00:55Bad luck, Jack, great fight.
00:58Obviously, he was zoning and attacking with the drop shots as well.
01:02How tough is it for you to figure out what you need to do and to think clearly when he's coming at you so fast?
01:09Yeah, I didn't know what to do.
01:11Obviously, he served incredibly well, hitting his spots well.
01:15Off the ground strokes, whenever I dropped it a little bit short, he was using that drop shot.
01:23I don't know how many drop shots he hit, but I don't think he missed hardly any either.
01:27And they were all incredibly good.
01:30And then that is tough because when you know that's coming, but yeah, he can unload on a forehand as well.
01:36You just don't know what to do.
01:38And yeah, like I said, usually his level would dip in and out and there would be a lot of sporadic stuff going on.
01:45But credit to him, I mean, he was very locked in and his level didn't drop hardly at all.
01:52As good as Boublet was, do you feel it's a missed opportunity?
01:55Because being the number five seed, there's an expectation you have to be quarterfinals minimum.
02:00Do you look at it like that? How do you assess it?
02:02Yeah, of course. You know, I'm incredibly disappointed with the result.
02:05You know, obviously, you know, I'm coming into the clay court season having barely won any matches on the clay before.
02:14You know, I keep that in mind, obviously.
02:16But, you know, I felt good. I felt good coming into this tournament.
02:19I felt like my level was building.
02:21And then today, you know, it's a really, really tough loss to take for me.
02:25But, you know, my journey, even though like I've come up quickly this year, you know, I've got myself to a high ranking.
02:33It's always been a steep learning curve for me.
02:35You know, it's always been a lot of adversity, a lot of injuries, a lot of setbacks.
02:39And this is just another one of those tough matches.
02:42I'll learn from it and I'll get better and I'll use it to my advantage.
02:48When you went off court just before the fourth, I'm just wondering if you could tell us what was going through your mind at that stage.
02:53And, you know, do you still have a lot of belief that you could turn things around because it was a difficult third?
02:58Yeah, no, the third set, I let myself down for sure.
03:00You know, come out, I got broken and then had chances in a 2-1 game and then played a really poor 3-1 game to go 4-1.
03:12And then, you know, the set ended.
03:14But I still believed, obviously, my level could have been better, of course.
03:19And that, you know, even though he was playing well, stepping in and everything, there was a chance that his level would drop.
03:24Obviously come out first game of the fourth and he had four clean winners, I think.
03:28So it was difficult.
03:29But, yeah, I mean, I'd always had the belief I could turn things around.
03:32It was just he was playing the better tennis.
03:35I'm sure, you know, you weren't looking kind of further ahead in the draw than Alex.
03:42But, you know, the two guys that you sort of measure yourself against that you're chasing are Yannick and Carlos.
03:49How disappointing is it to miss out on the potential opportunity to test yourself again against Yannick at Grand Slam?
03:56Yeah, big time, for sure.
03:58You know, I still think I'm a long way behind those boys a little bit.
04:03You know, I still got a lot to learn.
04:05If you look at probably the ATP matches, how many matches they've played, they've probably played double the amount that I've played.
04:12You know, they're probably a year, two years ahead of me and obviously achieved a lot more, a lot more experience.
04:19So I do have a lot to do to catch up with them, in all honesty.
04:24My level's getting better all the time, but it's not just the tennis.
04:28It's, you know, the maturity, the consistency of what they're doing.
04:32Even though I've been more consistent, it's doing it when it matters and these are the tournaments that matter.
04:36So, yeah, I've got a lot to go still to get to them.
04:41And I think that, you know, I'm working hard and doing the right things and we'll see.
04:46But yeah, definitely really difficult not to get that opportunity to play a Yannick or whoever it is in the quarters.
04:53More Grand Slam experience for you here.
04:56How will you regroup for Wimbledon now?
04:58Are you ready to cry and get your best ever performance there and go deep there?
05:01Yeah, definitely.
05:02I mean, although I'm, you know, I'm obviously gutted to have lost today and stuff, I'm going to be very happy to get off the clay.
05:11You know, that's just a fact.
05:13You know, I'm really, really proud of my ability to have adapted and to accept the challenge of being on the clay.
05:24You know, I was thinking coming into it that I'm going to really show myself this year on the clay and do well in Monte Carlo.
05:32I played there and I lost to Fokina and I was thinking like, you know, this is going to be a disaster.
05:37But then going week to week, I've really built and I've learned a lot and I've got better.
05:44I've come here, won three matches, made fourth round, not playing probably my best tennis that I was playing in Madrid and Rome.
05:52But yeah, definitely, I'll be happy to get on a faster surface, a surface that I'm much more comfortable moving on.
05:59And yeah, I'll look forward to being back home, being on the grass for sure.
06:04Jack, tough one today.
06:06I just wonder when Alexander's kind of peaking like he was for much of today.
06:10How good is his level?
06:11I mean, is he like, you know, like playing one of the top guys?
06:15I mean, I don't know.
06:17I think it's tough.
06:18You know, was he playing that way because I was allowing him to maybe play that way?
06:22I'm not sure.
06:23But definitely.
06:26Yeah.
06:27I mean, he's got an incredible serve.
06:29His backhand he barely missed today.
06:31Forehand didn't really miss.
06:32Moved well.
06:33Was hitting incredible drop shots all round.
06:37You know, I don't play many matches where like I feel like it's almost out of my control what's going on.
06:45And he made that happen today.
06:47And that's what top players do.
06:49They make you feel extremely uncomfortable and they make you feel like you can't do much.
06:54And he did that today.
06:56And yeah, I'm not sure, but I don't think he would have played many better matches than today.
07:02I don't think.
07:03But he can be the judge of that.
07:06But he was exceptional and credit to him.
07:09Played great level.
07:11Hi Jack.
07:12Bad luck today.
07:13Just throwing forward to the grass a little bit.
07:15Obviously, being a British player at Wimbledon comes with a lot of hoo-ha no matter who you are.
07:21But given your status in the game now, there's going to be a lot of hype, a lot of attention.
07:27Do you have any anxiety about that?
07:29Do you feel ready for it?
07:30Yeah.
07:31I mean, I haven't thought about it too much in all honesty.
07:34I've been focused on what I've been doing here.
07:37You know, I've obviously spoken in the past about being anxious and the stuff at the US Open and all those sort of things.
07:47But I had to learn also a lot about why I was...
07:51The reason why I was throwing up at US Open I found out was to do with the fact that I was taking lots of painkillers for an injury that I had as well.
07:59So that wasn't the anxiety.
08:01I learned that lesson because I think I did it and I had it indoors in the first set or something.
08:06So it's weird, like when I'm on the tennis court, it's probably the place I'm least anxious in a way.
08:11You know, I feel great when I'm on a tennis court.
08:13So I've learned a lot about, you know, my body and my...
08:17Sometimes as tennis players, we have to take on so much fluid and my stomach's quite sensitive.
08:23So sometimes I get a lot of tummy problems and that causes me to, you know, throw up almost.
08:33But no, I mean, look, I think it will be an experience for me for sure.
08:38I don't know what to expect.
08:40But I feel confident.
08:41I feel happy.
08:42You know, I've had a lot of experiences this year where I'm playing Australians in Australia and Frenchies in France.
08:49And, you know, there's not been many places where I've got, like, the crowd with me.
08:52So that would be nice to hopefully be at home and have the crowd with me.
08:57And, you know, I feel like I'm still playing amazing tennis and let's see what I can do there.
09:02Jack, do you feel it's the kind of loss that could linger or do you think you're pretty good at moving on from disappointment?
09:11Yeah, I mean, I'm hurting like for sure.
09:13I'm really disappointed.
09:14You know, I had an opportunity today and I missed my opportunity for sure.
09:18You know, I struggled to put things in perspective, but I think I am proud of the effort that I've done on the clay.
09:29I think I've really improved.
09:30I think last year I was leaving here, first round loss, being 40 in the world and very disappointed with my tennis and not sure, you know, where I was going with it.
09:43And this year I'm leaving number five in the world.
09:46I've made the fourth round.
09:47I'm playing consistently really good tennis week in, week out.
09:51And, yeah, I mean, I always use the lessons from my losses.
09:58I always use the fuel and the hurt to better myself.
10:03And, yeah, it will take a couple of days probably to get over it, but I will and I'll move on and I'll keep on getting better.
