00:43Hi there Meira, obviously a very passionate crowd, home crowd here, which towards the end were booing a little,
00:52when you occasionally had a couple of words of the umpire, what was that like as an experience for you?
00:58Well I can say that obviously I expected it, it's normal that they would support a French player,
01:05so I knew that it's going to be like this, I think that in the first set I managed it pretty well,
01:13I didn't really pay attention to that, but obviously with nerves and with pressure it became a little harder,
01:19but anyway I think that I can learn from this, so nothing more I can say for now.
01:28Yeah Meira, you've made such progress over the last couple of years in sort of getting control of your emotions in tough situations,
01:36was it more yourself and your disappointment in your play, or was it that hostile atmosphere of the crowd,
01:45or what was it that sort of pushed you over the edge today in a way that hasn't happened in a while?
01:49I think everything together combined, I was not really happy with some points and some shots and decisions I made today on the court,
02:03but yeah obviously with pressure and with pressure from the crowd and sometimes I also felt not very confident in some actions that I do on court in my shots,
02:19so all of this together I think that it played a role in this, but I think that again I will learn from this and I will do everything that I can to maybe not do it the next time I play a big match like this.
02:38Hi Meira, you don't play that many players ranked around where she is, but you probably have some idea what a player who's ranked between 300 or 400 or so normally plays like,
02:47so how much better is she playing right now than her ranking, I mean how would you describe sort of what her level is actually like?
02:54Well I know that she was like 150, but then she had an injury, so I just knew that rankings is rankings, it's, you know, if you're ranked 5 in the world or 300 in the world,
03:10I think that the match can be tough and it can be pretty much at the same level, so I didn't focus on the rankings pretty much,
03:19so I just, I knew how she would play, I know her from 60Ks in Switzerland, so I saw her from a long, I knew her from a long time ago,
03:28so I knew how she would play, so yeah, I think that now she's showing that she's probably a better player than her ranking right now.
03:40Yeah Meira, just curious, just the pure game, what are the biggest challenges that she creates for you when you're playing against her?
03:51Yeah well, she has a great serve, she has a great forehand, I think she, she had a lot of winners with her forehand today,
03:59and I think that she also played solid and consistent throughout the whole match, so honestly I can say of course I could have done something better as well,
04:12but it is tennis, so today she managed the situation better than me and I think that's why she got the win.
04:21Hi Meira, you were saying that you'll take some lessons from dealing with the French crown today,
04:29I just wonder what you think some of those lessons are, what maybe you would do differently next time if you found yourself in a similar situation?
04:38Well I think that the way I managed to kind of not react to anything they say or scream in the first set,
04:48so I think that if I would have been able to do this throughout the whole match, it would have been great,
04:55but obviously sometimes, some moments it was harder, but I think that if I learned just to be the same as I was in the first set
05:08and not to react to anything they say for the whole match, then I think that would be nice,
05:16but for now I have a lot to learn, so I'm going to take this time to learn and improve.
05:24Hello Meira, you used the word pressure at the beginning of this conference, press conference, pressure of the match, pressure of the quarterfinal,
05:31I remember your press conferences last year, you didn't use this word, you were talking about your freedom to play, your hunger to play, etc.
05:38When did you start to feel some kind of pressure, maybe related to your ranking, your statutes, your own ambition on tennis court like today?
05:47When did it start really to switch your statutes?
05:49I would say that it all started maybe when I just had to defend a lot of points, you know, that I earned from last year,
06:02so I think a lot of players, they feel pressure when they play, obviously, when they have to defend the points or when they have to defend the title,
06:12so it is the part of this sport, maybe it's not that nice, but you just have to learn how to deal with it,
06:22and I'm still learning, so I think I have a lot of time to learn still, so I don't know, I hope that next time I'm going to deal with it better.
06:36You know the other players who are left in the draw very well.
06:40I'm just curious, do you think that Luis can win this tournament with how well she's playing right now?
06:45Well, you know, it's easy to say just sitting here, and it's not easy to do so when you're on the court,
06:52but I think that if she keeps playing like this freely, not, you know, not being scared or afraid, I don't know, of pressure or to lose or whatever you can be afraid of,
07:07I think everyone can win, so, you know, it's not going to be easy, but I honestly don't know.
07:13It's going to be pretty interesting to watch and to see who's going to be the winner in the end of this week,
07:19so I don't know, I think if maybe she believes in herself enough, maybe she can, but I don't know.
07:27For me, it's just tough to say, you know, sitting here.
07:34We're used to seeing you have such helpful and positive interactions with your box,
07:39specifically Conchita and everyone else who's there.
07:43It seemed like that wasn't happening today.
07:45What exactly was going on?
07:46Was there communication problems or?
07:49Well, I can say that, you know, especially in the beginning of the match, everything was great.
07:57Like, you know, as usual, as normal, of course, after I was looking at them,
08:02if I did some mistakes or, you know, some wrong decisions to look at her to see what she would say,
08:10and after some double faults as well, I would look at her to see what she would tell me to, you know,
08:17to change or improve, and of course, you know, sometimes I was a bit emotional,
08:25so, you know, basically just nothing bad really happened,
08:31but, yeah, today was one of those days when it's just a bit harder to deal with everything that's going on in the court.
08:40We'll see you next time.
