00:00maddie and tay welcome back to biscuits and jam hello you're making me hungry already i want some
00:06biscuits and i will say nashville has some of the best biscuits and jam at loveless cafe we uh go
00:12there very often we've like got a hook up there and everything is there biscuits and jam sometimes
00:17have you ever gotten the jenny's biscuits and uh jam ice cream no it is so good it's probably my
00:25favorite thing to get they need to sponsor us i know a little collaboration well it's great to see
00:32y'all um it's been a minute you know the last time we talked was in the summer of 2022 i think wow
00:41oh my gosh so a lot has happened since then um and especially when it comes to to babies i mean taylor
00:49you had your second right i did and that's like six months ago yep um well how's it going how's he
00:58doing he's great two having two is just like a full house at all times it's chaos and it's amazing and
01:05we're still like trying to figure out the sleep he was sleeping through the night and then now he's
01:08waking up so i'm like i think it's just an evolution but it is so fun i love it tell me about his name
01:15and how you landed on that his name is chapel spelled like the church just one p one l um and
01:22his middle name is shields and that's after my father-in-law my father-in-law his middle name is
01:26as well and we kind of went back and forth on whether or not to make that the first name because
01:30it's just so cool she holds me but his nickname or his uh initials are csk which i just think is
01:36so cool chapel shields kirk oh that's great it sounds like yeah it could be almost like a name out of
01:43i don't know yellowstone or yeah or like an author or an author yeah oh that's great and uh maddie you've
01:52got a son named forest now right i do yes well i know that um that was not the easiest delivery to
02:01say the least um and that was going back a little longer a little a while ago but um how's he doing
02:08he is so good he's one and a half now going on like 13 just so wild and fun and um i'm just so
02:18i'm so excited for t to join the boy mom club i'm so excited and i think i think between layton like
02:25layton is gonna boss the boys around and i'm so cool with that because layton she is just like
02:30kind and smart and thoughtful and you know very like cautious so she's gonna be the great leader
02:38of this you know group here she's gonna have to wrangle the crazy cat the crazy cat yeah because
02:42our boys i mean my boy is wild um but he's just so sweet and fun girl he woke up last night in the
02:49middle of night ended up my bed too what time midnight oh okay mine was like three oh
02:54well what's worse hey girl are you up so do y'all have nicknames i mean what are you what are you
03:01known as to each other's kids is it like aunt maddie or you know yeah layton calls me maddie yeah and
03:09then forest calls her tay tay and it's yeah and he's really melts me the tay tay tay he's saying it's so
03:16good now and i'll be like i'll be like do you want to go play with layton huh tay tay baby baby yeah
03:22it's because chapel's just baby chapel has to wait to upgrade to chapel he's just baby right now
03:28well that's great that's great now you guys are about to give birth to something else uh with this
03:37new album um let me tell you it's way hard we are full term right now way harder yes album is much
03:43harder than pursuing a baby it's past three years uh yeah yeah and here you are and this thing is about
03:51to go out into the world um and your career is um on overdrive and your family life is on overdrive
04:01how are y'all managing all this it's honestly day by day and really leaning on each other like i normally
04:08can tell when she's having a day that like she's feeling spread thin and she can only tell when i'm
04:14feeling spread thin and we just kind of like you know take over when we can um but it truly is day
04:22by day and it's really taught us like one of t's superpowers is compartmentalizing that was not one of
04:28my superpowers and i've really had to learn like when i go home i mean obviously we have to be on our
04:34phones and you know answering and approving and all these kind of things but we try to be really
04:39really present when we are with our kids um but when we're working and on the road we are
04:46you know as focused as we possibly can be but it's hard like there it's it's how did you say that
04:52one time it's like sometimes you'll be on stage and like your heart is at home and then sometimes
04:57you're at home and you're craving to like be on stage and it's just this like i feel like that's
05:01like the hardest part at least for us and you'll hear the the pool on chasing babies raising dreams
05:06that that's just like truly where we're at in our lives like when we're with our babies
05:11or on our phones approving photos or doing the track listing or you know hiring people for our
05:17crew and then we're on stage we're thinking okay is our baby asleep how are the dads did they get
05:22enough milk like all of the things our brains are on overdrive 24 7 um it's a very full busy life
05:29there is not a moment of stillness but yeah that's okay yeah well yeah time is really the biggest
05:36challenge isn't it i mean there's just not enough time in the day and you know as a parent um that's
05:41one of the first things you realize is that um there's just you know um there's just no time to do
05:49to do everything absolutely yeah i just there's like my new motto at the end of the day because i am
05:55like a super perfectionist like try to be on top of everything like not miss anything and at the end of
06:00the day i always like when i'm praying and stuff i'm like i did the best i could today with what was
06:05give it for the day yes and i can rest easy knowing right i tried to be the best mom best
06:11wife for guest business partner best friend like i tried to do my best and sometimes it sucks but i
06:18tried my best you know i can't think of another duo in country music that is going through this stage
06:27of parenting together or has done that together i mean there's just not really a playbook for this
06:33are there people in the in the music world that um you guys um connect to or can get advice from
06:43or are you really kind of it's really just you know the two of you kind of going through it together
06:48i feel like we are creating our own blueprint for us there are so many amazing women and men that we
06:54have looked up to in his career dirks bentley being one he's an amazing father and you're with him he
06:59there's evidence of that um and we went on tour with carrie underwood and at the time i think she
07:04had her youngest was about the age of chathar who was like six months old and then um she had two
07:10eggs on the road she was doing the full thing touring every night taking care of her babies and
07:14that was really incredible to watch we i don't even think we're married at that point so it was cool to
07:19see that it can be done um but in our position we are just riding on one bus just the two of us with
07:26our um well not on the bus just two of us but our whole camp's on the bus whole crew we're doing a
07:31little bit differently than she did so we're just dying there's just not as many resources as someone
07:38at her level would have and so we have to get really creative with like you know how long you
07:44know we have like boundaries set in place of like how long we're okay leaving our babies and when we're
07:50not okay leaving our babies and um but just trying to find that balance but i will it is hard because
07:56there's not really like someone right now you know what who who really i connect with a lot is gabby
08:02barrett she has three babies um and her husband also plays in her band so um her and i have connected a
08:10lot um that's probably the only other artist that's like in our same season so that yeah yeah do you have
08:18um uh you know parents siblings um who've been pitching in um and have helped out oh my gosh
08:26yes my mother-in-law is incredible she's actually in town right now um and my son adores her but her
08:33and um i have incredible sister-in-laws that help um but mainly it's just me and my husband just you
08:41know going day by day and just you know taking turns like okay you get to go shower and go as fast
08:47as you can to come back before he destroys everything i mean you should have seen us
08:51trying to have a fitting for our tour oh we were very ambitious we have like 16 outfits that we
08:56needed to get and i was like you know what just bring the babies we'll have a play day it'll be
08:59fun and our stylist has a four or five month old as well we had four babies and three mamas and one
09:08nanny and we go like almost halfway through the outfits yeah like we have to yeah it was there was a
09:14couple meltdowns and you know yeah so we learned the hard way that maybe no babies add long things
09:21when y'all think about uh your own moms and how you grew up what are some things that you kind of take
09:29away from from them um when you're you know thinking about how to be a good mom yourself i think
09:38i'm thankful that our moms let us spread our wings and fly and i think that that's something
09:45as much as i joke around i'm like layton's gonna look like me forever and she's never gonna get
09:49married maybe to her dad but it's fine yes email like a little faith butings the dad yeah i love it
09:55but i really want to i really want to let her be herself and let her wings fly and she has to go to
09:59school she doesn't want to go to school she wants to be a singer and as of right now she wants to be a
10:03singer but we'll try to steer that ship a different direction um but i think that that's
10:07something that both our parents yeah yeah just as a reminder um for listeners who may not have heard
10:15our first conversation um so maddie you grew up in texas i did yes um and taylor you grew up in
10:23in oklahoma right yes yes y'all met when you were 15 is that right 15 so you guys have been in
10:31this together for for quite a while we have known each other for this year we both turned 30 and so
10:38we will have known each other for half of our lives this year um and i would not have it any other
10:45way but it is wild to think back to like 15 and meeting through this like weird vocal coach guy that
10:51was like in between you know oklahoma and texas that we just both happened to be going it was it's a
10:56total god thing like there's no way that like the stars aligned like that um but there are times
11:02when i like just a picture pops up on my phone i'm like oh my god this is crazy yeah you know you
11:08mentioned um it being a god thing and you know y'all have both been pretty open about your faith
11:14um what does your faith look like in 2025 i mean is it you know is it about being part of a church
11:22or is it just something more kind of personal what a beautiful question first of all i think
11:28there's a first for everything we've never ever had a question i know and that just brought life
11:32into me and i think it's it's different for everybody like for me me and my family we we have
11:38found a church home that we love here in nashville and i serve with the babies um and it's funny
11:44because there's like times when the parents are like you look so familiar i'm like oh it's just
11:48because i was here last week and then they find out they're like oh my god and like it's just like
11:52so sweet but um for me my faith in 2025 looks like total surrender like yeah there have been
11:59things that have happened in my personal life and just professionally and everything and then turning
12:0530 just all of these things um where i really feel god just like saying be still and let me do my thing
12:13like i think sometimes i think i can you know oh if i do this or if i work this hard or if i you know
12:19then then this will work out that way and i just feel god's gentle kind voice being like hey i
12:25actually thought this and all you gotta do is walk all you gotta do is just walk and i say i'm paving
12:31the road and just have peace in that and that i have like found so much peace but this year my i think
12:38my like fake word is surrendering i love that i've i found a lot of peace um i'm in a women's group
12:44and we're reading the book risen motherhood and it's amazing the first chapter is the mom
12:49describing she's like potty training and how much patience that requires i remember the first
12:54time i opened that book we were in the middle of potty training late and i was like yes like i feel
12:58so seen um but being in a women's group and just kind of getting to talk about the days the ins and
13:05outs of motherhood and just kind of especially with women in the industry it's such a unique
13:09position to be and we're all working mothers trying to find that balance so that has been
13:14a lot of peace for me well you're definitely both at a stage in life and career when you know you have
13:19to think that everything is just so much bigger than you and so much more than you can handle you know
13:26oh absolutely and that's the good news is we all have to handle it all we don't have to know
13:31everything like that's what when i'm like starting to feel that like this anxious energy and like
13:36feeling of alarm i'm like wait i don't have to have it all figured out i don't i just have to
13:40put one foot in front of the other and just do my best and that's it but that has taken a lot of
13:45time to get to that place well speaking of putting one foot in front of another and and uh just dealing
13:51with the day-to-day um can we talk about food for a second yes we can always talk always which y'all
13:59been together for a long time which one of you would you say is the better cook i'm such a good cook
14:04no i think tea can be a good cook but she doesn't have the time i don't like time but
14:14every time like anytime her and layton come over and me and my husband start cooking and stuff she
14:19is she's really good i think if you had the time i can make a mean breakfast i know yeah some
14:24bacon she could make a breakfast casket hey that's important yes yes that she makes a mean
14:29breakfast the rest of the day you're starving i maybe i am the better you for sure why are you
14:36saying maybe i mean sir the better i mean fumble queen oh dear but it just my husband is an incredible
14:44cook and we actually just started building a garden we live out on some property here in nashville and
14:49we're building like a full homestead like we've got more chickens and food you know and we're
14:55basically the goal is to not have to go to the grocery store um but um my like classics are
15:02like comfort stuff like the lasagnas and chicken pot pie chicken and dumplings i make a good kale salad
15:10like more it's like your tostadas with a tostada sweet potatoes yeah sweet potato tostadas are good
15:16um but i do try i'm like more my husband's sous chef but i do learn a lot that way i do make a good
15:22cheesecake sometimes they turn out raw and i have to start over but cheesecake is hard but that's a
15:28lot and i mean you know that's some and you're doing some some real southern dishes too i love
15:34the chicken pot pie and yeah let me tell you last night i the mental load i was like i can't think
15:40about dinner we're having a pot of rice and a fried egg and that's what's for dinner my son was so
15:44happy and so that's that's our little throw together meal put some fruit rock and roll so talk to me
15:50about your husband's cooking what's what's his like dish that he's kind of known for oh my gosh
15:56literally everything so my husband's puerto rican um and so he makes empanadas he makes arroz con
16:03maiz which is kind of this like rice with corn dish it's that is taste favorite she loves the arroz con
16:08maiz um and i mean he makes incredible he makes my favorite steak so like we don't even go on dates
16:15because he makes the best steak he makes incredible fajitas um he makes the you know those vietnamese
16:21like banh mi sandwiches oh yeah he just like tried that i was like i'm just gonna try this it was
16:26bomb.com it was so delicious yeah um so he literally can make anything and that all started because he's
16:33one of five and so when he would come home from school like his other siblings would be in sports or
16:39whatever um and he was in sports too but just when he was younger like his parents would be working or
16:43you know whatever and he'd be home by himself and so when he's like 10 years old he learned how to
16:47like make a pot of rice and fried egg and so he's like that's just kind of how it started and then
16:52he just got really really really good at it and he went to school for um food science and nutrition
16:57so he like kind of knows the science behind everything too and he could be a private chef
17:02oh absolutely he's but he is your private chef which works great yeah sometimes tea too
17:09is this part of how he wooed you maddie no we met in high school um so i have no he wasn't really
17:17cooking yet he wasn't really cooking yet no i think he was like yeah cook and pick up no he was no he
17:23has no he had no game and that's why i liked him because i was like oh he's not gonna be a player over
17:29here talking to all the girls he's just the cute like shy guy um but yeah now i'm like if i have a bad
17:36day he's like hey chicken piccata for dinner i'm like everything's right in the world again
17:41taylor when you think about who's the cook and your family that really you know um was was kind of
17:49the rock star cook of the family if there was one who comes to mind rock star cook of the family my
17:54parents actually made a lot of meals together we didn't yeah we didn't really eat a ton of home
18:00cooked meals um it was the same special occasion was that the 90s where parents were just like
18:04maybe there's a beef stick yeah whatever there's three of us kids and my brothers were in baseball
18:09literally every single day it was like all season baseball is happening so we ate a lot of pizzas um
18:14and i ate a lot of food at baseball games but my parents make their meals together which was always
18:20a really sweet thing to see but my husband is the cook in our family he makes good chili right that's
18:25his thing my dad makes good chili and my husband got the recipe for my dad yeah wait your buffalo chicken
18:30it's really good yeah thanks she makes it you just get you some rotisserie chicken shred it up put
18:35some cream cheese and cheese in there and that is so and what's it what's his you know the thing that
18:41he makes that you get most excited about thing that josh makes it that i get the most excited about he
18:47makes really good chicken wings in the air fryer he gets them nice and crispy and he does different
18:52flavors sometimes he'll do garlic parmesan some yeah sometimes he'll do buffalo and sometimes he
18:58makes like a spicy barbecue buffalo it's more of like the summer thing we don't really make it in
19:03the winter yeah you guys are gonna be just fine i know i don't know honestly my mother-in-law has
19:09been in town for like probably a week and a half now and she's like maddie how are you not 700 pounds
19:14because my husband like we just love to spoil her when she comes to town so like i'll make her coffee
19:19and she'll he'll make breakfast and you know just this whole thing because she's just wonderful but
19:22um she's like how like how and i'm like honestly i think the balance of like like some of the food
19:28that we make is grown like at our house so maybe like the balance of that i don't know and then
19:34chasing a kid around that'll keep you fit i'll tell you people are like what's y'all's workout routine
19:38chasing around children lifting babies lifting babies constantly having a baby on your hip and holding
19:45them they're like oh my gosh what do you do for your arms uh have a child have a baby that'll that'll
19:52tone them up right you know in a hurry yeah so this is kind of a random question but maddie i saw a
19:59picture of you and brenda lee oh my god who so she was on this podcast back in the fall and she was so much
20:09fun and it was such a thrill to get to talk to her but you know she's someone who had a career
20:16that really took off when she was a teenager much like you guys did yeah um even earlier i think she
20:22was became god famous at like 13. did you feel like a special connection to her did she have any
20:28advice for you it was a pretty quick interaction there was a lot of people wanting to talk to her
20:33and i and i feel like you know i we are never going to be the people that like hog someone else's
20:38time or you know we understand that you're getting pulled in different directions but brenda is like
20:44an icon in general but then also she's such a part of um me and my husband's like christmas traditions
20:51because of her record so i i didn't care if i look like a loser i literally brought a tote bag
20:57with my like original brenda lee vinyl that my husband found at this vinyl store that we love by
21:04her house and had her sign it for me and jonah my husband's like oh my gosh if you get this sign i
21:10was like babe she's probably never gonna talk to me she's like why are you asking me to sign a vinyl
21:14and she was like oh my gosh she appreciated she was like the fact that like you're gonna be sharing
21:19this with the younger generation the fact that you listen to vinyl and she's like i don't even know if
21:23i have this vinyl you can have it oh i'm signing it for you and it was so magical um and just like
21:31she's just as wonderful as i pictured and sometimes you meet your heroes and you're like
21:36oh but this was a hero that i was like oh my gosh she's everything i could have imagined she's so great
21:42and you go back and listen to some of those you know early records and they were really so well done
21:48um and it's just incredible her voice at 13 you cannot even believe that that she was you know
21:57that she's she's a true artist like when she was looking at the vinyl she's like i was like sir did
22:02you design all this artwork she's like oh yeah and i had to send it back so many times because the
22:05font wasn't right and the image you know and she was and i was like that i mean it made me feel so
22:10validated because tay and i are very much like that with with merch with imaging with everything we're
22:15very particular on how we want things to look our manager who designs everything which luckily she
22:21reads our minds so it's so much easier these days where she just like boom makes it but back in the
22:25day it was just like oh my gosh like it the it was just a lot trickier um you know having someone
22:33bring your vision to life that doesn't read your mind like kylie she was way ahead of her time and
22:39okay well let's talk about the new album um it's called love and light and i feel like this is gonna
22:49really be a big record for y'all oh you're lips to god you're gonna make me cry that is literally my
22:58prayer it really is something and um every song on there is so unique they all feel like hits to me and
23:07and um i'm just wondering you know what was the pivotal moment in this process when you felt like
23:14it was you know it was all coming together because i know it it it took a while did take a while
23:20pivotal moment i think it was for me i yeah i mean that yeah definitely with title track when it all
23:26came together but like i knew when we wrote kissing cowboys which kissing cowboys we started and didn't
23:31finish for a year like we went on tour and did a whole thing and then didn't finish the song for a
23:36whole year but that one i was like oh i think we found our just like i don't know our style our sound
23:46what that looks like right now the synopsis of the record basically yeah but love and light that was a
23:52really special day and it's funny because i think you'll hear this theme where there there's over the
23:57years we have been like burned by people and had all kinds of different adversity like every single
24:04human in the world does um but the difference is we try to take that adversity and heartbreak and
24:10disappointment and discouragement and turn it into something beautiful or positive or how can we grow
24:16from this how can we take the knowledge like less like oh this is happening to me and this is happening
24:21rep and more like this happening for me yeah and so love and light someone really burned us really bad
24:28that we trusted for a long time and i was pissed i was so mad i was not being a christian woman this
24:37week i was mad okay and so we went into the writing room and i was like i've always had this title
24:44and we wrote this with tay's husband and devin dawson and um i was like i have this title and i want it to be
24:52like sweet but also like a sour patch kid basically that's what i want you know the the vibe to be and
24:57it just fell out so i mean we wrote the song so quickly the minute we wrote love and light um it
25:03everything started coming together and we've done a couple interviews where people that haven't even
25:08listened to the record are like love and light when i think of maddie and tay i think of love and
25:12light and i'm like oh my gosh what a compliment like you know if someone thinks about us as artists
25:18like even if you don't know our music it's like if you think of love and light yeah that is that's
25:23definitely the legacy i'm gonna leave totally i mean i would never in a million years think that
25:28that song came out of uh you know a place of of you know of anger exactly that's that's our
25:37expertise even there's a song on the record called only jesus and that song came out of pure
25:42anger and heartbreak and frustration um i mean there were tears and everything and that was
25:49another perfect example of like taking pain and making it into um something positive i mean love
25:57and light is a song that makes you want to dance first of all and but it is also it does not sound
26:02to me like a country song i know yeah we definitely explored i think um this record has been in the making
26:10for almost three years or three years actually because the first song that was written for this
26:15record maddie wrote in a co-write by herself because i was on maternity leave yeah it's a song
26:20called one hit wonders and it's incredible um and i feel like when maddie wrote that one it really
26:25opened the doors for us to explore a different musical side i mean we've always loved like r&b and
26:31silk sonic and that was a huge inspiration for you writing one hit wonders i know and it just felt like
26:37all of these doors open we had so much more fun making this record without the limitations of is
26:41this country doesn't need a banjo you know just like let's just write a song and if it feels good
26:47it feels good um and thankfully the producers that we had on this record my husband being one of them
26:52cory crowder and chris la court they were able to take those songs that weren't sonically country and
27:00make them fit into this record which is special totally and this was the first time that we wrote an album
27:05without like um is this gonna belong on radio is this gonna be a hit yeah because that just really
27:12like destroys the creative process it is so hard to people please and be creative at the same time and
27:21so our goal was just to make music that we love that we you know identify with that we connect with
27:28and also no one knows our fan base like we do and so we trusted ourselves this album was like
27:34these are songs that our fans would love these are songs that our fans would hear themselves in
27:38that would connect with um and so we just we really trusted ourselves on this record i think this was
27:44the first record where we were like not doubting not you know overthinking everything like we normally
27:51do and i don't know if that's like years of experience and you know this is the fourth album so we
27:56got you know 15 years in the business you know under our belt or what it was um but also there's there's
28:04just um there was less pressure i think well it it feels like you kind of let it all hang out and
28:10it feels and it feels bigger it feels bigger the sound is bigger um thank you and you know the and
28:20one of the songs where that really comes through to me is the first song on the album which is called
28:27fall in love and find out and it's sneaky one yes it feels like a stadium song you know um or maybe
28:35like a big shania twain kind of song or something and um talk to me about that one and and how that
28:42came together oh i love that fall in love and find out is one of those sneaky songs we wrote it with
28:47brad tersey um just the three of us he's in the old dominion at his house um and it was just like
28:53a fun little title that i had and thankfully threw it out that day and it all resonated with us so we
28:58wrote this sexy song about being confident in yourself and knowing what you bring to the table
29:03and just kind of waiting for the man to to find out about the whole package that you got going on
29:08um and it was so fun and it definitely does feel like the opening of a record like it's like
29:13dipping your toes in like okay there's some confidence here we're getting a little
29:17sassy it's a stadium song i know and i love that song because it and we when we wrote it we knew
29:24this was going to be the first song on the album because it starts out kind of dainty with this like
29:28mandolin and you know it's like real sweet and then it's just rocking and and i think people there's a
29:34lot of there's been a couple people that are like live show like we didn't know that you rock like y'all
29:40like rock on say like we're rocking out it's not just like die for broken heart you know five times
29:46over and everyone's crying it's like no that's that's a small part of the set but we're we're
29:50jamming and we're dancing and we are rocking and rolling the whole the whole show um but fall in
29:57love and find out is is becoming one of my favorites on the record it's crazy it is such it's it's just um
30:04it feels good and yeah it does feel big i think josh produced it really well oh my gosh he crushed it
30:10yeah yeah it feels it feels big to me and and um i just uh i don't know i guess it's going to be up
30:17to your fans see how they respond and and the world they run our way i have a feeling they'll be they'll
30:23be singing that one at the top of their lungs i hope so all right i gotta ask you about a couple more
30:28and and one of them has the best title i've ever heard which is drunk girls in bathrooms
30:33um and i've heard y'all say i've heard y'all say that you lived that song together oh so i'm
30:41wondering is there a particular story that speaks to that oh my gosh yeah i mean t and i we a lot of
30:49people think that we're just like these like goody two-shoe gals but we just partied smarter than the
30:55boys okay like partying looks different these days where we i'm like oh we can't do hangovers she's
31:01recipe with you know this different kind of party these days but back in the day like you know on
31:07tour and stuff like that oh we'd be like hitting up all the cool vibey bars and um just like incognito
31:13just making so many fun memories with our band but um never go to the bathroom by yourself never sure
31:19the back even if not even need to pee i'm like i need to go but you always go together and you you get
31:24some tea when you go to the ladies bathroom long story short one of my girlfriends was talking about
31:30how um you know in college when she was like feeling down about herself or whatever she would
31:35just go you know out and then go hang out in the girls restroom because everyone's like you look so
31:40amazing like that guy doesn't deserve you like let me buy it you like it's just it is like a freaking
31:46hype squad in there um and i feel kind of bad exposing the secret of the ladies restroom at wars and
31:54and everything but um now the guys are like oh we now we know why y'all go together we know why it
32:00takes so long because y'all are that that's the party the bar is not the party it's it's the
32:06yeah oh yeah it's the girls laughing there's an old saturday night live skit that y'all may or may
32:13not have seen you're way too young to have seen this but it was about the ladies room
32:18and there's these two couples sitting down to dinner and the girls get up and they go into
32:25the bathroom and they've been in there for a really long time and then the guys finally are
32:30like what the heck is going on in there and then it cuts to the ladies room and there's just this
32:34massive party happening yeah and they're drinking cocktails and there's like a band playing and anyway
32:41accurate and and when we had we were like we have to do a music video for this song just to like try
32:48to bring it to life um as best as possible and oh my gosh it was so much fun it really it felt pretty
32:54authentic to like the the memories i gotta watch that skit now i know i know we should have watched
33:00that before your video and pulled more inspiration go look it up i'm telling you it's it's perfect for
33:05this so all right one more and we've got to talk for just a second about chasing babies and raising
33:10dreams um which is really just you know it's so much about um this stage of your life and it's
33:16what we've been talking about this whole conversation um what did that song mean to you oh man um well if
33:24it tells you anything we performed it live for the first time this last week and i cried and tease i think
33:30i can count on one hand how many times i've cried on stage and that's zero yeah so this is the song
33:35that finally made me cry on stage and i think just because i'll never forget when i had leighton
33:41it felt like my first dream like my first baby which is music and my first dream it wasn't getting
33:49priority anymore and i think that was like a really kind of hard mind twist for me because as much as i
33:54love my daughter and being a mom is like the best thing in the entire world and i've always wanted to
33:59be a mom it was still hard to not be able to give my full attention to music and i think there are so
34:05many people that that make there's so many things in this world that can make you feel less than when
34:10you're not able to give every aspect 100 but that's just not my reality at least i might no one no it's
34:16impossible exactly and so i think i felt really like insecure about the fact that i was having to
34:21like split myself between these two things and so when we wrote chasing babies raising drinks i was like
34:27this describes exactly how i've been feeling and haven't been able to put it into work yeah and
34:33it's like just this like the second verse it's tears rolling down back and out of the drive it
34:37never gets easier saying goodbye to sweet brown eyes make them all to say oh i like my eyeballs are
34:43already starting um but we wrote that song and like the day before i think we had like just came into
34:50town and i was backing away out of the driveway and i just remember seeing my husband and my son
34:55and being like i'm leaving one dream for oh my gosh oh my god oh no no no what's the moon doing
35:01is that what's happening um but i was leaving one dream for the other one and it was really really
35:08hard like that day i think i just cried and cried i'm sorry now um but i think there's just like this
35:17really um powerful like thing with that song where it's super vulnerable um and i just hope that like
35:25parents feel really seen and not even parents just people feel seen like yes we got too much
35:29month at the end of the money like everyone i feel like everyone deals are doing the best that they
35:34can yeah and everyone's working and everyone's got something that they're doing and at the same time
35:39trying to raise a family and wanting to be the best or shout yourself to raise that family is like
35:44it seems impossible yeah and so that's why we just take it yeah literally step yeah and i have like my
35:50i think all of us like have this inner voice um that maybe says something mean like my inner voice
35:56i had really had to work on her because damn she was a mean for a long time just beating myself up all
36:01the time but a lot a thing that i notice myself feeling a lot is like i just don't feel enough like
36:07i'm not working hard enough i'm not being a good enough mom i'm not a good enough wife just this
36:12like thing that i tell myself in that song really reminds me that like i am showing up 110 as much
36:19as i possibly can and i think my goal or my dream for chasing babies raising dreams is that people
36:26with kids or without just be able like oh they understand what it feels like to not feel enough
36:32and like just be reminded that we all feel that way but it's not true yeah um even though even say
36:38at home moms i mean that is the job in and of itself and you're supporting your partner as
36:42they're going out and chasing their dream and you're holding down the fort i mean it's just like
36:46i get chills literally to do i know i didn't think i was gonna cry it's a beautiful scene but it's very
36:52very hard dang it soon it's all your fault well it's a great song and and i love the way that y'all
36:58just kind of you know captured everything that you're going through and and everything that so many
37:03other people are going through as well yeah that's the goal like our dream was to like write music
37:08that people feel seen when they listen to it like you know what also music that we love but i think
37:16it's really special and it's it kind of aligns with the purpose we feel like god's put on our heart to
37:20like make music that feels like comfort um like i have go-to comfort records when i'm feeling anxious
37:27when i'm feeling sad when i'm feeling angry you know all these things and like we want to be that for
37:32not only our fans but just people that you know love music well i think you're you're definitely
37:38doing that um so congrats on everything um i want to ask y'all one more question um about um about the
37:48opry because um it's turning 100 this year um the grand old opry is turning 100 this year and i saw
37:56that y'all performed there earlier this spring and you've been on that stage on and off since you
38:03were 18 years old yes um so just you know tell me about the first time that you performed there and
38:12and what that meant to you i remember like it was yesterday september 23rd 2015
38:17now he was wearing a white dress and i was wearing a pink dress from charlotte roofs so yep our entire
38:22family was their brothers parents siblings everyone i don't remember the performance
38:27because i don't doubt i think we really i know we played girl in a country song and maybe after
38:32the storm blows i'm not sure but it was magical i sobbed like a baby coming off of that stage it was
38:38it was a we made it moment yeah um and i feel like you only get a couple of those in your career that
38:43are really like oh my gosh we've made it but i don't even know how many times we've played and we
38:49so you'll get nervous that would have loved to have been a part of the opry 100 special i know
38:53i know that would have been awesome but it looked great well y'all were really uh stepping out and
39:00calling out the the bro country you know i know and that song was never supposed to see the light of
39:06day yeah he just wrote it because we were just feeling sassy and crazy and we were like oh we're
39:11just two old gals no one's gonna listen to this like no one carefully have to say and turns out
39:16everyone was like oh actually they do yeah what they're saying is very accurate well i love seeing
39:22y'all back on that stage and and every time you get up there um so um it's been great talking to you
39:30maddie and tay thanks so much for being on biscuits and jam and congrats on the album and everything else
39:37thank you so much it's always a lovely conversation i know making us cry every second
