00:00Hope versus expectation.
00:02That's what I've been thinking about all day,
00:05ever since they got that conversation started.
00:08Hope versus expectation.
00:10Maybe it's a little campy, but yeah, I try,
00:14and you and I have talked about this a lot before.
00:16I try like hell to avoid expectation.
00:21I think that's where all of the sort of negativity
00:25or the anger or just kind of the bummer stuff
00:29and life lives.
00:30It all lives within expectation.
00:34You can have expectation of like the people closest to you.
00:39I would hope that spouses are out there expecting
00:41that their partner is faithful and kind
00:45and things like that.
00:46But for example, having an expectation
00:50that because it's a big game,
00:54Jimmy Butler will shoot 30 times and score 38
00:58because of his nickname and because you want him to,
01:01I just, I don't know.
01:02I'm out on that.
01:04I'm out on this idea because it just,
01:07like expectation and disappointment
01:09are completely linked with one another.
01:11And we can apply it to the Warriors offseason for sure
01:14because of the comment you just referenced from Shams
01:17that the craziest offseason of all time
01:20is loading and on deck currently.
01:22Yeah, I just want the Warriors,
01:26I expect the Warriors to between now and October get better.
01:32That's my expectation.
01:33It's not my hope.
01:34It's my expectation.
01:35So am I expecting them to land either Giannis or LeBron
01:41or whoever you want to fill in the blank?
01:43Kevin Durant is likely on the move.
01:45I don't think that Phoenix,
01:46and we can get more into the Brian Windhorst article
01:48and he talks about second apron
01:50and a lot of NBA mumbo jumbo
01:52that I won't bore people with,
01:53but there are certain teams
01:55that are going to move certain high-priced players.
01:58And I think that Phoenix is one
01:59and Kevin Durant will be a guy who will be like Darren Ruff.
02:03He'll be on the move.
02:05KD's on the move.
02:06And so, yeah, I'm borrowing it from you.
02:09So do I want the Warriors to be a big-time player
02:12for a big-time guy?
02:14Well, yeah.
02:15I hope that they would be able to add another superstar,
02:19but I don't expect them to play off
02:21of the way you're laying it out there.
02:22You know what?
02:23I actually think that the concept is funny,
02:26and I want to shout out,
02:28speaking of negativity,
02:31because we're on that topic,
02:33I'd love to shout out a couple of YouTube users
02:36who literally live only in that space.
02:39So, for instance, I'm talking to you, Austin,
02:41and whoever the person is that Moonlights is at Copest Control,
02:45who pointed out a few minutes ago
02:47that I got dragged all weekend long
02:50because of my take on X,
02:53also known as Twitter,
02:55that I didn't want Giannis on the Warriors,
02:58which got picked up by Newsweek and all of this stuff,
03:00because it's like, how the hell?
03:02They called it head-scratching.
03:04How the hell could this person
03:05on the Warriors' flagship station, thank you,
03:07say that he's out on Giannis to the Warriors?
03:12Simply because, and again,
03:14this is a big part of the conversation,
03:16context is so dead.
03:18Everybody who listened to the show,
03:20you could agree, you could disagree.
03:22Grandy, you'll back me up on this.
03:23Nobody walked away from the show and went,
03:25that makes no sense at all.
03:27I don't even understand what he's saying,
03:29but that's what it looks like on Twitter.
03:31You just brought this up.
03:33You'll be disappointed if they don't get a big boy.
03:35Let me tell you right now, you're going to be disappointed.
03:38No, I said I wouldn't be disappointed.
03:40I said I don't have the expectation
03:42that they go out there and get a big boy.
03:45But you hope.
03:46You do?
03:47I can tell you right now, it's not happening.
03:49But I hope, but that doesn't mean,
03:51like with any other hope,
03:52I hope I win Mega Millions in the upcoming drawing,
03:56but if I don't, I'm not going to be disappointed.
03:58Well, why would you hope for them to,
04:00they just got their big guy.
04:02They just got him.
04:03And it's not enough.
04:05Well, no, it wasn't enough this time.
04:07And I don't think that it'll be enough next time either.
04:09Well, that's fine.
04:10And if you're going to have all these star players flying around
04:13and the Brian Windhorst piece was outlining
04:16that he thought that 14 of the 15 teams in the West
04:18were all going to try to, quote, go for it.
04:20They all think they can win.
04:22Right, which I think is fascinating.
04:23And the Warriors are definitely one of those 14.
04:26I don't know who the 15th might be New Orleans.
04:28He wouldn't name the team that he didn't think was,
04:31you know, thinking that they could actually go out there
04:33and do it.
04:34So if you're a team that thinks that you can go out there
04:36and get it done, I would hope that you're looking to get better.
04:39Well, so what he's also basically talking about,
04:42and we like to avoid talking about aprons
04:45unless we're talking about what we're going to cook tonight.
04:47Right.
04:47Because I don't think anybody gets it.
04:49And so I'm not going to act like I get it completely.
04:52All I know is this.
04:54I know that when they say the teams that are in the second apron,
04:58it's super expensive and they'd like to not be in the second apron anymore.
05:01So they'd like to get out.
05:02So all you need to know are the teams who are likely to want to get rid of big name players.
05:08They would like to get rid of good players.
05:11You already knew Phoenix.
05:12You just mentioned them.
05:13But the two other teams he names, Boston and Minnesota.
05:18Boston and Minnesota.
05:21And Boston makes even more sense because now their best player is going to miss next year.
05:25So they're not necessarily going to win.
05:27And Minnesota is probably not a market where they're going to want to do that.
05:31So when Bovada says today that the Warriors are the favorites to land Nas Reed,
05:35it starts to make you kind of wonder a little bit.
05:38And I guess that's what I'm getting at.
05:40Like, as a Warrior fan, stop getting distracted with Giannis.
05:46That's not how they're going to do it.
05:49They can't do that.
05:51Steve Kerr literally said last week, and this was the basis of our conversation,
05:56that the concept is ludicrous.
05:59They just got their big guy.
06:01And all of their best players are already 35 or above.
06:05So to package a truck full of future assets to go get a player to pair with Steph
06:13when they just finally got someone to pair with Steph makes no sense.
06:18This is from Tolbert's show on YouTube.
06:20I don't think you've heard this yet, have you?
06:22You've got to hear this.
06:23Listen to what Steve Kerr is saying here.
06:26I think the Jimmy trade was a clear indication that we're going for it the next couple of years.
06:32You know, they gave Jimmy the extension.
06:34His contract lines up with Draymond's and Steph's.
06:37They each have two years remaining.
06:39Jimmy is one of the best players in the league.
06:41We instantly became one of the best teams in the league when he got here.
06:45Yeah, we're going for it these next two years.
06:47We're not in a position because, you know, Steph's 37.
06:51Yeah.
06:51Jimmy, 36.
06:53Draymond, 35.
06:54And it's not my job.
06:55It's Mike's job to determine all this stuff.
06:58But can you imagine trading away your next, like, seven drafts, you know,
07:03with a team of, you know, built around three guys who were 36, 37?
07:07Like, that doesn't make a whole lot of sense, right?
07:09So I think what we're doing makes sense.
07:12Like, we got Jimmy.
07:14I think finding, you know, another cornerstone next to Steph for these last couple of years was crucial.
07:20That's the hard part.
07:20And these last couple of years have shown that, you know,
07:24it's been really hard, you know, after we won our title in 22.
07:28Last couple of years have been tough.
07:29We haven't, we needed somebody like Jimmy.
07:31Well, we got him now.
07:32He's still really good.
07:33I think it's, I think we're set up to go for it the next two years.
07:37But, yeah, you don't give up, you know, four firsts and three swaps and not when your guys are 37.
07:43So, yeah, I think that's how we're operating.
07:45That's how Mike is operating.
07:46I think he's fantastic at his job.
07:49And my job is to, you know, coach the team and see what we can do.
07:52All right.
07:52So I'll be the crazy person that says I'm out on the Giannis idea.
07:55Steve just said it, too.
07:57He just didn't use his name.
07:58He's not allowed to.
08:00This would be ludicrous.
08:01They just worked for two years to find an opportunity to get Steph his running mate.
08:07And he used past tense every time he brought it up.
08:11Steph needs a running mate.
08:12And we did that.
08:14Right.
08:14We already did that.
08:16No mention of Draymond Green in that minute and a half soundbite.
08:19Fair point.
08:19So, I mean, there is a possibility that Draymond Green, who has, he does not have a no trade clause.
08:25He could be a part of something to where, you know.
08:28I mean, Milwaukee wants Draymond Green for their asset.
08:31They're going to want all the picks.
08:32Well, you've got a five-team trade that you're working with and coming in a sign-in trade and you've got other assets.
08:38All I'm saying is that I don't think that it's 100% off the table that something happens.
08:43Now, he's talking about Jimmy as a running mate to Steph.
08:46Yeah, Jimmy and Steph.
08:48I didn't hear him say, you know, the big three and Draymond Green and the rest of that.
08:52Of course not.
08:53But, again, I don't think shopping at the highest-priced store, it doesn't make any sense for the Warriors.
09:00Like, for them to be involved this offseason, to me, does mean names like Nas Reed or Michael Porter Jr. or Cam Johnson.
09:09That's the store.
09:10That's where they should shop.
09:11I wonder what Nas is going to make.
09:12I don't know.
09:13Because he is going to decline an option, reportedly.
09:15Right.
09:15Well, his option is only for, I think, $15 million.
09:18Exactly.
09:19So, if he's going to decline $15 million, that means he thinks he can get probably $30 million out there.
09:23And I don't know if the Warriors are going to be in a spot where they can do that.
09:26I don't know if he's going to get $30 million.
09:27Part of this article that was written by Brian Windhorst also talks about players having to take a hell of a lot less.
09:34Because teams want to stay out of that punitive second apron.
09:38Right.
09:38I mean, how many times when we talk about Kaminga have we heard them go, no one has any money?
09:42Nobody's got any money.
09:44So, what's Nas going to command?
09:46Probably less than he'd hope.
09:48Nobody's got any money.
09:49Everybody wants to get out of the apron.
09:51You know, you guys talked last week, actually Grandy on What's Bugging You, he put his guns right at the CBA.
10:00And he's absolutely right.
10:02Like, we've reached a new era.
10:03Well, what did he say?
10:04Grandy, would you like to speak for yourself?
10:07What's bugging me was the fact that in a couple of years, OKC's going to have to blow up their homemade team because the new CBA won't allow them to keep everybody around.
10:15So, what's the solution?
10:17Like, an uncapped league?
10:18Don't do with the CBA the way you did the CBA.
10:21Well, I just wonder, like...
10:22Your own drafted players, you should be able to keep them around without the penalties that now teams are being forced to stand at.
10:29I agree.
10:29And that was a Warriors-based kind of rule when it came into play originally.
10:34I think a lot of us have shared that opinion, but years gone by, that the Warriors should not have to pay the same kind of penalties on Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green.
10:44They drafted those guys.
10:45They cultivated those guys.
10:47They grew those guys.
10:48They could sign Kaminga because they have his bird rights, and they would not have the same level of penalties as they would by bringing in a free agent.
10:56Correct.
10:56Correct.
10:57But the penalties should be even lesser than they are, I would argue.
11:00Yeah, I wonder because you look at the NBA right now, and we can talk about this as it relates to baseball, because in baseball, you've got, what, three or four teams that spend over $300 million, and you've got six or eight teams who don't even spend $80 million.
11:16And so, is that better for a sport, or what the NBA is doing, which is, we're now going to have a seventh different champ in seven years.
11:23Like, what do you want to do with your sport?
11:25Football's different because, you know, every year, with a schedule.
11:31Hard cap, and it's hard cap instead of soft cap.
11:32But you can find a quarterback, and you can be good for a long time.
11:36And football, the parity is going to be built in in football anyway because you've got 53 guys, and you've got injuries.
11:43I wonder which people prefer, like the wide-open parity of the NBA or baseball, which is, you've got about eight teams that have a chance this year.
11:52Well, no, I would much prefer the NBA or Major League Baseball.
11:55Baseball has teams that are playing a completely different sport.
11:59This is kindergartners versus fifth graders.
12:01Exactly.
12:01Well, a lot of times.
12:03And so, no, I would never prefer that.
