He emphasised the importance of personal meetings between leaders and officials of both countries."I think we can say now that Germany, with the new government under the new Chancellor, the new coalition, has exactly the same focus on India as the previous government. We have seen a very successful visit by Dr Jaishankar in Berlin. In the last month, we had a very fruitful conversation between the Chancellor and Prime Minister Modi. We'll have a series of visit of parliamentarians, foreign secretaries, other ministers will come. 00:00I think what we can say now is Germany with a new government under the new Chancellor and the new coalition has exactly the same focus on India than the previous government.
00:11We have seen a very successful visit of Dr. Jay Shankar, the Ministry of External Affairs in Berlin.
00:18In the last month we have had a very, very fruitful conversation between the Chancellor and Prime Minister Modi.
00:23We will have a series of visits of parliamentarians, foreign secretaries, other ministers will come.
00:30So I think we will see a series of very, very interesting personal meetings in the course of the year.
00:37And that shows how strongly the new government is committed to this Indo-German partnership.
00:44So I am very happy about that.
00:46Germany and India share a long history of development cooperation.
00:49What are the current focus areas of this partnership and how do you see it evolving in the next few years?
00:56What about green technologies, dual vocational training and overall innovation?
01:02So I am a little hesitant to call it development cooperation.
01:06You know, India and Germany are partners in a common effort to get a grip on what is really pressing in the world, what is urgent, what are the biggest challenges nowadays.
01:19And therefore both sides have agreed on what we call the partnership for green and sustainable development, the GSTP.
01:27It's a very, very interesting partnership where India and Germany sit together every year and identify projects where you can implement measures that are fighting climate change,
01:42that are improving smart cities, that are in favor of, you know, biodiversity and its consequence.
01:51So when we see what Germany and India, what a basket of this cooperation all contains, it is quite impressive.
01:59And this GSTP will be with us for the next six, seven years.
02:05It is quite a large number of euros that is spent in this partnership.
02:12But it is money that is matched by the Indian side and therefore I think it's a partnership on equal footing.
02:20And I think we are beyond the development cooperation area so far.
