In Bristol and across the West Country, our men's health tells a clear story.
00:05
According to the latest Joint Strategic Needs Assessment, men in Bristol live around 78.9 years, just under the England average.
00:13
At age 65, local men typically live another 18.5 years, compared to the 18.8 nationally.
00:20
That gap shows challenges around early illness and health inequality.
00:24
In deprived parts of Bristol, men live nearly 10 years fewer than those in affluent wards.
00:28
Our rates of preventable illness are high, cancer and respiratory disease deaths exceed national averages,
00:35
and male alcohol-related hospital admissions remain significantly elevated.
00:39
Suicide is also a critical concern, at around 18 male deaths per 100,000, higher than the England male average.
00:47
Experts say Bristol needs locally targeted screening programs, mental health services and community well-being hubs.
00:53
As the national men's health call for evidence begins, local action can make a national strategy truly count.
