00:00This one was sent to us by the St. Joseph County Police Department in Indiana.
00:05Now, last Thursday, they received a 911 call from a customer inside a local pharmacy
00:09who appeared to be in grave V-danger.
00:16911, what is the address of the emergency?
00:20I'm at Martin's on Ranger.
00:22There's a very large turkey that just went in the store and was trying to chase the customer.
00:27It's a really big turkey.
00:28It's, like, three foot tall, so it's, like, huge.
00:31And it's flying around all the shelves and chasing people.
00:35A St. Joseph police officer has now arrived on the scene.
00:39Where's that turkey?
00:40The ephemer is in the corner of Just Take a Right.
00:42Yeah, all right.
00:43I'm trying to keep people away.
00:44He's calm and relaxed right now.
00:47Yeah, we like this all.
00:50How did he get in here?
00:51I was just walking in, just came through the door.
00:53Just ran through.
00:54Apparently, the prodigious poultry is perched atop the painkiller section of the pharmacy.
01:01He's pretty strong.
01:02He walked right in the door.
01:03Oh, the turkey.
01:05Oh, yeah.
01:05Oh, my God.
01:06Oh, man.
01:07There's the bird.
01:09And as some bourbon drinkers will argue, wild turkey may not belong on the top shelf.
01:14Yeah, he's a little stressed out.
01:16I'm trying to see his beard.
01:18He moves in to get a closer look at the bird.
01:20Oh, well, it's almost that time of year.
01:22He probably thinks there's a hen in here.
01:24Fortunately, the officer's very well protected.
01:27You know, in case the gobbler makes any sudden movements.
01:30Floor, I'd be best.
01:32Oh, no.
01:33We don't want that.
01:35Not the sudden movement that they were expecting.
01:38Well, isn't that pretty?
01:39With animal control still busy on another call.
01:42I don't know.
01:43They said they're at another turkey call and they'd call us back.
01:45The officers decide to take matters into their own hands.
01:48If we could just get, like, a line of people to kind of section this off.
01:53That way we can.
01:55Well, just so that we're going to try and herd him out the door.
01:58As they begin implementing their plan, a third St. Joseph's officer is now arriving on the scene.
02:06Excuse me.
02:06He makes his way to the pharmacy.
02:08So, hey, Okonski, we're going to try and herd him that way.
02:13But it looks like Okonski has a different plan.
02:17Oh, she's grabbing.
02:18Grab him then.
02:20He's going to jump.
02:23Come up with the blanket.
02:25We're trying to get him to run out that way.
02:29The officer carefully approaches the bird.
02:34Reaches over.
02:35You want a blanket?
02:35No, it's going to have to make him mad.
02:39Watch those top talons.
02:44And he's got it.
02:45We got to see that again.
02:50As the officer distracts the bird with his left hand.
02:53He's a canine.
02:54Oh, he is?
02:55Yeah.
02:55He slowly reaches over and then grabs the drumstick.
03:04Come on, Rudy.
03:05I had to come do this for you.
03:06Now to return this wild turkey back to the wild.
03:11I'm going to go out this way and take it on the side.
03:13Looks like this is one of those catch and release situations.
03:15This is my trophy turkey for the year.
03:17Dude, this sucker's heavy, man.
03:19Oh yeah, he's probably 35 pounds.
03:23The officer releases the bird.
03:26It scurries away and quickly takes off.
03:30And for these officers...
03:31I had a turkey standoff.
03:33From here on in, everything else is just gravy.
03:36I told you I was going to grab that thing.
03:39I am sorry about all those turkey jokes.
03:43Trust me.
03:43From here on in, I promise no more bird puns.
03:47I'm going cold turkey.
