00:00Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has rejected suggestions that he is seeking personal

00:05immunity from legal proceedings following the dismissal of his application to refer

00:10eight legal questions arising from a civil suit filed by a former aide to the federal court.

00:15Anwar's remarks come amid debate surrounding a civil suit filed by his former research assistant

00:20Yusuf Rother, in which questions have arisen about whether the Prime Minister is seeking

00:24legal immunity to avoid standing trial. In a Facebook post, Anwar said the issue

00:29was never about seeking personal immunity or avoiding legal scrutiny.

00:34He added that it concerns the integrity of the constitutional system and the need to

00:37protect high public office from lawsuits that may be strategically timed, politically motivated,

00:43or disruptive to institutions. He added that the legal process will continue as required

00:48and that he would continue to discharge his responsibilities without distraction or compromise.

00:55At a press conference after the Kuala Lumpur High Court dismissed Anwar's application,

00:59his lawyer, K. Rajasegaran, said his legal team will immediately file an appeal to the Court of

01:04Appeal. Rajasegaran said the eight questions submitted were neither abstract nor academic in nature,

01:10but pertained to serious and unresolved constitutional issues.
