00:00Chapter 3. Coffee, Rain, Men, and Death.
00:06Rain slid down the windows in lazy, hypnotic streaks.
00:10Daniel sat at the same table in Kefir Jewels, the notebook unopened beside his coffee.
00:16He hadn't touched it all morning.
00:18Not yet.
00:20He watched people pass by with umbrellas like floating jellyfish, faceless and hurried.
00:25His world was quieter now, even when it shouldn't be.
00:30As if the moment he accepted the notebook was the moment everything else faded.
00:35He opened it.
00:37New writing.
00:38With the silver umbrella.
00:42Brill knows.
00:46Daniel looked up so fast he nearly spilled his drink.
00:50Across the street, standing perfectly still, was a man in a black coat.
00:54The umbrella above his head gleamed metallic silver, untouched by the wind, as if he were waiting.
01:02Daniel blinked.
01:04The man didn't move.
01:07He looked back at the notebook.
01:09A second line had appeared.
01:11Don't follow him.
01:13You're not ready yet.
01:14His skin prickled.
01:18He looked again.
01:19The man was gone.
01:21He shut the notebook, shoved it into his bag, and tossed the money onto the table.
01:27His heart was racing now, his instincts torn between curiosity and fear.
01:32Outside, the rain felt colder than it should, metallic, like static in the air.
01:39He turned down the street toward home, trying not to look over his shoulder, but someone was behind him.
01:45Footsteps.
01:47Slow.
01:49Measured.
01:50He turned.
01:51No one.
01:53He took out the notebook again.
01:55The page was blank.
01:56He flip-sipped it.
01:57Then another.
01:59All blank.
01:59Then, in a space that had been cleaned seconds ago, you changed the pattern.
02:07Daniel stared at the words.
02:10The pattern.
02:11What pattern?
02:13A memory stirred.
02:15His sister's voice.
02:17The dream.
02:18The warning.
02:20He walked faster.
02:23Almost running.
02:24By the time he reached his apartment door, he was soaked to the bone.
02:28He slammed it, shut behind him, and locked every bolt.
02:33He looked down at the notebook.
02:35One last time.
02:37New words again.
02:40Someone else.
02:43Jorge opened it there.
02:45The motor.
02:45The motor.

02:55The motor.

02:58He looked at the motor.
03:00The motor.
03:00The motor.
03:01The motor.
03:01He looked.
