Man Vs. is a Canadian horror film directed and co-written by Adam Massey who uses a nice mix of "found-footage" and regular format to twist a tale of a man stranded in the woods. Chris Diamantopoulos stars in the lead (and basically only) role in the film and does a tremendous job. I know him from playing the handsome sound guy in The Office. But he's also been in Arrested Development, Episodes, The Twilight Zone and About a Boy.

00:00Imagine that you are alone in the middle of a jungle relying only on your survival skills.
00:04But this time you're not just facing wild animals or nature.
00:08You're facing something that is neither human nor animal.
00:11And you already know everything you're going to do.
00:14The movie begins with a man named Doug Woods, a wildlife photographer,
00:18and also the host of a survival show called Woods vs. Something Like Man vs.
00:23In the show, he goes to remote forests and wild places to teach people how to survive.
00:27Two seasons of his show have already been made.
00:30Some viewers liked it.
00:32But it wasn't successful enough for any major TV network to pick it up.
00:36Now they're about to film season 3.
00:38If this one doesn't sell either, Doug and his team could go bankrupt.
00:41So Doug is under a lot of pressure and facing hard times.
00:45Doug often jokes during his survival show.
00:48But maybe that's part of the problem.
00:50Viewers don't seem to enjoy his humor.
00:52And that could be the reason why no major TV network has picked up the show yet.
00:55Now, with his future hanging by a thread, Doug and his team have decided to take a big risk.
01:02They chose one of the toughest places on earth, the remote forests of northern Canada,
01:06for their next shoot, hoping it will finally make an impact.
01:09The movie shows Doug quietly leaving his house late at night.
01:13He doesn't want to wake his wife or his young daughter.
01:15But they still hear him and come to say goodbye.
01:18Help me reach my goal of 10 likes and 5 comments.
01:21Comment as much as you want.
01:23The goal is to achieve it.
01:24I want to sincerely thank you for always supporting this channel.
01:29Sending you many blessings and a huge thank you.
01:32The channel keeps growing.
01:34And very soon we'll be able to connect even more through the new membership feature.
01:38But we'll talk more about that later.
01:40For now, let's jump back into the story.
01:42His daughter has recorded a heartfelt video message for him.
01:46Something he can watch when he feels lonely or scared in the wild.
01:49It's meant to give him strength during the toughest moments.
01:52Not long after, Doug's team arrives in a motorhome.
01:55The team includes his younger brother Terry, the show's producer Bill, and a woman named Angie.
02:01Their destination is a few hours away.
02:03And during the trip, Doug talks with his team.
02:05They clearly feel discouraged and worried about the future of the show.
02:09They try to convince Doug that he needs to take things to the next level this time.
02:13Do something bold or unexpected to win over the audience.
02:17If not, they all risk losing everything and having to walk away from the show forever.
02:22Doug is also troubled by these thoughts.
02:24Although he doesn't say much, he still assures everyone that he's going to do his best to keep himself distracted.
02:31He plays a game of chess with Terry during the trip.
02:33A game he has always loved and in which he finds comfort.
02:36Eventually, they arrive at a small town where they plan to meet their local guide.
02:41Someone familiar with the area, since the forest they're heading to is known for being dangerous.
02:46In a nearby restaurant, they are introduced to Duncan,
02:49a man who lives in the region and will guide them to the drop-off point while they eat.
02:53Terry pulls Doug aside and suggests he skip the jokes during this season of the show,
02:58saying they hurt the ratings.
03:00The comment stings and leaves Doug disheartened,
03:03as if his personality is no longer good enough for the show.
03:06After the meal, they set off again.
03:09The plan is to take Doug deep into the forest by boat.
03:12He'll be completely alone there for five days,
03:15after which the team will return to pick him up in case of emergency.
03:18Doug is given a satellite phone so he can call for help if something goes wrong.
03:22Before parting ways, everyone gives Doug advice on what kind of content he should create,
03:27urging him to do more unusual things that grab attention.
03:30That might finally make the show a success.
03:33They're under pressure and make it clear that if this season fails,
03:36they could all lose everything.
03:38Doug is hurt by their bluntness, but he doesn't show it.
03:41He keeps his feelings to himself.
03:43He doesn't want to seem weak before the challenge has even started.
03:46As they continued their journey, it suddenly began to rain.
03:50Duncan calmly told Doug that this was just a sample of what he would have to face here.
03:55The wilderness was unpredictable and unforgiving.
03:58They finally reached the edge of the forest where Duncan left Doug with a few final words.
04:03The group left him alone.
04:04Now, the real challenge was about to begin.
04:07Doug set up his camera, officially beginning the next season of Woods vs.
04:11He opened his backpack to check the items he would rely on for the next five days.
04:16Inside was a hat, a camera flash, an energy drink, an apple, a harmonica, and a piece of gum.
04:23That was it, just these basic items to survive in the wild.
04:26His first priority was to find a place to sleep.
04:29He walked a short distance to a higher and safer place and decided that he would build a shelter there.
04:35There were a few hours of daylight left, so he set to work quickly,
04:39gathering wood from a broken tree, collecting pieces with soft branches to make it easier to handle.
04:44But while he worked, a splinter lodged deeply under his fingernail, causing him sharp pain.
04:50Clenching his teeth, he managed to pull out,
04:53but it was a harsh reminder that even the smallest things could be a serious challenge out here.
04:57After some effort, he finally finished building the shelter as night was quickly approaching.
05:03He knew the next step was just as important, making a fire to keep wild animals away.
05:08He decided to use the energy drink by scraping its metallic surface,
05:12trying to create enough friction to spark a flame.
05:15After half an hour of struggling, he changed tactics, using the reflective side of the can.
05:21He pointed it toward the sun, focusing the sunlight on a bundle of dry wood.
05:25After a few tense moments, the wood finally caught fire, his first real success in the wild.
05:31Night fell quickly, and Doug decided to check in with his team using the satellite phone.
05:36On the other end, his team was chatting casually and enjoying themselves.
05:41Hearing their laughter while he struggled alone in the wild made Doug feel a little discouraged.
05:46But he reminded himself that this was his job after all.
05:49At night, Doug had to go to bed with an empty stomach.
05:52He hadn't had the chance to hunt, and there was nothing to eat.
05:55Exhausted from the day and warmed by the fire, he finally fell asleep.
05:59But in the middle of the night, he was startled awake by a loud, thunderous explosion.
06:04The sound was so powerful that it left him shocked, though he couldn't understand what had happened.
06:09He supposed it might have been an earthquake, and tried to calm himself before going back to sleep.
06:14When morning came, something felt different as Doug got up and looked around.
06:18He was shocked to see smoke and fire in parts of the forest.
06:22Then something huge fell from the sky into the nearby river, shaking the ground violently.
06:28Doug ran to the scene and saw something disturbing.
06:31All the fish in the water were dead.
06:32Whatever had fallen seemed to be toxic or dangerous.
06:36Doug suspected it might have been a meteorite.
06:38Still, from a survival standpoint, the dead fish meant food.
06:42Doug was hungry, and at first he felt relieved because now he had something to eat.
06:47But just as he was about to act, he saw a wolf in the distance.
06:51The animal approached the river, sniffed the air, and then turned away, walking off without touching a single fish.
06:58That moment made Doug stop.
07:00The wolf clearly sensed something he couldn't.
07:02If the wolf didn't trust the fish, maybe Doug shouldn't either.
07:06Doug decided to contact his team and report what he had seen.
07:09But when he reached for the satellite phone, it was dead.
07:13No signal, no connection.
07:15That was when he began to put the pieces together.
07:17Whatever had fallen from the sky must have also disrupted communications.
07:21Possibly a meteorite impact.
07:23Now, with no working phone and nothing safe to eat, Doug was left with one option.
07:28Hunt.
07:29Still hungry from the night before, he urgently needed food.
07:33He set up three traps, hoping to catch a rabbit or another small animal.
07:37And while he waited, he continued filming his surroundings, documenting everything, including this strange and unsettling turn of events.
07:45Before sunset, Doug went to check the traps he had set earlier.
07:49And to his relief, two of them had successfully caught rabbits.
07:52As he crouched down to pick up his catch, one of the cameras he had placed nearby suddenly fell on its own.
07:58Just then, Doug heard a strange, unknown sound echoing through the forest, assuming it might be the wolf again.
08:05He grabbed the camera and returned to camp, staying alert to avoid attracting predators.
08:09Doug decided to clean the rabbits a short distance from his shelter.
08:13While doing this, he kept his camera rolling, documenting the process for his audience.
08:18Once he was finished, he returned to camp and once again tried to call his team using the satellite phone, but it was still dead.
08:25He pulled out his personal phone, a gift from his daughter.
08:28But as expected, there was no signal.
08:31Feeling lonely and discouraged, Doug played a video his daughter had recorded for him.
08:36Her words comforted him and gave him the strength to carry on.
08:39But just as he was starting to feel better, he heard the same eerie sounds coming from the trees, as if someone or something was silently watching him from the shadows.
08:49Fearing it might be a pack of wolves, Doug hurriedly ate his food, since he couldn't carry both rabbits with him.
08:55He decided to save one in front of the camera, shared a survival tip by tying the remaining rabbit upside down by its leg, and hanging it from a tree branch to keep it out of reach of animals.
09:04When night fell, Doug returned to his shelter and spent the time playing chess alone using his small board, but the strange noises returned.
09:12Doug looked around, scanning the darkness, but saw nothing.
09:16He tried to ignore it and focus on his game.
09:19Unknowingly, something or someone silently approached and took the rabbit he had home.
09:24Whatever it was, it moved with purpose and intelligence.
09:27It didn't act like an animal.
09:29That's when the unease grew stronger.
09:31Shortly after, it started raining on camera.
09:35Doug tried to act like his shelter was holding up well, but in reality, it was useless.
09:40Water poured through the structure, soaking him completely.
09:44The ground beneath became wet and muddy, making it hard to sleep or even stay warm.
09:49Then Doug heard an animal scream from somewhere nearby, sharp and unsettling.
09:54It echoed through the trees and froze him in place.
09:58He quickly grabbed his night vision camera and scanned the forest, but no matter how much he looked, he couldn't see anything.
10:04Doug now felt scared, and because of that, he couldn't sleep at all during the night.
10:09In the morning, his whole body ached and the lack of rest was really starting to affect him.
10:14Deep down, he wanted to give up, but he kept hiding how important this show was to him.
10:19So despite the pain and fear, he forced himself to keep going.
10:22He grabbed his camera and went to check the rabbit he had saved for breakfast, but it was no longer there.
10:28Someone or something had taken it.
10:30Doug was terrified.
10:32He knew no wild animal could have done it in such a clean and deliberate way.
10:36Panicking, he grabbed the satellite phone and tried calling his team again, but like before, there was no signal.
10:42Trying to stay strong, Doug reset the traps and waited.
10:45When he came back to check them later, he was shocked that his traps had been emptied again, but not by animals.
10:51Instead, he found a strange black substance under one of the traps that glowed faintly.
10:56Doug was stunned and went back to take a closer look, but then he noticed something even more disturbing.
11:02His satellite phone was missing.
11:04Then he saw that someone had moved a piece from the chest on the board he was playing with.
11:07That was the last straw.
11:09Doug now knew for sure that he was not alone.
11:11Someone was out there watching him, playing with him.
11:13He began to wonder if maybe he was a fan playing pranks on him.
11:17Another thought crossed his mind.
11:18Could it be one of his own team members trying to make the show more exciting?
11:23That idea gave him some comfort.
11:25He decided to turn on his camera and keep filming.
11:28After all, he still needed material for that night's show.
11:31He carefully thought about his next move in the chess game and finally rested.
11:35The next morning, Doug packed up and left the area.
11:38He wanted to move to a new place and camp a little further ahead.
11:42He found a large rock and used it as part of his new shelter.
11:45He lit another fire and prepared to look for food.
11:48This time, he tried fishing, but the water was completely empty.
11:52So he started searching for small animals to hunt as he ventured into the woods.
11:56Suddenly, he froze in front of him.
11:59There was a shelter, one that looked exactly like his.
12:02It even had a campfire made with the same can, just like he had shown in his videos.
12:07Someone was copying everything he did.
12:08At first, he thought it could still be a fan trying to mess with him, but then he noticed something even more alarming.
12:15His lost satellite phone was there, dismantled as if someone had been studying it.
12:19Doug was now truly terrified.
12:21Nearby, he discovered the bodies of a rabbit and a wolf tied exactly the way he had shown in his videos.
12:27Then he heard a noise and quickly hid under a rock while looking around.
12:31He realized that someone had built a huge trap, perfectly replicating his own survival techniques.
12:38He stepped back, just in time, knowing he could have been caught in it.
12:41Doug ran back to his camp, only to find that someone had made another move on his chessboard.
12:46This one was so clever that even Doug couldn't counter it.
12:49With no other choice, he decided to stay there for the night.
12:53He set up three cameras around the area, hoping to catch whoever was watching him.
12:57But when he woke up the next morning, all three cameras had been knocked down.
13:01It was then that fear hit him even harder.
13:04Not only were they watching him, they were hunting him.
13:07Whoever or whatever it was hadn't heard him yet, but Doug knew that could change at any moment.
13:12Now it was clear he needed to escape, because something out there was tracking his every move.
13:17Doug began filming the final scenes of his show, when suddenly, a loud explosion echoed in the air,
13:23followed by a powerful shockwave that threw him into the water.
13:27He struggled to swim to the shore, bleeding from his eyes, nose, and ears due to the force of the impact.
13:35Soaked and stunned, he took off his clothes, put them back on, and started running desperately to escape.
13:41In his panic, Doug lost his sense of direction and accidentally fell into a deep pit.
13:46Just before losing consciousness, he saw a shadowy figure watching him from above.
13:51When he regained consciousness, injured and weak, he tied his wounded hand with his shirt and climbed out of the pit with great effort.
13:59Doug finally reached the place where his team had set up camp.
14:02The tents and equipment were still there, but the people were gone.
14:06Then, he saw his brother Terry hanging from a tree, tied up as Doug had once hung his prey.
14:11Doug rushed to bring him down and discovered that he was still alive, though barely asking for help.
14:17Doug ran inside to use the radio, but it was dead.
14:19When he returned with a first aid kit, he finally saw the culprit, a non-human alien, standing before him.
14:25It had been stalking Doug all along, imitating his actions, and studying him.
14:30The remains of Doug's team were nearby, their bodies mutilated, their skin stripped.
14:36The alien made the same eerie sound Doug had heard in the forest.
14:40Realizing he was in danger, Doug ran, luring the creature into the same pit he had fallen into earlier.
14:45The plan worked, the alien fell into the trap, and Doug buried it under a pile of heavy stones,
14:52hoping it would be enough to kill it.
14:54He hurried back to help Terry, but it was too late.
14:57Terry had died, leaving Doug completely alone.
15:00Doug, heartbroken and exhausted, gently covered the bodies of his fallen team,
15:05realizing he might not survive.
15:08He recorded a final message for his family, in case no one came to rescue him.
15:12Needing strength, he watched the video his daughter had made for him again,
15:16and her words reignited his determination.
15:19He wasn't going to give up.
15:20After bandaging his wounds, Doug looked around the camp and found a map.
15:25He noticed that Duncan's house was 6 kilometers away.
15:28Without wasting any time, he pulled himself together and began to walk.
15:32When night fell, he finally arrived at Duncan's cabin.
15:36It was empty, but the television was still on.
15:39It was then that the movie took a shocking turn.
15:41The news revealed that what Doug had thought was a single extraterrestrial accident was not isolated.
15:48Millions of similar extraterrestrials had landed all over the planet.
15:52The major cities were in ruins, and the government urged people to evacuate.
15:57Doug was already far from the city, safe for now, but the realization hit hard.
16:01His family might not have made it.
16:03Even so, he refused to give up.
16:05He gathered supplies from the cabin and prepared to leave, using Duncan's boat.
16:10He was determined to find and protect his family.
16:13But just as he was about to leave, Duncan appeared, pointing a weapon at him and demanding he leave the boat behind.
16:19Doug refused.
16:20He couldn't waste any more time.
16:22Before Duncan could act, the extraterrestrial reappeared and killed him.
16:26It then turned its attention to Doug, but Doug fought back fiercely in a final act of survival.
16:32He killed the extraterrestrial by breaking it into pieces using the boat's propeller.
16:36As Doug caught his breath, thinking the danger was over, he looked up and froze.
16:41The sky was filled with incoming meteorites.
16:44More extraterrestrials were coming.
16:46With a quick decision, Doug had no time to think.
16:49He shot out of the camp in the boat, searching for a safer place and hoping his family was okay.
16:54All he could do was remember his daughter's words and the love that drove him to keep going.
16:59He navigated downstream.
17:01The sound of the water encouraged him, but his mind was filled with fear and anxiety.
