00:00There has been a writer who wished everything for what he believed in, that is Sibulapa,

00:05one of Thailand's most respected authors and thinkers.

00:08Also known as Gulab Sai Padid, born in 1905, he became a well-known writer,

00:13journalist, and political activist. His work spoke about love,

00:17freedom, and the struggles of ordinary people, always with a deep sense of justice.

00:22His most famous novel, Behind the Painting, tells the emotional story of forbidden love.

00:27It became a classic in Thai literature, and is still read and study today.

00:31But Sibulapa was more than just a storyteller,

00:34he used his writing to speak out against dictatorship and injustice.

00:39In the 1950s, he was jailed for his political wills.

00:43After his release, he went into exile in China, where he continued writing until his death in the 1970s.

00:49Today his legacy lives on through the Sibulapa Award,

00:53given to writers and artists who helped improve society.
