Trump Administration Halts Student Visa Applications

Amid conflicts with universities, the Trump administration has ordered a halt new foreign student visa applications.

00:06U.S. embassies and consulates have been told to take down new appointment slots for interviews

00:11with foreign students.

00:13Already scheduled interviews will still go ahead.

00:16The Trump administration says the move is to update guidance on vetting the social media

00:20of applicants.

00:22It comes amid a conflict with Harvard University over international students.

00:26Harvard students and professors have come out in support of foreign students.

00:32I would say that we, as international students in Harvard, in the U.S., we are not enemies

00:37of the U.S.

00:38We don't hate the U.S.

00:39If we are here, it's because we admire this country and we admire, actually, the academic

00:44and the liberty and the freedoms that this country has.

00:48When we go back home, most of us serve as ambassadors to this country in an informal way.

00:53We go back to strengthen American ties with our countries economically, diplomatically,

00:58politically, academically.

01:00And so we are not the enemy.

01:03The American Institute in Taiwan says it has not received instructions yet and will proceed

01:08with scheduled interviews as planned.
