00:00What's up guys, EverythingApplePro here, and today I'm going to be doing a drop test of the brand new Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.
00:06Now this is not the S6, however, it's the step up from the S6, a little bit more expensive.
00:11I mean, this thing is so different from the S5, it's hard to imagine Samsung just did a 180 and started copying Apple with their Samsung Galaxy S6.
00:19This thing looks so similar to an iPhone, you know, I'm getting confused which one I'm holding in either hand.
00:24But anyways, I'm really curious how the Gorilla Glass 4 on the front and back of this phone will hold up to the ion-strengthened glass on the iPhone 6.
00:31Now I gotta say, the Galaxy S6 has a truly beautiful design.
00:34This thing has an all-aluminium border, it looks great, the glass just gives it a real premium quality.
00:39This thing looks miles better than the Samsung Galaxy S5, but is it more durable?
00:43Now Samsung has removed that waterproofing and the dustproofing, so this thing is just like the iPhone.
00:48Let's go ahead and put it to the test, see how this thing stands up durability-wise.
00:52I mean, a year from now, I mean, if you're going to be using it, is it going to have a lot of wear on it?
00:55Is it going to scratch easy? Is it going to break easy if you drop it?
00:58And I want to test waist height, head height, and a 10-foot drop and face down for both of these.
01:03Let's go ahead and get started.
01:04Alright, so this is the waist height drop.
01:06Say you're taking the phone out of your pocket, you slip, and the phone falls out of your pocket.
01:11Let's see how it handles a side drop test.
01:13First up is the iPhone 6.
01:15Alright, so dropping in 3, 2, 1.
01:22Alright, I mean, I didn't expect any damage, but it just has a lot of scratches right there.
01:29Nothing bad, no dents.
01:30Cool, holds up well.
01:32Hurts my heart to do this.
01:34This thing is so beautiful.
01:36Yeah, in the name of testing the durability.
01:39Alright, so waist height drop test.
01:423, 2, 1.
01:44So, it fell a little bit on the screen there, but looks just like the iPhone.
01:55It did have a scratch right there in the corner.
01:57Nothing too bad.
01:58No real dents, no chips in the glass.
02:01Looks good.
02:02So, let's go ahead and see how this translates to a head height fall.
02:06Alright, so these guys did surprisingly well for the waist height.
02:09Very minimal damage, if any at all.
02:11Let's go ahead and see, say it was arm day at the gym.
02:14It's just too hard.
02:15You cannot hold your phone up to your head, and you've got to drop the phone.
02:19Alright, so iPhone head height drop test in 3, 2, 1.
02:28Yeah, nothing too bad.
02:29I don't even see a dent.
02:31I mean, this thing holds up pretty well.
02:33Looks good.
02:34Let's go ahead and do the same to the Galaxy S6.
02:37I mean, brutal workouts.
02:38If you go to the gym, you know what I'm talking about.
02:42Alright, so head height in 3, 2, 1.
02:51Ooh.
02:53That landed on the face a little bit too.
02:55So, main impact down here.
02:58And it translated to up here a little bit.
03:01No cracks in the glass.
03:02Surprisingly, this thing did well, even though it landed on its face.
03:06So, both of these guys still holding up really well.
03:10Let's go ahead and see the 10-foot drop test.
03:12And I've got to say, predictions, I didn't think this thing would last even this long.
03:15But I think this is going to be breaking first.
03:17It's got glass on all sides.
03:19And the border is really thin aluminum.
03:21So, let's go ahead and see how this does in the 10-foot drop test.
03:25Alright.
03:27Okay.
03:28Alright.
03:28This is the 10-foot drop test.
03:31And this isn't looking good.
03:33These are going to break.
03:34No doubt about it.
03:35Alright.
03:36So, here we go.
03:3710 feet.
03:383, 2, 1.
03:401.
03:411.
03:411.
03:42Boom.
03:43I mean, this thing landed on its back.
03:53Ooh.
03:55Yeah.
03:55The camera has cracked.
03:56That sapphire lens definitely cracked.
03:59It's really brittle.
04:02Does it just smears the phone a little bit?
04:04I don't know.
04:05But, the phone is working.
04:07Now, we're going to come back to this to do a face-down drop test.
04:09But, it looks like if you drop it straight down to 10 feet, your camera glass will break.
04:14Here we go for the Galaxy S6.
04:16This thing is just all glass.
04:18It's hard to imagine.
04:19It won't break on this drop test.
04:21Anyways, here we go.
04:2210-foot drop test.
04:23Galaxy S6.
04:25Again, I can't guarantee how it's going to land.
04:27I will try and land it on its side.
04:28But, who knows how it will land.
04:31Okay.
04:3210-foot drop test in 3, 2, 1.
04:35Ooh.
04:36Fuck.
04:36Fuck.
04:37Fuck.
04:37Fuck.
04:37Fuck.
04:37Fuck.
04:38Fuck.
04:38Fuck.
04:38Fuck.
04:38Fuck.
04:38Fuck.
04:39Fuck.
04:40Fuck.
04:41Wow.
04:43Nothing has happened.
04:44I mean, the glass has, it definitely touched the concrete.
04:48However, on the border, there's a chip.
04:52Some chips here.
04:55Surprisingly did really well.
04:57I mean, both of these did land flat on their back.
04:59This is glass.
05:00So, here we are showcasing the damage.
05:02So, the iPhone, the aluminum back really takes in a lot of the concrete shape.
05:07A lot of scratches.
05:08S6 certainly looks better at this point.
05:12All right.
05:13Let's go to the face down drop test.
05:15So, here we are in the face down drop test.
05:17I'm going to start at waist high and work my way up.
05:19I personally don't see either one surviving any of these.
05:23It's just hard to believe, really, that they could survive a face down impact.
05:27I will try and do it as, you know, straight as possible.
05:30I can't guarantee they will fall on their face.
05:31But anyways, here we go.
05:33So, waist high drop test in three, two, one.
05:37All right.
05:41I can already see the S6 has survived.
05:44No notable damage except on the borders and that.
05:47Aluminium is really tough.
05:48It looks to be taking all the abuse very well.
05:50So, oh, there we go.
05:53Waist high iPhone done.
05:56It's fun while it lasted.
05:58So, here we can see the S6 clearly is the clear winner.
06:02Let's see how much it takes to break this guy.
06:04So, we're going to go to the head high drop test.
06:06So, this is the head high face down drop test.
06:09I'm going to keep going on the iPhone 6.
06:11I'm going to see how much it takes to, you know, kill it.
06:13Completely destroy it and to crack the S6.
06:16All right.
06:16So, head high drop test in three, two, one.
06:27So, the iPhone was fractured more.
06:29Still alive.
06:31Still usable.
06:33Oh, really nervous about this one.
06:37Wow.
06:38Looks like there's a scuff on the screen.
06:41So, definitely a scratch.
06:42I can feel it with my finger.
06:46Some scratches over here.
06:48Yet, still functional.
06:50This is unbelievable.
06:52One more test left and that's the 10 foot drop test.
06:55That's just unbelievable.
06:56That Gorilla Glass 4.
06:58Not only did it survive on the M9, on the S6, this thing is still intact.
07:02Crazy.
07:03iPhone 6 face down drop test.
07:0510 feet.
07:06Just want to see if I can kill this thing, really.
07:08Three, two, one.
07:14Oh, I saw a whole bunch of glass fall out of that one.
07:17Oh, man.
07:20I can start to see the internals in here.
07:24Yeah.
07:25Digitizer looks to be working.
07:27The whole screen assembly is coming out of the body here.
07:30Brutal, but still working.
07:33Crazy.
07:33And here's where it counts.
07:34Where the Galaxy S6 meets its demise.
07:37Let's see if a face down 10 foot drop test could finally put this thing out of its misery.
07:41I will try and drop this on its face as best as I can.
07:45All right.
07:46So, face down 10 foot drop test in three, two, one.
07:50Yep.
07:51That did it.
07:52So, looks like it has cracked even though the cracks are here on the top.
08:06It's really hard to see them down below unless you shift it in the sunlight.
08:09Looks like it is working.
08:11You know, it's hard to imagine any phone 10 foot drop test could withstand it.
08:16But, man, this thing really took a lot of abuse up until that test.
08:20So, definitely more durable than the iPhone.
08:23Samsung took the design from iPhone, yet they perfected the durability on it.
08:28Looks really good.
08:30For a phone this thin, it's really, really impressive.
08:32All right.
08:33And for a final test, I want to crack that back.
08:35I'm going to try and drop it face down.
08:37See if it would crack.
08:38Rear glass face down drop test in three, two, one.
08:48Yep.
08:49It's not bad, but there's just one, two hairline cracks going straight through it.
08:54So, the back holds up surprisingly well.
08:57Front, it's still usable.
08:59I mean, it doesn't disturb me so much.
09:01So, comparing these two, you can see that the iPhone certainly is not as durable as Samsung's latest offering.
09:06They use a tougher aluminum and a better Gorilla Glass screen technology.
09:11Samsung certainly has the upper hand here in durability.
09:13If you're one with butterfingers and you're going to drop your phone a lot, this phone is going to hold up better.
09:18So, in the last test, I just want to know.
09:20Say you're taking a selfie out of your window.
09:22You want to try something new and you drop your phone on the freeway.
09:25And I want to know how it fares against a car running it over.
09:28So, in the final test, let's just see if this thing holds up to a car.
09:32Oh, man, this looks so bad.
09:45I mean, look at the back.
09:46This thing has cracked in a million different places.
09:49That camera glass has flattened.
09:52It looks real bad.
09:53The frame doesn't look too bad, but, yeah, the front has cracked even worse.
09:58Still working, though.
09:59So, man, this whole thing is caving in a little bit right here.
10:04Ouch, ouch.
10:05Do not drop your phone on the freeway.
10:08It will not fare well.
10:09The iPhone, the aluminum, has bent in real bad.
10:13It was bent one way.
10:15Now it's bent the complete opposite.
10:16And the glass is coming out up here.
10:19So, the frame on the Galaxy S6 is certainly more sturdy than the one on the iPhone.
10:25Let's see if this thing still works.
10:27Nope, it is dead.
10:29It does not power on.
10:32Yeah, this thing will not survive being run over by a car.
10:38Yeah, Galaxy S6 is still working.
10:39You can still use it.
10:41But, overall, Galaxy is certainly the more durable one compared to the iPhone 6.
10:46Alright, so in conclusion, the Galaxy S6 Edge certainly put up a fight.
10:50I mean, this thing is built real well.
10:52Not as good as the HTC One M9, but certainly really durable.
10:56Thanks for watching, guys.
10:57Have a great day.
10:57Hope you enjoyed this durability drop test.
10:59Peace.
