00:00:00Hello and welcome to the Podofilo Podcast.
00:00:28I am your host, Will Corson.
00:00:29If you are anything like me, you just might happen to be a big fan of the 2003 show, Las Vegas.
00:00:37Now, we just happen to be in this sort of serendipitous time because Las Vegas, after all this time,
00:00:45has finally found a home on a streaming service, Peacock, which has its good notes and its bad notes.
00:00:52But one of the good notes is that I actually get to bring this podcast to the world,
00:00:57a podcast I've been thinking about and sitting on for a long time,
00:01:01and for various reasons, haven't had a chance to get to it, and there's no day like today, there's no time like now.
00:01:07I wanted to do this a long time ago when the only way to watch it was via DVD,
00:01:13which at a certain point got very expensive, and we can talk about those reasons in a little bit.
00:01:18Now it's on streaming service, and I think now is a good time so that it's a bit more shareable with more people.
00:01:24It was also on TNT for a long time, so some of you may not have been writing with the show when it first debuted in September 2003,
00:01:32but caught it in reruns alongside shows like Charmed and such off TNT.
00:01:36Now you get to see it on Peacock itself.
00:01:39A little bit about me, I've been a big fan of the show really since just after the first season.
00:01:43I won the DVD on a radio contest, was going through a bad, terrible time in my life,
00:01:50had a whole bunch of time on my hand to just sit and sulk and be depressed and just want my mind to wander in different places,
00:01:57and had this DVD in my hands.
00:02:00I popped it in, and I fell in love immediately.
00:02:03And my guess is a lot of your stories are something similar to mine.
00:02:10Las Vegas was on for five seasons, starred the talents Josh Duhamel, Nikki Cox, James Azour, Vanessa Marcelle,
00:02:17Marcella Thomason, and James Caan to start.
00:02:21Oh, and Molly Sims, of course.
00:02:22Gary Stark, Scott Thompson wrote and was executive producer of the show,
00:02:27and he really is the driving force behind a lot of what we love about this show.
00:02:32This podcast is going to be an episode-by-episode breakdown of the show that we love.
00:02:37We're going to go through all five seasons, the good, the bad, and the ugly.
00:02:39As much as I love this show, I know that there are some parts in it that I liked more than others.
00:02:46There are some things in it I liked more than others.
00:02:48There are some relationships I liked more than others.
00:02:52Oh, yes, we're going to stir all those pots in this podcast.
00:02:55But right now, we're just going to go, we're going to break down the pilot a little bit.
00:02:58There's so much to get into.
00:03:00I compiled information from every source I had.
00:03:04I've had the Las Vegas DVDs for years.
00:03:08I've actually had a few different incarnations of them.
00:03:10I got another recent version of them off of Amazon to watch and take more notes on because I wore my originals out.
00:03:19There's also the Peacock setting, and if you can find them on the internet in some places where they may or may not have permission to be,
00:03:27you might be able to find an original broadcast version of Las Vegas.
00:03:33Now, you'll be able to see that because it'll have the Peacock logo on it.
00:03:36I compile my notes from as many places as possible because one of the things that is a problem with streaming service,
00:03:42and one of the reasons why Las Vegas wasn't on streaming services for so long,
00:03:47is rights issues.
00:03:49Specifically, music rights issues.
00:03:51And we get into some of those music rights issues from the very first episode.
00:03:57If you're watching on Peacock, there are a couple of different shots in the intro.
00:04:01We start with a dead body in the desert.
00:04:05We find out who this dead body is a little bit later, but we start with a dead body in the desert.
00:04:10We start with certain music with this dead body in the desert.
00:04:16On the DVD and in the original version, it's Ready, Steady, Go.
00:04:20A fantastic song.
00:04:21I love that song.
00:04:23It's been on my compilations ever since I heard it on the DVD, and it was actually pretty big back in the day.
00:04:29Terrific song.
00:04:30And it's still in the Peacock version.
00:04:34Luckily, the sun sets as we slide underneath an airplane at McLaren Airport.
00:04:41We get our first real whoosh as we whoosh past the Las Vegas welcome sign.
00:04:46Now, the whoosh was technologically amazing at the time.
00:04:52It was...
00:04:53I'm going to feel a little old while watching this
00:04:56because I was around and alive and able to ingest and understand media at the time
00:05:03and love it and enjoy it.
00:05:05I was, you know, legally an adult when this came out.
00:05:08Some of you may not understand, what's the big deal about the whoosh?
00:05:11Well, this was technologically something that was ahead of its time, specifically on TV.
00:05:18In the early 2000s, there was still very much a divide between television and movies,
00:05:24between the quality and the money thrown at television versus movies.
00:05:29And you could see that a lot of times with really the quality of certain effects,
00:05:35the quality of maybe props, different level of writing,
00:05:39in part because with television, it's very episodic.
00:05:41You had to draw things out over a season of at least 13 up to 22 or 24 episodes.
00:05:48And, you know, the movie, you have 90 minutes.
00:05:51There was this very heavy divide between TV and movies.
00:05:55That started to fade a couple years later.
00:05:57But one of the divides, like I mentioned, is in special effects.
00:06:00You did not see on television a whole lot of this whooshing technology
00:06:04where the camera zooms very rapidly past images that you can recognize.
00:06:11And it seems...
00:06:12It's almost hyper real, right?
00:06:15It's obviously altered.
00:06:17It's obviously a special effect.
00:06:18It's obviously not how you would actually see it.
00:06:21But it's hyper real because you still feel like it could actually happen,
00:06:27at least in this universe.
00:06:29And this is the first part of building this universe in Las Vegas.
00:06:33We whoosh down the Vegas Strip,
00:06:36past Lady Liberty in New York, New York,
00:06:39through to a taxi with beautiful girls on it.
00:06:42We go to Paris, Paris, Paris.
00:06:44Down the Vegas Strip again, we see Mr. Bunny Shoes.
00:06:47It's laying the groundwork for the show.
00:06:49We pass by Circus Circus.
00:06:52There's a paper that flies by that has McCoy Construction on it with actual...
00:06:56By the way, let's stop by on this paper.
00:06:58It actually has stories on it.
00:06:59Like if you pause at the right moment,
00:07:00you would actually start to read a little bit of this paper.
00:07:03Somebody put work into this graphic
00:07:06that you would really only are supposed to barely recognize.
00:07:10You're not even really supposed to really ingest even the headlines.
00:07:14It's barely on the screen for most people to notice.
00:07:18But Uber fans like me, you could actually go back
00:07:21and you could actually see what's on the paper.
00:07:25So for instance, one of the headlines,
00:07:26Montecito team nabs ring of slot cheats.
00:07:30The other, McCoy Construction wins bid.
00:07:33And then you can see Packers win 20 to 14.
00:07:35I applaud the technical team for their work with the paper.
00:07:40One of the other benefits of the whoosh.
00:07:42You get to go from place to place in a very fast fashion.
00:07:45There's a great breakdown of the whoosh.
00:07:46However, this whoosh is extra special because we get to meet the crew.
00:07:50And we start with Mike Cannon played by James LeJure.
00:07:55James LeJure is one of my favorite actors, period, point blank.
00:07:59Every time I see James LeJure in something,
00:08:01I will at least stop and watch because I know James LeJure is going to be good at it.
00:08:06Even if what he's in may or may not,
00:08:09and I don't even know if I've ever seen him in something that isn't particularly good.
00:08:13I'd have to go back and think.
00:08:14The first time I remember seeing James LeJure was in the ABC,
00:08:19which moved to WB sitcom For Your Love with Holly Robinson-Pete
00:08:23and Michelle Pfeiffer's big sister, Dee Dee Pfeiffer,
00:08:27who for my money, my money's on Dee Dee.
00:08:30Michelle's great. I'll take Dee Dee all the time.
00:08:33As well as Adafi Blackman, D.W. Moffitt, Tamala Jones.
00:08:38That lasted for, how many seasons? Three or four?
00:08:40It might have been five. It might have been five.
00:08:42I want to say four seasons or so.
00:08:44Great show. That's the very first time I saw him.
00:08:47And this is actually part of the reason why I fell in love with Las Vegas.
00:08:52Because I managed to give it more of a shot
00:08:54than just popping into the DVD player and watching it.
00:08:57We get to, what, less than a minute or two in it
00:09:01and there's James LeJure and I'm like, yep, I'm watching this.
00:09:04I don't care what happens next.
00:09:06I'm watching James LeJure's in it.
00:09:08It can't be bad.
00:09:09Mike Cannon, as those of you who are fans of the show know,
00:09:13is arguably, for my money, for my money,
00:09:16Mike is the coolest guy in the casino.
00:09:20I know Josh Duhamel, Danny, is supposed to be the head character.
00:09:25But for my money, Mike's the guy.
00:09:28Mike is the guy.
00:09:29Everybody knows Mike.
00:09:30Everybody loves Mike.
00:09:31Mike is the guy.
00:09:31Even when they try to make him not cool
00:09:34or try to throw him off his game,
00:09:36he still brings the heat.
00:09:37And that, I got to give all credit to James LeJure on that.
00:09:40He's just tremendous in this role.
00:09:42This is a great role for him.
00:09:43So we get to whoosh by Mike Cannon
00:09:45and then we go into the casino and who do we see
00:09:48but the lovely, beautiful, talented Miss Nikki Cox.
00:09:55Nikki Cox is another one who I've seen before,
00:09:57before she got this role.
00:09:59She was in the nanny pilot, of all things,
00:10:01as one of the oldest daughter's friends.
00:10:05I guess she also had a career as a child actress.
00:10:07She was in a whole bunch of stuff,
00:10:09including California Dreams,
00:10:11where she had a slight story arc
00:10:13where she was the girlfriend of Sly Sylvester Winkle
00:10:16and was arguably the best girlfriend for him,
00:10:19even though he ends up with Lorena later.
00:10:21Arguably the best girlfriend for him.
00:10:23But I first recognized her from Unhappily Ever After,
00:10:26which is where probably most people
00:10:28first recognized Nikki Cox.
00:10:31She was just incredibly talented and funny
00:10:35and of course, attractive on that show.
00:10:37It was from the creators of Married with Children,
00:10:39essentially an extension of Married with Children.
00:10:41What if Al and Peg actually did go ahead with the divorce?
00:10:44Nikki Cox became incredibly popular.
00:10:48Even though this show was really supposed to be
00:10:50for Stephanie Hodge, who played the mother,
00:10:53and Jeffrey Pearson, who played the father,
00:10:55it was really supposed to be a starring vehicle for them.
00:10:58But Nikki Cox got popular,
00:11:00Stephanie Hodge got mad,
00:11:02wouldn't be the first, I think, or last time
00:11:04that happened with Stephanie Hodge,
00:11:06but that's a whole other thing.
00:11:07And she ended up leaving the show.
00:11:10So because, in part, it just became the Nikki Cox show.
00:11:14So much so, that when Unhappily Ever After ended,
00:11:17WB actually did give Nikki Cox her own show,
00:11:19called Nikki.
00:11:20Because why wouldn't you?
00:11:21She was just, she was amazingly stunning,
00:11:24and the hottest new thing on the market,
00:11:27and everybody knew it,
00:11:28and WB, at that point, really needed something like that
00:11:31to try to jumpstart their whole network.
00:11:33In that show, she was, ironically enough,
00:11:37in Las Vegas, as a showgirl,
00:11:40an aspiring dancer, showgirl,
00:11:42with her husband, who was an aspiring wrestler,
00:11:44called the Crybaby.
00:11:46There's a lot of those in professional wrestling.
00:11:48That's a whole other story.
00:11:49And now, we get to see the lovely Marsha Thomason.
00:11:55Oh, be still my, this show just doesn't miss, does it?
00:11:59This show, with the beautiful girls,
00:12:01oh my goodness, we get Marsha Thomason,
00:12:04who, according to the DVD commentary,
00:12:08which is another great reason to get the physical media,
00:12:11the DVD, because you actually get to hear the commentary
00:12:13from Gary Scott Thompson and the crew.
00:12:18According to Marsha Thomason,
00:12:18she didn't have a nameplate on whatever British show
00:12:22she had been on, or title card, right?
00:12:25And this is the first one she ever got,
00:12:26and she was so excited about that.
00:12:27She really wasn't even supposed to have this role,
00:12:30but we can talk about that a little bit later on.
00:12:32Marsha Thomason plays, of course,
00:12:35the Ice Queen, Vanessa and Nessa Holt.
00:12:39Just stellar performance.
00:12:41And you can tell,
00:12:42in every time she's on screen,
00:12:45really after the first episode,
00:12:49that she's having the time of her life.
00:12:50The first episode,
00:12:51she is very in the Ice Queen role.
00:12:54And she does continue that when she needs to in the series.
00:12:59However, somewhere between episode one and two,
00:13:03somebody said,
00:13:04okay, have fun.
00:13:06And you can see the joy for being around her cast members
00:13:10on screen with her.
00:13:12And it's just incredible and magic to watch.
00:13:16Going back a little bit,
00:13:17Gary Scott Thompson said that he had that dead man
00:13:20in the desert image in his head for 15 years.
00:13:22And originally in his head,
00:13:24it was supposed to be in a graveyard of slot machines.
00:13:27But NBC said,
00:13:28no, we're not going to do that.
00:13:29I'd actually kind of like to see the slot machine graveyard,
00:13:32if I'm being perfectly honest.
00:13:34But I'm sure,
00:13:35worst case scenario,
00:13:36that was a budgetary issue.
00:13:37In the first part of the script,
00:13:39everything is as scripted,
00:13:42according to Gary Scott Thompson.
00:13:43He wanted to make a mini movie every week.
00:13:45And that really is what Las Vegas is.
00:13:49All of the shots are done at the Mandalay Bay,
00:13:51at least for the pilot.
00:13:52And there's a couple other shots
00:13:53that you'll see a little bit later
00:13:55in the first season that's at Mandalay Bay
00:13:57before their full set is actually built
00:13:59into the second season.
00:14:01Whoosh past Marsha Thomason,
00:14:03up the elevator.
00:14:04That's a great whoosh up the elevator.
00:14:06That's a great whoosh through the dining cart
00:14:09into the hotel room.
00:14:12And there you see two people on bed having sex.
00:14:16You get to see the hands go all the way down the body.
00:14:19The rose on the lower back.
00:14:22It's not quite a tramp stamp.
00:14:25It's over to the hip.
00:14:26And Molly Sims on the commentary asked
00:14:28if you could see her boobs in the reflection on the screen.
00:14:31Gary Scott Thompson says no.
00:14:32If you actually kind of, yeah.
00:14:35But out of the elevator comes some henchmen.
00:14:39We don't know who these people are.
00:14:41We're assuming maybe Mob.
00:14:42They're all in suits.
00:14:43You see the side of James Caan's head.
00:14:46What an intro that is
00:14:49for the legendary James Caan.
00:14:52Godfather.
00:14:55Come on.
00:14:57Come on.
00:14:58Sonny Corleone.
00:14:59Come on.
00:15:01That's all that should be said.
00:15:04That's all that should be said.
00:15:05But for you younger kids,
00:15:08the dad from Elf.
00:15:11What more is there to say?
00:15:13James Caan is just amazing.
00:15:14He plays Big Ed DeLine,
00:15:17the head of security for the Montecito.
00:15:20He is just an incredibly strong figure on this show.
00:15:25An anchor, really.
00:15:26Especially on a show like this
00:15:28with a cast that's really full of young people.
00:15:32Now, obviously, there's a lot of
00:15:35really experience by the time you get to this show.
00:15:38Right?
00:15:38Josh Duhamel's done soaps.
00:15:40Vanessa Marcelle's done soaps.
00:15:42Nikki Cox has had a whole career before this.
00:15:45James LeJure has had a whole career before this.
00:15:47But they're all still young.
00:15:49Especially compared to James Caan,
00:15:52who's obviously older than the rest of the crew
00:15:55and has a lot more and deeper,
00:15:59wider range of acting skills.
00:16:01He's got the gravitas to really anchor this series.
00:16:06And you see that with good casts of young people.
00:16:10There's usually a good cast of older actors
00:16:14with some experience,
00:16:15with some gravitas to balance out the show.
00:16:19For an example, I'll give you that 70s show.
00:16:23Kurtwood Smith was a great anchor
00:16:26for everybody else that he was playing around.
00:16:31Right?
00:16:32Deborah Jo Rupp, a great anchor
00:16:33with everybody else they were playing around.
00:16:35So you get that here with James Caan.
00:16:38And especially with the...
00:16:40Because you need that.
00:16:41You need a straight man.
00:16:42And especially in this first episode,
00:16:43he's very much a straight man with an edge.
00:16:47So Big Ed is walking down the hall.
00:16:50Molly Sims and Josh Duhamel.
00:16:53We don't know who these people are just yet.
00:16:56But then the card goes in.
00:16:58Molly turns her head.
00:17:02Hi, Daddy.
00:17:07Daddy.
00:17:08And there you see Big Ed and Polly
00:17:11looking over Josh Duhamel's face for the first time
00:17:14like he can't believe it.
00:17:16Great way to intro the cast.
00:17:18Let's talk about Polly here for half a second.
00:17:20Polly is an unfortunate casualty
00:17:22of how good other cast members are.
00:17:26Because Molly Sims and Marsha Thomason
00:17:30really weren't supposed...
00:17:31Like, their roles apparently,
00:17:33according to Gary Scott Thompson on the DVDs,
00:17:35really wasn't supposed to be
00:17:36as permanent as they were,
00:17:39as big as they were.
00:17:39And Polly really was supposed to be
00:17:41on the show as a regular.
00:17:44Thinking about this,
00:17:45I don't know how that would have worked
00:17:47with the balance.
00:17:47I like the idea of a Polly
00:17:49because he's somewhat more tied to older Vegas,
00:17:55even though Ed is tied to older Vegas.
00:17:57But as I think about it,
00:17:58as I've thought about it over the years,
00:17:59I don't know.
00:18:01I like Ed more not needing a Polly behind him.
00:18:05I like Ed more not needing that backup
00:18:08to follow him all up and down.
00:18:10Now, I guess maybe realistically,
00:18:12a guy like that would need backup, right?
00:18:14Like, or somebody around him for protection.
00:18:18I don't know.
00:18:19I like...
00:18:19It adds a bit more to the mystique of Big Ed
00:18:22that, you know, he could let Polly...
00:18:24I like to think of my headcanon,
00:18:26Polly retired after this first episode.
00:18:28Let's talk about this theme song.
00:18:32In the network version,
00:18:33this is another clue on how you'll see
00:18:34a network version.
00:18:35If you just happen to be floating around
00:18:37a part of the internet that has it,
00:18:38even though they probably shouldn't,
00:18:40if it's a network version,
00:18:42it'll have A Little Less Conversation
00:18:43by Elvis Presley,
00:18:44not the newer one with JXL,
00:18:46which came out around this time.
00:18:47The more club version.
00:18:49Not that mix.
00:18:50The original, A Little Less Conversation,
00:18:52is the one that plays
00:18:53on the network version,
00:18:56including the TNT version,
00:18:59as well as the first episode
00:19:01of every season on the DVD.
00:19:04Only the first episode.
00:19:06I guess it was a rights issue.
00:19:07They didn't want to put it
00:19:08in all the other episodes.
00:19:09I don't know.
00:19:10However, in all the other episodes,
00:19:12we get the Charlie Closor song,
00:19:16Let It Ride.
00:19:16Charlie Closor of Nine Inch Nails
00:19:18did the background music
00:19:20and a lot of the music for Las Vegas,
00:19:23a lot of the production stuff
00:19:23for Las Vegas,
00:19:25and a lot of other shows.
00:19:26Charlie Closor made a killing
00:19:28doing TV music.
00:19:31And by the way,
00:19:31that is a whole industry.
00:19:32You have Gary Portnoy who did it.
00:19:34You have W.G. Snuffy Walden who did it.
00:19:38And Charlie Closor found his way there,
00:19:39especially with a lot of the cooler shows
00:19:41from the early 2000s.
00:19:43And some movies, too.
00:19:44He did some very good work.
00:19:46I followed and have a few of the songs
00:19:50that he's written for some of these productions
00:19:52that came out as theme songs.
00:19:54They were fantastic.
00:19:55They were amazing.
00:19:55Charlie Closor does Let It Ride,
00:19:58which you will hear on every other episode
00:20:01after the pilot if you get the DVD.
00:20:03You will also hear it on the Peacock.
00:20:06You will also hear it
00:20:07on international showings of Las Vegas.
00:20:11Again, rights issues
00:20:13with a little less conversation.
00:20:15I personally love Let It Ride.
00:20:18For my personal money,
00:20:21just my personal opinion,
00:20:23I like Let It Ride more
00:20:25than I like A Little Less Conversation.
00:20:28In part because,
00:20:29and I remember around this time,
00:20:31A Little Less Conversation
00:20:34started to be a little played out
00:20:36because everyone,
00:20:39everyone put A Little Less Conversation
00:20:43on a whole lot of shows
00:20:48and movies and commercials,
00:20:49especially if it had anything to do
00:20:52with gambling or cards or Vegas.
00:20:54they loved that song.
00:20:58They loved it around that time.
00:21:01It was mega.
00:21:04And as much as I like that song,
00:21:06I like A Little Less Conversation,
00:21:08A Little Less than Let It Ride.
00:21:10I really enjoy Let It Ride.
00:21:12I really enjoy the DVD music
00:21:15that you get,
00:21:16the menu music on the DVD.
00:21:18No guilt,
00:21:20no shame,
00:21:21no pity.
00:21:21I love that song.
00:21:23Can't find it anywhere.
00:21:25I love that song.
00:21:26So,
00:21:26I'm a fan of Let It Ride,
00:21:28but
00:21:29A Little Less Conversation
00:21:30is not a bad song.
00:21:32The very first thing we see
00:21:33is Nikki Cox
00:21:34blowing on some dice
00:21:35and why wouldn't you?
00:21:36That is a great hook
00:21:38in 2003.
00:21:39That is a fantastic hook.
00:21:40The dice go down the crap table
00:21:42and you see my favorite shot
00:21:44of the entire show,
00:21:46if we're being perfectly honest,
00:21:47certainly of the intro
00:21:48after the dice finished rolling,
00:21:52the panoramic,
00:21:53not panoramic,
00:21:54the kind of,
00:21:54the whirly bird,
00:21:56I don't know,
00:21:56it's not whirly bird.
00:21:58It's not panoramic
00:21:59because panoramic to me
00:22:01seems like you need a wider view.
00:22:02It's a shot that wraps around
00:22:04Ed and Danny
00:22:06with the lights underneath them.
00:22:09You got some shadows.
00:22:10I like to call that,
00:22:11they had like the kind of
00:22:12Triple H lighting.
00:22:14I'm a wrestling fan.
00:22:15For those of you who know Triple H,
00:22:17Paul LeVest,
00:22:17Conor Hurst-Hemsley,
00:22:18when he first turned back
00:22:20into a bad guy
00:22:21after being with
00:22:22Degeneration X,
00:22:23when he first became
00:22:25a bad guy again in 1999,
00:22:27he started coming out
00:22:28to this almost futuristic
00:22:30sort of intro
00:22:32where he'd stop
00:22:33in the entranceway
00:22:34and lights would shine on him
00:22:35from different directions
00:22:36that made him
00:22:38and whoever he was
00:22:39accompanying to the ring with
00:22:40look almost as if
00:22:41they were androids
00:22:43in the case
00:22:43in a lot of these
00:22:45big action movies
00:22:46that were being brought
00:22:47to life suddenly
00:22:48and that's kind of
00:22:50the framing that you get
00:22:52with Big Ed and Danny
00:22:54and that shot
00:22:55wrapping around
00:22:57them staring off
00:22:58looking into the casino
00:22:59like it's theirs
00:23:01and they're in full control of it.
00:23:03I love that shot.
00:23:04That is my favorite shot
00:23:05and then we go back
00:23:06to the Mandalay Bay
00:23:07and we get the intro here
00:23:08and it's fantastic.
00:23:09Marsha Thomason
00:23:10tossing the cards
00:23:12with the...
00:23:13Did she have a perm
00:23:13in that shot
00:23:14and only in that shot?
00:23:15I'm not sure.
00:23:17But she did.
00:23:18And we get the intros.
00:23:19The intros are fantastic.
00:23:21The credits
00:23:21have a very 60s, 70s vibe
00:23:24which goes with
00:23:25the Little S
00:23:27conversation music.
00:23:29It reminds me
00:23:30of shots that you would see
00:23:32in the old
00:23:32Hawaii Five-0 intro.
00:23:34It reminds me of shots
00:23:35you would see in
00:23:36Magnum P.I.
00:23:37in the 80s
00:23:38which is a show
00:23:39that Gary Scott Thompson
00:23:41references on the
00:23:42DVD commentary
00:23:43particularly with
00:23:44their voiceovers
00:23:45and how well they did them.
00:23:46The voiceovers
00:23:47we see the mechanic here
00:23:48with Danny
00:23:49as he's sort of narrating
00:23:50the first
00:23:51at least few episodes
00:23:52of the season.
00:23:53That wears off
00:23:55and fades away
00:23:55pretty quickly.
00:23:56This was in an era
00:23:57where voiceovers
00:23:58were making a comeback
00:24:00in 2003.
00:24:02Scrubs
00:24:02was doing voiceovers
00:24:04and did them
00:24:05for the remainder
00:24:06of the original series.
00:24:08And I think they tried
00:24:09to bring them back
00:24:09for the other series
00:24:10as well.
00:24:11I can't remember much
00:24:12about that ninth season.
00:24:15Anyway,
00:24:16voiceovers were making
00:24:17a big comeback
00:24:18in this era
00:24:19especially as you got
00:24:21more producers
00:24:22and creators
00:24:23who were thinking
00:24:23like Gary Scott Thompson
00:24:24was and wanted to make
00:24:26their show
00:24:26seem more cinematic.
00:24:28But the intro
00:24:29was very 60s,
00:24:32very 70s,
00:24:33very 80s,
00:24:33very that kind of
00:24:34older school style
00:24:35which fit in
00:24:37with not only the intro
00:24:38but with the show itself.
00:24:39Las Vegas would
00:24:40to me
00:24:41sort of almost
00:24:42resemble a show
00:24:42like The Love Boat
00:24:43where you had
00:24:45this essential crew
00:24:46of people
00:24:47that were running
00:24:48this now stationary
00:24:51sort of plot of heaven
00:24:53where all these
00:24:54different guests
00:24:55could come in
00:24:55and have all these
00:24:57sort of different
00:24:58type adventures
00:24:59every week
00:24:59and sometimes
00:25:01it would affect
00:25:02the cast,
00:25:02sometimes it wouldn't
00:25:03affect the cast
00:25:04but that doesn't
00:25:04necessarily matter
00:25:05because you could
00:25:06have all these
00:25:07sort of fantastical
00:25:08adventures
00:25:09every single week
00:25:10in this one location
00:25:11because it's a
00:25:13destination type show
00:25:15and you could have
00:25:16all these
00:25:17grand adventures.
00:25:19So we go back
00:25:19to the hotel.
00:25:20Ed's goons
00:25:21put their guns away
00:25:22because they detected
00:25:23a weapon in there.
00:25:24Delinda says,
00:25:25Well, we did have
00:25:26a weapon, Daddy.
00:25:27Just not the gun
00:25:28you're thinking.
00:25:29Which is,
00:25:30oh,
00:25:30wow,
00:25:33geez.
00:25:34A couple questions
00:25:35though.
00:25:36If she was staying
00:25:37at Danny's place,
00:25:39why did they have
00:25:39to go to the hotel
00:25:41room?
00:25:41And I'm just answering
00:25:42my own question
00:25:43because she,
00:25:44there's a whole reason
00:25:45why she's in Vegas
00:25:45in the first place.
00:25:46She was off studying
00:25:47somewhere but she
00:25:48got bored.
00:25:49And I'm sure
00:25:50Delinda the line
00:25:51in the first couple
00:25:53of episodes
00:25:54gets bored
00:25:56very easily.
00:25:59We all know
00:26:00what I'm talking
00:26:01about.
00:26:03Delinda the line.
00:26:04It comes up,
00:26:05I think,
00:26:05in the very next
00:26:06episode.
00:26:06We all know
00:26:07what I'm talking
00:26:07about.
00:26:08Delinda gets
00:26:09bored easily.
00:26:10She's the type
00:26:10of girl who
00:26:11gets bored
00:26:12easily.
00:26:13Actually,
00:26:13maybe not the
00:26:14next episode
00:26:14but it's probably
00:26:15episode three
00:26:15or four.
00:26:17She's bored easily.
00:26:18So,
00:26:18of course,
00:26:19going over to
00:26:20Danny's place
00:26:20isn't enough.
00:26:21She has to have
00:26:22Danny break into
00:26:23a suite in the
00:26:24hotel and,
00:26:25of course,
00:26:26Danny's going
00:26:26to do it
00:26:27because he's just
00:26:28a goofy
00:26:2920-something
00:26:30year old kid
00:26:30and she's
00:26:32Molly Sims
00:26:33for crying out
00:26:34loud.
00:26:34Now,
00:26:34Molly Sims,
00:26:35according to
00:26:35the commentary,
00:26:36got the role
00:26:37because of
00:26:39Gary Scott Thompson's
00:26:39wife.
00:26:40Gary Scott Thompson
00:26:41then sent a link
00:26:42to Molly Sims'
00:26:43Sports Illustrated
00:26:44pics to NBC.
00:26:46NBC asked him
00:26:47can she act
00:26:48and he said
00:26:48do we care?
00:26:50And,
00:26:50lo and behold,
00:26:53for Delinda the line,
00:26:55she actually
00:26:55can act.
00:26:56Delinda the line
00:26:57is a character.
00:26:58You love
00:27:00Delinda,
00:27:01you are,
00:27:01you don't ever
00:27:02really hate
00:27:03Delinda.
00:27:04You get
00:27:05believably
00:27:07and affably
00:27:09frustrated with
00:27:10the flightiness
00:27:11of Delinda the line
00:27:12at places,
00:27:13but you never
00:27:14hate her.
00:27:15You never hate
00:27:15her for it.
00:27:16You just kind of,
00:27:17you, she's got
00:27:19a charm to her
00:27:20and, again,
00:27:21just like I
00:27:21mentioned with
00:27:22Mike Cannon,
00:27:23a lot of that
00:27:24might just be
00:27:24Molly Sims,
00:27:25a lot of that
00:27:25might be the writing.
00:27:26Pauly is
00:27:28taking Danny
00:27:29back to surveillance
00:27:30and Pauly,
00:27:32like I mentioned,
00:27:33is one of these
00:27:33characters that's
00:27:34going to disappear
00:27:35after this pilot.
00:27:36He's one of two
00:27:38actually cast
00:27:39casualties.
00:27:40The other one
00:27:40really is
00:27:41the Ice Man.
00:27:43Now,
00:27:43who's the Ice Man?
00:27:44Well,
00:27:44the Ice Man
00:27:45was supposed to be
00:27:47Nessa's character,
00:27:48but Nessa came in
00:27:50and she was too good
00:27:51and then the Ice Man
00:27:51became the Ice Queen.
00:27:53We'll get into the Ice Man
00:27:54a little bit later.
00:27:55As Danny goes
00:27:55into security
00:27:56and surveillance,
00:27:57he's instantly met
00:27:58with military reference
00:27:59by Big Ed DeLine.
00:28:02Now,
00:28:02Gary Scott Thompson
00:28:03mentions that they
00:28:04outgrew the military
00:28:05references
00:28:05and I kind of agree.
00:28:07The show flows
00:28:09better without it
00:28:10and it also flows
00:28:11a little bit better
00:28:11when even though
00:28:13Danny is the
00:28:14main protagonist,
00:28:15we get more access
00:28:17to seeing more
00:28:18of the casino
00:28:19and more of
00:28:20these characters
00:28:21outside of Danny.
00:28:22Danny being the whole
00:28:24glue that holds
00:28:25everything together
00:28:26is great,
00:28:27but him being the one
00:28:28with the voiceover
00:28:30doesn't quite work
00:28:31for a show
00:28:32like Las Vegas
00:28:33as opposed to
00:28:35the way it works
00:28:36for a show
00:28:36like Scrubs,
00:28:37also on NBC
00:28:38at the time.
00:28:39Here we get a security guy
00:28:40doing exposition
00:28:41down on the security floor
00:28:43of our big cheater
00:28:44and of Mr. Bunny Shoes.
00:28:47Now,
00:28:48initially I'm like,
00:28:49is that Mitch?
00:28:51Initially I was like,
00:28:51is that Mitch?
00:28:52He sounds like Mitch.
00:28:53Not quite Mitch.
00:28:54We don't see Mitch
00:28:55just yet,
00:28:56but we do see
00:28:57a bit of exposition.
00:28:59Danny then is asked
00:29:02by Big Ed,
00:29:04I'm asking you
00:29:05as head of security,
00:29:08do you,
00:29:08this is my Big Ed impression
00:29:10by the way,
00:29:10this isn't NBC
00:29:11don't come after me.
00:29:12I know my impression
00:29:13is good.
00:29:14Now,
00:29:15do you
00:29:16sleep
00:29:18with
00:29:18women
00:29:19whose background
00:29:21you don't know
00:29:21because if you do,
00:29:23that becomes
00:29:24a big security risk.
00:29:27And then
00:29:28Danny says,
00:29:30no,
00:29:31and then
00:29:31Ed replies with,
00:29:33so it's just
00:29:34my daughter then.
00:29:35Ah,
00:29:36what a shot.
00:29:38He walks right into that one.
00:29:39Danny then talks about
00:29:40how he wants to leave
00:29:41for a double shift,
00:29:42but then is thrown
00:29:44on all these different tasks
00:29:45which makes me wonder
00:29:46how is he still
00:29:49standing
00:29:50at all?
00:29:52Now,
00:29:53Big Ed again
00:29:54mentions you didn't seem like
00:29:55you didn't seem like
00:29:56you needed rest
00:29:5720 minutes ago.
00:29:58Another great shot.
00:30:00However,
00:30:01Ed knows,
00:30:03and this is really
00:30:04him kneeling him
00:30:04because
00:30:05as a former
00:30:0720-something year old
00:30:08male myself,
00:30:08I will tell you,
00:30:10you can be dead tired
00:30:12in your 20s.
00:30:15And
00:30:15if
00:30:16the Linda DeLine
00:30:18fellas
00:30:19comes to you
00:30:20after a 48-hour shift
00:30:21and you say,
00:30:23or after a 24-hour shift
00:30:24and you say,
00:30:28nah,
00:30:28I think I'll pass.
00:30:29After a double shift,
00:30:30you say,
00:30:31after a 68-hour shift,
00:30:33nah,
00:30:33are you gonna,
00:30:34are you gonna say no?
00:30:35You're not gonna say no.
00:30:37You're not gonna say no.
00:30:38Especially now
00:30:39with energy drinks
00:30:40as big as they are.
00:30:41You're not gonna say no.
00:30:42You're gonna grab yourself
00:30:42a fistful of Red Bulls
00:30:43and you're gonna go
00:30:45find yourself a suite.
00:30:46Big Ed welcomes him
00:30:47to the family
00:30:48and
00:30:49sends him off
00:30:51on his errands
00:30:52for the day.
00:30:53Finding out
00:30:54who the cheater is,
00:30:55what's the deal
00:30:55with Mr. Bunny's shoes,
00:30:57what's up with
00:30:58the whale
00:30:58that's missing,
00:31:00what's up with
00:31:01Mr. and Mrs. Johnson
00:31:02for their 30th anniversary,
00:31:04and
00:31:04the cowgirl
00:31:06exhibitionist
00:31:07in the elevator.
00:31:08Now this,
00:31:09Agorio DeGarrett Scott Thompson,
00:31:11is a story
00:31:11of a young starlet
00:31:13around that time
00:31:14who
00:31:15really was doing
00:31:16stuff like this.
00:31:17Now,
00:31:18I'm sure
00:31:19I looked it up
00:31:20back then.
00:31:21I'm sure
00:31:21I looked it up.
00:31:22And there was an old
00:31:23Las Vegas message board.
00:31:25And I'm gonna be,
00:31:25actually,
00:31:26for whatever I can find
00:31:27in the Wayback Machine
00:31:28on this board,
00:31:30because it does
00:31:31still exist
00:31:32on the Wayback Machine
00:31:33and some of the pages
00:31:34are still open.
00:31:35So I am,
00:31:36throughout the podcast,
00:31:37gonna be using that
00:31:37as a reference point.
00:31:38I haven't been able
00:31:39to find anything
00:31:39about this particular
00:31:41starlet exhibitionist,
00:31:42but I'm sure
00:31:43it was a topic
00:31:44of discussion back then.
00:31:45This was,
00:31:46the message board
00:31:46was lasvegas-theseries.com
00:31:50was what it was.
00:31:51And it was,
00:31:51I loved that message board.
00:31:53This is,
00:31:54the message board days,
00:31:55kids.
00:31:55Yes,
00:31:56I love that message board.
00:31:57It was a fantastic message board.
00:31:58Anybody listening to this
00:31:59from the old
00:32:00Las Vegas-theseries
00:32:01message board?
00:32:03Yes,
00:32:04I'm still the same
00:32:04Surreal 469.
00:32:05I was Surreal 469
00:32:07on that too.
00:32:08But the exhibitionist
00:32:09Cowgirl,
00:32:10according to Gary Scott Thompson,
00:32:11like a lot of the people
00:32:12on this particular episode,
00:32:14as a matter of fact,
00:32:15most of the stories
00:32:17are based on real people,
00:32:18right?
00:32:19The cheater
00:32:20is based on a real person.
00:32:21Mr. Bunny Shoes
00:32:22is based on a real person.
00:32:23The exhibitionist
00:32:24Cowgirl
00:32:25is based on a real person.
00:32:27Mike Cannon
00:32:27being an engineer
00:32:28who turns into a valet
00:32:30is based on a real person.
00:32:31A lot of these
00:32:32are based on
00:32:33real people,
00:32:34real instances
00:32:35that have happened
00:32:36that he found out
00:32:37in his discovery
00:32:38of Las Vegas
00:32:40and his research
00:32:43into all sorts
00:32:45of different stories
00:32:46that can be told
00:32:47on the Las Vegas show.
00:32:49Fast forward,
00:32:50Danny is running
00:32:51through the casino.
00:32:52He walks past the hookers
00:32:53at the end of the bar
00:32:54and he meets
00:32:55Mary.
00:32:57Nikki Cox.
00:32:59The girl
00:33:00next door,
00:33:02best friend
00:33:02since they were
00:33:03two years old,
00:33:05each other's first kiss,
00:33:06each other's first everything,
00:33:07each other's first love.
00:33:08Now
00:33:09is not the time
00:33:11to talk about
00:33:12my idea
00:33:13of Danny and Mary.
00:33:15We'll get there.
00:33:16Danny reveals
00:33:17that Mary is not a hooker.
00:33:18However,
00:33:19in the original script,
00:33:21according to Gary Scott Thompson,
00:33:22Nikki Cox.
00:33:23Yes, she was.
00:33:24Which
00:33:25changes the dynamic
00:33:27of the whole show.
00:33:28A lot of this
00:33:29changes the dynamic
00:33:30of the whole show.
00:33:30What if Polly
00:33:31had stayed?
00:33:32What if Mary
00:33:32had stayed a hooker?
00:33:34And how much
00:33:35did that play
00:33:35in the tragic backstory
00:33:37that Mary
00:33:38ended up having
00:33:39that we would find out
00:33:41in later episodes?
00:33:42Not even that much further
00:33:43down the series,
00:33:44but in later episodes.
00:33:46How did Mary
00:33:48get the tragic backstory
00:33:50to lead her
00:33:52into being a hooker?
00:33:53Did Gary Scott Thompson
00:33:54write her as a hooker
00:33:55and then create
00:33:56the backstory
00:33:57behind her
00:33:58so that she could be
00:33:59maybe more
00:34:00network friendly
00:34:00in 2003?
00:34:02Obviously,
00:34:03Nikki Cox
00:34:03liked the role.
00:34:04She said
00:34:05in the commentary
00:34:06that just reading
00:34:07the script
00:34:07and the way
00:34:08it was laid out,
00:34:09she knew that
00:34:09she wanted to be
00:34:09a part of it.
00:34:10What dynamic
00:34:11does that change
00:34:13for Danny
00:34:14and Mary
00:34:15in their backstory
00:34:17if Mary
00:34:18is a hooker
00:34:20now?
00:34:21All these questions.
00:34:23All these questions.
00:34:24Now, of course,
00:34:25in Clark County
00:34:26where Las Vegas is,
00:34:27hooking is not legal.
00:34:29So, as much as Danny
00:34:31in, again,
00:34:32this is 2003,
00:34:33as much as Danny
00:34:34may have known
00:34:35about the hookers,
00:34:36et cetera,
00:34:36realistically,
00:34:37they're not supposed
00:34:38to be on the premises
00:34:39conducting business.
00:34:42Same today.
00:34:44Yada, yada, yada.
00:34:45Things happen.
00:34:47People may not look
00:34:48in general directions
00:34:50for various reasons
00:34:52and we'll actually see
00:34:52that later in the show.
00:34:53Not this episode,
00:34:54but in the show
00:34:55as well.
00:34:56They mention Greg.
00:34:59Pay attention to that.
00:35:00They mention Greg.
00:35:02That's a little hint.
00:35:03We'll pick that up
00:35:04as we move along.
00:35:07So, Danny talks
00:35:08to Mary for a little bit
00:35:09looking for his whale
00:35:10and Mary's date
00:35:13comes back
00:35:13and that's when
00:35:15we all think
00:35:16that she's a hooker
00:35:17but she's not.
00:35:18She's executive director
00:35:20of parties
00:35:22and events
00:35:22event coordinator.
00:35:24Danny gets
00:35:25to talk to Nessa.
00:35:27Here we get
00:35:28to hear
00:35:28from Marsha Thomason
00:35:30for the first time
00:35:31in the show
00:35:31and her accent
00:35:33is just sublime
00:35:36and it really
00:35:36got her the role.
00:35:37She initially read
00:35:38for Sam
00:35:39and she read for Sam
00:35:40in an American accent.
00:35:41She read for Sam's assistant
00:35:42in a Cockney accent.
00:35:45Gary Scott Thompson
00:35:46is told
00:35:47that
00:35:48our girl Marsha
00:35:50is actually British
00:35:51and so
00:35:52he runs out
00:35:54to her
00:35:54as she's leaving
00:35:55the audition
00:35:56and asks her
00:35:56to read it again
00:35:57in her British accent.
00:35:59Yada, yada, yada.
00:36:00The Ice Queen
00:36:01is born.
00:36:02I was talked about
00:36:02how we get to hear
00:36:04more of the playfulness
00:36:04later
00:36:05but we actually
00:36:05get to hear it
00:36:06early on
00:36:07in this first bit
00:36:08because
00:36:09here comes Marsha
00:36:10dropping the Ice Queen
00:36:12with the
00:36:13So when are you going
00:36:14to show me
00:36:14the sights of Vegas
00:36:15like you promised?
00:36:17That's it.
00:36:18I'm in love.
00:36:18That's it.
00:36:19I'm in love.
00:36:20I'm in love.
00:36:21That's it.
00:36:22I don't need to
00:36:22that's it.
00:36:23That's come on.
00:36:24That's the finishing move.
00:36:26That's the tombstone
00:36:28piledriver
00:36:28in the middle of the ring.
00:36:29That's it.
00:36:29I'm in love.
00:36:30When are you going
00:36:30to show me
00:36:31the sights of Vegas?
00:36:32What an accent.
00:36:33What an accent.
00:36:34So Danny goes
00:36:35to find
00:36:35the big whale
00:36:37and
00:36:37we hear
00:36:39him
00:36:40get a bit
00:36:41of exhibition
00:36:41from the butler
00:36:42who according
00:36:43to GST
00:36:44Gary Scott Thompson
00:36:45on the commentary
00:36:46they had to ADR
00:36:47his voice in.
00:36:48He was with
00:36:49some female companions
00:36:50in one of the
00:36:51jacuzzi filled
00:36:52with Tattinger.
00:36:541990 vintage.
00:36:55$400 a bottle.
00:36:58I had to send
00:36:58guys all over town
00:36:59to get enough.
00:37:00To drink?
00:37:01No, to bathe in.
00:37:03And they ADR'd him
00:37:04with a
00:37:04very famous
00:37:05at the time
00:37:06voice actor
00:37:07who did
00:37:08a lot of commercials.
00:37:09You heard him
00:37:09for the
00:37:10more refined
00:37:11commercials
00:37:12for
00:37:13more expensive
00:37:14cars
00:37:15like Lexus.
00:37:16The Lexus.
00:37:17December to
00:37:17remember sales event.
00:37:19Then we get to
00:37:20see
00:37:21Mike Cannon.
00:37:22We get to hear
00:37:23his exposition
00:37:24about his degrees
00:37:25and once again
00:37:26based on a real
00:37:27person
00:37:27and the line
00:37:30that gets
00:37:30James Lejour
00:37:31the job.
00:37:32Oh,
00:37:33big ass daughter.
00:37:34Are you crazy?
00:37:35Great line.
00:37:36Great line.
00:37:37And any
00:37:38I'm telling you
00:37:38Mike Cannon
00:37:39to me
00:37:40is the
00:37:41he's the character.
00:37:42He's the guy.
00:37:43He's the guy
00:37:43on this show.
00:37:45Mike Cannon
00:37:45is the coolest
00:37:46guy on this show.
00:37:48He invites
00:37:49Danny to his house
00:37:51for a barbecue
00:37:51at the end
00:37:52of the episode
00:37:54which we will see
00:37:54and we will see
00:37:55some more casualties
00:37:56of the pilot episode.
00:37:59We'll get into that.
00:38:00We'll be getting to that.
00:38:01As Danny
00:38:02goes off
00:38:03to dinner
00:38:04with Big Ed
00:38:05and Jillian.
00:38:06Jillian
00:38:07played by
00:38:08Cheryl Ladd.
00:38:09Folks,
00:38:11when it comes
00:38:11to beautiful women
00:38:12in the
00:38:14beautiful talented
00:38:15women on this show
00:38:16Las Vegas
00:38:17just
00:38:19it starts
00:38:20with the heavy artillery
00:38:21and they're not missing.
00:38:23They just
00:38:23shot off
00:38:24just hit after hit
00:38:25after hit.
00:38:26Legendary
00:38:26Cheryl Ladd
00:38:27for crying out loud
00:38:28coming in
00:38:29and playing
00:38:29Jillian DeLine
00:38:30is amazing.
00:38:32Now I
00:38:33sat here
00:38:34and I watched this
00:38:35and in
00:38:36repeat viewings
00:38:38it really does
00:38:39occur to me
00:38:39and this goes back
00:38:40to what I was talking
00:38:41about with Pauly.
00:38:42Pauly's just gonna
00:38:43sit there and watch
00:38:44Big Ed eat
00:38:45and Big Ed
00:38:46and his family eat
00:38:47so Pauly is
00:38:48Big Ed's bodyguard
00:38:49but why does
00:38:50a guy like
00:38:51Big Ed
00:38:52need a bodyguard
00:38:53at that particular
00:38:54point?
00:38:55He's not like
00:38:56a lot of other
00:38:58big names
00:38:59in Vegas.
00:38:59He's got
00:39:00a CIA background.
00:39:01They sort of
00:39:03build him up
00:39:04as this
00:39:04old school
00:39:05not quite
00:39:06but almost
00:39:07super soldier.
00:39:08It makes him
00:39:10more intimidating
00:39:11that he doesn't
00:39:12need bodyguards
00:39:13around him.
00:39:14So then we go
00:39:15to the dinner scene
00:39:16with Big Ed
00:39:17and Jillian
00:39:17waiting for
00:39:19Danny to come in.
00:39:21Apparently this was
00:39:22shot over Ghost Bar
00:39:23and the club
00:39:24was hopping
00:39:25at
00:39:261 o'clock
00:39:27in the morning
00:39:27and they
00:39:29somehow managed
00:39:30to do this
00:39:30without hearing
00:39:32the latest
00:39:32dubstep song
00:39:34bleeding into
00:39:35all the audio.
00:39:37Now Delinda
00:39:37was originally
00:39:38supposed to be
00:39:39just a recurring
00:39:41character
00:39:42and we talked
00:39:43about this
00:39:43a little bit
00:39:43before
00:39:44about some
00:39:45of the casualties
00:39:45of the show.
00:39:46Pauly was one
00:39:46of the casualties
00:39:47of the show
00:39:47as was
00:39:49the guy
00:39:50who was supposed
00:39:51to be the
00:39:51Iceman
00:39:52who was originally
00:39:53supposed to actually
00:39:54be Danny's
00:39:54godfather.
00:39:56The character
00:39:56was supposed to
00:39:56be John Carlucci.
00:39:58In comes Marsha
00:39:59when are you
00:40:00going to
00:40:00show me
00:40:00the ice?
00:40:00It's a fight
00:40:01against Danny
00:40:01and the Iceman
00:40:02is dead.
00:40:04So Delinda
00:40:04was supposed
00:40:05to be a recurring
00:40:05character
00:40:06but in this
00:40:08scene
00:40:08which has
00:40:08the great
00:40:09just grape
00:40:11juice gulp
00:40:11by a young
00:40:13nervous
00:40:13Josh Duhamel
00:40:14which is so
00:40:16endearing
00:40:17and it's really
00:40:18topped off
00:40:19by Cheryl Ladd
00:40:20doing the quick
00:40:21hand over her
00:40:22mouth
00:40:22embarrassment
00:40:23sort of
00:40:25laughing
00:40:26at the
00:40:28innocence
00:40:29of this
00:40:29kid
00:40:30it's just
00:40:30great
00:40:31she really
00:40:31does make
00:40:32that scene
00:40:32but who also
00:40:33makes the scene
00:40:34is Molly
00:40:35Sims
00:40:35Delinda
00:40:36Line
00:40:37coming in
00:40:37to the track
00:40:39Voodoo Baby
00:40:40great track
00:40:41which spans
00:40:42over all the
00:40:43places you can
00:40:45find it
00:40:45if you can
00:40:45find Voodoo Baby
00:40:46find it
00:40:47it's a great
00:40:47track
00:40:48I love it
00:40:48the scene
00:40:49where she
00:40:49walks in
00:40:50and is doing
00:40:51the weird thing
00:40:52where she's got
00:40:52her purse
00:40:53but is putting
00:40:53on her jacket
00:40:54as she's walking
00:40:55which if you
00:40:56watch it
00:40:56and she says
00:40:57it in the
00:40:57commentary
00:40:58is really
00:40:58a little bit
00:40:58clumsy
00:40:59sort of
00:41:00direction
00:41:01but the
00:41:02network
00:41:02wanted her
00:41:03to have
00:41:04the coat
00:41:04on
00:41:05and GST
00:41:06wanted her
00:41:07to have
00:41:07the coat
00:41:07off
00:41:08and so
00:41:08they compromised
00:41:09with her
00:41:09putting the
00:41:09coat on
00:41:10during the
00:41:11scene
00:41:11anyway
00:41:13that got
00:41:14her the
00:41:14role
00:41:15that got
00:41:17her the
00:41:17role
00:41:17according to
00:41:18Gary Scott
00:41:19Thompson
00:41:19he sent
00:41:19that scene
00:41:20in to
00:41:21the network
00:41:21execs
00:41:22and she's
00:41:23a regular
00:41:23now
00:41:23in this
00:41:24scene
00:41:24we get
00:41:25a lot
00:41:25of exposition
00:41:26with
00:41:27Big Ed
00:41:29and
00:41:30Delinda
00:41:30and Delinda
00:41:32sort of
00:41:33being
00:41:33more of
00:41:34a
00:41:34almost
00:41:35bratty
00:41:36girl
00:41:36like

00:41:40Paris
00:41:40Hilton
00:41:40not even

00:41:42Hilton
00:41:42I don't
00:41:44think
00:41:44Paris
00:41:44Hilton
00:41:44had
00:41:45ever had

00:41:46she's
00:41:46she's
00:41:47she's

00:41:50is Delinda
00:41:50and
00:41:51she's

00:41:53somehow
00:41:53the daughter
00:41:54of
00:41:54one of
00:41:55these
00:41:56strictest
00:41:56guys
00:41:57maybe
00:41:58in the
00:41:58world
00:41:59in this
00:41:59scene
00:41:59we also
00:42:00get a
00:42:00little bit
00:42:01more
00:42:01into the
00:42:01family
00:42:01dynamic
00:42:02and really
00:42:03you kind
00:42:04of
00:42:04I can
00:42:05kind
00:42:05of
00:42:05tell

00:42:07bit
00:42:07of a
00:42:07Delinda

00:42:08the day
00:42:09and
00:42:10that's
00:42:11where
00:42:11Delinda

00:42:12from
00:42:12at the
00:42:13end
00:42:13of the

00:53:27delight
00:53:28a lot
00:53:28of times
00:53:29when
00:53:30in various
00:53:31episodes later
00:53:32on you'll
00:53:33see the
00:53:34show is
00:53:34working well
00:53:35the show is
00:53:35working fine
00:53:36but then

00:53:43every scene
00:53:43she's in
00:53:44she brings
00:53:44up to a
00:53:44different level
00:53:45whether it's
00:53:45more energetic
00:53:46whether it's

00:53:48whether it's

00:53:53like she
00:53:54brings so
00:53:55much to

00:54:06Jane
00:54:07and you
00:54:07really

00:54:08when she's
00:54:09firing off
00:54:09trying to
00:54:10negotiate
00:54:10with Danny

00:54:52a song
00:54:52called
00:54:52This Is It
00:54:53This Is It
00:54:54was later
00:54:56in a movie
00:54:57called
00:54:57Jimmy and June
00:54:58if you're
00:54:58looking for
00:54:59this song
00:55:01on YouTube
00:55:02you have to

00:55:04This Is It
00:55:04As Heard
00:55:05in Jimmy
00:55:05and Judy
00:55:06Did I say

00:55:07Judy
00:55:08Jimmy and Judy
00:55:09by Louis
00:55:11LaMedica
00:55:12This is one of
00:55:13those songs
00:55:13that if you go
00:55:14to Peacock
00:55:14it's not there
00:55:15They changed
00:55:16that song
00:55:17too
00:55:17In that
00:55:18scene
00:55:19where
00:55:19Sam and
00:55:20Danny
00:55:21are trying
00:55:21to get

00:55:22Shoes
00:55:22out of
00:55:23the suite
00:55:23you can
00:55:24tell that
00:55:25Sam
00:55:25actually looks
00:55:26at Danny
00:55:26differently
00:55:27when
00:55:29he's
00:55:30trying to
00:55:31convince Mr.
00:55:31Bunny
00:55:31Shoes
00:55:32to just walk
00:55:32away
00:55:32with his
00:55:33winnings
00:55:33and for
00:55:34somebody
00:55:34like Sam
00:55:35who is
00:55:36super
00:55:36cutthroat
00:55:37and all
00:55:37about money
00:55:37and all
00:55:38about the
00:55:39art of the
00:55:39deal
00:55:39mostly
00:55:40and we
00:55:41will see
00:55:41that later
00:55:42on in the
00:55:42series
00:55:43that's an
00:55:45interesting
00:55:45turn
00:55:46especially
00:55:46considering that
00:55:47at this
00:55:48point nobody
00:55:48knew a lot
00:55:49of the stuff
00:55:49about these
00:55:50characters
00:55:50but it was
00:55:51something about
00:55:52Vanessa
00:55:52Marcel
00:55:52that in
00:55:53that moment
00:55:54that kind
00:55:54of looking
00:55:55at him
00:55:56like he
00:55:57might actually
00:55:57be sincere
00:55:58he might
00:55:58actually be a
00:55:59nice guy
00:55:59he might
00:55:59not just
00:56:01be this
00:56:02typical guy
00:56:03who was just
00:56:03trying to sleep
00:56:04with me
00:56:04while I was
00:56:06trying to sleep
00:56:06with him
00:56:06for information
00:56:07so as Sam
00:56:08is dealing
00:56:09with a client
00:56:10on the phone
00:56:10and trying to
00:56:12figure things
00:56:12out she
00:56:13opens up
00:56:13her PDA
00:56:14and Danny
00:56:15is putting
00:56:16the pieces
00:56:16together of
00:56:17how the
00:56:18cheater is
00:56:18doing it
00:56:19and with
00:56:19whom
00:56:19the pieces
00:56:20together
00:56:21the bit
00:56:22about the
00:56:22valet
00:56:23all through
00:56:24the show
00:56:24who's been
00:56:25running around
00:56:26with a PDA
00:56:26and let's
00:56:27talk about
00:56:27this valet
00:56:28with a PDA
00:56:28even in 2003
00:56:29there's no way
00:56:31there's no way
00:56:33now GST
00:56:35says that
00:56:36this whole
00:56:37scam is based
00:56:38on a real
00:56:38scam that
00:56:39somebody tried
00:56:40to run in
00:56:40Vegas but
00:56:41didn't get
00:56:41nearly as far
00:56:42as the cheater
00:56:43on this show
00:56:43here's the thing
00:56:45that I find
00:56:45so hard
00:56:46to try to
00:56:47figure out
00:56:47it certainly
00:56:48wouldn't have
00:56:49been this
00:56:49obvious
00:56:50a valet
00:56:52walking around
00:56:52with a PDA
00:56:53while actually
00:56:54working and
00:56:55moving cars
00:56:56and such
00:56:56that doesn't
00:56:58work
00:56:58with an
00:56:58earpiece
00:56:59in his
00:56:59ear
00:56:59because
00:57:00bluetooth
00:57:00technology
00:57:01really wasn't
00:57:02a thing
00:57:03back in
00:57:042003
00:57:05that would
00:57:06not jive
00:57:07that would

00:57:33you could be
00:57:33fired for
00:57:34even if your
00:57:34job was just
00:57:36pushing papers
00:57:37even if your
00:57:37job was sitting
00:57:38at a computer
00:57:38on a spreadsheet
00:57:40entering data
00:57:41a lot of

00:57:54maybe you
00:57:55can get
00:57:56away with
00:57:56that
00:57:56but a
00:57:57handheld
00:57:57video

00:57:59the whole
00:57:59time too
00:57:59no
00:58:01no
00:58:01that's been
00:58:03a movie
00:58:03magic
00:58:03because there's
00:58:04no way
00:58:05like there's
00:58:06that story
00:58:07the story
00:58:08there's no way
00:58:08he had it
00:58:09out invisible
00:58:10like that
00:58:11constantly
00:58:12however he was
00:58:13trying to do it
00:58:14it couldn't have
00:58:14been like that
00:58:15maybe he was
00:58:16standing
00:58:16at the
00:58:17actual stand
00:58:18the whole time
00:58:19but he couldn't
00:58:20have been
00:58:20he couldn't
00:58:21have been
00:58:21driving cars
00:58:23in and out
00:58:23and still
00:58:25in front of
00:58:27his multiple
00:58:28versions of
00:58:28his boss
00:58:29and just get
00:58:30away with it
00:58:31there's no way
00:58:32Danny realizes
00:58:33the thing
00:58:33he offers
00:58:34Mr. Herman
00:58:35the whale
00:58:35a deal
00:58:36if he's gonna
00:58:37stick around
00:58:38the cheater
00:58:38goes in for
00:58:39one more hand
00:58:39and offer
00:58:40to double up
00:58:42on his way
00:58:43out
00:58:43and as he's
00:58:44doing this
00:58:45another thing
00:58:46I always thought
00:58:46is this is
00:58:47this is how
00:58:48these fools
00:58:48get caught
00:58:49is the sucker
00:58:50got greedy
00:58:51like
00:58:53at what
00:58:53point do
00:58:54you just
00:58:54walk away

00:58:57he has
00:58:57at this point
00:58:59as he's about
00:58:59to lose the
00:59:00money
00:59:00three and a half
00:59:01million dollars
00:59:01that is
00:59:03a ridiculous
00:59:04amount of
00:59:05money in
00:59:062003
00:59:06even if he
00:59:08has to share
00:59:08it with the
00:59:09valet
00:59:09that's over
00:59:10a million dollars
00:59:11each
00:59:11in comparison
00:59:12to inflation
00:59:13numbers
00:59:14that three and a
00:59:15half million
00:59:16dollars
00:59:17equals to
00:59:19about
00:59:20five point
00:59:21eight million
00:59:22dollars
00:59:22today
00:59:22a ridiculous
00:59:25amount of
00:59:26money in
00:59:262003
00:59:27they got
00:59:28greedy
00:59:29they wanted
00:59:30to take
00:59:30the whole

00:59:31and thought
00:59:33they could get

00:59:33taking out
00:59:34the whole
00:59:35casino
00:59:35at what point
00:59:37do you just
00:59:37walk away
00:59:38also also
00:59:39at what point
00:59:40does
00:59:41the
00:59:42valet
00:59:43not have a
00:59:44code
00:59:44do they not
00:59:44come up
00:59:45with a
00:59:45code word
00:59:45in case
00:59:46everything
00:59:46goes wrong
00:59:47in case
00:59:48the guy
00:59:50at the
00:59:50table
00:59:51doesn't hear
00:59:52something back
00:59:53in a certain
00:59:54amount of
00:59:55time
00:59:55or just
00:59:56here's a
00:59:56code word
00:59:57like yeah

01:00:10these guys
01:00:11but there
01:00:12isn't
01:00:12he gets
01:00:13caught
01:00:13and he
01:00:14goes
01:00:14all in
01:00:153.5
01:00:17now at
01:00:18this point
01:00:18Nessa's

01:00:247
01:00:24Nessa
01:00:26shows a
01:00:27queen
01:00:27he says
01:00:28hit me
01:00:28by the way
01:00:29Marcia
01:00:29Thomason hated
01:00:30the way her
01:00:30nails looked
01:00:31as she
01:00:31pulled out
01:00:31that card

01:00:34a king
01:00:35he gets
01:00:3522
01:00:36he gets
01:00:36the old
01:00:37Jake
01:00:37Roberts
01:00:3722
01:00:38instead of
01:00:3821
01:00:39in the
01:00:39meantime
01:00:40Danny
01:00:41goes back
01:00:41up to
01:00:41check out
01:00:41Mr.
01:00:42Bunny
01:00:42shoes
01:00:42who has
01:00:42gone
01:00:43back
01:00:43downstairs
01:00:44to the
01:00:45casino
01:00:45after
01:00:46Sam
01:00:47looks
01:00:48like she
01:00:50got him
01:00:50to switch
01:00:51rooms
01:00:51and Danny
01:00:52said
01:00:53no you
01:00:54didn't
01:00:54she said
01:00:54no
01:00:55she had
01:00:57to send
01:00:57a picture
01:00:57to his
01:00:58family
01:00:59to make
01:00:59sure
01:00:59that they
01:01:00knew
01:01:00that he
01:01:00was alright
01:01:01here come
01:01:01Mr.
01:01:02and Mrs.
01:01:02Johnson
01:01:02again
01:01:02in this
01:01:03scene
01:01:03according to
01:01:04Eric Scott
01:01:04Thompson
01:01:05was shot
01:01:05two ways
01:01:06one way
01:01:07is the
01:01:07way
01:01:07that we
01:01:07get to
01:01:08see
01:01:08and the
01:01:08other way
01:01:09is
01:01:09where Danny
01:01:11gives them
01:01:11advice
01:01:11and they
01:01:12go back
01:01:12to fighting
01:01:13again
01:01:13just because
01:01:15and that
01:01:15would have
01:01:16been the
01:01:16funnier
01:01:16scene
01:01:16however
01:01:17the NBC
01:01:18exec
01:01:19in one
01:01:20of the
01:01:20few
01:01:20times
01:01:21where a
01:01:22TV exec
01:01:23offers notes
01:01:23that actually
01:01:24pay off
01:01:25that are
01:01:25actually good
01:01:25notes
01:01:26says that
01:01:26he likes
01:01:27the scene
01:01:27where it
01:01:29works out
01:01:29at the
01:01:29end
01:01:30or Danny
01:01:31comes back
01:01:31and offers
01:01:32him a free
01:01:32dinner
01:01:33at the
01:01:34Venetian
01:01:34and that
01:01:36really does
01:01:37help set
01:01:37the tone
01:01:38for the
01:01:38show
01:01:38and that
01:01:39really does
01:01:40really
01:01:41did for
01:01:42me and
01:01:42for a lot
01:01:43of other
01:01:43people
01:01:43help
01:01:44bring in
01:01:46us
01:01:47as fans
01:01:48especially
01:01:49in a town
01:01:50like Vegas
01:01:50you wanted
01:01:52to you
01:01:52want to
01:01:53believe in
01:01:53the magic
01:01:53at least
01:01:54back then
01:01:55you did
01:01:55Vegas has
01:01:55changed a
01:01:56lot
01:01:56resort
01:01:57fees
01:01:58but you
01:02:00want to
01:02:00believe in
01:02:01the magic
01:02:01you want to
01:02:02believe in
01:02:03the cool
01:02:03you want to
01:02:04believe in
01:02:04the luck
01:02:05you want to
01:02:05believe in
01:02:06it all
01:02:07and a
01:02:08show like
01:02:08Vegas
01:02:09like Las
01:02:09Vegas
01:02:10helps and
01:02:11made you
01:02:12believe in
01:02:13a lot of
01:02:14it
01:02:14it was
01:02:15fantastic
01:02:16it was a
01:02:17great show
01:02:17and that
01:02:18scene was
01:02:19one of the
01:02:20reasons
01:02:20and then
01:02:20pile that
01:02:21onto the
01:02:21other scene
01:02:22where Danny
01:02:23immediately
01:02:24goes to
01:02:25Mr. Bunny
01:02:25Shoes
01:02:26who has
01:02:26about
01:02:27$40,000
01:02:28again
01:02:302000s
01:02:32money
01:02:32$40,000
01:02:34today
01:02:34equals
01:02:36$66,000
01:02:38still about
01:02:39a year's
01:02:40salary
01:02:40right
01:02:41in a
01:02:41good job
01:02:42for a
01:02:43bum
01:02:43to go
01:02:44from
01:02:44social security
01:02:45check to
01:02:45about a
01:02:45year's
01:02:46salary
01:02:46is good
01:02:47now mind
01:02:47you he had
01:02:481 million
01:02:49but
01:02:49and it's a
01:02:50good takeaway
01:02:51Danny
01:02:51again
01:02:52does a
01:02:52good deed
01:02:53he tells
01:02:54him to
01:02:54walk
01:02:54he closes
01:02:55the table
01:02:55down
01:02:56he tells
01:02:56him to
01:02:57walk away
01:02:57while he
01:02:57still has
01:02:58something to
01:02:58walk away
01:02:59with
01:02:59it's
01:03:01it's the
01:03:01feel goodness
01:03:02of it
01:03:03a long time
01:03:03ago we used
01:03:04to be friends
01:03:04plays as we
01:03:05go to the
01:03:06party at
01:03:07Mike's house
01:03:07and everybody's
01:03:09there including
01:03:09a couple of
01:03:10other casualties
01:03:11that we would
01:03:13not see later
01:03:13on in the show
01:03:14so Pauly's
01:03:15there in the
01:03:16background we will
01:03:16not see Pauly
01:03:17ever again
01:03:18and Mike's
01:03:19wife and kids
01:03:20Mike at this
01:03:22point had a
01:03:23wife and kids
01:03:24and you saw a
01:03:24little boy and
01:03:24little girl and
01:03:25they were playing
01:03:25with a robot he
01:03:26had a wife kids
01:03:27and robot
01:03:27they were never
01:03:30mentioned luckily
01:03:31so they were
01:03:32easily written out
01:03:32of the show
01:03:33they were never
01:03:33mentioned so it
01:03:35was fine for him
01:03:36to not have to
01:03:37be single by
01:03:39episode two
01:03:40they and you
01:03:41could see her in
01:03:42the background
01:03:42never mentioned
01:03:44again
01:03:44in that scene
01:03:46we hear a long
01:03:47time ago we
01:03:48used to be
01:03:48friends and keep
01:03:49that in mind
01:03:49please
01:03:50as Danny is
01:03:52driving down the
01:03:53Vegas strip going
01:03:53back home he
01:03:54sees Mr. Bunny
01:03:55Shoes who walks
01:03:55away with a
01:03:56clean pair of
01:03:57kicks now he's
01:03:58got the bunny
01:03:58slippers a brand
01:03:59new pair in his
01:04:00Montecito backpack
01:04:01which is by the
01:04:02way a nice
01:04:02backpack that's a
01:04:03nice touch but
01:04:04he's got some
01:04:04clean kicks on
01:04:05him man he's
01:04:06got I don't
01:04:07know those
01:04:07some kind of
01:04:08metal on the
01:04:08bottom of those
01:04:09are just steel or
01:04:11silver or what
01:04:12those are those
01:04:12are clean anyway
01:04:13Danny goes into
01:04:14his ending
01:04:15epilogue as he
01:04:16drives down the
01:04:17strip and we
01:04:18hear the first
01:04:19great line love
01:04:24that line god I
01:04:25love that town
01:04:26too or at least I
01:04:27did before the
01:04:28resort fees and
01:04:29we hear a long
01:04:30time ago we used
01:04:31to be friends in
01:04:32the DVD version
01:04:34we hear a long
01:04:36time ago we used
01:04:36to be friends in
01:04:37the original
01:04:38airing we don't
01:04:42hear a long time
01:04:43ago we used to
01:04:43be friends in
01:04:45the peacock
01:04:46version which
01:04:49is a sin a
01:04:50shame and a
01:04:51travesty and
01:04:53this is why not
01:04:55only am I team
01:04:56dairy but I am
01:04:58team original
01:04:59version if you
01:04:59can find it and
01:05:00team physical
01:05:01media DVD and I
01:05:03hate to say that
01:05:04because all that's
01:05:04really going to do
01:05:05is drive the prices
01:05:06of the DVDs back
01:05:06up again but if
01:05:11you really want
01:05:11the full Las
01:05:13Vegas experience
01:05:14Las Vegas the
01:05:15show experience
01:05:16these days you're
01:05:17going to have to
01:05:17buy the DVDs
01:05:18because the DVDs
01:05:20are going to have
01:05:21better quality
01:05:22whooshes some of
01:05:23it has to do with
01:05:24the frame rate of
01:05:25our newer TVs but
01:05:27they're also going to
01:05:28have DVD commentary
01:05:29behind the scenes
01:05:30stuff and most of
01:05:33the original music
01:05:34most of because even
01:05:35on the DVD on the
01:05:37back they say some
01:05:37of the music may be
01:05:38varied from the
01:05:39original broadcast
01:05:40although for the
01:05:41most part I think
01:05:41they're really just
01:05:42talking about the
01:05:42theme song because
01:05:44you only get the
01:05:44Elvis theme in the
01:05:45first episode of
01:05:46each season but you
01:05:47get the original
01:05:48music and the
01:05:49original music means
01:05:50so much going back
01:05:52to when we were
01:05:52talking about TV
01:05:54shows in the 2000s
01:05:56wanting to be more
01:05:56cinematic one of
01:05:57the parts of that
01:05:58includes music this
01:06:00is still at a time
01:06:01where music rights
01:06:02you could you could
01:06:04kind of almost
01:06:05ignore them for the
01:06:07most part on TV
01:06:08shows or at least
01:06:09just do the bare
01:06:10minimum just for
01:06:11this airing because
01:06:12you really weren't
01:06:13thinking about home
01:06:14media now some
01:06:15shows actually did
01:06:16have VHS releases
01:06:19of not even whole
01:06:21seasons because those
01:06:22would be huge blocks
01:06:23some shows did some
01:06:24shows had whole
01:06:25seasons some shows
01:06:25had the whole series
01:06:26those those would be
01:06:28on sale in like a
01:06:29time life type of
01:06:31infomercial that you
01:06:32would see on at
01:06:3311 to 3 o'clock in
01:06:35the morning right and
01:06:36there would be this
01:06:37giant box sets you
01:06:38get a new tape every
01:06:39month or every week
01:06:41and because VHS was
01:06:44such a cumbersome way
01:06:45of storing media like
01:06:46that it really wasn't
01:06:47conducive to doing
01:06:48that DVDs come along
01:06:50and it becomes a lot
01:06:51more conducive and TV
01:06:53shows start implementing
01:06:54it and the problem
01:06:56is the rights for the
01:06:58DVDs aren't really
01:07:00thought of so the
01:07:02because the rights
01:07:02for VHSs weren't even
01:07:03really thought of when
01:07:04it came to music so
01:07:05rights for DVDs when
01:07:07it comes to music
01:07:07weren't really fleshed
01:07:09out or thought of too
01:07:11much let alone
01:07:13streaming or a lot of
01:07:14that strike that we
01:07:15just experienced in
01:07:17entertainment we had to
01:07:18do with media rights of
01:07:19the individual now let's
01:07:21have a little rewind
01:07:22back to about 2007
01:07:24which is which is by
01:07:25the way the strike that
01:07:27killed Las Vegas Las
01:07:28Vegas was one of those
01:07:29shows that was on the
01:07:30cusp and it killed Las
01:07:31Vegas because they went
01:07:32on strike at the end
01:07:33of that fifth and
01:07:35final season and they
01:07:36went on strike at the
01:07:37end of that fifth and
01:07:38final season in part
01:07:39because or mostly
01:07:40because of DVD rights
01:07:42the actors didn't know
01:07:44how they were going to
01:07:46get paid for DVDs and
01:07:47the studios were like
01:07:48not at all we can help
01:07:50it and they really also
01:07:52did the same thing when
01:07:53it came to music now you
01:07:55had some sort of out
01:07:56some outliers like one
01:07:58of the reasons Las Vegas
01:07:59DVDs were so expensive
01:08:00was because they did
01:08:01the same thing that
01:08:02Entourage did which is
01:08:03they outright paid for
01:08:05the rights the full
01:08:07asking price for the
01:08:09music and put them on
01:08:11their DVDs which made
01:08:13their season DVDs a lot
01:08:15more expensive than a
01:08:16lot of other shows who
01:08:17either took out the
01:08:18music or didn't have
01:08:19the music in the first
01:08:20place but in the early
01:08:212000s music and
01:08:23television shows meant
01:08:25a lot because we were
01:08:26trying to change the
01:08:27perception of television
01:08:29shows I mentioned
01:08:30scrubs initially guess
01:08:31what scrubs had a lot
01:08:32of licensed music and
01:08:35when scrubs is shown on
01:08:37an Amazon Prime without
01:08:40that licensed music it's
01:08:41not the same show and
01:08:42when Las Vegas is shown
01:08:44on Peacock without a
01:08:46lot of the licensed
01:08:46music it's not the same
01:08:48show even if it's
01:08:49production music stuff
01:08:50that's supposed to be in
01:08:50the background the
01:08:51production music sounds
01:08:52different than the rest
01:08:53of the show it's not
01:08:54the same show and you
01:08:56can tell here how
01:08:58important it is a long
01:08:59time ago we used to be
01:09:00friends what were they
01:09:02talking about one what
01:09:03was the one story that
01:09:05didn't get tied up
01:09:06throughout the entire
01:09:08episode we found the
01:09:09whale we helped mr.
01:09:11mrs.
01:09:11Johnson we confronted
01:09:13the exhibitionist we got
01:09:15the cheater we talked
01:09:18to mr.
01:09:18bunny shoes what was the
01:09:20one thread that was left
01:09:22untied Greg Danny's friend
01:09:27Greg who Danny his father
01:09:32and Mary all knew about we
01:09:34find out in episode two
01:09:35that that's Greg spoiler
01:09:36alert the dead guy in the
01:09:38desert a long time ago we
01:09:41used to be friends that
01:09:44ties into your head
01:09:45subconsciously oh wait a
01:09:48minute oh that guy again
01:09:50wait a minute we got to
01:09:51come back to him don't
01:09:52we I bet you this means
01:09:54something doesn't it I
01:09:57maybe should come back
01:09:58next week so I can watch
01:10:01and see how they tie this
01:10:02up also because I like the
01:10:05crew how are they going to
01:10:08what does this dead guy have
01:10:09to do with all of them a
01:10:11long time ago they used to
01:10:13be friends but not if you're
01:10:15watching on Peacock so
01:10:16anyway that was the Las Vegas
01:10:17pilot the first episode of
01:10:19one of my and I'm sure
01:10:21your favorite shows
01:10:22otherwise you would have
01:10:22been here and certainly
01:10:23wouldn't have lasted this
01:10:25long in the podcast to hear
01:10:26me prattle on and on about
01:10:28this show that is clearly
01:10:30near and dear to both of
01:10:31our hearts I almost
01:10:32immediately fell in love
01:10:33with this show it really
01:10:34did a lot to encapsulate
01:10:38to me the idea that
01:10:39anything can happen in
01:10:40Vegas not just the what
01:10:43happens in Vegas days in
01:10:44Vegas stuff yes yes yes
01:10:45that was another thing
01:10:47that was played to death
01:10:48around that time but the
01:10:51idea that this place that
01:10:53there was something about
01:10:54it there was something
01:10:55about that jewel in the
01:10:57desert there was something
01:10:58about that oasis in the
01:11:00middle of nowhere that
01:11:02place that's that energy
01:11:05that that drive that that
01:11:07mystique that drives so
01:11:09many people to go there
01:11:10year in and year out
01:11:12despite all the changes
01:11:13despite all the terrible
01:11:15horrible no good very bad
01:11:17resort fees and go there
01:11:20year after year despite
01:11:21losing heck some of the
01:11:22best Vegas stories are
01:11:24losing stories and I
01:11:25trust me I've got a few
01:11:26bad Vegas stories you have
01:11:28to you can't only have
01:11:29good Vegas stories you've
01:11:30got to you have to leave
01:11:32Vegas at least once with
01:11:33some bad Vegas stories and
01:11:35those are often the best
01:11:36stories you tell but here
01:11:39you felt like there were no
01:11:41bad Vegas stories even the
01:11:44guy who lost almost all his
01:11:45money Mr. Bunny shoes he
01:11:48went in with nothing and
01:11:49he still came out with
01:11:50something he still came out
01:11:51a winner because that's
01:11:52this Vegas that's the
01:11:54Montecito and with that
01:11:58that's the Potecito folks if
01:12:02you want to follow the
01:12:03Potecito you can do so on
01:12:05Twitter we are at the
01:12:08Potecito that is at the
01:12:10Potecito P-O-D-E-C-I-T-O I
01:12:14look forward to more
01:12:15episodes like this and
01:12:17better as we roll on into
01:12:20our deep dive into the
01:12:23series known as Las Vegas if
01:12:24you are associated with the
01:12:25show at all and want to
01:12:27help out the podcast I would
01:12:28love to interview you I
01:12:29have I have so many
01:12:32questions and I would love
01:12:34so many different insights
01:12:35from anybody who was
01:12:36associated with the show and
01:12:38if you could share this
01:12:39podcast that is maybe the
01:12:40most important thing is
01:12:42sharing the podcast with
01:12:43other Las Vegas lovers such
01:12:46as yourself other family
01:12:47members people you are
01:12:48introducing to Las Vegas I
01:12:49wonder how many people are
01:12:51just now being introduced to
01:12:52Las Vegas with it being
01:12:54introduced on to Peacock I'd
01:12:57love to know that and I
01:12:58would also love to know we
01:12:59might as well start now are

01:13:11whole thing I want to know
01:13:13all that as well but in the
01:13:15meantime the in-between time

01:13:18here and joining me here at
