00:00Hello everyone, welcome to INS and congratulations for the 4th season of Criminal Justice that's about to come.
00:06My first question, Pankajji. Criminal Justice is a legacy title, like Mirza Puro Gaya, Kangsova Sipuro Gaya, Mahsanj and many other things.
00:15Every year, when you have a lot of work, you have a lot of work.
00:21What kind of work do you have to do? Because the audience has a lot of attention, it has a lot of pressure on the audience.
00:28What process is there?
00:31My mother and I have a similar link.
00:36There is no process. First we listen to the story, the story was good.
00:40Then we read the whole cast and we stay with the answer.
00:46And it comes to the basic understanding.
00:49There is no real character.
00:52I've never seen it before in the last season.
00:56That's it.
00:57The other signing amount in, character out.
01:01Okay.
01:03And Sabine, I've always loved your cinematic choices.
01:07I'm a big fan of ugly, sacred games.
01:09I think you were one of the first actors who got to step into the OTT medium with sacred games.
01:14With criminal justice, I would like to know, because the trailer left me asking for more about your character.
01:20There is a certain, it's shrouded in the mystery, the character.
01:23So I would want you, I would request you if you could walk us through the character on the periphery, what the character is about.
01:28I would also leave you here in this interview asking for more, my friend.
01:33Basically, I play the role of Anju Nagpal and caught right in the midst of a really big storm that has hit her, can say family.
01:48She's got an ex-husband and then, you know, the ex-husband has another, has a girlfriend and is having an affair.
01:55And then, you know, there's a triangle dynamic there.
01:57Somewhat right in the epicenter of, the emotional epicenter, I would say, of the show.
02:06And how she's got the grit and the gumption and the determination to protect her family, stand by and hence goes to Madhav Mishra.
02:16Okay.
02:17And here on is where I leave you asking for more.
02:22And Shweta, this is your second season working with him.
02:26Now, courtroom drama, it's more of a space where in the dynamics between the two characters depends on how argumentative they are.
02:34You know, you have to extract the best out of each other through the arguments.
02:38In such a scenario, when you have an actor like him, how does it open new doors for you?
02:43You take something when the camera starts rolling, you give something and you take back something after it ends rolling.
02:49So, in that sense, what was the learning curve for you like, if I may say so, or the experience for you like?
02:56Sure.
02:57Yeah, it's my second season on Criminal Justice with both Pankajji and Rohan sir.
03:03And, of course, I think the previous season I had some nervous excitement working with Pankajji and more so,
03:08because, you know, working with him, have admired his works, him as a person, lovely co-actor, you know, really eases you with his grace.
03:19But at the end of the day, it's not just another scene I had to really fight him as characters.
03:24But I think that's what happens as an actor, once you're on set and you're in your costume and, you know, you know your space.
03:31And then he's just Madhav Mishra and I'm playing Lekha Agasthi.
03:35And then the nervous excitement that Shweta is feeling does not interfere with my performance professionally at all.
03:42But a big, that happens because he also becomes Madhav Mishra.
03:49He does not remain Pankajji Tripathi at that moment.
03:51So, I think that happens because I get that from him and support from Rohan sir who gives that liberty to me as an actor, us as actors and team to, you know, that trust, that faith, that you're on board and, you know, this is your canvas and you can, you have the liberty to paint it.
04:09So, I think a mix of all of that has been a lovely experience and great learning also, you know, I would, to just know that, you know, that he could do that for a new actor, a new character that was being introduced last season.
04:29So, this season was, again, like, I was little more ease with it, but also I was portraying a character again which had never happened before.
04:37So, overall, it was wonderful fighting him in the court.
04:43And Rohan sir, when you have a supremely talented bunch of actors like them, does it make the job really easy or it keeps you on your toes?
04:52No, no, definitely easy. That's the, the fun because that is the raw material to make a good show.
04:59Usse aap upan nahi jaa sakte ho agar. And I think it's about just, and I think each season, the actors themselves also see themselves as a team.
05:12On screen, there might be a conflict or whatever, but it has never come in the way on set.
05:17So, I think that usse is definitely much easier to work when A, they are talented and B, they understand that we're all trying to collaborate and make something better than what we've started with.
05:30It's already good. Let's make it better. That's how I approach every scene. Usmein aur kya add kar sakte hain. Already, bunyaat bhoot mazboot hai.
05:39And usko abhi kitna hum log kaha tak le sakte hain. That's always been the approach. And scene by scene, ap leke jayenge, toh I think kahine kahine ap paunch jayenge.
05:49You know, the writers have done a good job, the producers have created this franchise, toh we are here to do our best on a day-to-day basis, make the scenes good, make the actors, unka impact hona chahiye.
06:04And it's all aspects, the actors, the other technicians, they all help in telling this story and it gets better every year because, you know, we're more comfortable.
06:14And at the same time, we don't take it for granted. We always are looking to push it and find new things.
06:21And as a maker, does it become very tempting to, you know, put those easter eggs, references from the past season so that, you know, the audience could relate to it in this season as well?
06:31I think definitely that, again, that is a writing thing, so we try to execute those things. I think it always helps.
06:39But a balance hai ki ap zyada apne references mein ghush jayenge toh woh bhi achhi baat nahi hai.
06:45But ek doh jagah peh sahhi tarikay seh woh, as you call them easter eggs kam, that's more satisfying hai.
06:52But I think even agar kisi ne pichle seasons bhi nahi dekh hai hai, they should still be able to enjoy this as a, you know, legal drama.
07:01Toh I think that is the most important thing ki, you should not get distracted by the easter eggs and all.
07:08That is a bonus.
07:10But there might be an audience that doesn't remember that or has not seen that.
07:14So it should not take away from their enjoyment of this season.
07:18And Pankat sir, with regards to the character of Madhav Mishra,
07:23jab aap iskirdar mein vaapas lot karate hain,
07:25aap ne kaha ki, puraane kuch eek episode dekh liye,
07:28us mind space mein jane ke liye.
07:29Jhaan tak, mujhe samaj me aata hai, muscle memory bhi ek actor ke liye baut useful tool hai,
07:35you know, kisi bhi character me step in karne ke liye.
07:37Toh us chiz ko, aur polish karne ke liye, usse aur fine tune karne ke liye,
07:41kya chiz hai hain ap apni taraf se incorporate karate hain,
07:44kisi bhi performance mein, not just Madhav Mishra.
