00:00:00Welcome back, everyone, to the Potosito Podcast.
00:00:25I'm your host, The Real Forces Nine.
00:00:27Let's just jump right into it.
00:00:28Today, we're talking about What Happens in Vegas Stays in Vegas,
00:00:32a.k.a. Season 1, Episode 2 of yours and mine,
00:00:35one of yours and my favorite TV shows, The Incomparable Las Vegas.
00:00:40This one aired September 29, 2003, directed by Michael W. Watkins,
00:00:46written by Gary Scott Thompson, which is pretty standard for a lot of TV shows.
00:00:51Usually the head writer, the creator, the person in charge
00:00:54usually is at the helm of the first few episodes to get the ball rolling.
00:00:57This episode is a fairly good one.
00:01:02There's a couple of things that I think we're missing a bit from it,
00:01:05but part of that is just front of the series pains that they had to go through.
00:01:11As we get started watching the episode,
00:01:15we see a fly land on a golf ball that gets swung by some drunk golfers.
00:01:19These drunk golfers are going to take us right to the start of the episode,
00:01:23but also right back to the end of the last episode.
00:01:26If you remember, there was a dead body in the desert at the end of the pilot episode.
00:01:34Remember when I said that you were made to think back to that dead body as you watch,
00:01:41because that was the one storyline that didn't get tied up?
00:01:43Well, it's getting tied up today.
00:01:46The golfers find their golf balls in this...
00:01:50It's not a golf course.
00:01:51I don't know what this is.
00:01:52I don't know.
00:01:52Was it supposed to be an old golf course or something?
00:01:55I'm not sure.
00:01:56Either way, one of the golf balls rolls onto a dead body,
00:02:00and the golfers scurry away.
00:02:02Then we zoom to the Montecito Jet,
00:02:04where we see Danny opening up the door for somebody who you could tell on his face,
00:02:11eh, he's not the usual chipper Danny here.
00:02:17Now, some people may recognize this guy.
00:02:20I recognized him, but I didn't quite know exactly where.
00:02:23Here's where you recognize him from.
00:02:24Absolutely everywhere.
00:02:26He has been in a bunch of things.
00:02:28His name is Daniel Hugh Kelly.
00:02:30And now, Daniel Hugh Kelly has been in a whole lot of things that you have seen,
00:02:35including, but not limited to, All My Children, early on in his career.
00:02:39Thin Ice, a TV movie.
00:02:40He was in Ryan's Hope, which was a long-running soap opera.
00:02:45He was on there for 491 episodes, for goodness sakes.
00:02:50He then transferred to Chicago Story for 13 episodes.
00:02:52He was in Cujo.
00:02:53He was in Cujo.
00:02:56That movie put a fear of dogs in quite a few people.
00:02:59He was in I Married Dora, which did not put a fear of maids into a lot of people.
00:03:03I Married Dora was definitely a product of the 80s.
00:03:07It was a show that could only have lived and or survived in the 80s.
00:03:12He was also in The Good Son.
00:03:14You may have seen him in.
00:03:15You may have seen him in Five Desperate Hours, Labor of Love, Oh Baby,
00:03:20which is two baby movies, basically back-to-back in 1998.
00:03:25He was also in The Outer Limits.
00:03:27I think I may have seen him in that, actually.
00:03:29That may be where I recognize him from, for the most part.
00:03:32He was also in The West Wing.
00:03:34He was in SVU.
00:03:36The regular Law & Order is a completely different person,
00:03:38which is standard for Law & Order.
00:03:40He was in Boston Legal, one of my other favorite shows.
00:03:42I love Boston Legal, despite all the faults on that show.
00:03:46Code Case, Law & Order, LA as somebody else again.
00:03:49The Mentalist, you may have seen him on.
00:03:51His latest credit as of right now is in 2021 and far more.
00:03:57But Daniel Hugh Kelly is playing Senator William Bill Percy Henderson.
00:04:01Senator Henderson is a throwback to, well, there was sort of an epidemic in the mid-2000s or so
00:04:14when this episode came out of, this isn't going to be political,
00:04:19but of staunch right-wing personalities who gained vast popularity
00:04:26and immense followings preaching about the morals of the country at the time
00:04:33and how it was under decay.
00:04:35Particularly after 9-11, they got a lot of footholds on various bits of media,
00:04:41whether they'd be preachers, whether they'd be politicians,
00:04:43whether they'd just be pundits.
00:04:44Not all, but a lot of them came out with secret love affairs that they would preach against,
00:04:50sexualities that they preached against,
00:04:52different moral issues that they themselves preached against.
00:04:57Now, one could say, and I have heard, I've heard this from a preacher himself
00:05:01who said that a lot of times preachers are preaching to themselves,
00:05:05but also these people knew exactly what they were doing.
00:05:08These people were guilty as sin, a lot of them,
00:05:12and it wasn't a secret that a lot of them were guilty.
00:05:16They just were.
00:05:17And this is a microcosm of that.
00:05:21Bill Henderson comes across the lovely Vanessa Marcille
00:05:26sprouting her blonde look in this episode.
00:05:30I'm not sure how many more episodes she's going to be blonde.
00:05:33I think there was a role that she was doing at the same time,
00:05:36or they hadn't changed her here to the natural black just yet.
00:05:40Either way, Blonde Sam shows up on a lot of early promotional material for Las Vegas,
00:05:45including the DVD cover.
00:05:47But we get Blonde Sam here.
00:05:49I prefer Dark Hair Sam.
00:05:50Blonde Hair Sam says that she's going to punch the senator if he touches her.
00:05:56Ed says no, he's not.
00:05:57There's something going on here with the senator we don't quite know yet.
00:06:02Oh, one thing I forgot to touch on.
00:06:04Let's talk about this.
00:06:05As we get started, in the desert,
00:06:07you know how I love to talk about the different sounds that we hear, the different songs that we hear.
00:06:15The first song that we hear in the desert, depending on what version you're watching.
00:06:22We either hear Keep It Coming by Uncle Cracker, which came across my desk by a version that may or may not have been on either Peacock or the DVDs.
00:06:35I can't tell you where it came from.
00:06:37There just happens to be a version out there with Keep It Coming from Uncle...
00:06:42Yes, you heard me right, kids.
00:06:43Uncle Cracker.
00:06:44Ask your parents about Uncle Cracker.
00:06:47He's on one of the versions of the first song that you hear.
00:06:49The song that comes up on the DVD is probably a production track.
00:06:53I can't track it.
00:06:54The other one on Peacock is surprisingly not a production song.
00:07:03It's called Swagger, which is a song by Christopher Harris, David John Walker, and Ty Frankel.
00:07:10So we have at least three different versions of the first song that comes up.
00:07:15I don't know why there are three different versions.
00:07:18Rights issues are just insane.
00:07:22Anyway, the credits play, and we get to see the Surf Championships.
00:07:30We get to see people come up on surfboards.
00:07:33We get to see hard-bodied extras sitting by a wave pool.
00:07:37We get to see Mary sort of running things here at the Desert Surfing Championships.
00:07:43Oh my, the Desert Surfing Championships.
00:07:45Well, here we go again with the music.
00:07:49The music that we see at the Desert Surfing Championship.
00:07:51If you're watching on a copy that, I don't know where you got it from.
00:07:55You shouldn't have gotten that copy.
00:07:57I don't know where you would have gotten that copy from.
00:07:59But if you're looking on that particular copy, you hear Wipeout.
00:08:04If you don't know the song Wipeout, I don't know how old you are.
00:08:07Are you 10?
00:08:08Now, you don't know the version.
00:08:09You don't know Wipeout.
00:08:10It's Wipeout.
00:08:14It's a version of Wipeout.
00:08:16That's probably all I can play without getting the feds down my throat.
00:08:20If you're watching on Peacock, you hear a song called Twist and Shout by Benoit Medrakowski.
00:08:29I can't believe I said that.
00:08:30And Eric Starkson.
00:08:35I'm going to count that as a win because that's S-T-A-R-C-Z-A-N.
00:08:43So, I'm going to count that.
00:08:44I'm not going to pronounce it again, but I'm going to count that.
00:08:46And on the DVD version, I believe we get Silver Coast by the Insect Surfers.
00:08:52That's a great band name, actually.
00:08:54The Insect Surfers.
00:08:55Anyway, Silver Coast by the Insect Surfers is the song that we hear right here.
00:09:00Rights issues, man.
00:09:01Rights issues.
00:09:01Anyway, Mary is conducting business here at the Wave Pool with the Desert Surf Championships.
00:09:07Broadcast, of course, on NBC Sports because why wouldn't it be?
00:09:11Because Las Vegas is on NBC.
00:09:14And we get a lovely aerial shot of Mary and her smile and just the beauty.
00:09:21And we see Danny basically leering at Mary.
00:09:26Now, kids, once again, anyone who is on Team Dairy, who's shipping Team Dairy, that is Danny
00:09:36and Mary for those uninitiated, the very first thing we see Danny do in this episode after
00:09:42the credits is leering at who is staring at the beauty of whom.
00:09:48Hmm, that's going to come up in just a couple minutes.
00:09:53We're going to talk about why that's important in just a couple minutes.
00:09:55But we also get the very first Mitch sighting.
00:10:00Let me tell you about this guy, Mitch Longley.
00:10:04Mitch is going to be a regular on the show.
00:10:07You're going to come to really love Mitch.
00:10:11Mitch is a great character.
00:10:13And from what I hear, a great guy.
00:10:16First off, let's talk about his acting credits.
00:10:17Mitch started on Soap Operas.
00:10:22He was on Another World for about 16 episodes.
00:10:25He was on General Hospital for a few episodes.
00:10:28He was on Port Charles for 375 episodes.
00:10:35He was on Port Charles for more episodes than there are in a year.
00:10:40Judging Amy, Joan of Arcadia, Bones.
00:10:44I'm pretty sure I watched Bones.
00:10:46I'm pretty sure I saw him on Bones.
00:10:47Sharks, Weeds, Las Vegas, of course, for 63 episodes.
00:10:52Desperate Housewives, Law & Order, NCIS, Los Angeles.
00:10:57The last credited thing I see him on is a short called Shit Face in 2016.
00:11:02So, apparently, he hasn't been doing much acting since then.
00:11:06But let's talk about the life of Mitch Longley.
00:11:11Mitch, as you will see in this episode if you look at certain shots and in later episodes, Mitch is in a wheelchair.
00:11:17Mitch is a paraplegic.
00:11:18He was in a car crash when he was about 17 years old.
00:11:23And in that car crash, he suffered a spinal injury.
00:11:27While in rehabilitation, he graduated from high school and walked with the aid of braces on graduation day, accepting his diploma.
00:11:35He was voted friendliest, best looking, and nicest smile during his high school years.
00:11:41That's not all.
00:11:42He then goes on to become an actor.
00:11:46The credits I just mentioned.
00:11:48For a while, he spent time traveling to places far and wide from everywhere from Denver to Cairo, Egypt.
00:11:54After graduating in 1989, he returned to his hometown in Connecticut.
00:11:58In 1990, through a friend, he was able to meet the famed fashion photographer Bruce Weber.
00:12:03Mitch subsequently met designer Ralph Lauren
00:12:05and was hired by Lauren to be a fashion model in his ad campaigns.
00:12:13Are you nuts?
00:12:14Are you kidding?
00:12:15Are you kidding?
00:12:16And he is the founder of the nonprofit organization SOWOHO,
00:12:22Spirit of the Wounded Horse,
00:12:24which helps underprivileged Native Americans with physical disabilities.
00:12:27Why?
00:12:27Because he is a Native American with physical disabilities.
00:12:30And it is a great cause.
00:12:32Mitch Longley, ladies and gentlemen,
00:12:33he is just, oh, just, just, he's,
00:12:38listen, as a fan of Las Vegas, he's one of our favorite side characters.
00:12:42He's one of the first side characters that a lot of people really took to.
00:12:46In the second episode, the first time we see him, the second episode,
00:12:49like his, his sort of charm, his wit, his repartee with everyone in the surveillance room,
00:12:55it clicks.
00:12:55It works.
00:12:56It works.
00:12:56He's got a natural charm to him and it just shines on screen.
00:12:59So Danny is leering at Mary and in comes Ed, who is staring at a shot of Delinda
00:13:07over by the wave pool in a bikini.
00:13:10And he is mad.
00:13:11He is angry.
00:13:13He says, you let it go out like that.
00:13:16Look what the hell she's wearing.
00:13:17You're not wearing.
00:13:18Now here's the important thing that we want to talk about when we're talking about these
00:13:23shippers.
00:13:24Danny had a shot of Delinda by the pool in a bikini, in a lounge chair.
00:13:30And who was he looking at?
00:13:33Who was he actually spending time to look at, to, I don't, I wouldn't say leer.
00:13:39I would say admire.
00:13:42Why, it was Mary, of course.
00:13:44It wasn't Delinda.
00:13:47It's almost as if he actually was in love with Mary.
00:13:54Doesn't it seem like that?
00:13:57Hmm.
00:13:59Anyway, now Danny's leering at Delinda, but Ed has him focused again.
00:14:04Now the focus is back on Senator Henderson, who is in casual clothes, sunglasses, playing
00:14:11in a private slot area.
00:14:13We're trying to keep the senator sort of hidden on this trip in Las Vegas because he is a hypocrite.
00:14:21And Danny gives an exhibition that's supposed to sort of give us the backstory on this guy.
00:14:27But we kind of, in 2003, already know the backstory on this guy because, like I mentioned, in 2003,
00:14:32we had already seen a few of these guys.
00:14:36And we're going to see a few more.
00:14:38In a very short period of time, we're going to see a few more.
00:14:41Enter King Arthur, who is in the valet on a horse in full battle array and armor.
00:14:47This is the part of the surveillance room that actually works, especially in the early seasons.
00:14:51We get to see King Arthur and we get to see our reporter, Aaron Walker.
00:14:54We'll get back to King Arthur in a second.
00:14:56But let's talk about Aaron Walker.
00:14:57The reporter, Aaron Walker, is played by veteran actor Jack Keller, who unfortunately passed
00:15:04away in 2022.
00:15:06Jack Keller was another guy who was around for a long time.
00:15:10And he played a lot of sort of skeezy-ish characters, depending on who you ask.
00:15:18The reporter, to me, wasn't really skeevy.
00:15:20Like, I guess they kind of tried to make him seem like an almost bad guy.
00:15:24But he's not a bad guy, because he's doing his job.
00:15:27He's doing what he was supposed to be doing, actually.
00:15:28So Jack's first credit is in 1983, where he was in Strange Invaders.
00:15:34He then goes on to Year of the Dragon, Hill Street Blues, Fresno, Hunter, the TV show Hunter,
00:15:39Cagney and Lacey.
00:15:40He does a couple of New Heart episodes, an L.A. Law episode, Glory Days, Dragnet, The Last
00:15:47Boy Scout, Point Break he was in.
00:15:50He was in Night Court.
00:15:51I think I remember him in Night Court.
00:15:53Tales from the Crypt, Blindsided, Cops and Robbersons, The John Larroquette Show.
00:15:58He was in a bunch of stuff.
00:16:01187, Murder One, Let's See, Lethal Weapon 4 he was in.
00:16:06Forces of Nature, Jag, Becker, Seventh Heaven, NYPD Blue, Las Vegas, like I mentioned.
00:16:12And we are only maybe halfway through his IMDb.
00:16:15His last credit was in 2022.
00:16:18It was Father Stu.
00:16:20He was in Men in Black 2.
00:16:21Jack Keller was in a lot of stuff.
00:16:22We see him.
00:16:23Here's Aaron Walker, a reporter.
00:16:25Aaron Walker more than likely is based off of the real-life gossip columnist Mike Walker,
00:16:30who rose to popularity in the 90s when he wrote a number one New York Times bestseller about O.J. Simpson and Nicole Brown Simpson.
00:16:39He was on the Howard Stern Show frequently.
00:16:41I first heard about him when he would be a frequent guest on the Tom Likas Show.
00:16:45He also had a weekly radio show on KABC out here in Los Angeles.
00:16:51He unfortunately passed away in 2018, but he was a pretty famous gossip columnist and brought a lot of attention to how the National Enquirer actually works versus the public persona of them.
00:17:03For a while, at least while he was writing for the National Enquirer, really got a lot of stories right that we didn't want to assume was right.
00:17:14And they kind of had to because they were constantly on the receiving end of lawsuits, which they won most of because they were right.
00:17:23So that sort of enhances my idea that Aaron Walker here in this episode of Las Vegas isn't the bad guy.
00:17:32He's just the guy doing the dirty work that really needs to and should be done.
00:17:38We see him with the first time we actually see some tech that looks like it actually existed in 2003.
00:17:46Like that stupid radar or RFD thing that they had Danny walk around the pilot in was ridiculous.
00:17:57But we see Aaron Walker with a good camera.
00:18:00We see Ed with a good sort of camera device on.
00:18:03We see a good flip phone by Danny that is very Danny.
00:18:07Silver and blue, that's a very Danny thing.
00:18:09And we see Aaron Walker in the corner and he's got a good shot.
00:18:13He's got a good shot at the senator.
00:18:14It's too late.
00:18:15He's got a good shot at the senator already.
00:18:17And here comes security to try to take Aaron Walker down.
00:18:21Now, again, we're kind of supposed to think that the reporter is bad.
00:18:25I think they say that he's from the National Enquirer or two or something like that.
00:18:28Like it's eh.
00:18:29Eh.
00:18:31He's doing his job.
00:18:32And he's supposed to be doing his job.
00:18:34This is the second time, by the way, when the reporter is brought backstage to the hallways
00:18:39where what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas is said in like five minutes.
00:18:42The drunk guy say it at the golf course as well.
00:18:45Behind them, there is a sign that says, please do not hit the walls.
00:18:51They can't hit back.
00:18:53I mean, I guess they can't.
00:18:56Who's hitting walls?
00:18:57Why is that sign there?
00:18:58Was it just to break the monotony?
00:18:59It was probably as a cinematographer to break the monotony.
00:19:03And they kind of figured that they needed some color in this scene, something different.
00:19:06Like it probably just looked weird the way they had it.
00:19:10And so instead of putting another danger sign, they just put that sign up.
00:19:15Ed Walker.
00:19:15Ed Walker.
00:19:16Aaron Walker is told by Ed to just kind of, you know, leave town.
00:19:21You know, just don't show your face around the Montecito.
00:19:24All of our guests are afforded some form of privacy on the premises, you see.
00:19:30So you're saying Senator Henderson is a guest?
00:19:36No comment?
00:19:38What happens in Vegas?
00:19:40Scored Mr. Walker out of the casino, off the property.
00:19:43Let's let the dealer shuffle the deck for a second and we'll be right back.
00:19:45You're listening to Bunda Swing by 1989 TRE.
00:19:59If you like what you're hearing and want to hear more, hear it again, or both,
00:20:03just go to Spotify and search 1989 TRE, all one word.
00:20:08That's 1989, the letters T-R-E.
00:20:12Tequila, more memories needed.
00:20:15We're going to live in the moment, como esta noche para siempre.
00:20:19My life is crazy, just like a movie scene.
00:20:23I've been so many places and seen beautiful things,
00:20:26but my mind is captured by this beautiful queen.
00:20:31Whose dances got me.
00:20:33So Ed tells him to get out of town.
00:20:36Aaron Walker gets out of the casino.
00:20:37And Ed is brought into the casino where King Arthur is leading a procession of guests
00:20:46and Mary is trying to wrangle him.
00:20:49Now, King Arthur is played by Gildart Jackson.
00:20:55That's a name, ain't it?
00:20:56Gildart Jackson?
00:20:59Gildart?
00:21:01Gildart Jackson?
00:21:04Incredible.
00:21:05Anyway, Gildart Jackson is an actor whose first credit actually has something to do with Las Vegas.
00:21:10Larson's of Las Vegas is the first thing he was in in 1995.
00:21:14It was a TV movie.
00:21:15He was also in VIP, The Pamela Anderson Show, General Hospital for 77 episodes.
00:21:21Las Vegas liked to hire soap opera actors.
00:21:24Vanessa Marcello was in a soap opera.
00:21:26Josh Duhamel was in a soap opera.
00:21:27They liked to hire soap opera actors.
00:21:29He was in Helsing for two episodes, Boomtown, Las Vegas.
00:21:33He then moved on to CSI.
00:21:35He was in Charmed for seven episodes as Gideon.
00:21:38You may remember him if you watched Charmed.
00:21:40He was in The Suite Life.
00:21:41On Deck back in 2009.
00:21:43He was on Hannah Montana.
00:21:45He did Burn Notice for an episode.
00:21:49Helsing Unlimited.
00:21:51He was on there for eight episodes.
00:21:53He got himself a nice little semi-steady gig.
00:21:55I think the last known credit that I have for him after NCIS LA looks like he did something
00:22:02this year, Rebel Moon Part 2, The Scargiver.
00:22:06Before that, he was in Unicorn, Gotham Knights.
00:22:09He was on there for an episode.
00:22:10So he's done some stuff.
00:22:11Actually, Gotham Knights, he was the voice of Alfred Pennyworth on the video game version
00:22:17and Court Magistrate on the TV series.
00:22:21So he's still hanging around.
00:22:24He's still doing some stuff.
00:22:24I like him in this role.
00:22:27This role is great.
00:22:29The crazed actor who's taking the role a bit too seriously.
00:22:33I like King Arthur on this show.
00:22:35On this episode, I like him in this role.
00:22:38He suddenly gives everybody nicknames.
00:22:40Ed is Merlin.
00:22:41Danny is Lancelot.
00:22:43Nessa is...
00:22:43Lady Gwynnevere.
00:22:47My love.
00:22:49My life.
00:22:52Merlin.
00:22:53Serenade.
00:22:55We come to the couple from The Sticks.
00:23:00Let's start with the wife.
00:23:04Suzy Benkin is the character's name.
00:23:08The actress's name is Cheryl White.
00:23:10Cheryl White, her first credit starts off in 2000 on Family Law.
00:23:16She then goes on to play on The X-Files, Angel for an episode, Will and Grace, That 70s Show, NYPD Blue, Drew Carey Show, Strong Medicine.
00:23:27She's done a couple episodes of The Practice.
00:23:29Love The Practice.
00:23:29The Practice is a great show.
00:23:30She was Miss Hempsel on Scrubs in 2004.
00:23:34Love Scrubs.
00:23:35Oh my God.
00:23:35There's a show I like more than Las Vegas is Scrubs.
00:23:38Scrubs is an incredible show.
00:23:39She was in Two and a Half Men.
00:23:42She was also in Boston Legal.
00:23:44Jag, Seventh Heaven.
00:23:45She's followed the same trajectory as one of our other guest stars.
00:23:49NCIS, Book of Daniel, I, State of Mind, K-Ville, Criminal Minds.
00:23:55Let's see.
00:23:55The Mentalist, True Blood, Lie to Me.
00:23:58Lie to Me was an underrated show.
00:23:59Lie to Me was a good show.
00:24:01It wasn't the best show, but it was a good show.
00:24:03Her last credits are Truth Be Told, a TV series, and The Good Doctor in 2019.
00:24:09She plays this role very well.
00:24:11Now, part of me is, even with them kind of being from the sticks, I'm like, and the way
00:24:17they kind of dress them and lit them and all this other stuff, I'm still kind of thinking
00:24:20like, what's she doing with this big galoot?
00:24:22Like, why is she with him?
00:24:24Like, she could kind of do better.
00:24:26Like, he kind of shot out of his league.
00:24:27She could kind of do better.
00:24:28But, sure, she plays the hell out of this role.
00:24:33Now, the guy who plays her husband is the character's name, Stevie Benkin.
00:24:43The actor's name is Stoney Westmoreland.
00:24:52Stoney Westmoreland has a lot of credits to his name.
00:24:58His first credit was on the show Townies in 96, News Radio.
00:25:05He was in the Godzilla movie in 98, Two Guys to Grow in a Pizza Place, Star Trek Voyager,
00:25:12The Job.
00:25:14Oh, yeah, that's Dennis Leary show.
00:25:16Matchstick Men, Wonderful World at Disney, Rodney, Crossing Jordan.
00:25:21Not as the same character, even though Crossing Jordan and Las Vegas are in the same universe.
00:25:25We'll get to that when we get to that.
00:25:26CSI Miami, Bones, NCIS, Medium, Common Law, Weeds, NCIS Los Angeles, Scandal, Rizzoli and Isles, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in 2015.
00:25:38He was in War Dogs.
00:25:42He was in Stryvers in 2018.
00:25:48And he's probably most well known as Ham Mack on the Disney Channel show Andy Mack.
00:25:59Now, why does this sound familiar?
00:26:02Well, Stoney Westmoreland was sentenced to two years in prison following an underaged, we'll just call it a Chris Hansen event.
00:26:20And that's as far into that story as this podcast is going to go.
00:26:27As far as the character is concerned, they are the stereotypical out-of-towners.
00:26:34They are giving Mary their sort of life story.
00:26:37Meanwhile, the reporter is still standing there.
00:26:39Just sort of watching the whole thing go down.
00:26:42While King Arthur is entertaining, is holding, literally holding court in the middle of the casino.
00:26:51And Ed is trying to sort of ascertain the situation.
00:26:54Mary is trying to calm everything down.
00:26:57And she has, she's losing her mind with this guy who's supposed to be playing King Arthur in a stage show here on the property.
00:27:07I don't know how this goes on to actually hit the stage.
00:27:16Other than all the publicity that he's gathering up right now.
00:27:20Probably the box office is going nuts.
00:27:22And that's how the show gets to keep going on.
00:27:25However, realistically, especially because Nessa is in the pit, they're not going to let this go down.
00:27:37They're not going to let him in the pit, holding her hand, trying to woo her.
00:27:42Now, as he's doing this, though, we see somebody trying to pick the pocket of Mrs. Benkin.
00:27:51That man is an actor by the name of Michael Giordani.
00:27:55Now, Michael really doesn't have that many credits to his IMDb.
00:27:59He has a few stunt credits.
00:28:00And one of his, this is like the middle credit that he has as an actor.
00:28:04He is pit pocket in Las Vegas on this episode.
00:28:07He then goes on to do Alias.
00:28:09And his last known credit as an actor is on a short called Vanished in 2012.
00:28:14As a stunt guy is on Call of Duty Ghosts.
00:28:17As a stunt performer, stunt motion capture performer.
00:28:20He picks the pocket of Mrs. Benkin.
00:28:22Which leads to, in my opinion, one of the greatest line reads of the entire series.
00:28:32You will return the maiden's belongings to him and beg forgiveness on your knees or die by my song.
00:28:43Not only is it a great line read, but it really does sort of get across in a very short period of time
00:28:49how good an actor this guy really is.
00:28:53So the bit kids don't know what happened.
00:28:55They all think it's a part of a stunt.
00:28:56Ed, of course, covering bases, comps their stay and says,
00:29:00if there's anything you need, just ask.
00:29:02Don't tell that to Mr. Benkin anyway.
00:29:04But if there's anything that you need, just ask, says Ed.
00:29:08And the Benkins are just in love with it.
00:29:12Mr. Benkin keeps talking about how Vegas is better than Branson because the wife wanted to go to Branson.
00:29:17He is a PSA for Las Vegas on this episode.
00:29:21Which probably helped with the production of the show in general because if one of them saw this episode,
00:29:27they would see stuff like that, characters like that, which helped put over the mystique, the magic of Las Vegas.
00:29:35We cut back to Senator Henderson in his room.
00:29:38Ed warns the Senator, please do not go out on this trip to Vegas.
00:29:43We want you to stay in on this trip to Vegas.
00:29:47Please do not go out.
00:29:48There's a lot of press here.
00:29:50It's hard to control this one reporter who really has it in for you.
00:29:55Please do not go out on this trip to Vegas.
00:29:58Now, Henderson still wants to go out.
00:30:02Henderson still wants to do stuff.
00:30:05He can't just stay in like a high roller suite.
00:30:07I know that a lot of people, a lot of times, especially with like celebrities, they give them the treatment where they don't really have to be seen.
00:30:15But Henderson wants to go out and about.
00:30:17He wants to mingle.
00:30:18He wants to live Las Vegas up.
00:30:21So Ed tells Sam to get him a disguise, a good one.
00:30:25And then we cut to yet another reading of what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.
00:30:31Now, of all the readings, this is easily the best one because you could tell like he is acting.
00:30:36He is, this is thespianism.
00:30:38We have two guest stars back to back acting it up.
00:30:43Senator Henderson with the, he can't even, he can't even finish the statement.
00:30:47That's how much in joy he is.
00:30:49What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.
00:30:56Now, as I'm looking at this outfit and this costuming with the mustache and the hair that they give this guy,
00:31:05I have always thought this is the most ridiculous, obvious makeup job ever.
00:31:11There's no way he's inconspicuous wearing this getup.
00:31:15We'll get back to that later as well.
00:31:16So he puts on the outfit.
00:31:19Sam is disgusted.
00:31:20Aaron Walker is traveling.
00:31:23And here comes Danny and Mike.
00:31:26And they're following him down the strip.
00:31:28This is one of those external shots down the strip where they're actually using the strip.
00:31:32And that's fantastic.
00:31:33Mike says he wants to do some improvements on the car.
00:31:36Danny says don't touch it.
00:31:38But Danny then calls his dad to ask about Greg.
00:31:41Because he hasn't heard from Greg.
00:31:43That storyline hasn't been tied up yet.
00:31:45Mary asked about Greg when King Arthur was running amok in the casino.
00:31:49Danny said, ah, no, that's probably not.
00:31:52But it just gnawed at him.
00:31:53It just ate at him a little bit.
00:31:54And he had to check in on it.
00:31:56And he asked his dad.
00:31:57And his dad gives him some exposition.
00:31:59Says that he's sort of left in the lurch.
00:32:01Left without a night watchman.
00:32:03Which lays kind of the groundwork for the kind of life Greg's been leading.
00:32:08We get a little bit of Greg's story in a short amount of time.
00:32:11We get some exposition from Danny.
00:32:15As they follow the reporter into the night.
00:32:19Like they started on this trip in broad daylight.
00:32:24And now Danny and Mike are following Aaron to a club.
00:32:30In this club scene, we get production music on all of the versions.
00:32:36So this song doesn't really exist.
00:32:38Sam is just over it.
00:32:39Sam is over it all.
00:32:41The senator's mustache is falling off.
00:32:43The strippers are grinding all up on him.
00:32:47As they are prone to do.
00:32:48Especially when you have a ton of money.
00:32:51Aaron Walker is walking into the club.
00:32:54So are Danny and Mike.
00:32:57Mike with this terrible pork pie.
00:33:01Is that what they call it?
00:33:02Pork pie hat?
00:33:02It's not a good look for Mike.
00:33:05But now we're running interference.
00:33:08Danny is distracting Aaron Walker.
00:33:09Mike and Sam are trying to get the senator out of the club as soon as possible.
00:33:14Then we get some exposition from Aaron Walker about Senator Henderson and Ed.
00:33:20Well then let me enlighten you, kid.
00:33:22Senator Henderson has something over Big Ed to line.
00:33:25And he's holding it over his head.
00:33:28Which is the only reason why Ed is letting Senator Henderson get away with everything Senator Henderson has gotten away with.
00:33:34Danny doesn't seem to know that.
00:33:35Why?
00:33:36Because Ed hasn't told him.
00:33:38Danny don't need to know what Danny don't need to know.
00:33:40And as far as Ed is concerned, Danny don't need to know Jack.
00:33:45Danny just needs to do his job and protect the senator.
00:33:49While Ed realistically is protecting the senator.
00:33:52And realistically, to himself, protecting himself.
00:33:56Watching his back.
00:33:56Because something went down a long time ago.
00:34:01Now, part of me is wondering why Danny is taking Aaron Walker at his word.
00:34:07But part of it is just, as the audience, we kind of have to do that.
00:34:11You know, we've only got 44 minutes to play with here.
00:34:14Right?
00:34:14And you can't tell that whole story in that short amount of time.
00:34:17Despite how much you think you can.
00:34:19So they leave the club.
00:34:21And in walks Luis.
00:34:24Let's talk about Detective Luis.
00:34:29He's another side character in Las Vegas that fans really like.
00:34:35I really like him.
00:34:37Luis is played by Guy Ecker.
00:34:38Guy Ecker's first credited role was in 1986, The Devil Wears White.
00:34:47He then flip-flopped between American projects and Latin projects.
00:34:53His next one was De Nero Sangre.
00:34:55After that was an episode of Webster.
00:34:58Born Killer.
00:35:00La Otra Rea del Tigre.
00:35:03For 120 episodes.
00:35:05I'm guessing that's a soap opera.
00:35:09311 episodes of Cafe Con Amore Del Mejor.
00:35:14100 episodes of Guajira.
00:35:18100 episodes of La Mentiria.
00:35:22Of La Mentira.
00:35:25That's as close as that pronunciation is going to get.
00:35:28150 episodes of Salome.
00:35:3112 episodes of Las Vegas.
00:35:33127 episodes of Aridas del Amor.
00:35:38114 episodes of Eva Luna.
00:35:42111 episodes of Passions of the Heart.
00:35:45That one's in English.
00:35:47107 episodes of Azario.
00:35:501 episode of Arraque de Passion.
00:35:54151 episodes of Por Siempre Mi Amor.
00:35:59For crying out loud.
00:36:01154 episodes of El Señor de los Cioles.
00:36:08Si, si, siolos.
00:36:11I'm trying.
00:36:13And his last credit as an actor that I have on his IMDB
00:36:17is 100 episodes of Perintes a la Fuerza.
00:36:26I tried.
00:36:27I really tried with those.
00:36:28But Guy Ecker.
00:36:29Born in Brazil.
00:36:31Guy Ecker is going to be a key character in Las Vegas.
00:36:35He is going to add Spanish into almost any line he can get away with.
00:36:41But you'll be able to follow along.
00:36:43He's almost sort of kind of teaching you Spanish as he goes along.
00:36:49He brings Danny from the club to the morgue.
00:36:53Because they found Greg.
00:36:55As Danny identifies the body.
00:36:57They start narrowing down who would do this to gamblers.
00:37:00Greg's a gambler.
00:37:01That's his big vice.
00:37:03There are a couple of bookies in Vegas that they're talking about
00:37:06who would do business with a guy like Greg.
00:37:08And even fewer.
00:37:10About two.
00:37:10Who would do something like this to a gambler with a lot of debt.
00:37:15Danny is devastated.
00:37:17But he's clearly thinking about revenge.
00:37:20And Luis knows he's thinking about revenge.
00:37:24He tells him to go home.
00:37:26It's too bad.
00:37:28Danny's already got it in his head.
00:37:29Because Greg has been a childhood friend to him and Mary.
00:37:32They grew up together.
00:37:34They graduated high school together.
00:37:36And we get an exposition here from Danny.
00:37:40About how Greg essentially was a better son to his dad than he was.
00:37:46Because rather than go to the military.
00:37:48Greg stayed home.
00:37:49And ended up working for his father.
00:37:52And as we get that we see Mary.
00:37:56The shot of Mary running.
00:37:58As much as she can.
00:38:00Probably in wedges I think.
00:38:01Down the hallway.
00:38:03This run scene is an interesting run scene for a couple of reasons.
00:38:05The first reason.
00:38:07Is just the.
00:38:09Let's talk about it.
00:38:10The physics of Nikki Cox running down this hallway.
00:38:14In a thin.
00:38:17Thin shirt.
00:38:17The physics.
00:38:19And I don't know what kind of.
00:38:21The physics of this.
00:38:23I can't explain.
00:38:24I.
00:38:24You have to watch the physics of it.
00:38:26There's no real way to actually describe.
00:38:29The physics of.
00:38:30Her running down the hall.
00:38:32But she's also running down the hall.
00:38:34Like in a beeline towards.
00:38:36Danny who she.
00:38:37Who they both know.
00:38:39Is going to stop her.
00:38:41Even though.
00:38:41She says she wants to see him.
00:38:44She's running.
00:38:45So that she can try to see.
00:38:47Greg's body.
00:38:49Danny knows she doesn't want to see the body.
00:38:52I think deep down.
00:38:52Mary knows she doesn't want to see the body.
00:38:54So she almost lets herself.
00:38:56Get caught.
00:38:58By Danny in this moment.
00:38:59And just breaks down and cries.
00:39:01And this is once again.
00:39:02In the second episode of the series.
00:39:06We get to see the acting chops of Nikki Cox.
00:39:10Off the page.
00:39:14Again.
00:39:15I don't.
00:39:16The fact that Nikki Cox.
00:39:19Didn't become.
00:39:20I don't.
00:39:20I don't know what.
00:39:21I don't know what happened from.
00:39:22This show should have launched her into.
00:39:25More movies.
00:39:26She.
00:39:26I.
00:39:27With the actresses that we had.
00:39:30In the 2000s.
00:39:32That did make it.
00:39:33With.
00:39:34Far.
00:39:35Less talent than Nikki Cox.
00:39:37It.
00:39:38She could do the drama.
00:39:39She could do the funny stuff.
00:39:40She could be the girl next door.
00:39:42She could be the sex pot.
00:39:43She could do.
00:39:44She.
00:39:44She.
00:39:45Had a.
00:39:46Wide range.
00:39:47And she shows this range of emotion right here.
00:39:50Once again.
00:39:50Second episode.
00:39:51Your heart goes out to Mary.
00:39:53You just feel so bad for this girl.
00:39:57Just.
00:39:58Not.
00:39:58She's lost her friend.
00:40:00The.
00:40:00It's hard to cry.
00:40:01It's hard to have an emotional moment.
00:40:03And then at the end.
00:40:04As they're walking away.
00:40:05You see the sort of.
00:40:07Glaze.
00:40:07Over.
00:40:08In her face.
00:40:09Of.
00:40:10Just.
00:40:11Just.
00:40:12Nothingness.
00:40:12Just.
00:40:13Just.
00:40:14The.
00:40:14The.
00:40:14If you've ever lost someone.
00:40:16That despair.
00:40:18After.
00:40:19It's just.
00:40:20As.
00:40:20As.
00:40:20It really hasn't hit you.
00:40:22But it's washing over you.
00:40:23You don't know what you do.
00:40:24You're kind of drowning in the moment of it.
00:40:26It.
00:40:27And it's just a half a second.
00:40:28Just the acting chops of Nicky Cox.

00:40:35That's a good idea.

00:41:20That's 323-399-3674.
00:41:25They return to the casino.
00:41:28Amazingly.
00:41:28I don't know how they return to the casino.
00:41:31The Binkins are winning money.
00:41:32Running around with the surfers.
00:41:34Here comes King Arthur running around the casino yelling.
00:41:37To arm!
00:41:40To arm!
00:41:43To arm!
00:41:46And Ed is not pleased.
00:41:49Danny finds Ed.
00:41:51Says that he needs some time off.
00:41:54And gets a warning from Ed.
00:41:57That he better not be looking into the death of his friend.
00:42:00But once again, everyone knows what's on Danny's mind.
00:42:06And no one wants Danny to actually do it.
00:42:09But everyone knows what's on his mind.
00:42:11He wants vengeance for his friend.
00:42:13Which is completely understandable.
00:42:15But everyone's telling him not to do it.
00:42:18Enter Jillian.
00:42:19We get to see the lovely Jillian once again on our screens.
00:42:24Lighten up the mood a little bit.
00:42:25They talk about King Arthur and his show.
00:42:28And how it's all sold out.
00:42:31And how she wants tickets for it.
00:42:34And this guy's an amazing actor.
00:42:36And Ed says this guy also has an amazing mental health record.
00:42:40And he talks about how he's nuts.
00:42:43Which tracks.
00:42:44Which totally tracks.
00:42:45He's more than just an eccentric actor.
00:42:47He's a little bit nuts.
00:42:48He goes too far into his role.
00:42:50Too much into the method.
00:42:53Here come the Binkins again.
00:42:54They are asking for a picture with King Arthur in front of the pyramid.
00:43:00So they can send it to the folks back home.
00:43:03Which, okay, good.
00:43:04How long is their trip?
00:43:06And how long are they going to send it back home?
00:43:09They'll probably get to show the people back home before it gets back home.
00:43:14They drift off.
00:43:16Sam brings Ed and Danny back in.
00:43:19Because again, there's something up with the senator.
00:43:21The senator is not like the fact that the reporter is running around the casino.
00:43:27And then Arthur comes up to Danny and says.
00:43:30Lancelot.
00:43:31I fear no good will come of Merlin's connection with this evil sorcerer.
00:43:36You and me both.
00:43:38So he's sort of encapsulating the episode.
00:43:42He's sort of putting it in different terms while also being a bit nuts.
00:43:46The senator tells Ed to make the reporter go away.
00:43:48Because Ed is good at making things go away.
00:43:55And Ed knows exactly what he's talking about.
00:43:57But he's not going to do what the senator wants him to do.
00:44:01He's going to try to get him off the property in a legal way while keeping him alive.
00:44:06But keep him away from the senator is the goal.
00:44:08Now, as King Arthur is finished talking with Danny, he is led away because here comes Nessa.
00:44:17Lady Guinevere.
00:44:21Again, and he calls her Lady Guinevere and escorts her off.
00:44:25Now, here's the problem that I have with this episode.
00:44:27One of the problems I have with this episode right here.
00:44:30Nessa's been on screen twice.
00:44:32Said zero words.
00:44:34Marsha Thomason is being incredibly wasted in this episode.
00:44:37I know it's only the second episode.
00:44:39And I know that they really didn't know what they were going to do with the Ice Queen at this point of the show.
00:44:45By this point, Pauly's gone.
00:44:47Like I said, the Ice Man has been replaced by the Ice Queen.
00:44:50So I don't think they really knew what they were doing with her yet.
00:44:55This kind of really is the first episode.
00:44:58Because the pilot episode happened.
00:45:00We established some stuff.
00:45:01But a lot of stuff got shifted very quickly by the time we get to the second episode.
00:45:05It feels like a waste of Marsha Thomason.
00:45:10And as we keep watching the episodes and go through the show, there's going to be a lot of waste of Marsha Thomason, actually.
00:45:19Maybe more so than almost any other character.
00:45:22Which is a damn shame because Marsha Thomason is a gem.
00:45:25Delinda comes over and she is tasked with babysitting Danny to get him away from the senator for a while.
00:45:32And really just to get him away from the casino.
00:45:34Kind of get him to mourn his friend a little bit.
00:45:38Grieve his friend.
00:45:39And kind of keep him out of trouble.
00:45:41But Ed messes up because he stuck trouble to keep Danny out of trouble.
00:45:46Delinda is trouble.
00:45:48She is going to try to play the sympathetic ear.
00:45:52But Danny is too fixated on getting revenge.
00:45:55Finding out the dirt that he needs.
00:45:59The evidence that he needs to go after whoever did this to his close friend Greg.
00:46:06And in this scene, we're going to see some really good prop work, actually.
00:46:11As Danny and Delinda are going through the stuff in the bungalow where Greg slept on the job site for McCoy Construction, we see some pictures that they all took.
00:46:22Graduation pictures, etc.
00:46:24And they look really good, actually.
00:46:25They look really good the way they did.
00:46:27Like, obviously, they had them just put on a cap and gown and take these pictures.
00:46:32But that's a good touch.
00:46:33That's a really good touch.
00:46:35You see Greg's helmet that's sitting there.
00:46:37Again, really good touch.
00:46:38You automatically get a sense of who this guy is, who this character was.
00:46:42Delinda, in this case, really is playing the proxy for the audience.
00:46:46They have photo booth pictures.
00:46:48They have graduation pictures.
00:46:50They do pretty good work.
00:46:52Especially for 2003.
00:46:53They actually do pretty good work here.
00:46:55Tyler O'Reilly is the bookie who is responsible.
00:47:01And Danny knows exactly who Tyler O'Reilly is.
00:47:05He calls him...
00:47:06Punk-ass dirtbag.
00:47:07Can you be more specific?
00:47:09He's the last resort for money in a town full of it.
00:47:12Delinda really doesn't know what's happening.
00:47:15Or she kind of does.
00:47:16She knows Danny's going off the deep end.
00:47:18And she knows that she really can't kind of wrangle him in.
00:47:20She's trying to.
00:47:22As they go down the strip looking for Tyler, Delinda is trying to distract.
00:47:27Danny is trying to pull him off the ledge, so to speak.
00:47:30She's the last source of people trying to pull Danny off the ledge.
00:47:34And she's not going to succeed at all.
00:47:36At all at all, she's not going to succeed.
00:47:38They're going to talk a little bit about any secrets that Ed may have that may come back to haunt him.
00:47:45Delinda, of course, is not going to give any of it up.
00:47:47And at that moment, Danny sees Tyler.
00:47:53And Tyler sees Danny and is suddenly scared.
00:47:58Like, hold on.
00:47:59If Tyler O'Reilly was bold enough to rough up and beat up Greg, and he knew Greg's tie to Danny.
00:48:12And he still did what he did, knowing that Danny would probably come after him.
00:48:17And that Danny's a Marine.
00:48:19He knew Danny was a Marine.
00:48:20He had to have known Danny was a Marine.
00:48:21So, they're running all through Vegas.
00:48:24Tyler knocks over a priest collecting for the poor.
00:48:27A woman with a carriage with twins in it.
00:48:30Obviously, to make him seem like the bad guy to try to get away.
00:48:33And Danny chases him down and pulls him down.
00:48:36And as they pull him down, they don't cut away from the shot in time to not have the crash pad come up on the screen.
00:48:42But maybe we weren't supposed to see that.
00:48:45Miraculously, Louis shows up right at that point where Danny is beating up Tyler.
00:48:51Miraculously.
00:48:52Miraculously, he just happens to show up right at that moment.
00:48:55But to stop Danny from doing something, he would ultimately regret.
00:48:59Wow.
00:49:00Isn't TV amazing?
00:49:02The next day, Mike sees Luis pull up to the valet as well as Danny.
00:49:10Again, all at the same time, the timing here is amazing.
00:49:15Danny apologizes for last night.
00:49:17Luis tells him, listen, I'd have done the same thing.
00:49:19Even though last night he told him, if you weren't my friend, I'd send you to jail right now.
00:49:23But he doesn't.
00:49:25And they get Tyler O'Reilly.
00:49:28He's in custody.
00:49:29They're going to look into it.
00:49:30They're going to investigate.
00:49:31Luis says we may not find anything.
00:49:33And that's the last we hear from Tyler O'Reilly.
00:49:36That's the last we hear about Greg and his case.
00:49:38As far as I can remember, I don't think we ever hear about Greg or Tyler ever again on this show.
00:49:46Despite Tyler killing Danny and Mary's best friend through childhood.
00:49:51I don't think we ever hear about Greg ever again.
00:49:55What happened to his case?
00:49:57Nothing.
00:49:58TV magic, baby.
00:50:00And again, Mike is wasted in this episode too.
00:50:03That's the last we see of Mike.
00:50:05And we barely saw Mike in this episode.
00:50:07But this is the problem that they actually fixed.
00:50:09Because they realized this fairly early.
00:50:12James LeJure is an amazing talent.
00:50:14James LeJure, there's only so much you can do in a parking lot.
00:50:17There's only so much you can do in a valet.
00:50:19There's only so much you can do.
00:50:21And that's why they changed Mike's character and career trajectory a little bit later in the series.
00:50:28As of right now, I think they kind of already get it with Mike.
00:50:32They don't quite get it with Nessa though.
00:50:34And that's a shame.
00:50:37Sam is sitting by the slots while the senator is still flanked by women.
00:50:44And we can obviously tell that they have been up all night.
00:50:47But of course, what do you exercise to say?
00:50:51I've been up all night.
00:50:53Danny runs into Nessa.
00:50:58And here we get Nessa to actually speak in this episode.
00:51:02Danny again asks about the past and what Nessa might be able to tell him about Ed and his connection with the senator or anything.
00:51:10And Nessa again shuts him off and says no.
00:51:12And of course, we hear...
00:51:14I'm still waiting for you to show me the sights of Vegas, Danny.
00:51:17I'm in love.
00:51:23I'm in love, I'm in love, I'm in love, I'm in love.
00:51:26So Ed is out of his office.
00:51:29Danny goes up to his office to talk to him.
00:51:31But he sees a website up about Senator Henderson as he's about to sit down in the office.
00:51:38A biography on Ed's computer.
00:51:42Ed walks in.
00:51:43Danny sort of with this really kind of goofy, oh, it was already up on the screen.
00:51:47He knows it's already up on the screen.
00:51:49He probably put it there.
00:51:51Ed first and foremost talks to Danny about Greg.
00:51:53Greg asks why you didn't come to him with Greg's gambling problem.
00:51:59Danny says Vegas natives are supposed to know better.
00:52:02And then Ed talks a little bit about the covert op that Senator Henderson knows about and is holding over his head.
00:52:11Ed says they did some bad things.
00:52:13Which is a very TV friendly as well as time friendly way of saying they, that Ed and his crew that he was in charge of in this particular op did some things that the U.S. government is not supposed to do, but did anyway.
00:52:35That is a shocking turn of events.
00:52:37I never would have saw that coming.
00:52:38Not from the U.S. government.
00:52:39No, never.
00:52:41But they did something like that.
00:52:43And Senator Henderson is holding it over his head.
00:52:46Again, perfect timing so that the writers don't have to go into any deeper detail.
00:52:51Aaron Walker is seen taking pictures of the Senator, taking video of him and asking him about his slot play.
00:52:58And Aaron Walker scurries away, like just, just like a, almost like a gopher, scurries away.
00:53:06And Ed is chasing him and gets cut off by King Arthur, who has to be told that he is Arden King.
00:53:12He is an actor from Mary, who is not putting up with his BS at this particular point.
00:53:17She has had a rough couple of days.
00:53:20And she is not putting up with anything anymore.
00:53:23And Ed whispers in his ear that he knows all about his medical record and he needs to chill out.
00:53:28Listen, he kind of does.
00:53:31But what this does, this kind of causes a break in Arden, a.k.a. Arthur.
00:53:39Boy, what a, what a coincidence.
00:53:41Arden King playing King Arthur.
00:53:43What a coincidence.
00:53:45The Senator walks up to Ed.
00:53:46After the sea of people just kind of leave.
00:53:48And the Senator is not disguised at all.
00:53:50He's just wearing sunglasses.
00:53:51And I know how this goes.
00:53:53Sometimes you see a celebrity and it's like, oh, that can't be them because they look different than they do on TV.
00:53:58You know, TV, even if for interviews they put you in makeup, they look, you look different.
00:54:02Or you just can't believe that that person is that close to you.
00:54:05But, listen, some celebrities look like them.
00:54:08All right?
00:54:08Like, come on.
00:54:11Like, Sarah Harris is going to look like him.
00:54:13And even at 6 a.m., the gamblers at 6 a.m., somebody would notice him.
00:54:19Like, he spent all this time trying to get the reporter away.
00:54:24But at the same time, you know, he's in the sea of people and nobody turns their head to say, oh, I think that's Senator Henderson.
00:54:29Somebody is.
00:54:30Anyway, we get more Mitch.
00:54:32We get more Mitch as the team are looking for the reporter, Aaron Walker.
00:54:37Try to find out where he is and get the film back.
00:54:40Aaron Walker is down by the wave pool where the surfing championships are happening.
00:54:44And it's going to be broadcast by NBC Sports, don't you know?
00:54:48So, Aaron Walker is looking for a place to upload the material that he has on his flash drives.
00:54:53Danny stops him after a really awkward, there was a really awkward moment.
00:54:57First off, we get production music here, obviously.
00:55:00Of course, why wouldn't you?
00:55:01Particularly with the Peacock version.
00:55:04As Danny is walking towards Aaron Walker trying to find him,
00:55:08trying to get to the production area where Aaron Walker might be.
00:55:11By the way, none of the production guys think twice about this guy just walking up to the area.
00:55:15He's not in beach gear like everybody else is.
00:55:17So, I guess maybe they think he might work for somebody on the property.
00:55:21So, these extras say...
00:55:22What right there?
00:55:25What right there?
00:55:26What a weird...
00:55:27I know it's just a goofy thing to stop Danny's trajectory, but that's just...
00:55:32Yeah, silly.
00:55:33Anyway, Aaron Walker's trying to upload what he has.
00:55:36Danny finds him, cuts off the upload, grabs all his stuff, and takes him back again.
00:55:42King Arthur tosses Excalibur into the pool, because obviously there's no oceans in Las Vegas.
00:55:47Lady of the lake, I am not worthy of Excalibur.
00:55:51And boy, is that going to come back as a plot point.
00:55:57Danny finds Aaron Walker, is dragging him off.
00:56:00Senator Henderson is calmed down now, over by the slots.
00:56:05Ed is...
00:56:06Ed's got Senator Henderson on the screens in the back.
00:56:10And Ed is having a tête-à-tête with himself.
00:56:13He's thinking about it.
00:56:13He's looking at the guy on both screens.
00:56:20The quote-unquote good guy on the news, and the quote-unquote bad guy in his casino.
00:56:27And Ed's having an issue with his conscience.
00:56:32We go to the interrogation room.
00:56:34Danny's got all of Aaron Walker's stuff.
00:56:36And Ed just tells him to give it back.
00:56:38Everything.
00:56:40Absolutely everything.
00:56:41Danny reminds Ed that Walker's just going to upload the footage as soon as he can.
00:56:47And before he even says it, Ed says, I know.
00:56:50I know.
00:56:51Remember when I mentioned that Senator Walker's disguise looked ridiculous?
00:56:58As Aaron Walker is leaving the casino, scurrying away again,
00:57:03we see an extra in a suit with the same facial hair.
00:57:08Now, I don't know if they decided after the fact to add this guy in there,
00:57:14or if they modeled the Senator's disguise after this guy,
00:57:18once they saw him in production as an extra, or what.
00:57:22But that's a weird coincidence.
00:57:23So, right as I said that this looks absolutely unbelievable,
00:57:26I see this guy walking around with basically the same look in a suit minus the cap.
00:57:31And maybe I'm wrong.
00:57:33Maybe, this might be, I, at one point thought I was wrong, but I was mistaken.
00:57:37But this might be the first time I actually didn't get it right.
00:57:41Aaron Walker scurries away, past the guy with the just weird Baron Von Raschke bruiser mustache.
00:57:51I shall fight no more forever, says Ed to Danny.
00:57:56Ed's just tired.
00:57:57Ed's just tired of fighting.
00:57:59Ed's just tired of keeping up the charade.
00:58:03He doesn't want to do it anymore.
00:58:04He's not going to do it anymore.
00:58:06Meanwhile, the waypool shut down completely and totally.
00:58:09The song that plays as the waypool is shut down is called Lady Luck by Sonny Ellis off his album It's a Struggle.
00:58:16So, Mary tries to calm the crowd down.
00:58:19She is told by one of the production deck guys that it will take a few hours for a crew from L.A. to fly in to fix the high-tech machinery.
00:58:27My first question is, why wasn't there a crew on hand?
00:58:30Like, this is a big event.
00:58:31It's on national television.
00:58:32Shouldn't there be somebody on hand with a wrench or something to be able to fix something, like, on hand?
00:58:39Like, you should have put up a crew in a room somewhere in case something happens with a piece of machinery like that.
00:58:45And it probably will have somebody on hand.
00:58:49That's just poor planning.
00:58:51Anyway, the senator's footage is out.
00:58:54And he is panicking.
00:58:55He is losing it.
00:58:57But Ed says up to him.
00:58:59Ed is not taking any of it.
00:59:00He lets the senator come in and bluster about and talk about how he's got to fix this.
00:59:05And Ed says, I can't fix it.
00:59:06The senator says,
00:59:07My marker for my silence, then.
00:59:10Excuse me?
00:59:11You tear up my three and a half million dollar marker.
00:59:14End my losses from this weekend.
00:59:17And I won't talk.
00:59:19And Ed stands up to him.
00:59:20Ed stands his ground.
00:59:21What I'm going to do, I'm going to call a valet.
00:59:25And he's going to put you in a real nice cab.
00:59:27I'm going to take you to the airport and put you in a real big commercial airline.
00:59:34Oh.
00:59:35Look at this.
00:59:39Damn it.
00:59:40You missed the last flight.
00:59:43I guess you'll have to leave first thing in the morning.
00:59:45Check out.
00:59:46It's 11 a.m.
00:59:48Sharp.
00:59:50Good for Ed for sticking up for himself.
00:59:52It's a little late, but good for Ed for sticking up for himself.
00:59:55Ed is banking on the fact that the covert op that he was a part of isn't the story.
01:00:02That no one will care about it.
01:00:04That's a fair assumption.
01:00:05But again, we're not going to really get into politics, but that's a fair assumption.
01:00:09Especially in 2003.
01:00:10The scandal was the story.
01:00:13And the scandal almost always will be the story.
01:00:17Like, it seems like that's what most people are really interested in when it comes to
01:00:22stories like this.
01:00:23Like, he might bring up the covert op, and that might be boner in the story, but we're
01:00:27going to talk about him and his gambling and the strippers and his morality.
01:00:32Hold on a second.
01:00:33Let's get a new deck in here, and we'll be right back.
01:00:47You're listening to Rainy Days Don't Get Me Down by Anthony Njoku.
01:00:56If you like what you're hearing, want to hear it again, hear more, or both, just go to
01:01:00tinyurl.com slash a-njoku.
01:01:03That's tinyurl.com slash a-n-j-o-k-u.
01:01:17Mary's in distress over the fact that the wave pool isn't working, and she's the event
01:01:29coordinator.
01:01:29She put it all together.
01:01:30She says they're going to be lucky if they let her finish out the day.
01:01:34And this triggers Arthur, who sees a lady in distress, to dive into the pool and fix
01:01:40the problem that he caused.
01:01:41He pulls Excalibur out of the pool, aka the stone.
01:01:45Danny's about to go in and get him, but then he sees Arthur come out, and a big, giant
01:01:49wave rushes Arthur to the shore of the wave crowd.
01:01:53Production music plays throughout this whole thing on every version that you're going to
01:01:57see, and the crowd, again, loves him.
01:02:00This is the only reason he's getting away with this stuff.
01:02:03This is the only reason he's getting away with this stuff, because he's really good at
01:02:07drawing a crowd.
01:02:07And the surfing continues.
01:02:09We're right back at it almost immediately.
01:02:11You get some good shots here.
01:02:12The last guy looking directly into the camera.
01:02:15Two, looking directly into the camera.
01:02:17Good for him.
01:02:18Get your 15 minutes of fame, sir.
01:02:20Senator Henderson is all over the news.
01:02:23The reporters are just going to town on this guy.
01:02:26The reporters that they got, I believe, are from Los Angeles.
01:02:28I've seen them before.
01:02:29I can't remember exactly what stations they were on, just because it's been a while.
01:02:33I think the guy was on Channel 5.
01:02:36The woman out here, KTLA.
01:02:38The woman, I can't remember exactly what channel she was on, but I think she was out
01:02:41here, maybe nine, maybe.
01:02:44We'll get to see Mike again, one last time, as the Binkins take off, talking about the
01:02:50time that they had, showing off the picture, and Mike is just putting on the face.
01:02:54He's a great valet.
01:02:56He makes everybody feel special.
01:02:58There's Senator Henderson about to leave with reporters all around him.
01:03:01Again, Mr. Binkins says, I told you everybody comes to Vegas.
01:03:05You probably won't be invited back again.
01:03:08Meanwhile, Danny and Ed take a look at the footage on the camera, and then we go to Greg's
01:03:17memorial service at Bella Serra.
01:03:22And there's a bunch of people around, telling stories.
01:03:25I don't know how many of them know Greg, but there's the Montecito crew.
01:03:29Obviously, there's an Elvis, for some reason.
01:03:33I need to, I need to talk about this scene.
01:03:40Because on the DVD version, we get a song called The Hands of Time, which is a good song
01:03:51for this scene.
01:03:52It works.
01:03:54It's by Groove Armada.
01:03:56It is a good song for this scene.
01:03:58We get to see the president of the Mandalay Bay come in and give his condolences.
01:04:02They were still shooting in Mandalay Bay in a lot of this.
01:04:04You can definitely see the Mandalay Bay all around this episode.
01:04:10Their set really wasn't up yet.
01:04:12So, we hear Hands of Time by the Groove Armada play, and that's a good little song for the
01:04:21moment.
01:04:23If you're watching on the DVD, and I believe even if you're watching on a different copy
01:04:31that you may not be able to procure in the best of ways.
01:04:38If you're watching on Peacock, you get a truly terrible production song.
01:04:48The sound was terrible.
01:04:50It overpowers everything else that's going on in this episode.
01:04:55The volume and the mixing of this song in with the rest of the episode is awful.
01:05:01And it's I Will Remember You, My Friend, and all these goofy, terrible lyrics that sound
01:05:08like they were generated by AI, a bad AI.
01:05:13I will remember you, my friend, and always to the end.
01:05:16It's awful.
01:05:17It's just bad.
01:05:18It's not even grade school level sad songwriting.
01:05:21It is just atrocious.
01:05:23It is just terrible.
01:05:25And you cannot stay in the moment.
01:05:30Even with the good acting by Nicky Cox, you cannot stay in the moment.
01:05:37It is such a terrible song, and it plays through the rest of the episode as Danny and Mary say
01:05:43goodbye to their friend and take his ashes and share them across the Las Vegas Strip.
01:05:50What an awful song.
01:05:53I truly hate bad production music that comes in and overlays over songs, especially something
01:06:00like this.
01:06:01Like, Groove Armada is not a big band or anything.
01:06:05Let them have this moment.
01:06:07Let them have this episode.
01:06:10Let somebody put on their Shazam on their phone and find Groove Armada.
01:06:15Early 2000s, I talked about this before.
01:06:17I found so much good music through TV shows in the early to mid 2000s.
01:06:23Let people rediscover it now.
01:06:25Let people rediscover it now.
01:06:27Whatever rights you're talking about with the holding and all that, stop it, stop it, stop it.
01:06:34Get the lawyers together to figure this out.
01:06:38And how they configure which songs they're going to overlay with production music versus
01:06:43the songs that they still somehow get the rights to or procure more rights to it or like
01:06:48the opening song.
01:06:49Why do we have three different versions of the opening song on three different platforms?
01:06:53What is going on here?
01:06:56And it becomes readily apparent in a moment like this.
01:06:59You have this moment that's supposed to cap everything off.
01:07:02That's supposed to be a touching moment.
01:07:04That's supposed to let us in on the emotions of two of the main characters on this series
01:07:09that we're going to follow for God knows how long.
01:07:13We know it's going to be for five seasons.
01:07:14But on the emotions of these characters, we've been following this storyline now for two whole
01:07:19episodes.
01:07:20And we cannot get a good production.
01:07:25Listen, I would have taken just plain music.
01:07:30Plain production music in the background would have been better than this cheap AI version
01:07:35of, I don't know if this guy's a singer or not, a real singer with these terrible lines.
01:07:43It sounds like he was making them up as he was singing in the booth.
01:07:46What are we doing?
01:07:48They could have played taps over this and it would have been better.
01:07:51I'm done, Wren.
01:07:54Mary and Danny take Greg's ashes in and let them go across the Vegas Strip just before they
01:08:00do.
01:08:01The Elvis says,
01:08:02Which is just, okay, fine.
01:08:05Sure, why not?
01:08:06This shot is great, even with the CGI ashes flying out, which actually doesn't look as
01:08:11terrible as you think that they would look for 2003, but you probably can't get real
01:08:17ashes to cooperate with you properly on something like that.
01:08:19What a horrible, I, ugh, ugh.
01:08:23And that's so weird because in this episode, I was thinking that there wouldn't be any good
01:08:29music that's overlaid or any, you know, they're gonna take out music, they're not gonna switch
01:08:34it for copywritten music, but they actually do in this episode.
01:08:38Peacock actually does switch the songs.
01:08:41Like, you get Swagger, the first song that comes up on Peacock, which is, which is just,
01:08:46it's not, I wouldn't have expected that.
01:08:49Anyway, that was episode two of Las Vegas, What Happens in Vegas Stays in Vegas.
01:08:56Despite that ending, this was a decent episode.
01:09:00This is a decent episode, but I know that there are better episodes coming, and I can't wait
01:09:03for the better episodes.
01:09:04The next episode is actually gonna be Donnie We Hardly Knew Ye, and actually, this is a
01:09:09fairly good episode.
01:09:10Because you get to see, and just at his wit's end, with his goofy cousin that he hadn't seen
01:09:17in years.
01:09:17He's gotta clean up his mess, he's gotta play the straight guy to the whole thing, and he
01:09:23is over it all from the very beginning, and James Caan is fantastic in this episode.
01:09:30This third episode is, in my opinion, slightly better than what happens in Vegas Stays in
01:09:35Vegas.
01:09:35I think, you know, the Senator thing might have been slightly too protracted for a 44-minute
01:09:45episode, even with all the other ins and outs that we were dealing with.
01:09:49Like, I got it almost immediately, and I was kind of over it sooner than I even remember
01:09:53being over it.
01:09:54But you had Arden King, King Arthur, come in, and he was a good change of pace.
01:09:59Again, wasted Nessa a little bit, but you did have some pretty good acting, actually, from
01:10:06Arden King, and that line reading is just phenomenal, and Ed is doing some pretty decent
01:10:12introspective work, and the Senator, despite the fact that his character, and maybe part
01:10:17of this is just how his character was written, and how he acted, as completely insufferable,
01:10:22I was ready to not spend time with the Senator anymore.
01:10:25I was so ready to have him leave the Montecito.
01:10:29So when he finally did, it was cathartic and refreshing, and exactly what was necessary.
01:10:35So by that aspect, I think they did their job pretty well.
01:10:38But I can't wait to get to episode three, Donnie, we hardly knew the, I really do like
01:10:44that episode.
01:10:44That's, I think, one of the better early episodes of Las Vegas, and I can't wait for you to join
01:10:49me, too.
01:10:50Find us on a few different places.
01:10:51You can find us on Twitter at ThePotacito.
01:10:53You can find me pretty much everywhere at Surreal469, S-U-R-R-E-A-L, the number's 469.
01:10:59And I can't wait to see you guys next time, as we actually get to know Donnie, we hardly
01:11:07knew you, here on The Potacito.
01:11:10Take care.
01:11:11Bye.
01:11:12Bye.
