Jal Jeevan Mission transforms water access in Churachandpur villages

Churachandpur (Manipur), 07 JUNE (ANI): The Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), launched in August 2019, is transforming rural Manipur by providing safe and adequate drinking water through household tap connections. In villages like K. Thenjang, Maichammun, and Leinom, residents now have direct access to clean water, easing the daily burden of fetching it. Implemented by state authorities with support from the Government of India, JJM has sanctioned 430 schemes in the state—26 fully completed, while 108 are in progress. Paulungmuan, Assistant Engineer at PHED, also noted 51 additional schemes funded by the New Development Bank (NDB). Though progress was delayed due to the May 2023 conflict, work has resumed smoothly. Visuals show women and children using tap water for daily chores, reflecting improved living conditions. 00:09the central government's Jaljeevan mission. Out of 430 projects, 26 have been successfully

00:15completed while 108 are nearing final completion. Additionally, supported by funding from the new

00:23development bank, 51 single village schemes and one multi village scheme are actively underway.

00:29Further enhancing water access in the region.

00:32Under Jaljeevan mission, we have 430 schemes that is funded under the Ministry of Jal Shakti funding.

00:41And then we also have 51 schemes under NDB funding. The first one that is under JGM out of the 430 schemes,

00:52most of the works have been completed.

00:56A large number of households in villages across Chura Chantpur are now having functional

01:03tap connections. Where villagers once walked miles for water, children and women now wash clothes

01:10and collect water at their doorsteps.

01:14Since when the rainy season, all the waters are dirty. We cannot drink on that time. But after producing of these

01:24JGM schemes, we get every time.

01:27We get every time. We get water. I am very happy to the government.

01:31My knowledge is it is very benefit to the villagers, to the people, to the community.

01:39Having such type of water JGM schemes to the village. If it is possible, if it can be implemented in each and every house village of our districts.

01:56The authorities are actively working to provide safe drinking water to every household in rural Manipur, with the project progressing intensively.
