian prisoners of war. Moscow and Kyiv agreed on a larger exchange of prisoners
20:23during the second round of negotiations held in Istanbul, Turkey on June 2nd.
