00:00It's been two years since I lost my mother and I'm in a better place, but I truly believe that
00:07statement when it says that grief is like the ocean. It comes in waves. It definitely comes
00:13in waves. Sometimes it's calming, serene. Other times it's overwhelming and it's unpredictable
00:19and the tears just come. Well, yesterday I had one of those moments where the tears just came.
00:23I heard a song that my mom and dad shared between them, a love song, and I began to cry and I just
00:31kind of lost it. I just had a day, a few hours of where I just lost it and I just cried and cried
00:36and then I started praying, God, help me, calm me, give me that peace. I feel so overwhelmed right now
00:43with the loss of my mom and knowing that my dad's not here either. And so in saying that, I wanted
00:51to talk just a few minutes about grief. It's those memories that we have sometimes. You who
00:57understand grief or maybe you're there right now, it's the memories. I remember when I was 18 years
01:02old, I wanted a convertible so bad. So my dad took me to the car auction and while we were looking for
01:09that convertible, we got dry papaya. I never had it. My dad liked it. So he bought us a little bag of
01:15fresh dry papaya and we were sharing it and I was eating dry papaya with him and we found the car
01:21a black convertible. The interior was red and it was ripped. It was in horrible shape. The radio
01:28didn't work well, but I didn't care. I got my convertible. That was my first car at 18. I was
01:32so excited. But every time I'm in a grocery store or if I end up eating dry papaya, I think of my dad
01:38and I get a lump in my throat. Sometimes I'll just cry depending on the day. But I know all of you have
01:43those memories. All of you feel grief, those of you who have lost a loved one. And I wanted to just
01:49encourage you that sometimes we're not going to feel like showing up. We're not going to feel like
01:53putting a smile on our face. We're not going to feel like getting out of bed. We're not going to
01:57feel like going on even. There are times that everyone's on their own journey of grief. But I
02:03want to encourage you to continue to get up and to show up and to dive into the word of God, the
02:10scriptures, and let them give you that peace that you're looking for. For his peace passes all
02:17understanding. We're not always going to understand why we lost that loved one. But his peace passes
02:23all understanding. I want to encourage you to lean on him and to let him calm your restless thoughts
02:30and to remove the anxiety that you're feeling right now, those anxious thoughts, that feeling of loss,
02:37that feeling of loneliness, and let God calm you. Calm those thoughts and give you his peace
02:44because grief is going to come to us all like I said in the beginning. But God can walk with us
02:51through each season of grief.
